Oh cav!!!! Is she in her cot? Would you give in and bring her to bed?
L has been asleep since 7 with a few quick whinges and is now in her cot. Since I am alone, I've already decided she will come to bed with me at the next whinge so as I can rest a little. Hope your night improves!

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 06/03/2014 01:51

Cavort here as well! She's been sleeping from 10:30 and has woken up three times Sad

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 06/03/2014 01:52

I keep caving in though every time this happens. Rod for my own back!!

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 06/03/2014 02:19

Four times now Hmm

MotherOfCleo · 06/03/2014 07:35

Between 11 and 4 Harvey was up 5 times Sad I could have cried! He has now slept a bit better woke at 7.30. He has a nasty cough but that wasnt what kept waking him.

Do you know if we can still go to waterbabies if he has a cough and a bit of a snuffle?

Cavort · 06/03/2014 08:54

She woke for the 6th time shortly after I posted so I moved her into our bed. She still woke a few times but settled straight back off again, but then decided to get up at 5.40 and has only had a 45 minute nap since then, so in summary it was still an utterly shit night.

How did everyone else's night go? Better than mine I hope!

Cavort · 06/03/2014 08:55

Oh, and Mother our swimming class encourages you to still bring babies with a cold and they just modify the class for them and don't dunk them under.

HazleNutt · 06/03/2014 11:14

A more reasonable night here compared to yours. But I should stop jumping up every time there is a sound, he would at least in some cases fall asleep by himself. However, I'm worried about his milk intake so take the opportunity to feed him. Which of course means that he gets used to it and also, eats less during the day. Vicious circle.

Have any of your babies shown a preference to any formulas? I still have a glimmer of hope that I might find the magical one that he likes, but so far no luck. Too bad most of them don't seem to be doing trial packs, I don't want to buy a whole tin just to throw it away.

Hazle yes we switched some time ago to Aptamil because she didn't like cow and gate anymore.

BraveLilBear · 06/03/2014 12:25

We use Aptamil too - a hv told us (coincidentally) that it's the one that tastes most like bm.

In contrast to you guys, we had a pretty good night. Gave H some formula for his last feed - since starting at nursery we've given him one bottle a day (if not at nursery) to wind down my supply a bit before I'm back at work. I think this is working as I'm not getting engorged as much now (after 2 weeks).

Anyway. He drank about 120ml and was out for the count by 8. He woke at 12 but I cuddled him back to sleep and he next woke up at 4, when I fed him. Then slept til nearly 8!

Unheard of! I was practically doing cartwheels at 8 this morning even tho DP was grumbling that ut 'still wasn't good enough'!

Honestly, if he sleeps that much when I'm back at work, I really feel I could manage.

New dilemma is how the bloody hell am I going to get to work on time. It's just over 2 miles to the nursery (5 mins from office). That's a 35 minute walk (power walk, 45 if usual pace with pushchair). Or 2 buses can take as little as 25 minutes.

Problem is, there's no guarantee of getting on the bus. I can't fold this pushchair (travel system).

Am weighing up possibilities - carrier: guaranteed on bus but he's pretty heavy these days. Carrying nursery bag, handbag and change of clothes would be very difficult.

Buy cheap stroller: I hate that they face out (get choice with current travel system) and I always feel that babies look a bit neglected in them - ie cold, exposed, can't see mum for reassurance - and not very comfy for sleeping. But they do fold which should guarantee buses. As H can't walj though, would have to throw him at random stranger to get on and off. Bags a problem, tho wouldn't need change of clothes. Oh and apart from the really cheap ones, they're all minimum £ 100.

Walk everywhere: Takes longer, not good when utterly knackered. Rain = very unglam arrival at office.

DP has just suggested a taxi for the first week which I'd normally refuse on cost but tempted to go with that to buy some time.

What would you do Berries?

BraveLilBear · 06/03/2014 12:27

Ooh Hazle meant to say - can you get the small ready made bottles to try for taste? I think most brands do them and only 70p or so here.

BlearyeyedLol · 06/03/2014 12:42

Brave we were given a maclaren which faces front so L can't see me but she seems to love seeing what is going on and is much happier in that then in our old travel system. We used it to go on holidays as I thought we needed something foldable so if I was in your position I would go for that option. You can get excellent ones on eBay- good brand and not that much! I've also joined a local fb group in which people are always advertising stuff like this. It's called buy it sell it swap it. Maybe see if you find it? The other day someone was selling a silver cross push chair plus pram plus car seat for 150 quid.
Having said all that taxi for the first few days also sounds like a plan Grin

Alexandra6 · 06/03/2014 12:48

I would probably walk telling myself it will keep me in shape, and I'd use my coat or gilet with hoods on rainy days to preserve glam-ness!

Sounds like a fab night, can't believe your DP grumbled!

Cavort · 06/03/2014 12:50

We have tried every sodding brand of formula and she has refused all of them, BUT someone told me the other day that the ready made cartons taste different to powder and we have only tried her with the cartons so this gave me a small glimmer of hope and I am going to try again as soon as I can find someone who will donate me some powder to try her on.

Hazle because E is currently waking a million times per night I find I end up feeding her more (usually one or two nights feeds but sometimes three at the moment), so if I end up doing a third night feed it's generally quite late (it was 5.40 this morning) so I drop her morning BF and go straight for porridge at 8.30 so she is still having the same number of BF per 24 hour period.

That's a tough one Brave. Are the buses reliable? I am lazy would be tempted to go for the busses option and get a stroller.

HazleNutt · 06/03/2014 13:30

brave I would try to get a second hand stroller and take the bus. Walking is lovely but not when the weather is crap.

As for formula, that's exactly what I'm looking for, but haven't seen such trial bottles here.

janey1234 · 06/03/2014 13:40

Brave I think walking will be lovely in the summer, but crap in awful weather. Plus it's not just you who would have to endure it - your baby would too! So I think that a cheap second hand stroller would be a good option, then at least you have the choice of bus or walking?

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 14:54

Ladies can you help me out with some quantities. Assuming max a 1 night stay how many maternity pads/breast pads should be in my hospital bag?

Alexandra6 · 06/03/2014 15:00

I didn't even use my breast pads as my milk didn't come straight in to the point I needed pads. I packed and used a load of maternity pads though.

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 15:02

How many is loads? I'm clueless

Cavort · 06/03/2014 15:08

Merk I stayed in for 12 hours after birth and used about 5/6 maternity pads and hardly any breast pads as E didn't stop feeding for pretty much the whole 12 hours. Even if your baby doesn't feed as much I don't think you'll need many breast pads until your milk comes in on about day 3 and then you'll need loads! I've read forums where women say don't bother with expensive branded ones when supermarket own label are just as good and I found this to be true for maternity towels, but I personally found the cheap supermarket breast pads were crap in comparison to the Lansinoh ones.

Alexandra6 · 06/03/2014 16:09

Actually I packed about 20/25 but I was in for less than 24 hours so prob used around 8-10

Alexandra6 · 06/03/2014 16:17

Oh and we have an anniversary here - a year ago today I ovulated and lovely little S was made awww Grin I actually felt the ov pain during a mid morning meeting! Thank you clomid!

Swimming lesson cancelled due to poo in the pool - gutted!

MotherOfCleo · 06/03/2014 17:53

went swimming and all was fine. Grin

merk I was in for 4 days and didnt need breast pads, although maybe pack 5 or 6 just incase, I ended up giving mine to the girl in the bed next to me. I found the supermarket maternity pads really good, I probably used about 4 or 5 a day.

ZombiesAreClammyDodgers · 06/03/2014 20:56

Pack TONS of maternity pads. I found incontinence pads pretty good too used as maternity pads (Tena).
Breast pads, six tops should do it even if you're there for two days.

CatsCantFlyFast · 06/03/2014 22:13

10 pads in the bag and 20 in the car should cover it then??
