I ate too many Portuguese tarts that made with the Thermomix, now I feel sick.

I agree with Rubes, Beans might be worth checking out tongue tie.

Arti laughed out load at the spaghetti in the oven.

JamInMyWellies · 23/10/2013 17:23

Well that's cocking annoying I just wrote a post and it has disappeared.

JamInMyWellies · 23/10/2013 17:24

Hmm well it keeps saying it's sent but not appearing.

I really don't like this upgraded mn I have since doing the io7 thing.

Indith · 23/10/2013 17:26

Based on that description I'd suggest a quick tongue tie check too. You can't rely on your HV to do it, need to find someone in the know but gulping lots of air when feeding is indicitive of a tie. What does she sound like when feeding? What shape is your nipple afterwards?

JamInMyWellies · 23/10/2013 17:28

Am trying again.

Beans you free after half term for cake?

Arti that is very brave of you to do a museum in such little sleep.

DH and I are doing the annual eBay clear out. He has decided to sell his old camcorder. While checking out it all was working he found old film on it from when I was in labour with DS1. I font even remember him filming. His comment after watching was. You haven't really aged. Looking ok for an old bird. Shock Am taking it as a compliment Smile

JamInMyWellies · 23/10/2013 17:31

Yes beans find a bf councilor and get it checked. DS1 had TT and it wasn't found until 2wks later and shredded nipples. One snip and perfect feeding.

I am outside gymnastics for DS2 have already done golf for DS1 and I spent the afternoon at school doing baking with the reception class. Is it bedtime yet?

beans37 · 23/10/2013 18:45

hmmm. I hadn't thought of that! She's been feeding perfectly for 5 weeks and can stick her tongue out.Thought that would discount TT? but maybe not.

She's also totally exhausted and that's when it tends to happen too.

Jam, am all over cake after half term! what day best for you? Monday Tues or Thursday best for me xx

Indith · 23/10/2013 18:55

Exhaustion/frustration probably won't help! TT can be a fiddly thing to spot/diagnose. Sometimes they do still have good extension of the tongue but that doesn't mean they have all the movement necessary for good feeding such as lateral movement or if you think back to feeding before, you know the flutters you get from the tongue on the underside of your boob? That movement can be affected so you might be able to spot a difference there if she has TT. Feeding can appear to be going well, indeed it can be going very well even with a tie and difficulties crop up after a few weeks, or you only notice difficulties much later on for example when teething and you realise that actually you had been doing a bit of a modified latch with the TT but now you have teeth it doesn't work. Something best ruled out anyway!

beans37 · 23/10/2013 19:04

Indith, you are so helpful. Thank you. she does do that tongue fluttering thing and my nipple is quite flat when she's finished eating.

Thanks all for your comments. it is so useful and amazing having you all. not sure I'd cope without you xx

Mckayz · 23/10/2013 19:24

I wish HVs had TT training. DS1 has an awful one, he can't stick his tongue out properly. The dr says it shouldn't cause him any problems though.

The HV said it was fine as XMIL said she thought he had TT as XH did and XSIL.

Indith · 23/10/2013 19:33

Fluttering is good. How do you mean flat? Nipple should be the same shape it went in, a bit longer perhaps straight after the feed but the shape shouldn't change.

Kayz dd's is so obvious it is crazy. Ds1 has a slight one but his feeding was perfect. I've not had a proper look at ds2 for a while, too many teeth! He has a nice lip tie though and I reckon a posterior TT. His feeding has always been fine but needs frequent fine tuning otherwise I get sore. He can't turn his lips back right (though he improved after slicing his lip tie falling over one day!) His flutters are not the right sort basically Grin. In an untied tongue it undulates in nice little feathery waves, a ties tongue is sort of more.....clunky......I don't know how to describe it. You can feel the difference on boobs, or if the baby isn't your own you can feel the difference when giving them a finger to suck.

I have a TT so I guess my children were doomed.

There is only one clinic covering the whole of the North East, it is really stupid, people just quit feeding because they are in agony or having to top up their baby because they can't feed well enough before their referrals have the chance to go through.

JamInMyWellies · 23/10/2013 20:00

We had to pay to see someone privately for DS1s TT. As the paediatrician told us that Tower Hamlets didn't recognise TT as a problem!!

Beans let me check my busy schedule. Wink But I reckon any day.

Mckayz · 23/10/2013 20:43

Indith, ds1's is attached right at the front of his tongue. The dr said its a typical heart shaped TT. But as he can eat and talk properly they won't don't anything about it.

Rubena · 23/10/2013 20:46

I suggested TT to my HV at around 3-4 weeks after googling as I was having all those probs and she discounted TT and then actually signed us off!!!! I ended up at the local hospital not long after, waiting hours then a nurse felt sorry for us, and got a consultant pediatrician down who immediately said "yep tongue tied" (also she was furious at HV treatment) then took dd into the next room and snipped it - all while I had parents waiting who I'd just picked up from Heathrow off a flight from Aus! My HV was bloody useless. Not the only useless one I've had either.

Indith · 23/10/2013 21:00

TT can affect the palate and various other things but yeah, since he is older and it isn't affecting speech then they won't do anything. Doing it now would mean an op under general so not really worth it.

Dh's step sister's youngest had a TT that the paeds wouldn't snip at birth as it wasn' affecting feeding. He then later had to be put to sleep to have it done as a toddler as he wasn't babbling or talking.

this is pretty good. From a scientific point of view you have to take some of it with a pinch of salt as there is very little research to back up claims. HOWEVER, it is a matter that is being taken more seriously by dentists these days as it does affect palate, You do of course have to strike a balance between what is true and what is a bit of a rant about TT affecting everything in the world and it all being the fault of the NHS which is crap at everything all of the time.

Most of that link just describes dd, and to a lesser extent the boys, perfectly.

Rubena · 24/10/2013 09:10

Half a term almost complete. Go in early to view their work this afternoon, then hols. Quite pleased I managed to get him there on time every day!!

Arrtttiiieee · 24/10/2013 10:08

It does feel like a marker that they are no longer brand new doesn't it Rubes.

48 hours 'til DH disappears for the week. DD2 ill, DS waking for the day at a truly ungodly hour, I'm feeling run down... Not good. Am on hold to a sleep consultant.

ShadyLadyT · 24/10/2013 13:31

I will be back later (having to look after another child this arvo then collect another with DD1 later, so four in total!) So will respond on everything then but have we plumped for Mon or Tues for London meet up? Hons, are you still coming?

Vagolajahooli · 24/10/2013 17:31

Jam that is such a bizarre thing to say 'tower Hamlets don't recognise it as problem' she is a practitioner not reeling off diagnosis according to the local health trust. Bizzare. I wonder if anyone ever did a study on whether HV actually helped the average family what the outcome would be. They are helpful in referring on developmental issues but they seem to do more hassle than good.

With TT I heard somewhere that in the olden days the MWs used to run a sharp thumbnail under bubbies tongues when they were first born, when they were clearing out their noses etc. So there were a lot less feeding problems due to TT.

Sorry you're so tired Arti, I hope the sleep people help.

Vagolajahooli · 24/10/2013 17:33

Haha Lady, I generally have 2 to three extras here a couple of days a week after school. It is the best form of contraception. Reminds me I definitely don't want 4.

Rubena · 24/10/2013 17:41

Are you hiding one and you actually have 3 already Vag? Grin Hope the sleep lady helps Artiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Got lovely feedback from ds's teacher re his first half term. Pleased with him. He can stay Grin Only got about 2 mins to talk to his teacher though, since dd needed a poo (and makes it into a lengthy major experience, using ds's school toilet for the first time) and then this one annoying competitive mum monopolized teachers time (so annoying she constantly compares her son to ds and I've heard her doing the same with others) I wanted to punch her today.
Couple of wines at a neighbours tonight - something to do with a friend opening a shop (I clearly focused on the glass of wine on offer)

Does anyone else get bloating mid cycle? Get it constantly - then and monthly time..... v annoying.

sybilfaulty · 24/10/2013 18:40

Hello everyone

Sorry to have been away for so long. It's all a bit hectic here and I am just about keeping my head above water. Lady texted me about the meet up which sadly I can't do as we are busy both days. Would a Christmas drink be possible? Maybe if we book it now!

Arti, am planning an assault on curtain exchange on fri 15, all being well. Might you be free then? Would be lovely to see you and meet young A.

Love to all.

DeidreBarlow · 25/10/2013 12:54

Hello all,

Blimey I'll be glad of half term. Its a real struggle trying to get DS out of bed! He's exhausted poor mite. We're also looking forward to heading to Plymouth to see my big sis for a few days. I haven't seen her since Easter!!

Beans hows the feeding going? Did you get DD3 checked for TT?

Rubes, yes I get bloating about a week before my due date. Hate it! Had another swim today while the foot is holding me back. It was good.

OP posts:
beans37 · 25/10/2013 14:16

not sure how to go about it! I suspect she might just be a screamer. resists sleep at all costs. Unless on me. will put up with it for another couple of weeks, but don't think I can take it for much longer than that. then I'm going to take steps to remedy it!!

Honsandrevels · 25/10/2013 19:14

Just popping in to mark my place and see if we have any half term plans. We travel on Sunday and stay till Tues. Can do Monday but not Tuesday though unfortunately. Was that the better day for everyone? Monday sounds atrocious weather wise!
