Morning all,

MB Thomas eats like a horse some days and others just picks same as Evie. I wouldn't worry it will all settle down I am sure
Ponto - Hope Alice is feeling better now.

Elf - there was a woman in front of me at Tesco's the other morning tasting the grapes, what got me was that it wasn't just tasting them to see what they were like as this was in the queue for the tills before she paid!

We were supposed to be going swimming today but both Thomas and I have woken up with sniffles so will have to leave it for now The weather has been lovely here all week (cold but blue skies, great for walking) so I haven't had much time to get on here but today it is very foggy, just glad we haven't had any snow!

Are any of us activly trying for another baby yet? I keep getting asked everywhere I go. We are still planning to start trying again at Christmas (mind you we initally said that for Christmas 06, soon changed our minds after Thomas was actually born!!)

Have a good weekend

Glad to hear that Johnny isn't the only waste disposal unit on the thread then! Trouble is, he doesn't really have days where he picks at food - it's relentless shovelling day in and day out!!

Hope your sniffles are better soon YF.

Hmm, not actively trying for another baby as in "oh must shag today DH" but have stopped taking the mini pill to "see what happens" Don't know if it is breastfeeding or minipill which is suppressing my AF so will find out soon enough (unless I am pg already!!

ELF1981 · 26/01/2007 19:44

YF - she wasn't tasting she was stealing!!

I'm not wanting to get pg yet. TBH mostly I couldn't afford the childcare for two. With studying for my AAT (which should be done in about 18 months if I pass all my exams on time and no resits) I want to wait until that is done.

I will be all oooooh when one of us is pg though!

joeysmum · 26/01/2007 21:34

Yokefleet - we're planning on starting trying again at Christmas too. We were originally going to try after our honeymoon next month, but with my shoulder still bad, my GP advised against it!!

Off to Poole for a few days tomorrow. Looking forward to strolling along the harbour front with Joey. Take care All, JM x

mawbroon · 29/01/2007 09:00

Enjoy your few days away joeyesmum.

Johnny has turned into a bookworm overnight. He has always liked playing with the books, but he's never taken much notice of what was actually on the page!! The shopping centre near us is doing a huge expansion (think of it as 18 months of free entertainment for a toddler!!) and after gawping for ages at the diggers and pile drivers and cement mixers and the like, Johnny got very excited when we got home and he saw his "Dig dig digger" book. It's like the penny has just dropped that these are real things on the pages!! He now points at the bookshelf in an excited frenzy and I am quite sure that he is saying "Dig dig digger". And here was me with all these plans not to surrender to the boy/girl stereotypes!!

ELF1981 · 29/01/2007 13:55

MB - Evelyn likes her cars, and will quite happily stare out the window and say "car" as they drive past! She also like her books, and the only really girly thing she likes is that she has a pushchair with a teddy in it, but she mostly likes to launch the teddy out the pram. Not sure what DH gets up to when I am not there!

Yokefleet · 31/01/2007 10:28

jm hope you have had a nice break
Do you all keep getting asked when you are going to try for number 2? I spoke to a friend of mine with a little one a little older then ours and she never gets asked
Well here I am feeling rather crap I had to go to the dreaded Drs again yesterday and was only kept waiting 35mins (I was amazed, had taken a book with me this time and got mum to look after Thomas!) Anyway on Monday morning I woke up with little chicken pox type spots/blisters on my hands, still there yesterday morning and very sore so went to Drs to be told that I have "Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease" (no Mad Cows jokes please have had them all night!! ) Never heard of it before, its a viral infection that should clear up on its own in a week, its unusual in adults normally in nursery aged kids. Having read up on it online I think that that is maybe what has been up with Thomas this last week, he hasn't had the spots but has been off his food etc so may have had the blisters in the mouth which we haven't seen, anyway we had been giving him Calpol for what we were putting down to teething but who knows?? Anyway I have typed this one fingered as my hands are soooo sore so I am sorry for any typo's!
Have a good day

ELF1981 · 31/01/2007 13:29

aw YF, hope you feel better soon.
A friend of mine, her little girl had hand foot and mouth (I remember it being in the news when they were talking about foot and mouth in cows and explaining how the human form was different!)
It is amazing what new exotic "illnesses" you hear about when pg / have children. It was only when pg that I heard of slapped cheek syndrome!

I also get asked a lot when I am having number 2, I think it is something I'll have to put up for a long time! I'm not planning until Evelyn is about 3-4, so I have a few years of question dodging coming up!

joeysmum · 31/01/2007 16:24

Poole was lovely, thanks. Just back to the same old hassles - think i'm going to have to go back to the drawing board re child care Just collected Joey today to be told that, once again, he hasn't had a nap so he's currently crashed out and won't be going to bed till late again tonight which disrupts his routine; and i've just gone to rinse his bottles only to find out that there was orange squash in it, which certainly wasn't supplied by me as there is a family history of problems from e-numbers etc in it which i had told the CM when we first started!!! I'm also baffled as to why there was squash in there, when i provide all necessary diet and fluid that should last him well over the 6 hours he is there!

joeysmum · 31/01/2007 16:25

oh, and i hope you feel better soon Yokefleet

mawbroon · 31/01/2007 20:02

YF - hope you feel better soon. I had never heard of hand/foot/mouth OR slapped cheek until I read about it on MN!

JM- that is really not good about your childminder. I would be especially annoyed about the juice thing. Is it definitely his bottle? Coulnd't get muddled with another mindee's bottle? I always make sure that my young mindee has his nap! One less to worry about for a couple of hours!(other than popping in to check on him of course) Is she out and about and doesn't accommodate the nap or does she say that he just doesn't sleep?

Johnny can pull himself up now and wobble on his out turned feet and he crawled all the way up our 20 stairs on the very first try

joeysmum · 31/01/2007 20:36

Mawbroon - She only has Joey to look after on Wednesdays, so it was definitely his bottle. I've checked, and she hasn't written anything about it in his communication book (i thought i'd see in case she/he'd accidentally spilt the contents i'd provided and just replaced it with squash, but there is nothing documented). Also, the issue with his nap is on-going - at home, he goes down for 1.5-2 hours after his lunch, but as i've mentioned before, he will only sleep in his pushchair during the day. Her son is currently in pre-school, and she has to go and pick him up at 1.30 which obviously scuppers Joeys usual nap time. However, on our initial meetings, this was all discussed, and we agreed that Joey would either have an hour before lunch, or an hour after she'd picked her son up. Sadly in practice, it doesn't appear to be working (i get "too busy playing!" in his communication book) and Joey ends up having no nap and so ends up literally crashed out in the car when i pick him up at 3.30. There's no way i can keep him awake, so i just put him down for an hour, but it naturally has a knock-on effect at bed time!

DH thinks we should cancel our contract with her, as we've also had other recent issues (her trying to get me to change my day, even though she knows why i have to do Wednesdays etc), but i'm not relishing the prospect of having to start again. And, biggest point, is despite everything, Joey adores her and seems to have a really good time when he's there, which was kind-of the whole point! Aaarrrggghhh!!!

(sorry for the long post - i daren't stick it in the CM board, as i know she's also registered to MN!) JM x

mawbroon · 31/01/2007 21:18

Hmm, I would be inclined to say that not following the parents wishes regarding the squash and routine is failing on the basics really and I would agree with you regarding finding another childminder. I have vacancies and am fab but I fear that I am too far away for a commute. seriously though, the nap thing is out of order, especially as you had discussed it and agreed on a plan. Does "too busy playing" really mean "oops I forgot"?
I'm quite sure he would enjoy himself just as much at another childminder's who doesn't give him squash and makes sure he naps!! Good luck whatever you decide.

joeysmum · 01/02/2007 13:16

Thanks for your support Mawbroon I was beginning to think i was expecting too much, but apparantly not. The trouble is, i'm no good at confrontation, so i'm not relishing having to talk to her about it either way! It doesn't help that she is a much older mum (mid forties), and i feel she can be quite condescending at times regarding my parenting, as i'm only in my mid twenties. Maybe the alarm bells should have started ringing when, on our first meeting, i said i wanted Joey to have a break from me so i could do the housework etc and she exclaimed "well how do you think i managed when X [her son]was little, especially as i was a single parent too!" (said whilst looking meaningfully at my DH!!)

joeysmum · 02/02/2007 21:31

Me again

Just to say, hope everyone has a lovely weekend. As for me, i'm taking my boys to Disneyland Paris for a few days (belated wedding present from MIL!). I can't wait to see Joey's little face with all the Disney characters about

JM x

mawbroon · 05/02/2007 08:49

Hope you had a lovely trip away Joeysmum.

Things here have progressed very quickly. Johnny can now pull himself up without even thinking about it and has taken a couple of tiny sideways cruising steps. And last weekend, he could do none of this!!

I was playing at a gig on Saturday night and finally went to bed at 2am. I just went to check on Johnny before going to bed and found him lying covered from head to toe in sick. I lifted him and got him all cleaned up and the wee lamb didn't even murmer despite being washed all over. Apart from possetting when he was tiny, this is the first time he has ever been sick so that's not bad going I suppose. He was ok the next day but mega clingy and wanting to bf all the time. But he seems fine now and now I have a dodgy tummy. Share and share alike...

ELF1981 · 05/02/2007 20:14

MB - gross isn't it finding them covered in sick in the middle of the night.
Did you do a double take and think you were dreaming - I know I did when I saw Evelyn the time she did it, not so much a problem for DH seeing as he put his hand in a puddle of it!

mawbroon · 06/02/2007 08:35

No, didn't think I was dreaming as I hadn't been asleep, but (gross alert) he had eaten sweet and sour and then blueberries for his tea and it was all pink and orange. In the half light of the bedroom I thought that it was maybe blood (I thought nose bleed or something) so I was actually quite relived to see it was "only" sick.
We have been doing baby signing again which had fallen by the wayside when I was minding. He has picked up a few signs, but everything at the moment seems to be a dog! When I put him down for his nap yesterday, he was signing "dog" and woofing for ages. It's very cute indeed.

Yokefleet · 06/02/2007 16:21

am back online as my hands, feet & tounge are getting better (thank god! it has been the longest week of my life and I am sure I have driven all my family mad with my wincing (sp??) in pain ) Thank you all for your well wishes
JM Hope you all have a lovely time away. Your child minder didn't sound very child friendly if you know what I mean. Have you been able to sort someone else out?
mb well done to Johnny for his cruising, he'll be running before you know it! Glad he is feeling better and hope you are soon too.
elf lol at dh hand in sick as dh did that when Thomas was ill before Christmas and complained of the smell for several days
Thomas is trying to jump at the moment and is causing us all great amusement whilst trying, my 3yo niece watches him and then says "No Thomas, you need to get both feet of the floor, like this"

I'M BACK! Three weeks yesterday and I'm feeling fine! Gall Bladder binned! In hospital 1 night was kicked out at 9am the folowing morning... Recovery was going splendidly until some nurse took it upon herself to remove my stitches early and re-opened the wound on my belly button All better now though apart from when DD kicks me in the stomach whilst changing her nappy ouch!

ELF1981: Had a look at your profile your 'tiny spud' is very cute! How much did she weigh when she was born?

All this food talk has made me hungry!

I'm confused over the jabs Lydia had her MMR at 13 months I think...they also gave her a pnumonia one too, but she hasn't been called for the Meningitis one that is being advertised on TV, confused, confused, confused!

Apart from that hope you are all well. Someone mentioned trying for another baby, I have been broody as hell ever since Lydia turned 1 and jealous of other people I know who are PG but I had HG with Lydia and am not sure if I want to go through it again.

ELF1981 · 07/02/2007 12:32

NN - Evelyn was 8lbs 13.5oz when born!

Glad you are feeling better - though the stitches doesn't sound nice!

Trying to avoid being daft but what is HG?

ELF1981 · 07/02/2007 12:32

YF glad you are better now

nannynickers · 07/02/2007 13:04

Oh I thought by what you said that she was a weeny baby! Good size that! One of my friends had a little boy yesterday 13 days late 9lb 1oz - just thought I'd share.

Not sily at all I don't think many people hear of HG unless they have it or know someone who had it??? Er HG..."Around 1% of pregnant women experience severe nausea and vomiting known as hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). The exact figure varies depending on the study you read but is quoted between 0.3% and 3%.

A woman with HG generally has no respite from severe nausea, vomits many times each day and finds that eating or drinking makes her feel worse, leading to weight loss rather than gain. If this continues without treatment, she becomes dehydrated and malnourished. Some women also suffer from ptyalism, which means that they cannot swallow their own saliva without vomiting."

Nice ay!

DD was 4lb 8oz full term!

mawbroon · 07/02/2007 16:52

Welcome back YF and NN. My sister in law had HG with both her pregnancies. Not nice at all I would reckon!

Not sure about the vaccinations NN. Here the babies get their booster for Hib/MenC around 1 year (this is a follow on from the vaccinations given at 2, 3 and 4 months approx) then the MMR and first pneumo around 14 months. I am not quite sure which meningitis one you are talking about.

Johnny did his first ever art this afternoon! I bought some chunky crayons and sat him at the table with a piece of paper and he did some wonderful light and shades with dramatic use of light and beautiful textures LOL . I even took a wee video clip of the occasion. You will all tell me that your wee ones have been drawing for months and I have been a neglectful mother for leaving it this long... He did really well and concentrated on it for about 20 mins until putting the crayons in and out of the tub and rolling them across the table became more interesting!

He is being really bothered with his teeth at the moment. He has numbers 13, 14, 15 and 16 all trying to come in at the same time. They are between his inscisors and molars, but I don't know if they are his canines or pre molars coming through. Time will tell. Just another four after these and then he's got them all!!

nannynickers · 07/02/2007 16:58

Lydia has been drawing for a while... but only on ME with random biro's that she has found around the house! Yesterday she snuck up behind me and drew on my love handle (only exposed because I was sitting on my feet tidying up her books!) the monkey! I'm sure the walls will be next - lock up your pentels!
