Old thread here.

We seemed to be running out of space (again) so I made us a new thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SoYo · 27/08/2013 16:20

May I just say the words....weaning nappies! Urgh!

That is all.

StormyBrid · 27/08/2013 16:36

At least they don't come as a surprise any more, SoYo. The poos, I mean. Here they're solid enough to require a lot of grunting, which is a good clue the nappy's about to need changing. And no more horrible yellow slop escaping out the sides! Shame about the smell though...

We've had much more success with savoury mush than fruit. Chicken and squash puree is apparently awesome.

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 27/08/2013 16:59

We're yet to attempt savoury mush (DS is currently wolfing down a crumpet with banana smeared liberally on top) but I think we'll have to give it a go.

Worse I get the impression that they're of a more the merrier mindset. See you in Funchal next week?

I had to pull myself together earlier at the state of a weaning nappy. I wasn't even sure much was getting swallowed. I was wrong.

ecofreckle · 27/08/2013 21:37

plonky and soyo as we ingested two crusts and some pear today I have the fear about tomorrow?s nappies! (and ladies I took your advice and we?re off to GP tomorrow ? thank you)
worse you must have noticed, even in the garden of England, that the evenings and mornings are much much more autumnal now? The hot is on it?s way out! And Scotney yesterday was scorchio wasn?t it? I like to think that we noticed each other and exchanged the empathetic ?Mum smile? or you noticed my battered Phil and Teds and wrote me off as a slummy mummy
So, the mojo is still AWOL. I shall just get the main things off my chest and hope that tomorrow I will return reinvigorated or with more patience or something. Ok, my whiney list:

  • my period came yesterday. First post birth. Yuck. They normally come with an upset tummy too and this one is no exception. Added into the mix are heavy bleeding and period pain. Whaaa-whaaa-whaaa. Moan. I had forgotten the pleasures of this particular beast
  • 2 weeks ago our daughter fed every 3 hours during day and slept through night. For last 9 days she has fed not 5 times but 10 times and is awake every 1.5 to 2 hours all night (I realsie this is a daily reality for some of you)
  • The demands on the boobs are hardcore. I am worn out. I have mouth ulcers! I can't produce enough milk.
  • I have the niggle at the back of my head that eco-baby has something going on that?s not good what with these weird low temperature phases. But, joy of joys, I have the HV on Thursday so doubtless they will piss me right off reassure me.

OK. Moan over. The GBBO is going to make them all evaporate.
Not usually prone to wimpering and having a moan but 5 months seems to suck for us and it?s good to offload sometimes! Wishing you bun/fairycake/éclair/fondant fancy filled evenings Smile

somethingbeginningwith · 28/08/2013 08:50

eco hope all goes well at the GP and you get some answers. And make sure you buy yourself a big treat, post-birth periods are nasty!

vj you deserve an award, or at least a bottle of wine for putting up with your PILs! I have a terrible habit of not being able to bite my tongue so you must be a saint to keep calm around them.
Wow christi mini farmer sounds like a dream, so glad you're all having a great time together. Enjoy Scotland Smile

And yep, we have 6 teeth now! I'm not breastfeeding worse haven't since the very early days and I'm so glad of it now Wink

I've not been able to have my post-Edinburgh comedown as we're still getting reviews (4 out of 5 stars, thank you very much Wink unbelievably proud) and we're moving house on Friday so it's all go!

Enjoy your hols plonl I'm sure you'll all have a brilliant time. Make sure you cover yourself in suncream Wink

worsestershiresauce · 28/08/2013 10:51

It's mid morning and I'm wiped out! Respect to everyone with night waking babies, one bad night and I'm toast. The worselet was cold again, which is what happens when you kick your blankets off every 2 minutes. I need a sleeping bag don't I?!

Hope you get some answers at the GP today Eco, or at the very least a referral.

I was back at mine yesterday - that bl**dy infection is back. I could cry. 3 double doses of antibiotics, and a d&c and still no joy. I'm actually quite worried now. Ah well, looking on the bright side the man is being extra nice to me cos I is sick Grin.

Something 4 out of 5 stars.... you ROCK!!!!!! The house move must feel so very insignificant in comparison, but good luck with it anyway.

Plonky so if I just pitched up like, they'd be thrilled packs passport Grin. My parents are handily located overseas too so perhaps we could do a swap some time to vary our holiday locations.

I am also awaiting a weaning nappy. The excitement in my life knows no bounds. I wish she'd hurry up with it actually as her preferred time is in the middle of my lunch. Before lunch would be so much better Hmm

Plonkysaurus · 28/08/2013 14:31

Something please tell me your play will be on at the theatre in derby, I want to see it! Good luck with the move, I'm sure it'll go without a hitch. And you'll get that awesome 'all your ducks in a row' feeling when you're finally in and unpacked. I'm sad though, I loooove unpacking in a new place.

Eco hope all goes well at the drs, hope they actually listen to you and seriously investigate all avenues. On a lighter note, GBBO was bloody good last night no? That peacock! Marvellous! You'll be needing chocolate and a footrub for that period.

Worse I hope they've given you the big antiBs this time. Yes, you come to Madeira and ill pop off to somewhere calm and serene where I can drink mojitos and Chardonnay (not in the same glass, obvs) then ill return home well rested while you'll have had a very lovely time with my slightly manic pils. Lovely people, but calm and serene is not their thing.

DS is asleep after screaming his way around town so I'm off to pack a bit. Remember the days of just flinging stuff into a suitcase the night before flying? Now we have lists! And I can't just say 'oh if we forget something well buy it out there' because there is only one Clumpy Puppy, and just one Monkey, and a solitary blanket to save our sanity on this flight.

SoYo · 28/08/2013 15:27

Plonky, have an amazing time! I'm well jel!

Eco, I hope the Dr is useful and reassuring.

Wors, that's crappy. Did they get results of swabs or tha sample of placenta back as that might give them a clue as to the best abx. Would you be able to see the same gynaecologist again? Don't let the GP just keep giving you the same abx, if they're stumped they should ring the local microbiologist for advice on where to go next.

I've just dropped the PuppyMonster of at the groomer, they scalped her last time as she was all tangled and I had to drag her in this time. I seem to spend my whole life feeling guilty at the moment!

christilass · 28/08/2013 16:23

Ecofreckle ...

i sympathize with you on your period arriving ... mini farmer was 14 weeks old when my period made a Spectacular comeback ...

hell i thought i was bleeding to death it was like a blood bath massacre it lasted 6 longggg days....... id never experienced anything like it oh and the pain Arghhhhh

mini farmer is in pram sitting at field gate snoring his head off , while i have a bite to eat yummy !

christilass · 28/08/2013 16:28

Prince william was at his and our local agricutural show a few weeks back ..... he was saying how exhausted him and kate were with the new wee baby .... jeez and that was with kates mum staying with them , wonder how they are managing now she's back at her home .

ecofreckle · 28/08/2013 17:13

plonky packing with babies eh? Takes all day doesn?t it? And then you still forget something fundamental. I have a standard list now. Problem is Eco-Baby doesn?t stay standard for too long. ?Mousey is so 4 months old Mummy; it?s all about Owly now. Derrr?. ?But I bought 3 Mousies Eco-Baby?. ?Sucker!?. Have a fabulous time! Sue you will now worse and worselet are joining you too. It?ll be a right old baby knees up! Wink GBBO wise I fell asleep pre-peacock. Sounds amazing! I will get to see that tonight. Paul Hollywood is a bit creepy though isn?t he? I cannot think of him in silver fox terms. Just no.
something Christilass do subsequent periods get better? Less heavy and less painful in your own experiences?

something how far are you moving and is it a different type of house that suits your new family a bit better? Was thinking in car earlier that this group is full of interesting people and I?m so so pleased you got such excellent reviews. Life?s all go for you right now eh?

Ah worse that sucks. Soyo has wise words on the matter. Something evidently needs a swift and hardcore kick up the bum (the bugs I mean but that could also be applied to your doc). Think how amazing motherhood will feel when you finally feel better.

soyo what?s the doggy do like? Looking good this time? I?m sure she/he will be thanking you for the shearing if the weather with you is anything like it is in Norfolk.
How's everyone else doing? stormy, eig, any, KKF?
So, we went to docs. Same GP that saw me back in the day with my terribly painful right nipple and didn?t even ask to take a look at it. I knew it wouldn?t be a successful trip when I saw it was him! He said that the thermometers we use (the ones hospitals use) are inaccurate at low temperatures and that it?s hard to get them in babies ears. Sounds like ripe old fobbing off to me. However, eco-baby does seem well despite the incessant feeding and misplacement of any sleeping skills whatsoever. Doc booked us an appointment for 10 days time so I shall battle on and see whether my boobs fall off before then.

KFFOREVER · 28/08/2013 18:55

eco im currently hiding in the bathroom from a sleep fighting babu and a dh who is hungry had a rubbish day at work. I just needed alone time.

Get well soon with your periods. They come back with a vengence and the pains felt like contractions. For me it didnt get better which is why i have the coil.

something congrats on your show and the housemove.

Those of you who are going on holiday or move house with a baby you are heroes. I cant even go to the local shop without getting getting into tizzle and forgetting something. Mind you we just started up a new business. Yes crazy i know especially with no income from me and using up our savings.

worse sorry to hear your feeling unwell again. Hope they get to the bottom of it soon.

As for other news from us we had waking every hour from 11:30pm last night. Not sure what was wrong. I though he was hungry but he only had 2ozs of milk on 2 occassions rather than the 6ozs. So it must be teething.

christilass · 28/08/2013 19:06

Ecofreckle...... I'm glad to say yes 2nd period was more normal and 3rd completely normal Phewww !!!
Now we are hoping we don't have many more as wanting another mini farmer or farmeress.

worsestershiresauce · 28/08/2013 20:05

Thanks SoYo that's useful - I'm seeing the consultant tomorrow so will make a note of what you said.

I'll have to just wave to everyone for now.... it's that manic evening time.

SoYo · 28/08/2013 20:12

I'm so impressed at everyone doing all these big things in life.....I can just about make it out for a coffee with everyone washed and dressed and I still usually have half a boob out without noticing

Christi another already! You're so brave, you really must be loving it. I think you're probably really having as hard a time as me but just made of much stronger stuff!!!

I am very chuffed with myself tonight as I just made a mega tasty tea, I'm sure I'll be less smug after the bedtime battle.

Wors, good luck tomorrow!

somethingbeginningwith · 28/08/2013 20:15

plonk I'm afraid not, it's all done and dusted now Sad it has been on at Derby twice before, I don't think they'd let me put it on again. Although, I do have a dvd of it so don't worry, I'll bore you with that if you like! Wink

eco we're buying our first and it's a gorgeous 4 bed with a huge garden in Nottingham, so only about 20 mins from where we live now but closer to family, which is obviously a huge benefit. As far as the periods go, mine are still painful but I'm blaming the coil for that (I have the copper one and apparently they're not much fun for the first 6 months after). I only have one day of pain, but it's pure agony. Other than that, they're just like they were before.

worse did the weaning nappy make its appearance? Hope it wasn't too frightful!

Thanks to all for the congrats on my show. One step closer to the dream of writing. While I was in Edinburgh, I went to the cafe where JK started writing Harry Potter so I tried to snatch some of her skills Wink

DS has got an ear infection! He's not suffering at all but fluorescent goo is not a nice thing to have to wipe out of an ear! Got some drops to pick up tomorrow so hopefully it'll go soon! Right, time to crack open the wine. It is Winesday after all!

christilass · 28/08/2013 20:39

Soyo .... we are having a wonderful time , i think we hve jus been very lucky that mini.farmer is a good wee boy .....

Anypants · 28/08/2013 21:42

eco - since you asked....

We're still in Wonder Week territory here - no naps at all today so DD kept falling asleep on the boob. She is still thankfully sleeping ok at night though. Lots of crying when tired but seems to have temporary amnesia about nodding off, except at bedtime. Hmmmmm.

We had a little boat trip on Sunday and spent our first night away from home. DD was fine in a travel cot but I barely slept as I was wedged into a tiny bunk which wasn't wide enough for me and DH. Told you the boat was not 'all that'. DD loved it though and has a very cute little lifejacket!

As i'm still BFing, I am yet to get the return of the painters - can't wait though. Sounds fun.

christi Shock to the next baby so soon. We have time twins and I would not be heading to duffington again for quite some time. If at all Hmm

WingDefence · 28/08/2013 22:16

eco, GP sounds rubbish. Change the next appt for another GP?

I've not had the joy of that first post-birth period. Joy! I think it can happen soon after having a coil fitted and that was a week ago tomorrow, so I'll see...

Not a great night last night with dd after me stupidly thinking she was back onto sleeping through the night. Pesky minx. It did strike me at daft o'clock that perhaps we weren't putting enough in her bottle as she's only been having the same 5oz in the little bottle since we got her onto one a day. I checked the formula box tonight and she should be on 7oz Shock so I put 6oz in the little bottle (completely fills it) as I didn't have a bigger one at out the packet(!) and from tomorrow she'll have 7oz in the evenings. Silly, silly me. Hope that helps...

Sorry if this is asking an old question, but those of you who are weaning, how many weeks were your DCs when you started with those first tastes and do you think they are reducing their milk now, x weeks later, ie are starting to actually have meals? I just really cannot remember a thing from when I weaned DS 4 years ago Confused

something I missed that you were at Edinburgh. Congrats :)

SoYo · 28/08/2013 22:46

Something I'm from Nottingham! I wonder if you're moving near my old bit of it?

Christi, in all honesty madam is now wonderful during the day, she's bloody hard work, needs constant attention and entertaining, still doesn't nap in the house but is this gorgeous, giggly, interesting and interested lively little bundle......if only she slept at night!!!

Wing, mini-Yo is 26 weeks now, had her first tastes at about 24 weeks, is now having 1-2 lots of food a day but I wouldn't say it's proper meals yet, sometimes purée, sometimes just a bit of what I'm having. She is going a bit longer between feeds when there's a meal involved but I don't think there's a significant difference yet. I am taking it all fairly slowly though!

2 wakes ups already, it's going to be a long one! Luckily I've just got a new book!!

StormyBrid · 29/08/2013 08:20

Wing, we have food once or twice a day, of the mush variety. Also she often gets a tiny nibble of whatever we're having for tea. First taste of sausages last night! Still no teeth and not great at chewing, and if she feeds herself she mostly ends up chewing her thumb, so I break up little pieces with my fingers. It's kind of like feeding a baby bird. Anyway, no noticeable effect on milk intake yet. We're careful to space out food and milk though, as she's having between 26 and 29 flozzes most days - not enough for me to be happy about it reducing.

We're also usually down to one night feed, which is marvellous, except I still wake up for a wee every night then can't sleep again!

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 29/08/2013 08:27

SoYo I'm also from Nottingham! I'm from the arse end of nowhere bit in the north of the county.

Wing DS had his first tastes around 20 weeks, he's 24 weeks now and were doing a mixture of blw and purées. We've dropped from five 8floz bottles to 4 and he's happy with that. Ideally he has bottles at 7,11,3 and 6.30, which gives ample opportunity for three nibbles a day. Yesterday he had a piece of ham hanging out his mouth and a finger of crumpet in each hand. Tried to eat all three at once. Clearly takes after me.

We had a crap night thanks to those sodding teeth, and we've got to get up at the crack of dawn to get to the airport. I have so much to do today I think I'll just procrastinate on MN I don't know where to start.

WingDefence · 29/08/2013 08:41

Have a fab holiday plonky and don't other to store up those mad/annoying PIL stories for AIBU when you get back!

Thanks for sharing your weaning stories so far. Seems like a fair mixture of purées plus BLW which I think is a good idea. This is one of the big downsides of bfing - not having a clue how much DD is drinking but on average she has 5-6 mins both sides in one feed, approx every 3 hours. Once she's on solids I'll be putting her onto formula... honest DH I will

vjhist85 · 29/08/2013 10:09

Wing- dd is 24 weeks. Honestly can't remember when she had her first tastes- just bunged her a but of something off my plate, probably at about 20 weeks? But only recently had actual mealtimes. Tea is set in stone at 5pm and has been for a couple of weeks. Just started doing breakfast (about an hour after first bottle). No lunch yet. We are mainly blw, although she doesn't exactly have the same as us, I usually do different stuff for her, especially at tea time. Dh's cousins (6 dc between them) said blw is fab BUT you want them to accept a spoon from you as well. We now tend to put bits in front of her, then offer the odd spoonful of purée as well. As an example, last night she had some strips of left over roast chicken, some bits of curly kale, and some breadsticks. I also had some veg purée, some of which she had from a spoon, some of it with chicken/breadstick dipped in!
