Our first thread has almost finished so I thought we'd need a new one!

OP posts:

Does anyone else have emotional moments where you just feel so so blessed and can't believe it's all real?!

Pascha · 04/04/2013 22:10

I have emotional moments where I realise that both children are in bed asleep and I can break out the wine Wink

Louise My photo was from my phone, I just bluetoothed it to the pc then uploaded it. Can you do that?

Washing has increased exponentially here Apple Shock I just can't work out how we went from one load most days to two loads a day just from the arrival of one little boy! Its all I can do to get it washed and dried. Folded is a bonus. There are currently three baskets full waiting to go upstairs and I have used two babygro and vest sets straight from the drier already today.

2nd imms tomorrow. On we go...

Birdies · 04/04/2013 23:02

Lol pascha! I've got a real craving for rose wine. There's a bottle in the fridge. But I haven't drunk since finding out I was pregnant. Can I? Is it ok to drink when breastfeeding and if so how? Tell me tell me!!

meringue yes kind of - I stared at her in wonder earlier thinking she's the most amazing perfect little thing I've ever seen (well, equal to DD1 of course!) and I can't believe I made her. I can't get my head round the miracle of it all!

I've seen some of Bedtime Live too (sorry, can't remember who mentioned it). I think that's partly what's made me rethink our routine. It's quite a good programme except the woman on it calling everyone darling is a bit annoying.

I find asda cheaper but we get nappies from tesco so tend to shop there. Got a feeling tesco are getting a bit more competitive though.

Birdies · 04/04/2013 23:05

Ah it was louise who mentioned it. Can I go back a page once ive started typing to check who wrote something?

Waffle waffle ramble ramble. You'd think I was on the wine wouldn't you?! Time for bed.....

glorious · 05/04/2013 09:26

Here's some info on drinking while breastfeeding: kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/lifestyle/alcohol/. Basically the alcohol does go through to your milk but not in huge quantities. It peaks between 30 and 90 minutes and then reduces like your blood alcohol level (which in general terms is a unit an hour). So if you want to avoid the baby getting any just time it carefully. Ironically drinking while feeding is what I was advised to do - feels strange but it doesn't go through straight away and gives you the maximum time before the next feed. But many sources of advice say that the odd bit is fine.

It does affect your let down and how much the baby drinks too but again this isn't usually a problem if it's not lots or frequently.

So I'd have a small glass if I wanted one Smile Wine But I seem to have gone off it!

Birdies · 05/04/2013 09:30

Thanks glorious! The thought of drinking while feeding kind of puts me off though!! I'm now picturing the scene of me with bottle of wine in one hand, baby on boob and fag in the other.....I think I might stick to chocolate Grin

glorious · 05/04/2013 09:50

I know, it doesn't feel right at all! It was the NCT counsellor who suggested it (I didn't ask btw, it was a class, I'm not a raging alcoholic I promise!). But she also suggested making bechamel out of any spare expressed milk and I definitely won'r be doing that!

You could perhaps just wait until DD is in bed as that's likely to be your longest gap between feeds? But sleep is probably more attractive by then... chocolate is always good.

Meringue33 · 05/04/2013 10:19

So naughty LO was up for a feed at 2.44am. Did not take very much but lay there on my lap giving me so many smiles. I know you're not even supposed to make eye contact during night but who could resist smiling back!! Did not go back to sleep til 4.44...

happyhow · 05/04/2013 12:26

Meringue I'm the same! He keeps looking at me with this huge smile which says I'm the best thing he's ever seen. Shame it's at 4am.

Glorious and Birdies - I drink while breastfeeding. I never have more than 2 small glasses of wine at any one time and try to time it so he's not getting much. I usually only drink with a meal too. He doesn't seem affected in anyway and doesn't behave any differently the next day.

lollipoppi · 05/04/2013 12:43

Grin At pascha!
I had a very emotional day yesterday after finally plucking up the courage to watch last weeks OBEM I spent the entire day just cuddling both my children - still not watched this weeks!

My washing is out of control, our dryer has broken and there is not enough radiators in the world to dry it all!

DP is scoring brownie points today, he has booked me in to have my hair done today
To be honest I couldn't give a shit about my hair I'm just enjoying sitting on my arse for at least the next 3 hours!! (I have a lot of hair) Grin

Pascha · 05/04/2013 13:25

I only have one child today. I feel like I'm on holiday.

mrsbugsywugsy · 05/04/2013 13:40

I have the odd drink while bfing. either a small glass of wine or a half pint of beer, after dd has fed, every few days. I went on a night out a couple of weeks ago and I had expressed milk before hand so I could drink a bit more, and discovered that I am now pretty tipsy after two pints of beer.

mrsbugsywugsy · 05/04/2013 13:43

how do you cut your babies' nails? dd's used to be soft enough to break off but now they're getting harder andsharp. but I am too scared to use nail scissors on her.

Pascha · 05/04/2013 13:45

Nibble them. Much more control.

I have a small glass of wine after dinner 2-3 nights a week. Baby is in bed and won't need feeding for a few hours.

CreepyCrawly · 05/04/2013 14:00

Yep I nibble little nails too.

No sleep last night. For me anyway. We went to a friends for dinner yesterday evening and Nancy slept for a couple of hours while we were out. She never sleeps in the evenings so I psyched myself up to have a bad night. She slept from 10 until 7! And quietly too.

lolli enjoy your hair appointment! I'm planning on getting mine done next week, thank god for mobile hairdressers. My roots are looking awful but I can almost guarantee that as soon as its time to wash the dye out, madam will need a feed so I'm not risking it just yet.

I've got all my washing out on the line today, and a (first attempt at) banana bread in the oven. Hope everyone's having a nice day :)

Cejay8 · 05/04/2013 14:18

Pascha, I only have DD today too; I get one or two days a week with just her and I call those my days off! Wink

glorious · 05/04/2013 14:19

I wish I wanted a glass of wine, I miss it even though I don't actually want it Sad That makes no sense I know!

I use a glass nail file because scissors scare me. If only I had time to file mine too!

salt1 · 05/04/2013 14:42

floss has been asleep since 11. we were suppossed to go to the farm but i thought i would let her sleep, but she has carried on ... should i wake her?

Pascha · 05/04/2013 14:56

Dan has also been asleep a while. He had his 2nd jabs this morning and he's a bit grumpy when awake so I'm leaving him to sleep as much as he wants. I would leave her to wake naturally.

AppleCrumples · 05/04/2013 14:57

Hi all a bit Envy at haircuts mine is in desperate need but no idea when it will get done :(

Tried to take dcs to soft play but it was choca with a huge que to get in so we went to the library instead (rock n roll eh) was all.going well until Ivy exploded an i remembered i used the spare clothes from change bag and didn't replace them Hmm Thankfully primark just round the corner Grin . Sometimes wonder why i try to leave the house with them all!

I'll be glad when easter hols over and i.can have a break!

BuntyCollocks · 05/04/2013 15:21

Hello all, hope everyone is well. Had the 2nd jabs on wed, and the cold dd was threatening with has morphed into The cold From Hell.

I have had 4 hours sleep the past two nights. Wee soul can't breathe at night despite karvol, plug ins etc.

Thank god for in laws. Mine are visiting until tomorrow, lovely DMIL has taken dd downstairs so I can grab some kip, and DFIL has DS looking for batteries for his train.

So with that... Night night!

BuntyCollocks · 05/04/2013 15:22

Oh, pascha and anyone looking for post baby wear. The asda wonderfit jeans were shit. Sainsburys luxury leggings however are phenomenal.

Birdies · 05/04/2013 16:33

Sleep well bunty!

I'm loving shopping with a sleeping baby attached to me. She's getting heavy now though so I did get a bit of shoulder ache. DH was 'working from home' so he could look after DD1.

meringue I had tears in my eyes today over my little beauty so I'm definitely doing the emotional thing! In fact even DH did as well!

Right, just another quick sleep question for the ladies with toddlers. If your toddler wakes early say, or gets only a quick nap and seems tired, do you change whole bedtime time - ie do you then bring bedtime forward or stick to the same time?

Birdies · 05/04/2013 16:35

Ps I also think best to leave baby sleeping as I think they're asleep cos they must need it. The only time I wouldnt is a couple of hours before actual bedtime

BuntyCollocks · 05/04/2013 17:51

Thanks birdies!

I'd stick to the same bedtime, hard as it is. I may bring it forward by 15m or so, but nothing spectacular.

Fairly sure I've got mastitis. :( can't get a heat, but have a temp, and a sore patch on my boob. I pumped after I fed her and massaged and got another 2oz Shock, and have taken ibuprofen and am sat on my arse.

Feeling marginally better, so I'm hoping I've caught it before it properly develops.
