What's the deal with threads being closed? Is there a post limit?

I am soooooo tired today. Archie has been really unsettled the last few nights from about 4am onwards. Sometimes he's hungry, sometimes he wants to play, sometimes he wants his dummy. The last two nights he's ended up in with us as it's easier to replug the dummy, pat etc.
YAWN.

Only off to Scotland so driving. Could possibly do that if we pass one, but I don't think we do Confused

This app is shit!

Would it be weird if I took a massive pan with a lid?

AMillionNameChangesLater · 22/05/2014 21:26

Nah, take the lidded pan.

Although we don't sterilise Henry's bottles anymore, we were told it doesn't really make a difference anymore

TarkaTheOtter · 22/05/2014 21:29

Lidded pan sounds like a good idea.

Spged · 22/05/2014 21:30

Haha was just about to suggest a lidded pan! Whereabouts in Scotland are you going?

FelixFelix · 22/05/2014 21:50

Pan it is!

Million my sister stopped sterilising after 4ish months with my nieces and they are both fine. How long are you meant to even sterilise for according to guidelines? I have no idea.

Spged we are going to Oban. My sister moved there last year and we have never been. I've never visited Scotland before and I can't wait. It looks beautiful from the pictures she's sent! DP is looking forward to a tour of the whisky distillery.

TobyLerone · 22/05/2014 21:54

I thought you were supposed to sterilise milk bottles/teats until 1. Nothing to do with the fact that they put all sorts in their mouths anyway, and everything to do with the bacteria in the milk being dangerous if not properly removed.

Can't remember where I got this info though!

AMillionNameChangesLater · 22/05/2014 22:33

I think it's supposed to be a year, but we stopped with ds1 after 3 months too.

As long as the bottles are properly cleaned and formula made up at the right temperature, I'm not worried

Spged · 22/05/2014 23:04

Wow Felix you must have a long journey ahead of you! Oban is a long way away from me and I'm in central Scotland already!! It's a pretty drive though. I've only ever been to Oban briefly on the way to Mull which is well worth a visit if you have time. Have a lovely trip!

Spged · 22/05/2014 23:10

Toby, that's what our HV told us. You don't have to sterilise bowls, cutlery etc post 6 months, but you should continue to sterilise milk bottles until 1 yr. One of my reasons for continuing to BF. I am so lazy!!

For those still BF, How long do you plan to continue for by the way?

Gettingthroughthis · 22/05/2014 23:20

felix can you just boil the bottles in a pan? That's what we did when we went to in laws. I heard the same about sterilising so I'm going to carry on as doesn't take long. I do them all once a day then make up all bottles for next 24 hours and keep in fridge

MadameBonfamille · 23/05/2014 03:09

I also thought it was due to bacteria in milk that you have to keep sterilising - although I also seem to remember thinking it was ok if you wash everything in a dishwasher as the temps are so high (not that that will help you felix)
I breastfed till dd1 was 1 last time, so I plan to do the same this time around. I mix fed from 7 months with bottles (formula) during the day as she was so easily distracted it became a nightmare. Bedtime & morning feeds were boob.

Angelesque · 23/05/2014 06:10

Felix ooh, enjoy Oban! I went there about ten years ago, stayed in the most stunning B&B with its own beach! There was an amazing fish restaurant on the seafront IIRC.

makeminea6x · 23/05/2014 06:25

So if its just about the formula is it the same rules for expressed breast milk? Ive never been sure.

Jealous of the holiday! We're going to see my lovely ILs aren't next month at the seaside and I can't wait. More pairs of hands to deal with DCs for one thing! I am going to go to town and have coffee by myself and read a book. Simple things!

TobyLerone · 23/05/2014 08:10

I plan on EBF until she's 1. I don't express because she refuses bottles, but if I did I'd sterilise them.

FelixFelix · 23/05/2014 08:32

Thanks everyone! We are in leeds and it's just over 6 hours not including stopping for breaks. I have packed the pan Grin My sister is the manager of a hotel right on the coast there so we have got a free weekend (so lucky!!) and a tour guide too haha. Have been told about the seafood place, will make sure I visit. So excited!!!!

AMillionNameChangesLater · 23/05/2014 10:37

My pil brought back both kids at 9.30, so much for a lie in! Apparently Henry wouldn't be put down, he was up three times in the night coughing (we did warn them). I'm so frustrated! Both kids have come back shattered. Henry was the great ubputdownable because he was tired and needed a nap. I have a really busy day planned out and about which can't be changed (viewing houses with a friend, her husband is away and she needs back up, lunch with another friend having a tough time, the week shopping (dh is working until Monday, we have no food in so it needs to be today really) and preparing my lesson for Sunday at church). I can change the lesson so I can do it when dh is back, but the rest are today.

Of the three times they've taken Henry overnight, they've brought him back twice. So no more nights away for Henry.

I really needed time away from them, like real time. I'm running on empty. I know it sounds ungrateful, but they asked to take the boys last night!

makeminea6x · 23/05/2014 12:02

Aaaaaaarrrggghhhh A will not nap for more than 5 minutes at a time today no matter what I do! I despair!

TobyLerone · 23/05/2014 12:06

Welcome to my world!

makeminea6x · 23/05/2014 12:17

Ah Toby it sucks doesn't it. I apparently don't spawn children who nap easily but DS has generally not been as bad as DD was as a baby.

BandontheFun · 23/05/2014 13:42

The breadtfeeding woman told me that you don't need to sterilise bottles for expressed milk only formula because of the bacteria that can grow in the formula.

Good luck with your pan and lid Felix, you can buy a one bottle sterliser. I have one for at my mums. Can use it in the microwave or just with the Milton tablets.

It is crazy the amount of stuff one tiny baby needs.

makeminea6x · 23/05/2014 14:01

I thought I'd heard that band . I always felt to nervous to actually do it though!
