Our first post natal thread!

Cooking & Cleaning can wait till tomorrow
for children grow up we've learnt to our sorrow
So wipe away cobwebs and dust go to sleep
I'm cuddling my baby cause babies don't keep!

A thread to celebrate the highs of life with a gorgeous newborn and the lows of sleepless nights, stitches, feeding traumas & Baby blues.

We've been out 2days in a row now, I bought a nice BF top from mamas and papas, but my boobs are so big I can't get my nips near the slit let alone any boob out for a decent feed, so spent the day pulling up my top completely exposing my newly de-babied tummy, ah well, Wilf appreciated it. :) he does not mess about and just gets on with it, but of a cluster feed this evening, my nips are so tender, I've been reciting nursery rhymes backwards to get past the toe curling pain of the initial latch, I know it will improve once they toughen up, but oh wow is it sore.

Mama and Alex, truly unbelievable how you have both come through this, you are an inspiration. Love seeing your pictures on FB too.

DH is really struggling, his foreman is a dick and can't manage a piss up in a brewery, he had to drive in, an hour trip, to deal with an irate customer his foreman refused to deal with, that the foreman changed the priority of a job so it wasn't ready. He dealt with that, just as he was about to leave the HSE turn up to do a surprise check up, knowing DH was on pat leave, so he stayed to deal with that. Came home at 7pm, the whole day gone. I am fuming and just can't get my head around this dick calling him in. He has decided to return on Tuesday and take the rest of the time owed at a later date... Just annoyed...

MiL is normally lovely and means well, but drives me mad with her advice and opinions. DH is mostly supportive, but often he says it's not worth arguing as they won't change. I mostly ignore her, but can't help feeling annoyed/upset by her comments.

We've had a lovely day :) Faithlet is officially registered and managed to sleep for vital chunks of the time while my Dad looked after her. Also randomly bumped into too in a cafe which was lovely! I think my DH thinks I secretly planned it but it was a genuine coincidence!

Faithlet is feeding well but happily I'm learning how to settle her at night. She was ace this morning - wide awake after she'd fed but sat contentedly in the bouncy chair in the bathroom door while I showered!

I have to say I'm loving having nice weather/spring baby - it's so nice with the glorious sunshine to get out and about. Time to sleep now before she wakes up looking for more boob action!

EssexWelsh · 02/05/2013 22:18

Giddy identical here with bf of an evening, Blake begs for food, head banging etc then cries and head butts the nipple, just almost licking it and doesn't actually take it?? Any luck with an answer as to why?

enjay0811 · 02/05/2013 23:42

tea 1 week is def not too young for cluster feeding - Fleur is 8 days old and has been like it for 2 days. Seemed a lot more settled today and back into her 3 hourly routine but very restless in the evening. Does anyone have any advice on specific things not too eat? Had a mild Chinese curry for tea last night and Fleur has had really bad wind today! Any supplements or tea recommended to help digestion? Have I read peppermint tea somewhere?!

Teapig · 03/05/2013 03:13

Thanks for the advice faith and enjay. I'm hoping the cluster feeding passes soon.

Giddypants · 03/05/2013 04:46

No idea essex do you think colic? But he doesn't scream like ds1 did when he had it and I can settle him in the sling.
I think it may be over tiredness, we've been to Birmingham today, DS2 been I n the sling or car seat and slept virtually all day, and not been head banging or crying this evening, and was asleep by 7:30 where previously it's been 9-10 o'clock who knows they are strange little creatures! Grin

EssexWelsh · 03/05/2013 05:14

A post to whinge, it's 5am and I've had 2 hours sleep, LO will just not settle for longer than an hour plus my right boob has decided to engorge, very hard and painful and currently feeding but DS has decided he's not that hungry so has stopped feeding after 2 mins-argh! I'm so tired!!

Whinge over-thanks!

Trishstar · 03/05/2013 06:50

After my wound being open (but ok when checked by MW and HV) one part that is open (by 2-3mm) is now bleeding. Just waiting for 8am to phone docs for emergency appt xxx

Positive vibes its not infected or anything!

Teapig · 03/05/2013 07:58

trish I hope you're seen very soon and it's not infected. As mw and hv were happy with it earlier hopefully there still is no infection.

essex, I utterly emphathise with lack of settling and engorgement. Teapiglet settles for very short bursts in her basket and would much rather sleep on me. I know how painful engorgement is. Hope your little one has a good feed later from that breast to help it go doen. Hoping you can catch up on some sleep today as well.

HadALittleFaithBaby · 03/05/2013 08:01

Eurgh I'm sympathetic essex. I am tired! Faithlet slept on and off but I kept falling asleep with her on the boob so I lost track of how long she fed for and when she was next due a feed! I think my mistake was being too busy yesterday and not sleeping when she slept in the day. Quiet day today I think! Oh we weighed her yesterday (on the kitchen scales!) and we make her 6lb 1oz! Little chubster.

Ouch trish hoping you get your scar sorted. To be fair, my sister's got infected but with antibiotics and regular dressings it healed fine.

LikeCandy · 03/05/2013 08:23

trish don't panic, mine got infected and settled quite quickly, you can't really tell which 'end' it was now!
I had a week of antibiotics, they made baby a little gassy but no other issues with them :)

usernamegoeshere · 03/05/2013 08:47

So after a few days of feeding almost constantly, yesterday seemed to be 6 hourly, so I expressed a feed for oh (4.5oZ from one boob) and snuck off to spare room thinking I would get 2 hours sleep. 8 hours later I woke up to find a happy swaddled baby sucking a dummy - she didn't even drink expressed feed, though has now fed from both boobs this morning!

Surprised she went 8 hours though. I assume the heavy feeding told my boobs to make extra milk per feed . Best sleep ever though!

Mama1980 · 03/05/2013 09:10

Trish hope you're ok and on the mend soon Thanks

Alex also loves those wrist/ankle rattles, h&m have a few very cheap.
I can't for the life of me remember who posted on fb about the mobile that projected on the ceiling? Does anyone remember who it was? I want to order one for Alex he loves to look up at the trees in the garden so think he would love it, plus need things to keep him occupied, as he seems to have abandoned sleep all together now! Grin

Trishstar · 03/05/2013 09:22

Mama it was me! It's v tech sleepy bear sweet dreams

We tracked one down at Argos! Hard to get hold of but worth it. Saw a few on eBay or an Argos near you might have it xx

Silly question but with the weather being as lovely as it is, does Hunter still need a coat when we are out? xx

In doctors waiting room at the mo x

Trishstar · 03/05/2013 09:23

Thanks candy, faith, tea and mama btw! Xxx

Trishstar · 03/05/2013 09:47

Doc wasn't too worried says should clear on its own but I've got an antibiotic cream anyways xxx

Mama1980 · 03/05/2013 09:54

Glad it's nothing serious trish Grin
Think I will get tracking one of those down thanks!
Alex hasn't been wearing his coat at all, he's just been going out with one layer on mostly. Anything more and he overheats. Dr at the hospital told me that if their tummies are warm then they are warm enough, apparently always better to be a little cool than overheat in the sun. X

Mama1980 · 03/05/2013 09:54

Oh trish sorry but what's it called Blush Smile

Trishstar · 03/05/2013 11:05

Thanks mama x

Will send you a fb MSG x

Teapig · 03/05/2013 13:55

Glad it's not serious trish.

I was also wondering about what LO should wear in this lovely weather. Teapiglet has been wearing a short sleeve vest, baby grow and cardi with a sheet and blanket when in the pram plus but I'm thinking that may be too much in this warm weather so may drop the cardi. Interested in what others are doing.

LikeCandy · 03/05/2013 15:18

BabyCandy is in short sleeve vest / sleepsuit / sun hat when she's out in the carrier, and the same but with a blanket in the pram.
I figure in the carrier she has my body heat, and the pram she's also under the zipped cover.
I asked the health visitor yesterday and she said that was enough, but no short sleeves / trousers yet as they need to be covered up from the sun!

ElliesWellies · 03/05/2013 16:16

Wow, this thread moves so quickly!

Like many of you am having trouble with layers, too hot/cold when out. So tricky because the sun is hot yet it's nippy in the shade.

Have had a bit of a worry re: coldsores, DS aged 2 has one at the moment and am having to stop him kissing DD. I have had them myself so she should have some protection but I made the mistake of googling and read some horror stories. Really got myself into a state the other day about it. There's always something to worry about isn't there?!

DD is one month old today!

username Am jealous of your lovely sleep. I am getting some dummies when I next go to Boots for sure. Which ones do you use?

Giddypants · 03/05/2013 16:31

ellie is it definitely a cold sore? I only ask as I thought ds had one a few weeks ago and worked myself into a tiz about it but he has never had one before and I googled (I know) and it said that most primary infections in children result with them being quite poorly with high temp ect. I took him to the gp who said it looked more like impetigo. it cleared up with some cream Smile

ElliesWellies · 03/05/2013 16:43

Giddy That is very interesting. DS had the same sort of blister in the same place a few weeks back, so I thought it was a coldsore. But he was not ill at all.

I will see how it goes over the weekend, still stop him from kissing her, and if it is still there on monday will take him to the doctor.

Thanks so much for that, hadn't even thought of it.

tattooedapril87 · 03/05/2013 17:22

user and ellie im interested about dummies too- ive tried loads of different types and the boys can't keep any in which makes them sort of pointless!

anybody else get the witching hour(s) yet??
