I'm sat outside listening to bees swarming over the tree which is just blossoming this week. It's about 20 degrees and will be the same tomorrow but it will be cooler and greyer from Saturday onwards. The weather forecast this morning on French radio was very short: all of France will be sunny and mild. No exceptions. Was nice to hear but 20 is my limit. I like it just like this. It's perfect.

TheDetective · 13/03/2014 14:00

GT The 6 months fucking twatting sleep regression was the worst for us, closely followed by the 12 month combo of regression/dairy challenge.

I fucking hate them. Evil bastarding regression.

Sophia I am not a fan of shoes like that, but the bright colours are nice. I'm not sure. I tend to stick to ballet flats (but supportive ones), biker boots, and flip flops in the summer Grin. I think you have to go with whatever works with your style. They would look good with jeans. Not with dresses or leggings though.

YW That makes sense! Thank you for that! Yes, I guess he could get everything he wanted from a very early age, given he was moving by rolling across the room at 4.5 months!

I've been in bed this morning, as I start nights tonight, but DP said he has been doing lots of talk with him, and as a result O is now calling him diddy. I think I'm going to call DP P-diddy Grin from now on.

Pennie and PR I think I am worried because of DS1. His speech was not good. He was never referred for anything, despite my concerns, and despite his very unclear speech, and delay in talking. He was over 2 for his first non babbling word. He wasn't much of a babbler either. I feel like this was my fault, as I didn't know what I should be doing. I don't want to make the same mistake twice. Even at 12, I believe DS's speech isn't at the level of his peers. He gets things confused, his sounds don't always come out right, and his talking is a bit 'babyish' in how he says things.

So, dairy challenge. Today is the day. Dinner is roast root veg, with mash and roast chicken (for O anyway!). I am thinking of a smidge of butter in his mash. I'm flailing a bit with this, as I feel we fucked it up last time. He reacted about a week after dairy was introduced. There was no reaction before that point.

So every 3rd day we are going to give some dairy. I just don't know what to start with? Should I start with something that contains traces - I'm not sure we have anything in that does!

Help!

TheDetective · 13/03/2014 14:01

We are back to gray here PR! Although my weather app has a sun on it. It's lying.

PetiteRaleuse · 13/03/2014 14:17

Detective O is a different child though. Don't worry, you're not doing anything wrong.

I have just ranted on FB about this week's drama. Fecking nightmare. Good job it is sunny, if it wasn't I'd be rocking in a corner, wailing. As it is I'm just quietly angry but enjoying the sounds and smells of spring.

PetiteRaleuse · 13/03/2014 14:42

I had one of those moments today where you kind of realise that you're a mum. I don't know if any of you get that kind of thing? Where you're just getting on with things and it kind of hits you from nowhere?

Sometimes happens to me when I'm in the supermarket and buying stuff for the kids that I won't eat, like compotes for example.

Anyway, this morning's "mum" moment was coming back from nursery, hunting through the garage for empty shoe boxes and driving back to nursery with them as I saw a notice on the door saying that for a craft project the older children needed shoe boxes.

I kind of had a premonition of cake stands, and PTA meetings, and volunteering to accompany school trips and that kind of mumsy stuff. It was weird.

Det for dairy challenge start with trace dairy in something our dietician recommended a malted milk biscuit (half initially) and try the challenge once a week. Jonas can't handle me having dairy more than once a week so every three days might be a bit much. Butter is quite heavy in the proteins they react to hence starting with cooked dairy in something like bread or a biscuit. We seem to get a saturation point after a month or so of me having weekly dairy - his mucus cough returns and his nappies just become wet fetid splats rather than solid poos, then his eczema flares and finally his sleep goes to pot - it's like he can cope with so much then his system reacts.

Afternoon all,

I am addicted to pinning Blush I keep losing lots of time on there!

eliza i remember my brother being similar at about 3. I distinctly remember him saying to my mum one day when out shopping 'no mum never stripy tops you look so fat' and just waltzing off

pennie thanks perhaps I should try the same and give him a cup of milk at some point in the day or something. He has cheese/yoghurts also

sophia I agree with pr and think the pink/purple/blue ones are nicer :) I love shoes but live and die in a pair of dc trainers Blush I really need to grow up I think!

bless you evil hope you feel better soon!

gt you sound nackered, bless you, hope you get some sleep soon

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/03/2014 15:24

Thanks everyone. I have ordered the orange ones and will take advice and steer clear of the tan! Tbh I used to steer clear of those kind of shoes, but i thought they did look nice with crops and for spring/early autumn when sandals are too summery but boots are too wintery.

We have had no signal on our tv today (wrong kind of cloud) this isn't an issue really but now everyone is tired they need a flop and a chill. Had we not had signal I wouldn't have checked out Netflix kids and noticed toy story 3. They are both quiet!

So I have so e quiet time to mn create something wonderful for their tea!

PetiteRaleuse · 13/03/2014 16:07

Ooooh season two of House of Cards starts tonight. Yay.

And I just got another freelance project through. Shoes and pullovers this time.

applepieinthesky · 13/03/2014 16:30

det I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Don't be so hard on yourself. O has been too busy exploring to worry about words.

Sleep regression? C has never slept well and still doesn't. We were down to one wake up a night a few weeks ago then started teething again so back to multiple wake ups.

My parents had him last night and one night last week to give us a break but I'm still completely shattered. Don't think I can do it for much longer. Seriously considering quitting my job and being a SAHM - I'm not cut out for this working mum malarkey.

I've got to work out how much worse off we would be and if it's worth it.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/03/2014 16:34

Watch out for the moccasin trend sneaking up on you now sophia has bought some from the fashion Mecca that is middle of nowhere.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/03/2014 16:45

det honestly they are not to go with dresses! Grin no, that would premature 60s. You have not done anything wrong, all children develop at their own rate. I'm sure if school thought there was a particular prob with Ds1s speech they would have let you know. I know one of the DNs did, you couldn't understand him until the last year and he has just turned 6, the school picked up on it when he started in nursery and he had speech therapy in which he came on leaps and bounds and is brilliant now.

Pikz · 13/03/2014 17:40

Hahaha L has started calling DP Dave... Have nearly wet myself laughing

PetiteRaleuse · 13/03/2014 17:46

Would anyone be kind enough to link me to a booster seat you stick on dining chairs? Am fairly sure someone mentioned one that is v transportable ie fold up? I'm going to order one for my trip home.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/03/2014 17:47

Grin that is funny!

I just made the kids a fruity lamb thing from the ella's kitchen book. I have always done variations of fruity lamb things with cous cous and they all seem to love them. This one they really loved. I thought it tasted pretty good too. Luckily I did make a vat full and have portions for the freezer.

PurplePidjin · 13/03/2014 17:52

I have Wine

Today I'm thankful that the day is over

PetiteRaleuse · 13/03/2014 18:02

Thanks that's brilliant. I want a cheap one as it won't be used masses

Sophiathesnowfairy · 13/03/2014 18:22

PetiteRaleuse · 13/03/2014 18:28

MsJupiter · 13/03/2014 19:11

Hi all, we've had a bit of drama here as DH was in a car accident yesterday, he's ok but shaken up esp as he only passed his test 18 months ago. He is sure it wasn't his fault but the woman shouted at him that it was so looks like she won't be admitting liability. There is CCTV so hopefully that will help get it sorted. I am currently MN-ing from a very slow bus!

Not sure what we will have to do about car seat, he was starting from stationery but she was going at 30+mph. It was front driver side & car seat is rear passenger side. We sold loads of stuff on eBay to afford it so I am a bit Sad at the thought of having to replace it. I know the important thing is DH is ok though.

Det we did bread as initial dairy challenge and cooked things eg quiche (!) and cake. Did butter last.

We have no words here at 16m but I'm not worried. I think he is starting to try and say things (like "baby" this morning) so once he gets the hang of it he'll catch up. I love it when they play a joke on you. So funny to see that sense of humour developing.

Sophia I like the shoes - I also have a pair until they wear out. Same with bags.

PR I do know what you mean about those moments of realisation, it's the little things that catch you by surprise.

PurplePidjin · 13/03/2014 19:13

Car seat should be covered on insurance afaik? Worth a all to check

PurplePidjin · 13/03/2014 19:15

PS do I have the most MN baby? He said Teddy when I gave him a bomber yesterday HmmBear
