Our first thread has almost finished so I thought we'd need a new one!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lollipoppi · 23/03/2013 15:06

DD also spits hers out if its not warmed! Would be so much easier if she would have it at room temp!

Went out to my friends house last night for the first time since DD arrived, and received the SOS call from DP after 1 hour ....... 1 HOUR!! Angry

I feel a bit trapped today, the weather is SO bad here! It's been like a blizzard for the last 2 days I can't even open my patio doors as the snow has built up and frozen! Stuck indoors with a newborn and a bored toddler is no fun!

Lora1982 · 23/03/2013 15:31

1 hour (snigger) did you break him in gently or just up and out? I left him while i went an slept one afternoon so then he realised how hard it was in preparation for me going out. Wont happen much now hes back on the boob though so hes getting off lightly.

I was thinking perhaps the nipple shields i used help with dexter accepting bottles. Or perhaps hes just a fatty and will accept food however it comes.

Currently trying to reason for and against buying a load of 6+ month clothes cos he will need them and i havent got any, i will be poor then ml wages will be at 50%. Sod it. I'll get them!!

Meringue33 · 23/03/2013 16:41

Thanks guys
If you have any tips for navigating the switch without getting either mastitis or PND would love to hear them :(

Pascha · 23/03/2013 17:34

Get them Lora, its not like Dexter won't grow into them and shopping for baby is always fun. Have you seen anything good?

Meringue you can avoid mastitis by dropping one feed at a time over a couple of weeks. PND I have no answer for, unfortunately Sad except to say you have done exceptionally well and better than most. You can't tell the difference at 18 between ff, bf or mixed fed so do what's right for your baby and you. If baby is happy then it must be right mustn't it?

CreepyCrawly · 23/03/2013 17:41

Get them Lora get themmmm!!

Any ideas why these stupid nappies keep leaking up Nancy's back?! It's not poo thankfully, just wee and nearly all the time! The fit nicely, but age keeps getting wet up her sides and back. The nappy isn't even full when it happens! I'm getting a bit fed up with the constant changes of clothes, which then means more stupid washing!!

lollipoppi · 23/03/2013 17:53

Meringue, you have done great!! You just need to do whatever is best for you and for baby. I was 100% determined to bf DD, but after nights and days of crying (both me and dd) struggling to latch (thrush and stoopid flat nips!) leading to unhappy mummy and unhappy baby I switched to formula ...... Happy mummy and happy baby
You have done great Smile

What nappies are you using? DD is in huggies newborn size 2 and her clothes stay dry even if her nappy is bulging!

On the DP front, he is fairly well trained normally, he helps out loads and its not like its our first baby!
But this was the first time he was left with DD during her "cranky time" Smile

Pascha · 23/03/2013 17:58

We had the nappy issue at night so we tried a few different brands and eventually went up a size at night. He's currently in Sainsburys eco in the day and Nature Baby in the night.

CreepyCrawly · 23/03/2013 17:59

We're using Tesco size 3 ones. Sizes 1 & 2 were brilliant, no trouble with them. We've only just moved up to size 3 because the size 2 were getting real tight and leaving marks on her legs. Think we'll try a different brand

AppleCrumples · 23/03/2013 18:06

Creepy we have a similar problem and i did wonder if it was the nappies (size 3"pampers) with us it is whenever she poos and drives me mad as my washing is already out of control!

birdies · 23/03/2013 18:47

creepy are you using the biggest possible nappy? You need to have baby's weight in the bottom of the range for nappy size. And make sure the tabs hug the legs a bit and that the frills around legs are on the outside. And like a bra strap, do it up so can only fit two finger widths in the tummy band. If that doesn't work then I'm stumped!

CreepyCrawly · 23/03/2013 18:50

Yep doing all that birdies. I told DH off for not putting the frills on the outside. I thought it was strange that they leak from the top?

LetThereBeCupcakes · 23/03/2013 18:57

We've used a few brands of nappies and none have leaked unless DS has done a massive poor. I think going up a size is your best bet. On a similar note, do people change nappies in the night? I've been changing DS at the 3am feed as his happy is usually quite full, but it wakes him right up and it can take him an hour to settle again. What do others do?

DH has gone out with his friend for the day. They were going to come back here and bring a take away, but DH's friend sent me a text at 3 to say they'd decided to eat out. I'm seriously hacked off - been looking forward to a night off from cooking and a bit of adult company. DH should at least have called me himself.

I pulled all of DH's clothes out of the wardrobe today to sort but have lost interest in the idea. They're all heaped on the bed and the dog has gone to sleep on top of them...

Louise85 · 23/03/2013 19:01

Creepy - I always found that when it leaked at the top for dd (from what I can remember), we had to move up a size...also could try changing brands - heard somewhere that pampers was better for boys and huggies for girls or visa versa - sorry not much help.

Meringue You've done great - please don't feel guilty, coz it sounds like you've honestly tried your best and at the end of the day, a happy mummy will (usually) result in happy baby. I'm so glad I moved to formula after also many weeks of pain and tears. LO is probably drinking too much on your engorged breasts if he's being sick. My ds did the same. I expressed at every feed and slowely decreased amount expressed so that I didn't get too engorged - it took me about a week, but that was when ds was 6 weeks. Good luck!!

Hope you've all had a good day - we've done nothing Blush - dh made beer in the kitchen and it stank - at least he cleaned up after himself. Both kids have been in bed for half an hour already - so lovely evening to ourselves, but dreading the early morning wake up. How was everyone's LO after jabs? Ds had his yest and has slept nearly all day - wonder if he'll be up all night Hmm...

Lora1982 · 23/03/2013 19:21

Ive tried a few nappies and come back to aldi size 3.

On the shopping front i bought a tummy time thing similar to the blow up one someone linked the other day. It cost £18 but i had a voucher for ten which is good else i wouldnt of bought it at that price! With the clothes im rubbish i keep putting stuff in and taking it out ive been at this for about three hours now. I was just as rubbish in h&m wednesday im a crap decision maker!! There is a cute hat and mittens set on tesco for the grand total of £1 with no delivery if you pick it up in store so they are a definate :-D

AppleCrumples · 23/03/2013 19:52

Argghh! Ds2 decided his easter bonnet needed glitter and somehow has got it everywhere have just discovered its all over change mat. Realised too late and now have a very sparkly baby Shock :)

birdies · 23/03/2013 19:53

cupcakes no need to change nappy at night unless there's a poo.

creepy it's a mystery! We use pampers size 3 and no leaks so far..... Could she fit in a 4 or too little?

lora it was me who has the roller thing, I love it.

louise I've done nothing today either! Well, apart from feeding babies, nappy changing etc etc. Every day is the same!!

eagleray · 23/03/2013 20:06

I've not got round to experimenting much with different nappy brands. Should do really though as recently DD has had a couple of major poo leaks up the front of her nappy! One even managed to reach her shoulders Confused

Sorry you've had such a difficult time with BF Meringue I am close to throwing in the towel myself now as tried so hard to cut down on the FF which was inflicted on us in the early days but I just don't think my supply is up to it. And now I'm getting a strange prickly feeling in my boobs which, given my recent track record for illness, has got to be something horrible... And poor miniature DD isn't really thriving either.

I'm going to get some more advice this week re BF and then seriously reconsider whether to continue. DP not very supportive as likes doing the FF and thinks I'm a BF zealot (his actual words were worse than that though).

Lora - defo get the clothes if you want. I've got things in all sizes (up to 18m) that I've bought off ebay over time. If I like it, I buy it, and getting a parcel in the post has cheered me up many a time when everything else is going wrong.

I had a moment of inspiration today and bought a swing! It takes up most of the living room, but I feel it's what's been missing from our lives (DD fell asleep in it straight away)

Meringue33 · 23/03/2013 20:31

Thank you all, you are lovely
Feeling a little better now it has been an emotionally draining day

Tugstonia · 23/03/2013 21:32

On the nappy front I've found Tesco own brand to be the best so far - no leakages as yet! And DD can do some spectacular poos.

Meringue hope you're ok, I agree with everyone else and think you've done brilliantly and have nothing to feel guilty about. Do whatever will make you happy :)

For some insane reason I went to Tesco today thinking it'll be quiet because of the snow... How wrong I was! It was utter HELL, worse than at Christmas. I bought myself cheesecake and ice cream as a reward so my diet hasn't quite started yet.

On a plus note I managed to get DD to sleep at 8pm after only 45 minutes of rocking and singing. Last night it took 2.5 hours for her to finally nod off! Hopefully she'll stay asleep for a while...

AppleCrumples · 23/03/2013 21:40

Tugs my dh works for tesco and they are always really busy when it snows...as if they will all get snowed in and run out of food Confused

Meringue glad your feeling better

BuntyCollocks · 23/03/2013 22:06

meringue are you sure you want to stop feeding? You sound really sad about it :( as long as a baby gets fed, I couldn't give a tuppence how its accomplished, but I hate to think of someone who is sad because they feel there is no other option than to give up on something they want to do.

I don't even change a poo nappy at night unless she is already fully awake. It was the best advice my midwife gave me. Unless she has a sore bum, I'd leave it. It hasn't done her any harm anyway!

BuntyCollocks · 23/03/2013 22:07

Also, do I just have a teeny baby? Dd still comfortably in size 1 huggies.

happyhow · 23/03/2013 22:23

We're on size 2 pampers. We were using Huggies because they were on offer in Asda but they've stopped selling them now. I haven't tried own brand ones although I wasn't too impressed with sainsburys ones when I did. We're having a few leaks at the mo - 2 pooey ones today! Didn't realise you were supposed to have them in the smallest weight for the size. Will get size 3 when these ones run out. Anyone tried Asda's own ones? I tend to shop there most.

Bunty, you must have a dinky little baby! I thought B was relatively small at 10 weeks and 11lbs 12oz so your wee one must be tiny!

I'm waiting for B to wake up. He was crying at 8pm, most likely for food, but I was dishing up our dinner so we left him to cry while we ate it and he fell asleep! He's opened his eyes a couple of times then shut them again. I suspect he'll wake when I move his basket through to the bedroom again though which is fine.

In terms of his nighttime feeding routine, he generally feeds between 9.30-10.30 and sleeps til 3.30/4 or so. I'm usually up for about an hour with him feeding, winding and making sure he's asleep and then we'll get til around 6ish when he thinks it's playtime Smile but he doesn't want fed til at least 7 so hubby entertains him as long as he can before needing to get ready for work while I come to! He'll go to sleep on me after that for a little while but he wakes up if I try to move him to his basket.

Pascha · 23/03/2013 22:24

Still in size 1? Dan has just graduated to size 3, don't know what he weighs but the size 2s don't quite come up high enough anymore. He is a long legged specimen though.

I've been to Sainsburys today and rewarded myself with a creme egg and a packet of double choc chip cookies so no diet here either.

Dan fell asleep on my shoulder after his bedtime feed and puke at 7.30, so far, touch wood, he's still sleeping, albeit on DH's lap. He keeps making little mouthy movements though so I suspect he might wake for a feed soonish. CBA to go to bed yet but I'm sure he will wake when we do go up.

eagleray · 23/03/2013 22:25

How big is your DD Bunty? Mine is in size 3 Pampers, but is only just over 10lb and they do swamp her a bit.

Good advice re the nappy changing - managed to wake her up the other night changing her nappy 'just in case'. Never again.
