cheese Faithlet had this - conjunctivitis. It started in one corner and overnight her eye was stuck together! A paeds nurse said it doesn't usually need drops, just use cooled, boiled water with the cotton wool. It should clear up quite quickly. Am I right in thinking you're BF? My MW suggested for the last wipe, put a few drops of breast milk on cotton wool. Faithlet's cleared up within 2 days.

Trishstar · 19/05/2013 14:47

That's good to know faith xx thought they'd give drops! I had it lots as a baby/toddler and had drops

HadALittleFaithBaby · 19/05/2013 14:52

They can give drops but most cases don't need them....actually despite what I was told This NHS page says differently! If its no better tomorrow cheese I'd ring your GP.

itsaruddygame · 19/05/2013 15:02

Cheese our practice nurse advised breast milk for DS's gammy eye and it cleared it up very quickly.

Trish - agree with all the useful but also love my nappy bin and sling off the useless list!

We r having a bit of a rubbish time - H got a terrible temperature and we have been in hospital since yesterday. Temp is down and they think he has caught a tummy bug from me but it is horrid seeing the poor little mite look poorly. He is feeding still but not as much as normal and I am struggling to pump much. Feeling envious of those if you that get lots off!

He has horrible poos that are huge and smelly and I am
really hoping he is on the mend soon before he starts dropping too much weight as he is only little! Am hoping my supply doesn't get buggered up too as he likes his booby milk and I don't want him to have to work to hard to get it! Anyone experienced similar?

photochick · 19/05/2013 15:15

kitten I know exactly how you feel. We have just had the same conversation. I'm going to try and see someone tomorrow to help with the breast feeding.

Thanks to everyone for their support. I ended up at a&e last night seeing an out of hours doctor because I felt so awful. Not much help but it was good to talk to someone. DH formula fed last night so I could sleep and he is taking the morning of tomorrow to try and see what extra help I can get. Feeling pretty crappy right now. On a positive note DD is beautiful and seems quite happy, it's me that needs sorting out!

Trishstar · 19/05/2013 15:32

Ruddy and photo xx hope things improve for you and your babies xxx

I'd say my nappy bin is one of the most useful things !!!

LikeCandy · 19/05/2013 15:45

bird I walked around the supermarket with a milky t shirt - I must have missed a leak a short while before, because it had slightly dried - so it wasn't just dark stains, I had white 'tide marks' on my brown top. I was with DH who had noticed but didn't tell me so I didn't feel self conscious!
Also, for ease of feeding I also mostly wear vest/too combo with a cardi, I've walked around with top still tucked up - flashing my vest/bra!

LikeCandy · 19/05/2013 15:48

trish I think the babybjorn bouncy chair has been one of the most useful things, being able to pop her in it has meant I can shower!

Trishstar · 19/05/2013 15:57

That's what I do for shower time too candy! Xx

AmberLav · 19/05/2013 16:03

Cheese it sounds like a blocked tear duct - google it, its common in bewbirnd, and probably not serious...

ElliesWellies · 19/05/2013 18:10

birdbrain Have had the milk leak problem too. I now try to wear tips that don't show it, e.g. Lacy ones, knitted, etc.

Those of you with variations in nappy content - my own opinion is that if your baby seems otherwise well then don't worry. My own experience is that it can vary a lot without there being a problem.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 19/05/2013 18:57

I only seem to leak at night, changing pyjama top almost every night!

photo I'm sorry it got so tough for you but it sounds like you're doing better today....I hope you get more sleep and feel better.

We're the same with the bouncy chair - essential for shower time! My sister has just lent us a baby gym too which she seems to like being under. Living room is being taken over though...

BonaDea · 19/05/2013 20:04

I have a separate bath and shower so I pop ds into the (empty!!) bath on a spare changing mat with a toy dangling from the tap. He's happy as larry and I get to have my shower. Often use bouncy chair in the kitchen!

Trishstar · 19/05/2013 20:45

Just bought the last Ewan from kiddicare!!

CheeseAndMushroomToastie · 19/05/2013 23:48

Thanks for the gunky eye advice.... I thought breast milk was something to use, but wasn't sure so don't mention it. Anyway I squirted some in his eye placed a few drops on his eye and have been wiping the hunk away too and it seems to be better but will see how it is tomorrow.

As an aside, my hospital photos of when he was born are horrendous as my eye was so manky sore and red from the conjunctivitis that I was trying to hide it, not easy I can tell you. Grin

Hope all are well. Even though this is ds2, I am finding it very difficult not to buy anything, especially after reading about your purchases on here..... must not spend, must not spend etc

Trishstar · 20/05/2013 00:44

Cheese this is my first and I'm spending loads!

Sunday I ordered

Ewan the sheep and a gro bag and nappy wraps (to see if we can contain the poosplosions!), plus just recently purchased the tommee tippee perfect prep and more baby gros and vests to see us thru til he's in his 0-3 stuff!

BonaDea · 20/05/2013 01:41

Trish - me to.

I have never on my life hidden shopping for myself from DH when I have splurged on myself. I have my own money and spend it as I please.

Until now. Just keep buying stuff, especially clothes! DH wouldn't mind as such but would definitely think I was daft. Together with all the stuff we got as gifts I'm not sure he'll actually get to wear it all!! Confused

EssexWelsh · 20/05/2013 04:42

Do you also ding you're becoming secret night time Internet shoppers?! What with all these feeds and nothing better to do-why not shop? ??

Kittenmummy · 20/05/2013 06:31

Hi all. Thank you to everyone who has given very helpful advice -sorry not name checking got irritable dd in one hand and can't remember who said what! Will take on board suggestions, dd is 4wks old so wasn't expecting latch issues now. Maybe will go to breastfeeding cafe today if I manage to get a bit of sleep. Last night was really tough.

I'm glad to hear all of you are going nuts with the shopping. The weeks before dd was born I was getting a parcel almost every day. After all what else was I meant to do to fill up my time? There were SO many hours in the day...incidentally I have the angel care nappy bin which is very useful. I think it's a bit bigger than tt so I don't hav to empty it so much but cassettes are slightly more expensive

HadALittleFaithBaby · 20/05/2013 06:46

I've been pretty restrained with shopping. Only major purchase has been the electric breast pump and I spent £15 on the sling (worth every penny). I won't buy clothes - we have so much I worry so won't wear them all and feel guilty! I have bought a few accessories to go with stuff people bought. I'm looking for a sun shade for the travel system as well (although its not been needed in the last week!). We got a cheap nappy bin - course we're fortunate that she doesn't poo much so few stinky nappies. When her bum is big enough I plan to switch to washables.

What a brilliant night! She stopped feeding at 9.30 although it took ages to settle her - we have this slumber bear rather than Ewan (it was a gift) and I played the sounds several times to settle her. Then she slept til 2.30! and didn't wake again until 5.45. Brought her in with me and she fell asleep again! Just trying to express for tonight's bottle (hopefully hand pumping for the last time).

usernamegoeshere · 20/05/2013 10:21

Glad to hear about others shopping, thing is i feel so guilty, though no one minds what I buy. We are low on money though, so I'm trying to avoid too much spending.

Ewan arrives tomorrow, we are so in need of something to aid night settling, she only feeds 11, 4 and somewhere between 6 & 9 now, so if we could settle her after the 11 and 4 feeds nights would be amazing.

YummyDollie · 20/05/2013 11:12

Thank god for DVD boxsets I feel like I'm chained to my sofa with the past few days feeding! Anyone else still struggling to feed without a pillow for support I feel like ill never be able to feed baby yummy in public!

birdbrain17 · 20/05/2013 12:14

Yummy I fed in public for the first time yesterday (!) I was quite nervous how to do it without a pillow. I found the way to do it was hold her in cradle position with the arm under her being same side as what she was feeding on and crossed my legs with the opposite leg on top to supporting arm. I know that sounds complicated just trying to help you picture it. I also found it helped to feed her a bit early so she wasn't desperate so it was easier to latch her on. I also have a breast feeding cover that my sil bought me so I wasn't worried about keeping myself covered with clothes.

DH keeps telling me baby bird has more clothes then him, but most stuff is actually presents. I'd love to keep buying more stuff I can always find more things that are useful or more cute clothes but I want to buy a baby bjorn carrier and they're about £50 so trying to restrain my shopping, still DH hasn't looked at the bank statement this month, hope I'm not in trouble when he does Wink

Teapig · 20/05/2013 12:23

Well done on your first public feed bird.

Teapiglet has a lot of small red spots round her neck. At first they appeared on the front of her neck and now they are all the way round. At first I thought they were the result of milk dribbling down but now I wonder if it's a rash and I should go to the GP. Has anyone else had this?

LikeCandy · 20/05/2013 12:39

teapig BabyCandy is covered in little red spots - they started on her face but now they're on her neck, behind her ears, on her torso and arm tops. Her face is now clear (except for 1 impressive zit) after about 2 weeks.
Apparently they're caused by the oil secreting glands starting to work and some babies get full on acne - unlike adult acne it won't scar, but you shouldn't use any products on it, or squeeze the spots.
I guess it may be a similar thing that teapiglet has? Can you call your HV for some advice if you're worried?

BabyCandy had her first set of jabs this morning, she cried & I cried!

On an unrelated, selfish note - I'm annoyed that her name seems to becoming crazy popular. We didn't know any before she was born, I'd never seen a thread on it, but now it's mentioned all the time on the baby names forum! Oh well Envy
