Fry some onion til it's cooked and possibly crisps butndoesn't burn, add some rice, fry without burning, add water to cook. A glass of water to half a glass of rice, cover and wait til the water has gone. Olive oil not butter for the frying. Have to be v careful not to let anything burn though as the whole thing will be ruined.

Another idea: chicken and ginger. Marinade chicken in chopped stem ginger and add some syrup (from the ginger jar) and a splash of white wine and seasoning.

Same sort of thing with honey and lemon or lime.

Or garlic, white wine and chopped chilli.

Or you could do home made chicken kievs. The good food site has a couple of nice recipes.

I'm bloody starving now I'm thinking of all this yummy food! And there is bugger all in the cupboards but the garage owners and the insurance cunts cupboards must be fit to burst.

Grin

DP be home soon. He can get me some foods!

BigPigLittlePig · 22/02/2013 14:30

All I've eaten today is porridge and chocolate brownies (not together).

Having a real downer of a day today, so tired and I think I must have got out of bed on the wrong side - I am overwhelmed with love for LO but I would love if she would settle with someone else so I could have some me time during daylight hours. Feeling very 'meh' and teary, not me at all. Still, only 7 hours until bedtime and hopefully tomorrow will be better.

We had tartiflette last week, one of my faves.

TheDetective · 22/02/2013 14:31

They sound less healthy. Are they healthy? ARE THEY? Tell me they are!!!!

TheDetective · 22/02/2013 14:32

I have realised I spend most of my day doing singing and action rhymes with O. It is his favourite form of entertainment. Hmm

Better brush up on my repertoire!

Catbag · 22/02/2013 14:35

Tried to start reading 'State Accountability under International Law: Holding states accountable for a breach of jus cogens norms'. Got 20 pages in, sobbed about being stupid, put babies on the feeding cushion, the Matrix on the tv and am now slobbed on the sofa, awaiting cheesy pasta with peri peri sauce courtesy of DH. Stupid Mummy :(

PetiteRaleuse · 22/02/2013 14:44

I don't consider them unhealthy. A nutritionist might disagree.

And couscous and quinoa are very worthy alternatives to rice

TheDetective · 22/02/2013 14:52

I've never liked couscous, it is the texture. Never tried quinoa. Is it expensive in comparison to rice?

Cat Do you want me to give you a friendly slap?! Shut it, the only stupid mummy is the one thinking she is stupid! And that is not you, OKAY?!

I couldn't even think about doing what you are. It is enough that I remember to put a bra on when I go out.

PetiteRaleuse · 22/02/2013 15:00

I'm not keen on couscous either. Quinoa no idea how much it costs over there. It's got a kind of nutty taste to it. If you don't like the texture of couscous I guess you wouldn't like it though.

Cat 20 pages of that on a Friday afternoon is more than enough.

Kyzordz · 22/02/2013 15:18

detective e doesn't like me eating either. He wakes up if he's asleep and if I eat he whinges and cries. I'd love a warm meal in peace!

I think next time I encounter a situation with a friend who won't give him back thetiger and passme I'll just take him back, or try to as you suggested. He is a good baby but Is still only a baby despite his size so does cry sometimes and just want me! He's being quite clingy today too actually.

Foody Friday, I like it. I'm having pizza tonight, very unhealthy but never mind!

PetiteRaleuse · 22/02/2013 15:20

What time was Eliza's appointment? It was today right?

TheDetective · 22/02/2013 15:22

Kyzord we just leave him whinging now and eat quickly. I got sick of cold food and not eating as a family. The only time I pick him up is if he is tired or hungry because he clearly needs me then. General pick me up and give me all your attention just gets ignored in favour of heartburn/indigestion!.

misslaughalot · 22/02/2013 15:50

Oooh I like foody Friday!

Glenda if you're off to Cornwall then I suggest you get yourself to Callestick Farm if you're nearby, they do lovely fresh lunches and their ice cream is to die for! My parents live in Cornwall and its a rare trip to see them that doesn't involve a lunch there!

misslaughalot · 22/02/2013 15:55

Have you guys seen this interesting article on the BBC news website today?

Contradictionincarnate · 22/02/2013 16:05

foody Friday luckily when my dad finally got here we went to art cafe a small walk away I had brushetta á pomodoro but my brain isn't working so I just said bruschetta and tomatoes got a hotchoclate and home made patchwork cat cushion as present for my friend.
det what about veggie spag bol with your mince I make a delish one with lots of veg like a ratatouille one...courgettes and aubergines which I bake and fry fake mince first with onions and mushrooms and sometimes wine though when I do that more goes in me than the pan

I am thinking of Eliza too hope all is well!

Pikz · 22/02/2013 16:07

Miss laugh my Finnish friend swears by it...

Contradictionincarnate · 22/02/2013 16:10

miss how interesting there was I thinking maybe we should skip the walk today when infact I should just plonk her outside!! Smile

fruitpastilles · 22/02/2013 16:11

All this food talk is making me soooo hungry! I didn't get to have any lunch today, and I'm hank!!
I bought S a nursery rhymes DVD that come today, it looks like the cheapest DVD ever made, it's a mixture of puppets, what looks like a pop up book and real people, she seemed to like it though!
Does anyone know of any good ones? I was hoping that one would have actions, because I don't know any songs with actions to sing with her!

Contradictionincarnate · 22/02/2013 16:17

I second that fruit I don't know any actions either! det could you make a fbook video? kinda like an exercise one but rhyme instruction... perhaps old McDonald had a dog too so we can see your woof! Wink

PetiteRaleuse · 22/02/2013 16:20

You could go on youtube and make your fortune doing videos.

Passmethecrisps · 22/02/2013 16:32

I do a nice line in incy wincy spider!

I got a book from my HV full of rhymes and actions to do.

Appointment with dietician was interesting. She doesn't see a need to rush to weaning but also had some interesting chat about 'early' weaning. She says the worldwide advice is a combination of trying to encourage better health practices across the world and also to try to get people to wait until 4 months at least. She said when the guidelines said 4 months people did it at 3 months and so on. Apparently there was a big furore in the dietician community because there is no evidence that waiting until 6 month makes any difference re allergies. She said it was more important to understand clear signs of a baby being actually ready and work from that. Signs such as a weakened tongue thrust reflex - p showed her awesomely strong tongue thrust by pinging her dummy out of her mouth just as we were mentioning it.

So, in short careful weaning when the baby is physically ready is key for reflux. She did say that reflux babies can be harder to wean due to some natural anxieties about putting things in their mouths. They like to be able to discern exactly what it is. Apparently they are not keen on various things mixed together because they can't work out what it is.

She also wants us to move from IG to carobel. I must admit to being a bit reluctant as I was feeling ok about IG. She feels that while p is not strictly constipated her daily play doh poo while help by me is not ok.

Anyone got any advice about carobel? Might go off and start a thread about it.

BigPigLittlePig · 22/02/2013 16:35

miss given that she won't nap inside in the warmth, I can't see she'll nap outside. But at least you can't hear the screams!?

My gran was saying that when her 2 children were babies they fed them first thing then stuck them outside in the pram til lunch. This was repeated in the afternoon whilst the mums had tea dates!. She was amazed to see how much time I spend holding LO and quite sad for the missed opportunities with her babies (now in their 50s)

Contradictionincarnate · 22/02/2013 16:40

passme looks like the appointment went well- a silver lining.
just when I think I have made up my mind about weaning I see something else that changes my mind originally I was thinking 4 months then 6 months then 4 then 6 months again!

Contradictionincarnate · 22/02/2013 16:43

just re read my post so wean at 5 months then ha ha!!

PetiteRaleuse · 22/02/2013 16:56

I didn't do my carrot puree. Damn. Definitely tomorrow.
