The answer to the sleeping though question was a chorus of "no"s but there were a few resounding yesses and a lot more keeping quiet because the rest of us would be well jel.

I hate to ask but what is the finger test?

I can't remember the last time P shat at night probably because I don't have my finger up her arse

capedcrusader25 · 18/01/2013 22:39

O doesn't tend too poo in the night now. However the other morning she did and when lifting her vest up behind her back I got a hand coated in crap. Feckin horrible. We went up a nappy size that day!! I don't need to even sniff her bum to know when she's pooed, the smell could be used in chemical warfare!!
I went to Derby Uni Horsey and worked there for a while :)

Passmethecrisps · 18/01/2013 22:40

Good luck with te party daisy.

Is it true that babies learn to stop weeing at night?

Yes they learn to stop weeing at night but not for a very long time yet

The finger test is open the pjs, and slip a finger into the nappy, not up their arse. It helps when you're not sure if it was a poo or a fart. Avoided many a night time change by using the finger test.

My mum and MIL both do it so I can't be that much of a freak. Can I?

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 22:44

I think we should consider Dry at night a long term goal (ie another good two years) and no poo at night a short to medium term goal Grin

kirrinIsland · 18/01/2013 22:50

I've never been brave enough to do the finger test petite - after witnessing a friend do it to check it was just wind. It wasn't.

CandyPop · 18/01/2013 22:53

Hmm finger test, might have to send dh to do that one ! She stopped pooing during the night after 4 weeks but cause of my antibiotics it made her have runny poo so she started to poo during night too after a feed, hoping she's settling back to no poos soon.

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 22:55

Oh my word! The finger test... PR you made DP snort and nearly wake the sleeping baby Grin.

What do you mean how do you do the sniff test Candy?! You just sniff in the general nappy area or general baby area sometimes Grin. Actually, I can't remember if the sniff test was reliable on BF baby... His poo smells like milk, nothing awful. But smells different to a wet nappy!

I noticed he wee's less at night btw - we do a nappy change with the middle of the night feed because he has usually gone 6 hours or so between changes, and could be 10 hours til the next feed. And by 10 hours, you can guarantee he has pissed through the damn thing Grin. Which means a full change. And I defo CBA with that. I do the change at the start of the feed. Now he has stopped pooing before during AND after feeds. Thank fuck. Hmm

We are also going through far less nappies now. Phew. A pack of 44 easily lasts a week. Even if I can be over zealous in changing him during the day. He likes changes. He smiles and coos and wriggles his legs about. Makes a change from the early screamer days!!! I don't like leaks!

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 22:56

We had the first night poo in ages last night. DP did the change. There was poo smears all over his morning nappy. Hmm

ChunkyChicken · 18/01/2013 23:00

DS poos infrequently at night now, usually when or just after a feed. I have a little LED torch - given as a Christmas present, which mad me a bit Hmm - that I use to check the nappy situation, if the smell test is not definitive.

Not sure what we're doing now for a holiday, as we've worked out we can actually afford one now. Tempted to go to visit my parents at their house in Brittany, when they out in the summer, but I've go barely any French and am a bit nervous about taking a 7mo & a 3yo. But it would be far cheaper than most holidays...

MissMummy1 · 18/01/2013 23:06

pass the snow hit us half an hour ago. It is moving across Scotland from the east, will be with you soon!!

I am majorly fucked off. My eBay bargain swing isnt here. Expected it on Wednesday. Seller is being lovely about it and claiming courier has lost it. She says they are phoning her tomorrow and will refund me if they cant find it. THIS IS NOT THE POINT!! I wanted that swing, I got it v cheap and I doubt I'll get it at that price again. I really dont think it's the woman's fault. Arghh! Bastard couriers Angry

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 23:08

Sounds lovely Dixie don't worry about taking the children they'll enjoy it. And in summer in Brittany, you won't necessarily need more than phrasebook French.

Seriously the finger test, will fuck up a decent manicure, but since DD1 was born I've only been got a handful of times. See what I did there? A handful of times? For a finger test. Oh nevermind. It's a (usually) convenient way of making sure you don't need to change a nappy.

Midnight here. Children sleeping, but I decided to wait up for my DH who said he'd be home by half midnight. Animals all snuggled up to me, would love to have a nap on the sofa but DD1 has covered the damn thing in lego, so rather than make a noise tidying it away I am doing the perch one cheek on the sofa move. And watchong Alan Carr. He's much better interviewing than stand up.

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 23:08

Ooh Denzel is on the other channel. Yum.

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 23:09

I meant Chunky not Dixie

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 23:14

My arse feels like it has had a phallic shaped object inserted up it.

Not that I'd know how that feels. I imagine it would feel like this anyway...!

Fed up dot com.

ChunkyChicken · 18/01/2013 23:16

Thanks PR will have to organise passports sooner rather than later though if we decide to go.

Oh, and, anyone that said about the songs on YouTube - PR and blonder maybe??! What do I search for? DD loves the work's iPad so has some apps & a couple of Toy Story shorts on here, but she would probably enjoy a sing along too Grin

ChunkyChicken · 18/01/2013 23:17

Oops, think I've exceeded my quota of posts

Gotta go, bed calling. Night all, hope everyone gets 5hrs minimum...

Passmethecrisps · 18/01/2013 23:20

You were right MM! Bring on the snow!

Passmethecrisps · 18/01/2013 23:21

Who is the early adolescent jumping around on Graham Norton?

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 23:21

The Duck Song for your amusement Chunky , and the duck songs two and three when you.re done with that. The only songs I laugh at as much as DD1.

But if purely for kids' songs Super Simple Learning have loads which are really well done.

If ou search Gigglebellies you'll get some nice versions of some favourite children's songs too.

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 23:22

Almost half midnight and DH not home. Would go to bed but would need to transfer LO who has been sleeping like a, erm, baby for quite a while now, and DD1 is in our bed, so would prefer to wake her once, when we are both home, than twice. Iyswim.

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 23:26

Look for 'Do you like waffles'.

Kept DS amused for 2 minutes.

TheDetective · 18/01/2013 23:30

Funny cat videos keep little and big ones amused too!

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2013 23:36

Ooh I love the funny cat videos.

Just realised Father Ted is going to be on in a mo. Forgive me, I only got UK TV installed a few months ago after 14 years without. I get excited over Come Dine With Me repeats and things like Father Ted.

DH still not back. I'd worry because of the snow but I think he is just having too good a time Grin
