October 12 - 6 Months already?? Where has the time gone?

Oh no to overnight poos ! angelico I helped her with some of the smaller bits in the pie, shredded the chicken a little so it was easier to gum up. Pasta mainly got played with but a couple of big chunks went in and were chewed up. Lots comes back out after a few mins but that's ok cos she's getting the taste and texture to experiment with! Bread is a bit tricky, goes all claggy in the mouth. TBH the thing she seems to have enjoyed eating most was the tractor flyer that arrived yesterday...

Well smile you are making me brave enough to experiment with some meat :) I found crumpet was good for DD - it's kind of firm enough to hold its shape if you cut a stick of crumpet but soft enough to be gummed and swallowed. Also bread dipped in my dad's homemade leek soup was a surprise hit :)

DD2 slept through last night. DD1 didn't - she has a wobbly tooth and is worried about when it will out. One day I will get a full nights sleep again...

Angelico you are being much braver than me with weaning. Apart from cucumber, DD2 has only had purees. I will try her with some pasta next time I have some. She is dairy intolerant so cheese sticks, which were a hit with DD1, are off the menu. She has had chicken purée so I could try a lump of chicken.

Mmm poos. DD2 is on Nutramigen which causes more frequent green smelly poos. Weaning is actually an improvement! She does one with her morning milk and one most afternoons, usually when some one else is holding her. And as I type this, the morning poo has just appeared.

Morning everyone, I think I need to go back to bed and get out the other side....feeling very irritable today wonder if illusive period is coming?

Well I thought I was doing good with weaning, was planning on combining blw and mush. Ds was doing well and stealing bits of my lunch to then mil hit with nasty comments first was that she was glad it was me feeding him because she wouldn't give him a carrot stick because he'll choke. I let this pass. Then last night she asked how he was getting on and I said good but that he seemed to enjoy my lunch more than his and she gave me a lecture about how I'm rushing him and purees get his digestive system isn't ready for solids blah blah blah. I was speechless which is just aswell because if I could of talked a few choice words about whose baby this is and to Fuck right off would of come out. However I now have niggles, not about him digesting food but choking :( Humph confidence gone :'( stupid mean woman. So how are you feeding crumpets, pasta etc us it baby pasta?

Also on a rant she commented on sunday how ds us Methodist on sunday when his uncle was teasing him with a beer bottle.....errrrr excuse me?! Did ds tell you this because I'm not religious and ds will choose for himself when he is old enough!!! Argh argh argh!!!

Oh defo wrong side of the bed haha feeling daunted by parenting today wish mine were still around for guidance :'( think I may gave to call round and see my mum's bestie for some cuddles :'(

Slightly I don't know the history with your MIL but ignore her on the weaning stuff. I have found purees helpful for teaching her to move food round in mouth and swallow. With the bread etc DD just gums through it till bits break off and she can swallow them. She did have a scary moment with a piece of banana where she managed to bite off a bit and swallow it and needed a pat on the back. But she's also choked on purees too so as long as you're with your DS he'll be fine :) Rant on here but smile sweetly and point out that the guidance may have changed a bit in the last 30 years...

Slightly I can only sympathise with you on the MIL problem. With DD1 my MIL came out with the full series of classics - from "put a bit of honey on her dummy" (DD was about 4 weeks) to "she will choke" to "dairy intolerant? What a load of nonsense". DH now thinks he survived childhood in spite of his mother rather than because of her.

I read some where recently that babies gag reflex is further forward in their mouth than ours. So they will gag more easily but it teaches them the right size of food to swallow and reduces choking.

Angelico and running thanks for the support. As a rule I get on well with mil its just the last few meetings she's been irritating as hell before recently shed always kept her opinions to herself. I don't mind, in fact I welcome advice but feel like she's judging me as a mum ds is my first so it's hard enough!

Hi, does anyone mind if I join in? I was on antenatal and earlier postnatal threads a little but have nt posted for a while.

slightly I m worried about Ds choking as well but he seems to prefer finger foods to purées so I m persevering, have mainly tried fruits and veg. His favourite so far seem to be broccoli, tomatoes cut into quarters and sticks of cucumber. Did nt think much was going in but his poos have dramatically changed so he must be eating more than we thought.

running my lo is dairy intolerant too, I m gutted because dairy formed a large part of my Dd s diet when I weaned her 5 years ago.

slightly I'm lucky as my SIL did BLW with her DS2 so already had changed her mindset.And she's pretty cruisy anyway. Had similar suggestions though about honey to help with reflux and just smiled sweetly!

quicl hello everyone, still away from home so no internet. you guys having exciting time weaning!
I don't have PIL, they both passed away few years ago. I miss not having them around tbh, but I am aware in some families it is not an easy relationship to manage, particularly where grandkids are concerned. My strategy would be to ignore the unhelpful advice and take advantage of free babysitting (probably easier said than done).
No sleep improvement here, I am totally exhausted and looking forward to going home to some sort of lose routine. I was planning to visit my parents they live abroad, but not so sure now seeing how unsetled she is away from home, although it isunlikely this will impove before she is older I guess..

Hello everyone. We have been away but it was a bit disastrous dd not a fan of the travel cot we ended up coming back early as we were all to tired for it to be worth it!
Weaning going ok dd much preferring finger food to mush - I toasted her some bread fingers which she demolished along with some Edam she was less fond of the cucumber & banana (clearly inherited my love of carbs & cheese)
Is anyone else who is currently ebf going to add in formula? It's not top of my list but I was hoping to go to a hen party in June and would need to leave formula (I can't express enough) any advice would be great dd has never had a bottle so I'm not sure how it will all work!
I'm not a big fan of my MIL but just tend to ignore her! Luckily I've an amazing mother couldn't have got through the last 6 months without her!

Hello all. LO woke up at 1 for a feed and I haven't been able to get back to sleep. I have a bit of a cold and I'm just feeling a bit off. I never ever get ill, but the past couple of weeks I've been feeling a bit run down. I'm on weight watchers as well, not sure if that's got anything to do with it. I might be making wrong choices, but I am having lots of fruit and veg.
Wound now that H has hit that magical 6 month mark I'm a lot more relaxed about the formula. Im still bf and want to continue for as long as we both want to but if I did have to go out, I wouldn't mind as much as I would have a couple of months ago. You might be able to skip the bottles all together and just go for a sippy cup. I'm not sure which to recommend as I'm still trying to find one that suits my LO.

Well after having 5 lovely night with just one waking around 3am he went back to every hour again last night I'm praying its a one off and will go back tonight.

I fear I've painted mil in very bad light, we get on really it's just the last few meetings she's been very prickly my dh has told me to just ignore which I am but I'm easily irritated at the mo hahaha. My own parents have passed away and I miss them massively at the mo the stuff I'm doing with pil I wish I was doing with my own parents and I think mil sometimes forgets she isn't my mother which is lovely but suffocating on occasion. So I talk to my mum's best friend who has become my surrogate mum if you know what I mean.

Any good plans for the weekend? It's lovely here today so I'm going for a run when hubby us home from work....signed up for great North run so need to get started again! Then tonight my hubbies bestie and fiancee are coming for a meal to celebrate their engagement!!! So chuffed for them, that's 3 sets of friends engaged now so better get this body wedding out

thechick sympathies bout not sleeping typical isn't it, I've never done WW as I have absolutely no self discipline when it comes to food but my friend is doing well she is however taking vitamins along side maybe you need a duvet day to recharge your batteries. My god I'd kill for a spa day!

wound I stopped bf at around 4 months due to being pretty consistently poorly with tonsilitus, conjunctivitis, cold blah blah and just needed help from dh that first bottle of formula was horrible but I feel less guilty now. 6 months is,amazing! Wish I could of done as long if you don't need or want to do formula I'd stick with booby but that's just me formula takes too much organising on days out Hahahaha

On another note sex drive us still here (what the?) Hubby can't believe his luck! Think physically and somewhere in my subconscious I must be ready to get back in the saddle so to speak! Or maybe it's cos ds is sleeping better?

Hello all. I hear rumours that the UK weather might improve over the next couple of weeks. I really hope so. I will be back in the UK next weekend. I find it much harder to get over jet lag when I'm cold. I think my body tries to hibernate.

Woundbobbin if you have never used bottles, your DD might object to a bottle more than the formula. I suggest trying a couple of times with bottles and, if not successful, try a cup instead. A Doidy cup works for many.

Now I have a question for anyone that is formula feeding. How much are your DC having? DD2 has been drinking 5 180ml bottles per day. In the last few days this has dropped a little so it is more like 4.5 bottles. However I think DD1 used to drink more than 180ml in each bottle.

Thanks for the advice re formula - running I think she might reject a bottle today she point blank refused to be spoon fed so imagine she may not take well to a bottle - she has sips of water out of a cup so maybe I could just use that?
Slight It's very nice of you to say bf for 6 mths is an achievement it's more or less the 1st positive comment I've had am mainly being told I must start leaving dd ( for my own good apparently) I certainly don't think you've anything to feel guilty about formula is not a class A drug! Frankly I think we all deserve a medal for keeping these small people alive for 6 mths! - hope you had a good run I'm finding it quite hard to get back up to fitness was also thinking of entering something so id have something to train for! I am very very slow at the moment but on a day like today do really enjoy a run round the park!

Ps does anyone have any ideas of finger foods for breakfast - dd will pick up porridge from her tray but won't let me spoon fed - the porridge goes everywhere and I'm running out of clean clothes!

chick fell asleep during solids? re ww, make sure we eat enough as you are still bf! I am considering joining as still struggling with weight, it os quite depressing really, 5kg to go to pre-pregnancym the worst thing is that I lost it all when lo was 3months old but then tiredness from sleepless nights cought up with me and the only way to keep going is eating a lot, incl lots of carbs as much easier to cook when tiredm and cakes etc. will be a struggle to wean meself as I enjoy my sugar fix!
wound I would not worry about giving formula, after all diary is ok after 6 months, but I second running bottle more likely to be the problem , it is in our house, S I am hoping to move to cup, hopefully would be ok. re: breakfast finger food, this would be challenging no? cheese toasties? feta filled filo pastry fingers? french toast? croque monsieur (not sure about the ham..)..not sure this is suitable, have not read enough about blw... we make it up as we go along..

we have not done any swimming yet, my RL friend told me she paid for the water babies which was fun, but he did not really learn to swim ( too young she thought) so she had to have to pay again when her ds was 6yo to teach him to swim. However, I think it is important to take them swimming as it is fun, and they get used to water. We have not done it yet as have been doing baby yoga, sensory etc so a bit too much, and the weather does not inspire me to get wet :( but now it is getting better (running I think we still far from sitting under the tree feeding our los in uk but it is getting warmer,if still wet!) I hoe I can get organised.
hm is is a long post, better get on with unpacking while everyone still in bed. Do you find it difficult to stay in bed in the morning now it is light at ungodly hour? I know I moan about the winter but not sure about the whole BST...

Slightly I have a number of friends who really rate water babies - I think it's mainly about getting them used to the water rather than teaching them to swim but regardless I expect you will have a great time initially dd used to frown at me when we went swimming now she splashes around arms & legs like a windmill
