Our first thread has almost finished so I thought we'd need a new one!

OP posts:

I love looking at all the babies they are just too cute

I also have a noisy sleeper, DH and i actually do sleep in the spare room. I go for first part of the night and we swap when until she wakes for middle of night feed. Really need to sort her room out when we get back from holiday.

Welcome lots, my DD2 is a crap sleeper as well, so you are not alone. She is BF but her one expressed bottle DH gives at 11 she only drinks about 3oz every night. You could try stretching the daytime feeds by 15min for couple of days, then another 15min etc up to max 4 hours and see if it makes a difference to night sleep (Baby secrets routine)

Had such a nice 3 hours with no kids Smile bless the MIL.

Progress of sorts on packing front, managed to half pack kids suitcase but it's already full without a nappy in sight! Not only do I hate packing but I also have zero ability to pack light and with lil miss pukey guts it's out of control.. Sad

Hi lots my little one has a hernia too - let us know what the consultant says. I know they're supposed to get better on their own and Molly's isn't that big, but they are a bit odd looking, aren't they?!

Sorry about the nights - I was also pulling my hair out a couple of weeks ago since we were not getting more than 3/4 hours at a time, but the last couple of nights I've put her down at 8 and fed once or twice before 7am. Yesterday was 8-2 then 2.30-7.30 which was amazing. So, they can change very quickly and generally don't seem to have any particular reason for it. We're EBF but I haven't changed anything related to feeds at all. I know that's not too helpful, but so much is going on in their amazing little bodies and brains that I've been telling myself not to overthink everything which has done bugger all, because I always overthink everything

As for noises when they sleep... Molly cries, whimpers, smiles, laughs. I love it - you can see the emotions so clearly. Ha ha, creepy DHs have selective hearing across the board... I have to shake him awake if I want a hand in the night.

Meringue33 · 03/04/2013 22:03

LO has taken to wakening up before mummy and having a bit of a chat to the animals on his mobile. Seems to be able to entertain himself for quite a while before deciding he's bored/hungry and needs to wake me up properly with a cry.

Cejay8 · 04/04/2013 06:43

How's everyone getting their Babies to nap during the day? S seems to rely on napping on the move but some days I'd like to stay home! She'll happily nap whilst being cuddled which is lovely but mostly when I try putting her down her eyes ping open!

She's great at night and been sleeping through from 7 weeks - I hope she doesn't regress. Amazingly she's doing 8-7.30am straight at the moment. Unfortunately we're not feeling the benefit as DS has had HSP (I hadn't heard of it either!) for 2.5 wks now and was sick as well last night. He's been waking at least twice a night, poor thing.

We have our first swimming lesson in a couple of weeks time; she loves the bath so I hope she loves the pool too. Other than that she tags along with DS at play groups. She's starting to like touching the lamaze toys and reaching the toys on her bouncy chair/baby gym.

The best buy has to be the Morrk baby wrap; I use it every day and it makes getting out the house with them both easier - expensive but worth it. Ours was a gift but I'm going to buy the size 2 soon.

I update from my phone but Ipad mini has been ordered so will sort out a photo shortly.Grin

katolla · 04/04/2013 08:36

Cejay (autocorrect suggests veejay.. umm...), DD is the same, daytime she will only sleep on me or in a moving buggy. If that's the payoff for sleeping straight through then I suppose it's worth it - I either have to go for very long walks or stay on the sofa, no middle ground.

Pascha · 04/04/2013 09:06

Nothing like a soaking wet through to the sleeping bag baby to wake everyone up loudly at 5.45am Grin. Full strip and change soon sorted that and I now know I need a 3rd bag - one on, one in the wash and one spare for soaking babies.

Daniel will nap in his swing chair if I set it to top speed, other than that if he crashes on his mat I just cover him there with a blanket and keep the cats away. I'm trying to find the best way to put him down in the evening without it taking an hour or more. He doesn't want to go in the crib to start with so I'm still feeding to sleep, more or less.

lollipoppi · 04/04/2013 09:07

Meringue that's so cute! Smile

Ceejay LO only naps on me or in the car too. If she falls asleep on me I can put her to sleep on her belly in the Moses and she will sleep for a good hour or so.

Last night DD vommed in her sleep, it was a good job I was awake as it was like a fountain coming out of her!! Shock

Lostbobbles · 04/04/2013 10:44

Pascha - we had a 4.45 mass poop explosion, it was so loud I actually thought it was DHShock.

Have since had another one followed by a projectile vom Hmm. ( I went to tk maxx and stocked up on sleepbags as seem to go through at least 2 a night)

Naps are short if I'm in the house will sleep all day if out and about, which is also a problem as she sleeps too much.

Night sleep is still crappy last night was worse than usual 7.30-10.30, 11-1.30 1.45-4.45 (woken by the force of nature) then dozed until 7.30 Hmm ( keep telling myself at least she's consistent and not lulling me into a false sense of security)

Wuxiapian · 04/04/2013 11:14

Bubs will fight his sleep through the day, but is soo much better on the move - indoors or out!

He's been sleeping better through the night, but will still wake once or twice, in which I give him his dummy to settle him back to sleep. I've cut out the night feed totally now.

Finally managed to put a pic up!

Wuxiapian · 04/04/2013 11:14

Not well enough, though. He is sideways, too. Tut.

AppleCrumples · 04/04/2013 12:56

Wux so cute what a lovely smile!

Ivy sleeps ok at night gen about 9-1, 1.15-4/5 then up about 6/7. Durinf the day she will sleep wherever she is so in bouncy chair or on baby gym. If she has trouble stayinf asleep for long enough she goes in the pram and i run the hoover! Sounds mad but works a treat Grin think it helps that in term time she will sleep on the move in pram on the school.run so she doesn't end up over tired.

Finally dtd last night. Dp v happy as he has waited a loooong time :)

Birdies · 04/04/2013 13:44

apple lol so did we! Must have been something in the air Grin

Very cute wux. I do think we have a lovely bunch of babies. Maybe I'm biased, but who cares!

cejay I swaddle and put baby in her bed upstairs now. She self settles every 90 minutes. It's lovely but each nap is only 30-40 minutes so I feel a bit bad that she's not sleeping on me and getting longer. How long does everyone else's baby sleep during the day at the mo?

Anyone here an expert on toddler sleep and can help me or maybe I should post in the sleep topic?

AppleCrumples · 04/04/2013 14:15

Birdies have had 3 toddlers so i could try. Am not an expert though! Whats up?

Grin Blush at something in the air lol

Birdies · 04/04/2013 14:57

This will be boring for everyone else so please ignore (apart from apples!)

Well DD1 is 21 months. She self settled as a baby but I undid it as I loved settling her to sleep. She used to take about 20 mins to rock to sleep. Now it's up to 45 mins. She's tired but she just wants to stay awake.

She's always gone to bed when we do. Current routine is:

Wakes about 830am
Naps about 130pm (after the half hour fight against sleep!)
I wake her at 3pm
Upstairs at 945pm
Asleep at 1030pm

She almost always only sleeps 10 hours at night but usually straight through.

I'm just wondering how to get her to sleep the 12 hours at night that people talk about. I often hear people saying their toddler sleeps 7 til 7 or 8 til 8. Am I doing something wrong do you think? Does a late bedtime have anything to do with it (I can't see how though as she can't know the difference between an 8pm vs 10pm bedtime)?

Birdies · 04/04/2013 15:04

An extra bit: so ideally I'd like to get her to bed earlier, eg 8pm, but not if that means she's awake at 6am! And not sure how to get her to self settle after so long of rocking to sleep.

Lora1982 · 04/04/2013 15:07

Im scared of usingthe sleep bags, ive got about five of them though! Im not sure if he will be warm enough in one. Im still wrapping him in a crochet thing with his arms out (so semi swaddling)

Im upgrading him from moses to crib this weekend cos the cots too big for my room and hes getting too big for the moses basket.

Hes got rash on his foreheadlike dry skin, im assuming its exzema or something, just going to try aloe vera and e45 for now cos im not keen on the idea of using anything harsher just yet... Might not even need it.

Nearly shit myself earlier...tv went funny. I had visions of hours of boredom when im feeding with no tv to watch. Fine now. Its good to scare yourself every now and then keeps you alive Grin

Angielka · 04/04/2013 15:15

lovely lovely babies!

birdies can you try experimenting a bit - bringing bedtime forward by 15 mins at a time say, and seeing whether it affects wake up time? I'm no expert but DD1 is 30 months. She always seems to wake up around the same time no matter what time she goes down so you might be pleasantly surprised. For settling I don't know - DD1 sucks her thumb, which is her way of getting to sleep. It might affect her nap if she sleeps longer at night, but then again if you're waking her, it might not.

As for baby naps cejay it's the thumb again I'm afraid. Thumb or my finger to get her drowsy if napping at home in moses basket or dummy if she lets me or nothing if napping in pram or car. The sling sends her straight off too.

We are snot central over here. Nothing like looking after two kids when you feel rubbish.

Pascha · 04/04/2013 15:16

Birdies what happens if you just do teeth, pjs, story, bed and leave her awake? Ds1 usually refuses to lie down, especially now he's in a bed since this weekend, and he brmms his cars in bed for a few minutes but he's usually down within half an hour (when I go in and pull covers up and remove the cars Hmm)

HV turned up today just before we were due to go out, I had forgotten all about the appointment Shock. Anyway she weighed Dan and he's now 12lb9oz at 12 weeks and following the 25th centile all the way Smile

Got to go, he's just woken up...

glorious · 04/04/2013 15:52

awh lovely smile wu

lora the sleeping bags are surprisingly warm for something so thin. Do you have 2.5tog ones? That's what we're using and our room is about 18 at night or a bit less.

Ellen tends to feed to sleep or in the day I can bounce her to sleep. The most reliable way of getting her to sleep in the day is the sling, and she only really sleeps for long periods in the day on me. So she sounds quite similar to lots of the others.

Pascha · 04/04/2013 16:10

Wux your DS is lovely.

Lora 2.5tog bags are very snuggly indeed.

So Daniel has just now rolled over front to back. We're in for trouble now...

AppleCrumples · 04/04/2013 16:21

Sorry meant to check back earlier but i have a mountain of washing to deal with!

Birdies do you have a bedtime routine (teeth bath story bed)? If she self settler before am sure shr still can.

I would put a predictable routine in place so she knows whats coming and then (as someone ekse suggested bring it forward 15 mins each night til you reach an earlier bedtime. All mine were in bed by 7 at that age and having the evenibg to yourself is wonderful

Not sure about the settling you could leave her to it and if she gets up etc you go.back and quietly pop her back in bed. Tbh at her age woukd prob only take a few nights to have her settled. Don't worry about her waking earlier mine get up at 7 no matter what time they go to bed :)

Really hope this helps x

Wuxiapian · 04/04/2013 16:27

LOL, Lora!!

It's proving difficult getting bubs weighed. Finally find out my GP's HV service is no more as "the room's unsafe", so he hasn't been weighed since 6 week check, almost 4 weeks ago. Have to mission across town to a different clinic next week. Tut.

All this talk of swaddles and sleeping bags (and dtd) reminds me that I ought to try get bubs back into his crib...

Lostbobbles · 04/04/2013 16:54

Had Lois weighted today not as chunky as I thought 11lbs5. She's also poorly again got temp 38.6Hmm Luckily i already booked dr appoint this morning to discuss the reflux so will get her checked at same time.

Lostbobbles · 04/04/2013 16:55

Apples- your washing situ must be horrendous

AppleCrumples · 04/04/2013 17:07

Quite frankly lost my washing is out of control Shock and my washing machine is starting to sound distinctly over worked!

Sorry Lois is poorly hope shes better soon
