greenstone I just wanted to put her in the dress for when the auntie/friend/cousin/granny that bought the dress visits. I agree with you, dressing up a tiny baby in anything other than a sleepsuits is not really my thing. Plus the dress always ends up around her armpits unless I constantly pull it down. And she's invariably sick in anything pretty or expensive!! But a cheap white Asda sleepsuit will somehow stay clean for a full 24 hours!!!

In the end I did what moggle suggested and went for the sleepsuit under the dress. Looked okay and kept the visitors happy!!

Roll on newborn size!!!

Terrible nights sleep here, I took DS up to bed at 9 o'clock after having a nice big feed (would expect him to sleep for around a 3, possibly 4 hour stretch at first, based on the last few nights), and he just wouldn't stay asleep any longer than 20 mins, ALL NIGHT! A lot of the time I'd lay him down and he'd be screaming again within 5 minutes :(

I've noticed he seems to get hiccups quite a lot though, and was wriggling around like he had a tummy ache all night. At one point I managed to get him to go to sleep sucking on my knuckle for a little while, as I didn't think he could possibly take in any more milk! After consulting Dr Google- Wink it sounds like it could be reflux - does anyone know if babies can get it this early on???

And just to make things even more interesting, DS1 woke up at 11.30, wondering why he was 'all wet.' Of course, he'd wet the bed!

ToniWol · 27/11/2014 08:48

We've had a bad night as well. Katie (full name Katherine Theresa, not sure if I've mentioned) decided to hardly sleep at all until about 5am so we're all shattered. She's using the breast as comfort an awful lot and I think she is getting a touch of reflux. She's currently reclined semi-upright against my chest in an attempt to solve the problem (Dr Google says upright for 30 minutes after each feed, but this is my compromise as she tends to nurse herself to sleep. Hopefully she'll stay asleep when I put her down and DH can look after whilst I grab some Zzzs.

Bellyrub1980 · 27/11/2014 09:36

Another baby here with tummy ache all night. I can't work out if it's wind or reflux or both.

My baby did manage to sleep for 2 4 hour stints but she was squirming in (what looked like) pain the whole time and was kind of 'whinging' and grunting really loudly. So although she slept, I didnt.

Annarose2014 · 27/11/2014 09:39

Yeah, we had a bad night as well. Am keeping it (barely) under control by letting him sleep on his side, & plentiful use of the dummy. Both definately help. Am using Infacol & trying to wind really well & we had some great burps/farts during the night.

But even then he was squirmining in his sleep a lot, which baffled me after getting all that wind out. So he got a lousy nights sleep. And when he wanted the boob he would SCREAM if he had a delay of even 5 seconds. We're all shattered, & poor DH had to go off to work like that.

Did my first "Bad Mother" act this morning. He was fussing like mad so I dipped the dummy in the milk of my Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. Blush It definately worked though!

Bellyrub1980 · 27/11/2014 09:42

annarose same here! My baby appeared to be ravenous for more milk even though she'd had a really good feed.

I seem to remember someone telling me that acid in the tummy can make you feel really hungry.

I'm certain she's over filling her tummy and then is uncomfortable because of that too.

Greenstone · 27/11/2014 09:58

Sounds like we're all in the same boat! Dd was awake lots last night but was calmer than the night before which was a scream fest. She did 2 hours in the sleepyhead, 2 hours asleep on my chest and then another few in bed beside me where she sleeps best.
I was very worried yesterday afternoon about the reflux issue and said it to dh. He reckons she will grow out of it when her digestive system matures a bit and when my milk supply settles down. I think he is probably right; dd1 was like this too but you forget the crapness of it with time!

Anyway, for those breastfeeding, fennel tea (as in drunk by the mother not the baby) can help a bit with wind issues. I drank a lot yesterday evening and am wondering if that's why the night was a bit calmer. Though I think it also.increases milk supply so that could be problematic!

On the plus side I have started to get tiny early smiles from dd which is so very lovely to see even at 3am.

ToniWol Katherine is a beautiful name Smile it was on our list.

Another one with no sleep here. She woke at 2.30, making feeding cues, but wouldn't actually feed. She kept falling asleep then waking up a few minutes later seeming hungry an repeat for a couple of hours when she had a small feed and slept for a hour or so. Both girls are randomly crying for no apparent reason this morning ( well DD1's reasons are things like her Lego creation fell apart, she can't find a specific crayon, I poured the milk when I should have known she wanted to, I haven't got the remote to put CBeebies on etc). I felt like joining them in crying. Even when DD2 is asleep she moans, groans and squirms loudly enough to keep us awake. This all sounds like a common feature of all our babies.

ladydolly · 27/11/2014 12:24

I'm going to buck the trend slightly here with a much better night, feed at 11, 1.30 and 6 so got about 5 hours. It's still taking ages to settle her after a feed though and so far only dp can do it, on me she just wants more food. This could be a problem when dp goes back to work...

Cutting out fruit seems to have helped and hopefully the thrush treatment will work soon.

I'm still quite tearful, I was sobbing earlier because time is passing too quick!! She's 6 days!!

moggle · 27/11/2014 12:37

We've been back to co sleeping the past two nights after DD screaming after 5 mins in her bednest even when put down seemingly completely zonked. She seems to love sleeping curled on her side tummy to tummy with me... Even when I put her on her back I wake to find her cuddled up again. We managed to feed lying down which is great as its meant even though I've not slept great, at least I've been lying down the whole night. Having said that, while tucked in next to me she's been going longer and longer without feeding after her 'last' feed at midnight or so. Im sure it'll all change again... I'd really like her to sleep in the bednest but one hurdle at a time!

I've just booked an appointment for a couple of weeks, to get imprints of DD's hands and feet done in mothercare... So PFB (especially the price) but we couldn't resist...

pinkgirlythoughts · 27/11/2014 13:17

Moggle, feeding lying down is the Best Thing Ever once you get the hang of it! It took me ages with DS1, but was so worth persevering with. I'm still practising it with DS2 at the minute :)

Been to the midwife this morning, and the little chunk has gone from 8lb 3oz at birth, to 9lb at 11 days old Shock. They weighed him twice as the second MW thought the first must have read the scales wrong!

Annarose2014 · 27/11/2014 13:55

I don't like feeding lying down - I get scared I'm going to fall asleep & squash him so am extra awake. Also he is so damn FUSSY at the moment that any position where he can't find the boob THIS VERY SECOND is very trying.

I'm so sick of waking up drenched in milk. Tesco breast pads are utter shite. I've run out of Always Ultra which worked great for absorbancy but they tended to roll up and stick on themselves. So you'd be there at 4.30am trying to flatten them out again with that charming rrrriiippppp noise so often heard in public loos.

According to the search function the best are Tommee Tippee, so am going to try to hunt some of those down today. I have a spare bottle of EBM so may brave a trip to the shops. I'm still too nervous to manage my boob in public. Especially when he's scrabbling at it like a starving ferret.

ToniWol · 27/11/2014 15:47

I have to admit that after my last post we all zonked out again until 11am Blush. Am now wondering if in trying to keep the house warm enough we've maybe been keeping it too warm. We're checking her temp occasionally and it's been flne, and given that she's been kicking blankets off it could be we've gone too far. So we've currently got the heating off (nursery thermometer currently reading 18) and will put it on very low before going to bed. Will give her chance to settle before putting her down and hopefully we'll have a better night.

Have also downloaded a nursing app. Was losing track of what she'd taken when so can now log it.

ladydolly · 27/11/2014 16:29

zonking out - bliss :)

dd fed almost non stop 12-4 this afternoon. I ended up getting the last of my expressed colustrum/milk and that seemed to finally fill her up.

Her preferred position to fall asleep is to be held up under her arms, quite a challenge when she's well over 10lbs!

Bellyrub1980 · 27/11/2014 17:02

After feeling pretty good hormonally/emotionally for a few days now, today (day 17) the stressy anxiousness has been back. Hate this feeling, it just seems to override everything else and I just can't see any joy in having a baby.

It was probably triggered off by leaving the house on my own with the baby today for a quick supermarket shop, I felt nervous the entire time. And anxiety not helped by DP having a coldsore at the moment. I get nervous every time he touches her which is shit.

moggle · 27/11/2014 19:18

If anyone was wanting to buy a fancy cot mattress or bedding from the little green sheep company, I just had an email with a 20% off code to be used tomorrow. No use to me as we bought everything we wanted from them before DD arrived ... Thatll serve me right for being organised!! The code is 20BLKFRI , don't think it is single use or anything. x

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 28/11/2014 00:33

Ds now a week old sleep remains minimal decided last night would persevere with crib n put down after every feed n was getting 20-45mins in between feeds. He actually fed all day yesterday as well and from 4-6pm n had to just stop him a boobs sore so crying cross baby so bathed him for 20mins distraction n Fed again.

DH let him sleep on him from 9-11pm so I got 2hrs sleep before starting the "night"

Took him to school today to collect ds1 as had said I would try bloody hell women you don't even know are all over you n baby n poor DH said Blimey I have been here every day for last week n barely anyone has spoken to me.

ToniWol · 28/11/2014 06:25

5 hours! We had a cluster feed last night from 10-12, and then she didn't rouse until around 5. Got a weigh-in today though so will see if she is gaining.

Annarose2014 · 28/11/2014 08:48

5 hours! Jealous!

Not too bad here. We slept from 11-2.30, then we woke again at 5.30. And now I'm creeping around him like he's a bomb about to go off, so I can finish my cuppa before he wakes.

More delighted for DH, who wore earplugs & so managed to sleep through. He needed that as he had an early start.

The Colic is still horrendous every evening. We had screaming from 6-10 last night. In the middle of it DH ran out to the local pharmacy where they gave him Dentinox to try instead of the Infacol. It definately brought up louder burps & seemed to ease things but too early to say.

moggle · 28/11/2014 09:40

I read that dentinox has the same active ingredient as infacol but without the artificial flavours etc. Good to know it works as well.

Can't believe it but DD fed from midnight to half past (after cluster feeding in the evening) and then slept until 7:45...! Only managed about 5 mins of that in her bed nest but cant really complain about that! I think she may have had a cheeky feed in between without me waking up but no way of knowing. Good job she was weighed yesterday and putting on weight well or I'd be worried about her going so long.
She didn't manage to sleep at all in her Moses basket yesterday either so I hope she isn't regressing to only wanting to sleep on us...

TwigletFiend · 28/11/2014 10:52

Better night here too! DD slept from 10-1:30ish, then woke for half hour feeds at 4:30 and 7:00 this morning. She slept all night in her Moses basket too which was fab. Infacol seems to be working a treat on her trapped wind so far too, though the taste makes her howl!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 28/11/2014 11:41

Anyone with a colicy baby try colief pricey but amazing stuff

Annarose2014 · 28/11/2014 12:26

The pharmacist said to come back to her for Colief if the Dentinox didn't work - she said its more of a faff for breastfed babies as you have to basically mix it with the milk.

So far the Dentinox seems to be bringing wind up within a few seconds, whereas the Infacol needed more winding. Also whilst he grimaces at the
Dentinox he doesn't roar like he does with the Infacol. Anything that doesn't make him cry at the moment is a winner!

ladydolly · 28/11/2014 14:52

Urgh, terrible night. Fed from 7.30 to midnight, then again 2.30 to 7.30 when I brought her into bed and fed laying down to get another 2hours sleep. We're in a terrible cycle, she feeds for ages, screams when we're done at which point dp has to settle her which can take ages too, if it doesnt work she'll want to feed again, if it does work she might go down for 3 hours, it might only be 20 mins. So worried about when dp goes back to work next week. Is yhe screaming because of the oral thrush? Should I be encouraging her to self settle? Can't imagine how...
