CP how is this week going?

BG lol at your DD2

scones how is your DD1 at the moment? Does she handle pre school better?

StoneBaby · 01/05/2013 10:12

We're fine here, looking forward to be finishing our building work with the next month and start cleaning the builders mess Smile

Which nappy do you use at night time? DS wears Pampers baby dry and they leak most night. He sleeps on his side and that's where he gets soaked!

ClimbingPenguin · 01/05/2013 10:32

I'm at home as DS threw up in the night and it's DH's London day.

We have similar BG

Hoping to get some shopping and bits done later if DS seems alright. Got my weekend away Friday morning and tutoring tomorrow night so was starting to wonder when I would have time to get ready.

StoneBaby · 01/05/2013 12:18

CP oh no. Fx it's a bug and it'll stop soon

ClimbingPenguin · 01/05/2013 14:09

well one good thing is I just got a nap with DS. tbh I was feeling a bit ropey anyway and lack of sleep was catching up with me so it's quite nice. He won't be back in nursery this week as per the 48 hour rule but at least it is in his nappy now . Obviously a bit paranoid about dehydration after last time but I know what to do and look out for.

BabyGiraffes · 01/05/2013 14:43

CP how are you juggling childcare? It's not exactly easy to take time off a few days after starting work... Sounds like a fab employer to let you stay home today.

ClimbingPenguin · 01/05/2013 14:58

It was something I was very clear about when negotiating the job offer so it wasn't a surprise to them. Basically if he is ill on the day DH goes to London I stay at home, otherwise DH has him. He has loads more leave than me plus can move his hours around.

I also don't have to do any travel for 6 months, but I am happy to some overnighters as I could do with going to the Isle of man on day trips. At some point I need to go to Sweden for a 5 or so days.

I seem to have loads of leave booked for the next 6 weeks which I feel a bit bad about, but just worked out all my trips etc. are clustered into May. My poor tutees are having to rearrange practically every Saturday, especially as when DH was away I had to rearrange as well.

BabyGiraffes · 01/05/2013 15:12

CP wow, you really made the right choice not to work for a university. There is ZERO flexibility even with the most understanding boss. Wish I worked in an area like that where I can choose to go into industry... Sad < goes back to searching for research jobs>

InmaculadaConcepcion · 01/05/2013 19:42

Get well soon CP's DS!

SB similar problem with DS being a side-sleeper. After various experiments, what works best for us is a Pampers Active Fit, then a Little Lamb cloth nappy and wrap over the top of that. Since we started this belt and braces technique, we haven't had any nocturnal leaks, FX (and it's been several weeks now...)

more sick in the night :(

StoneBaby · 02/05/2013 12:55

CP oh no. I hope you managed to get ready for work

BabyGiraffes · 03/05/2013 18:30

We had our trip to the park cut short a bit by dd2 having a near panic attack at the sight of a small, old, docile dog on a lead that happened to cross her path. She scooted away like fury, howling (probably scaring the dog) and when I caught up with her by cutting across the grass she was shaking with her heart beating really fast, saying the dog was going to eat her. This seems quite new to her that she is afraid of dogs and I guess her sister's absolute terror hasn't helped. Curiously, dd1's desire to ride her new bike was stronger than her fear of dogs, and she will now keep a very respectful distance from dogs but no longer squeal and try to climb on my lap, bike and all.
I decided to cut our visit short though when a doberman off is lead kept following us to see what the smell like, leading dd2 to have hysterics again. Must admit even I was a little uneasy with a dog the size of a pony following us with no sight of the owner. I think it is totally irresponsible to let dogs run freely while there are still small children in the park (this was at 5, the park would be pretty empty by 6).
Can you tell I'm not a dog lover?

StoneBaby · 03/05/2013 18:57

BG DS had a dog terror phase a few months ago, he was convinced they were going to 'eat his trousers'. He's now getting better.

Have a good children-free weekend CP

InmaculadaConcepcion · 03/05/2013 19:55

Yes, phobias are definitely catching BG! My DD is also pretty fearful of dogs, usually asking to be carried, or retreating behind the safety of DS' buggy if one approaches (including on a lead)...I was too as a child - until we got a dog of our own. I was fine with them after that.

Enjoy Scotland CP!

Two poorly DC here - DD is in the throes of a cold, had very little appetite at supper (but had eaten some tea at nursery) and requested an early bath and bed - she was asleep before 07.00. DS has some sort of rash and a temp of 39.4 - but is still feeding and relatively cheerful at this stage (less interested in solid food, though). FX it's nothing too serious....

IC Oh dear, hope it is nothing nasty.

I feel old tonight. Couldn't find my glasses. Still haven't, because I need glasses to locate them Grin Blush. Too embarrassed to put contact lenses in just to find my glasses...

StoneBaby · 03/05/2013 21:08

BG hugs. I will never be able to lose my glasses as they have to be on my nose at all times! (And I can't wear contacts anymore due to a damaged cornea)

BabyGiraffes · 03/05/2013 21:20

SB I like to not wear glasses in the house so I can't see dust and cobwebs... There are positives to being short sighted Grin

StoneBaby · 03/05/2013 21:25

I like your thinking but I would not be able to see the coffee table (and would walk in it and get even more bruises) or keep an eagle eye on DS

BabyGiraffes · 03/05/2013 21:33

Guess that explains the bruises on my legs from the blanket box behind our bed then Wink. It's been there for at least 7 years but I still walk into it.
Was thinking today that I miss the days when I could let dd2 potter around the house unsupervised and keep track of her by listening to her chatter. She's now a lot more imaginative and sneaky Sad so I have to be on my toes all the time trying to stay ahead of her latest trick/experiment/stunt... Grin

BabyGiraffes · 04/05/2013 00:12

.... and then you know it's a bad idea to do some work this late in the day when you read DH as darling husband and not Department of Health, and wonder why the document makes no sense Hmm. Good night all.

Bearcrumble · 04/05/2013 11:44

CP and IC - hope children are feeling better.

Sending all my love to Survival and her boys.

I currently have no kids to look after. DS out with DH and baby napping alone (over an hour!).

I look forward to these times as they are so rare but always end up mindlessly internetting even though I plan to do something truly relaxing. It's weird. I want more time for me but when I get it I don't know what to do with it. I feel a bit of emptiness really - it could well be to do with sleep deprivation totally f-ing up my concentration span but I don't know. I feel like my old interests aren't that interesting any more. I don't really get that excited by anything except books and my standards are really high - I have to LOVE a book to really want to keep reading it.

There's also the 'what do I do when they are less dependant on me?' that bugs away at the corner of my mind. I don't have a career to go back to.

I went to a homeschooling group last Wednesday pm. It was really nice. Except that I earwigged a conversation between at least four vaccine denying mothers....

There is such a difference between having one child and having two. You literally don't have a minute when number two comes along. (sorry to moan when I know there are those here who long for DC2 - it is wonderful as well).

Bearcrumble · 04/05/2013 11:46

I have to get DH to find my glasses for me when I put them down. I did actually wear my contacts the other day. When I looked in the mirror I realised I need to start wearing suncream. My specs have left me looking like a panda.

BabyGiraffes · 04/05/2013 12:02

BC I now have dh and both dd on the case and my glasses have totally vanished! I wore them to hoover the house yesterday (such a rare occurance that I remember! Blush There is something to be said for being shortsighted - I can't see dust...). I didn't wear them when I went to the park. So I must have put them down somewhere in the house.
Now, if you were glasses, where would you hide??

BabyGiraffes · 04/05/2013 12:35

Found my glasses! Went to get the charger for my phone and the glasses were tangled up in the cord. I think it's time for an eye test if I managed to roll up the cord and stuff it into my laptop bag without realising my glasses were part of the mix! Blush
