Our first thread has almost finished so I thought we'd need a new one!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CreepyCrawly · 26/03/2013 09:12

I'm pretty sure the leaky nappies were down to a too small vest. She's had baggy vests on the last few days and no leaks so far.

I have a (possibly silly) question. I'm going to my mums tomorrow, first time I'm taking her by myself. It's an hours drive away, what clothes should I put her in for the car? I don't want to put her in her coat because she'll be too hot with the heaters on. Will a little cardigan be ok? What about a hat?

AppleCrumples · 26/03/2013 09:31

Eagle i also.have bf app on phone. Ivy feeds roughly every 2-21/2 hours in day sonetimes hourly just before bed and goes about 3-5 between feeds at night. Shes a quick feeder though so is only on for 5-10 mins. Can't imagine how those of you feeding longer cope x

Bugsy hope all ok and your little one is fine.

Bunty hope wonder weekis quicky over. Think we just had the 8 week one - not sure as she was 3 weeks early...

Hope everyone got a good nights sleep and has a good day today.

eagleray · 26/03/2013 10:23

Thank you so much for all your replies re BF times. I've got an app too and can see that our timings are pretty similar, so we are normal after all! DD is being weighed this afternoon so fingers crossed she's actually put some weight on this time...

Creepy - not a silly question re travelling in the car. Funnily enough, I've done similar journey to my mum's with DD. I think I just put her in normal clothes (vest/babygro) with a blanket over her torso/legs. The car is heated to 22/23c and so reckoned she didn't need any more than that. I did find that after the car journey she was very, very sleepy for hours afterwards - as if she was lulled into an extra deep sleep! I love car journeys - nice to get out and about and see the world, listen to the radio and have some peace and quiet (as long as they're not awake and screaming!)

Lora - that's lovely long sleep. Good luck with the NCT group today. We had to get up and out the door for immunisation appt first thing today - boy that was a challenge! Luckily I wasn't the only mum with unbrushed hair in the waiting room...

mrsbugsywugsy · 26/03/2013 10:38

creepy I have been wondering the same thing! do you heat the car before putting her in?

so I have looked at some old threads and hopefully dd won't get the pox because I am bfing and I have immunity.

Wuxiapian · 26/03/2013 10:42

We put bubs in his normal clothes and some mittens for car journeys and he seems happy enough.

Eagleray, how'd it go at the appt?

Bubs has his 1st jabs tomorrow morning. Not looking forward to it. At all.

CreepyCrawly · 26/03/2013 10:46

Lovely, thanks for the replies. bugsy, yeah I usually get the car running about 10 minutes before I'm (hoping) to leave.

eagleray · 26/03/2013 10:53

Wuxiapian jabs appt was fine in the end - was in such a rush I didn't really have time to think about it. She had a needle into each thigh - first one she didn't flinch, and the second one made her cry, but by the time I'd got her back into her car seat, she'd stopped. Once we were home, she appeared hungry, so decided to make myself a coffee before I sat down to feed her and then she suddenly passed out!

mrsbugsywugsy I must be a bit harsh - have never heated the car first! I think it's because I'm always running late... Sounds like good news re the chickenpox. DD seems to have avoided my flu bug from hell due to BF (have accidentally coughed and sneezed over her a fair bit...)

Talking of heating - I noticed during the 5am feed this morning that the bedroom was only 14c (the Gro Egg thermometer thing was making a bit of a fuss about it and glowing blue). DD seemed fine - she's got a merino gro bag with a little blanked over the top - does anyone else sleep in such baltic temperatures?

Wuxiapian · 26/03/2013 11:09

I keep forgetting that it's now 2 jabs - was only the 1 with DS1 14 years ago...
I Hope she rests well.

We're living in arctic conditions - bedroom being about 12 degrees, but baby's in bed with us, so we just about keep warm!

mrsbugsywugsy · 26/03/2013 11:14

eagle if we're only doing a short journey I don't heat the car, I just put dd in outdoor clothes. but if it is a long journey then she would get too hot if she was left in them. I've only done long journeys with a passenger who can take her hat and blanket off when it warms up but I think if I was doing a long journey alone then that's what I'd do.

our room is cold at night (don't know temperatures) but dd wears a vest, baby grow, cotton swaddle and blanket, and seems happy enough.

happyhow · 26/03/2013 11:57

Our room is Baltic too - sometimes getting down to 12/13oC but usually hovering around 14 in the depths of the night! Bailey has a vest and babygro on with a shawl and fleecey blanket over him then the the little 'duvet' that came with his Moses basket which is 3 tog. He seems pretty cosy with that although his hands are usually very cold. I used to put socks on them to act like gloves but I don't bother anymore. I just hold them while he's feeding to warm them up and boost the heating for an hour to bring the temp up a bit.

eagleray · 26/03/2013 12:17

Ah yes, the poor little cold hands. I did wonder about gloves for DD at night but she doesn't seem that bothered. Besides she's a bit of a mitten chucker..

I've jumped in a hot bath while DD sleeps off her jabs - heaven. Also think I may have a touch of vasospasm as the nips are excruciating after being outside earlier. Warming up nicely now Smile

lollipoppi · 26/03/2013 15:16

DD also had her jabs this morning, she isn't as brave as yours eager ..... She screamed and cried all the way home bless her Hmm
She is fast asleep now

I would just put in normal clothes with a blanket over her, which can be easily removed if you think she is too warm

I am also sleeping in attic temperatures!! ..... But I've sneakily been turning the heating on when doing the night feed Smile

Louise85 · 26/03/2013 16:17

Ah Lolli- that's not nice, always feel terrible when they cry but it's for the best - hope she has a good sleep for you tonight as well.

Ds got weighed today - he's 9 weeks, and 14lbs!!! Moved up to 91st percentile Shock ... we are completely in 3-6 month clothes already. He's still not sleeping through the night - even though he's on hungry baby formula, 6 bottles of 6oz a day....any suggestions. Was following Gina (loosely) - but battled to stick to times, so have lost track of how much he sleeps - do you keep your LO awake during the day? for how long? Ds can only manage about an hour, maybe 1.5 at a time before he's ready for a nap.

Dd also woke up snot encrusted at 11:15 Shock ... so had an unexpected morning with just Ds (and got nothing done!!)

Anyone doing anything nice over Easter? We've got family coming to visit so next couple days will involve some serious house cleaning Sad but really looking forward to some company.

BuntyCollocks · 26/03/2013 16:52

We've got family coming for Easter, too, both sides. My parents are arriving tonight, and DH's on Saturday afternoon after mine leave.

I'm cautiously optimistic we're over the worst of that wonder week. She's ate and napped better today.

BuntyCollocks · 26/03/2013 16:55

Also, revelation. I read they should only be awake a max of 90m after a nap. She's been awful from day one and will happily have one massive nap in the morning and then go from 1pm to 10pm! So, have been putting her down as I read and, miraculously, she's been sleeping. Hopefully this will mean an easier time trying to put her down tonight.

Lora1982 · 26/03/2013 17:02

My house is freezing too hes ok in his sleepsuits and a big crochet blanket though. I put mittens on at night cos of the cold and because he self harms. The dr said the hands being cold doesnt mean they are cold he said to feel the tummy.

Didnt make the nct group. But i managed to go buy a cookie dough cheesecake and lasagna :-D

eagleray · 26/03/2013 17:33

Smile at the self harming Lora only because DD does similar, but it's me she harms! Am often woken in the night by a flailing arm punching me on the nose, or I get caught by one her sharp scratchy nails.

Well all hell has broken loose now after a period of quiet after the immunisations. DD had an explosive poo, destroying a PFB outfit, pillow, pillowcase and duvet cover in the process. As soon as she was bathed and changed, she had a terrible screaming fit and the poor thing is clinging to my shoulder. I think she's only gathering her breath until she starts screaming again. I'm desperate for a sleep as still recovering from the flu but think I'm going to be busy...

Lora1982 · 26/03/2013 18:09

Dexter was like that after his jabs cos he had a temp. Have you checked hers? I was amazed at how fast calpol worked if that helps

newbie6 · 26/03/2013 19:25

Hi all,

V jealous buntycollocks at your LO sleeping from 1pm till 10pm, that's amazing! My LO will be 11 weeks on Friday and only has 30 to 45min naps during the day and isn't sleeping through yet but to be fair to him, he sleeps from 6.30pm till about 11pm when I wake him to feed but he then only lasts till about 2 and then has been waking again around 5.30am so not sure if this is the infamous 11week wonder week!

X

Lostbobbles · 26/03/2013 20:09

Newbie my DD is on similar pattern. Very EnvyEnvy of all the bf long sleepers (dd2 has no excuse then ) She is a quick feeder and goes 2.5-3 hours in daytime. Have tried to get her to eat more in the day but she either doesn't want it or pukes Sad

Daytime I try to keep her up for a min 1 hour in every 3 but its very hard when out and about

We are going to visit my family this weekend and then we are off to Egypt for a week Grin been busy purchasing today Grin

Octane- skiing trip sounded fab, defo going to try go next year (loving the nanny idea, I was thinking club med with the crèche.

Creepy my best buy has been a morrck blanket, I am in and out of the car so much and is so much better and more comfortable than a thick pram suit (bit pricy though)

Pascha · 26/03/2013 20:10

Waaahhh! I got both boys to sleep all by myself as DH is still at work, in bed and crib respectively, without tears from the snotty miserable coldy one (thanks Calpol) or from the fussy milk monster!

I am now languishing in a very hot bath after a hard day shopping at Bluewater with
My mum who bought me shoes, lunch and several million things for the children.

The day started off so badly at 5.15am by tears from DS1 and I ran out of inhaler so had emergency script from GP for that. Luckily the day got better and better. A little old lady complimented us on bfing in Coffee Republic which was really lovely and we had a good chat. I am knackered now but very happy Smile

I am in a Hot Bath
Ner ner ner ner ner...

BuntyCollocks · 26/03/2013 21:51

No no no, newbie she is awake without a nap of any description, from 1pm to 10pm.

My mother has just rocked her to sleep. After my day starting at 4am, I'm off for some zzzzzzzzz

newbie6 · 26/03/2013 22:16

Oh goodness buntycollocks, I thought you meant your LO was asleep, you poor mummy! I will stop moaning as you must be knackered you poor thing. Lets hope it's a phase and you will soon get your LO to sleep better.

X
