Well, I have some Freddos till DH gets them. Then they will ALL be gone.

BigPigLittlePig · 25/06/2014 08:04

Ha! Have funny mental image of MrFairy sat on his own nomming freddos Grin

After much shouting and noise (from F) she did eventually go back to sleep, so think we have had 6 hours. She is chatty as a chatty thing this morning!

PetiteRaleuse · 25/06/2014 08:34

Morning quiche. Sorry to hear about bad nights. My two were in a very bad mood this morning after a late night.

Erm, I have to buy a new bed for the spare room which is hopefully going to become DD1's room. Me and DH broke it last night Blush :o

It's cold here this morning. Which is good.

DD1 grabbed a sip of lemonade last year and vommed it back up. She is now terrified of fizzy drinks. They have juice on weekend mornings, very diluted squash and water the rest of the time. And milk of course.

We went to a 3rd birthday party in May and the dad said what do you all want to drink, water, juice, coke? And laughed. As did all the other parents except one who said oh yes, mine will have some coke. And was then very embarassed and was saying oh, just a little bit, to taste. It was a very judgey, awkward moment. Even the French judge people who give their toddlers coke. Other junk food is generally allowed but as with everything here, very much in moderation.

Pikz · 25/06/2014 08:47

Well done PR and mr PR!! VQ will be proud Grin

Brew Forbad nights

L gets v little treats. He thinks raisins and being given a whole mini apple are treats!

Been very stressful times here but we are coming out the otherside and I finally got positive opks so tww here we come!

YellowWellies · 25/06/2014 08:48

When I lived in South Africa coke was given as a first drink in a tommee tippy!

Pikz · 25/06/2014 08:51

YW that's soooo true my mil thinks L should like coke and juice and is shocked I won't give it to him!

Elizadoesdolittle · 25/06/2014 09:25

Nice one pr Grin

Hiya kyz I know what you mean about the house stuff. There is still so much to do here. I still have boxes that need unpacking 3 months down the line!

stunt I'm glad things went as well as they could. Safe travels home.

Wandathewindfairy · 25/06/2014 09:39

Your picture, bp is probably correct!

fruitpastilles · 25/06/2014 09:57

Qq, tinned mackerel in tomato sauce - are they ok to eat them? I've just had some and s went nuts for it she had a taste and really liked it, but I wasn't sure if they can have it or not because of the sauce and because it's tinned? Probably a stupid question but I have no idea.

misslaughalot · 25/06/2014 09:59

Fruit we've given O tinned sardines in olive oil. AFAIK the recommendation was as long as they weren't tinned in brine then it was ok.

fruitpastilles · 25/06/2014 10:03

Oh good, I might get some more for one of her lunches next week..... Bet she'll have gone off them by then ha

Wandathewindfairy · 25/06/2014 10:32

Yum.

PetiteRaleuse · 25/06/2014 10:37

Possibly a bit salty but as long as she drinks lots of water I wouldn't worry.

Passmethecrisps · 25/06/2014 12:58

P loves mackerel. For a long while it was the most reliable thing to give her. I just balance it by makin sure she has lots of water to hand and if she has that for a meal then I avoid anything else salty that day. Although nowadays I am much less conscious of it than I used to be.

Elizadoesdolittle · 25/06/2014 14:56

I've not tried E with mackerel but she loves fish and tinned mackerel in tomato sauce sounds like a nice easy lunch. Will add that to the shopping list.

YellowWellies · 25/06/2014 16:58

Mmmm will try that for J. His most reliable meals are Asda make your own vegetable pizza without cheese. A pasta dish I make with an oatly and garlic 'cream' sauce with chicken, mushrooms and green beans, beef stifado, DH's spag bol, roast duck or roast chicken, and boiled eggs. I can't wait til the day I can give him cheese on toast and a yogurt.

I was thinking on VQs comment about giving J crisps because his diet is so limited. I think I'm definitely guilty of that. My J gets more crisps, jelly and dull, safe, dairy free biscuits than I would have originally planned pre kids but he's so wee and so many basic kid foods are out I do give him more treats to stop him feeling left out. Like I pack jelly on the days nursery are having ice cream as a treat for example. But I appreciate chick's point, really packing those goodies is for me. He is only just starting to notice what he's missing out on. Maybe I pack them to stop me feeling he's missing out? Confused

PetiteRaleuse · 25/06/2014 17:02

I wouldn't overthink it too much. As long as he is getting a varied diet and not learning to be addicted to junk he'll be fine. A little of everything in moderation. Though obvs not dairy etc for J.

I've done mac 'n' cheese for tonight.

Wandathewindfairy · 25/06/2014 17:36

I think we are embarking on the great toddler food strike. Two nights on row spat out tea. So I have just got him down and that is that.

Sad

I hate this. But he will not win.

Wandathewindfairy · 25/06/2014 17:39

And DS 1 is left sitting at the table eating his tea like a swot!

PetiteRaleuse · 25/06/2014 17:45

Sorry, overthink is a dismissive term. I didn't mean it in a dismissive way.

wanda the French say you should eat like a king at breakfast, a prince at lunchtime and like a pauper at dinner. Apparently it is natural to eat less in the evening, but we Brits tend to eat most then. If he ate well earlier in the day I guess he's just not that hungry.

Wandathewindfairy · 25/06/2014 17:53

Yes I have heard that saying before. They do normally have their main meal at lunch time tbh, they were at Nanny's today and had rice apparently, but I am not sure what snacks they may have had. However, it is not unusual at this age for them to assert themselves in this way so I am expecting it.

I am not going to worry though, however hard it is not to. And I am not offering alternatives. He will have banana on toast or something for supper later as usual.

Elizadoesdolittle · 25/06/2014 18:57

yw I know exactly what you mean. E has much more "junk" food than DD1 ever had. I'm a bit of the mind set now that I don't care what she is eating (within reason) as long as she is eating. I'm pretty sure J has as much as a varied diet as possible taking into account his intolerances. I just remind myself that E on the whole does eat healthy meals so so be it if she has more crisps, ice cream etc than perhaps other children of this age have. It's not a staple of their diet and I am very much of the everything in moderation mind set. Please don't worry.

Wandathewindfairy · 25/06/2014 19:29

What could I use if I can not get Thai basil?

PetiteRaleuse · 25/06/2014 19:33

Didn't have a clue wanda but this blog post might help: kaprowleaf.com/blog/articles/424-can-qregularq-basil-be-used-in-thai-cooking
