As a few of us have popped early I thought I'd start us a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I could kiss my health visitor! She really helped me with breastfeeding yesterday and every feed since has been absolutely pain free! I'm so happy, I'm not dreading her next feed anymore.

She also back up to her birth weight so all my worries about her sleeping too much/not feeding enough are gone.

I'm on cloud 9 today!

Lora1982 · 01/02/2013 12:25

Aww well done creepy good news! I have to book the dr about the blockedness of my boob he refuses to go on it and theres a massive hard lumpy bit. Went to a breast feeding group today and got embaressed with the goodbye song :-D im no singer

lollipoppi · 01/02/2013 13:45

Aw that's great news creepy!

Dd was weighed today and she is putting on weight which doesn't surprise me at all as she is a hungry little thing.

Can anybody else that is formula feeding tell me how many oz their little ones are having over 24 hours????

Hormonalhell · 01/02/2013 14:25

Yes Lolli Charlie is taking 3oz feeds and is approximately having 21oz a day, he was 6lb 6oz at last weigh in but fully expect him to be near on 7 1/2 next time he guzzles that much !!Grin

MamaMary · 01/02/2013 15:20

Hello all, well it sounds like we're all experiencing a lot of the same things: constant feeding and struggling to settle LOs etc.

congratulations Tugs Nice name.

Leah had one or two really unsettled days this week - think maybe a growth spurt? as she fed a lot more. However napping now again and settling ok at night (helped by DH putting his finger in her mouth when necessary - she won't take a dummy).

Birdies my only suggestion would be a vibrating bouncy seat, apologies if I've mentioned it before. Mind you, the vibration doesn't seem to be having much effect on Leah and perhaps it's better when they get older, can't really remember at which stage we found it so useful with DD1.

Berniebennett · 01/02/2013 15:43

Hey Loli, we are formula feeding currently 26oz but I do honestly have a big chunk on my hands. He is 3 weeks old and weighed 8 11lb then dropped to 8 5lb but is now up to 9 8lb! We have just steadily staggered the increases each week and the HV seems very happy!

lollipoppi · 01/02/2013 17:08

Thanks, DD is 9 days old and only having little but often, but once i started writing down her feeds she is having over 20oz in 24 hrs, yesterday it was 25oz seems a lot of milk for someone so small!!
She was 7lb 11oz at birth, then dropped to 7lb 8oz, weighed again today and she is 7lb 15oz
I spoke with the midwife about her intake and she wasn't concerned, she just said if it was too much then I would be cleaning up a lot of sick Smile x

octanegirl · 01/02/2013 17:32

Does anyone else feel like they are spending their entire lives breastfeeding...?
In a 12 hr period it's about 5 hrs! That's a lot of bored sofa sitting.....

ChutesTooNarrow · 01/02/2013 18:06

Yep! But I love sitting on my arse Grin Today I have successfully used the amount of breast feeding on the sofa time to justify buying an iPad mini which I am currently stroking lovingly whilst Rory snores on my shoulder.

GraceSpeaker · 01/02/2013 21:41

Hello everyone. I've only just found this board and finished reading all the previous posts!

Lizzie (she's Elizabeth really) was born on the 18th. Induction (13 days post EDD) with eventual forceps delivery. Pretty medicalised birth, but the midwives were all lovely and Lizzie was born very healthy and 8lb 6oz. I lost quite a bit of blood and had to have an episiotomy. The medication played hell with my digestion for the first week after she was born (evil iron tablets). Still have bad constipation, but started lactulose yesterday and that seems to be helping.

Lizzie's been sleeping for 2-3 hour blocks in the night, which has been great. The last couple of nights have been a bit less predictable. She's hardly slept today and been unusually grizzly. Health visitor reckoned she was going through a growth spurt. She thinks she's hungry pretty much all the time, but we're combination feeding, so at least DH can help out.

Has anyone been using any kind of mattress support or nest? My MiL is posting one down and I'm willing to give it a try, as Lizzie seems to sleep better on a cushioned surface in the day. Has anyone's LO hated the sleeping bags? We tried her in it one night and were woken every half hour - not sure if it was the sleeping bag or something else!

Hormonalhell · 02/02/2013 09:25

Bernie n Lolli wow, that is much more than Charlie!! He's a little smaller tho so expect he'll be on that much when he gets to your LO's sizes Smile

Bernie my LO is 3 weeks today, when was yours born? Mine was 12th January.

Lolli, yes Charlie just seems to 'get rid' when he's guzzled too much Grin

Hormonalhell · 02/02/2013 09:27

Grace, Charlie seems to like his sleeping bag although I'm putting his blanket on too as its soooo cold at night. His little hands are always freezing tho!! DD (13) complains that it looks like he's wearing a dress Grin

tinkletinklestar · 02/02/2013 12:26

Is anyone else really struggling??

Lora1982 · 02/02/2013 13:38

I am tinkle. Got to book the dr for my boob on monday which looks like it could go bad. He cries every hour today for food my so called dp cant even do 3 days at work... Hes currently round his mums cos he took half day holiday so he can nap an no doubt have a drink tonight... Wheres my holiday?!? Im annoyed w him so much

Birdies · 02/02/2013 14:23

Had a little breakthrough yesterday. Baby slept in a swing we've bought her, swaddled and with a dummy and white noise (and a dark room). I hardly knew what to do with myself!

Anyways, would highly recommend one of these swaddles - not cheap but keeps arms warm and is flexible for when you don't want to swaddle them. My sister bought one for me and I'm going to buy a spare one too.

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Halo+fleece&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3AHalo+fleece

Ps tinkle I am at night - saw every hour on the clock last night and knackered. Getting less sleep per night as time goes on rather than more.

Birdies · 02/02/2013 14:24

hormonal that swaddle might work for your baby too as means no need for the extra blanket

Birdies · 02/02/2013 14:25

Ps congrats and welcome grace!

tinkletinklestar · 02/02/2013 14:37

God its awful.

Dd is just screaming all the time, ive not had more than 3 hours sleep in the last 3 weeks of her being here!

She was becomning colic like so I put her on the cow &gate colic comfort milk with colief in it after a week it wasnt really helping so the health visitor said to just use the milk and go from there did that and she spent last 2 days screaming in agony trying to poo! Then all of last night cried and just refused any milk at all...

This morning decided to try going back to normal milk which she took but threw up within 10 minutes so ive just got aptimil milk and shes just taken a whole bottle and done a mega dirty nappy and burps!

Dh has been sleeping on a blow up mattresses downstairs the last week, I feel very resentful towards him getting so much sleep when I have a baby and a toddler to deal with on zero sleep!!

Mycsection healing seems to of taken a step backwards, I have a lot of internal pain but thinking this is because of the lack of rest that im getting so its hardly surprising!

Lostbobbles · 02/02/2013 21:34

Tinkle, I would take her to the docs and get a referral to rule out reflux, your DD sounds like my DD1 who we went through hell with, turned out she had silent reflux and when put on meds was like having a different baby.

Wish you both well, it's so bloody hard when they scream so much.

tinkletinklestar · 02/02/2013 22:44

What is silent reflux lost?

tinkletinklestar · 03/02/2013 04:24

Lost... Thank you so much! I think ive found the answer to what's wrong.

Will be taking her to see a dr on monday morning hopefully will get one that listens (whatever happened to the days of having the same family dr??? )

Lostbobbles · 03/02/2013 07:27

Tinkle, hope you got lots info from web. I know what you mean about Dr's we had to go several times with DD1 as she was such a chunk they wouldn't believe there was anything wrong. Got lucky in the end and saw a fab dr.

Hope you get one that listens, Just don't leave until they agree to refer to paed and ask if they will give infant gaviscon in interim (it helped DD1 initially)

Good luck x

SpringFlowers · 03/02/2013 08:55

Tinkle that sounds really tough, I hope you are ok in yourself. It's not much consolation but it will pass and won't be like this forever. We found that bouncing on the birthing ball was very soothing for dd3 when she was crying for reasons we didn't understand. Also being held in the 'tiger in the tree' position seemed to make a difference sometimes. Have you found anything that helps at all?

Bunny222 · 03/02/2013 09:44

Lollipoppy your story made me cry, hope ur doing ok.

Am so thrilled to be finally posting on this thread after being a week overdue. Benjamin was born on Tues 29th after 22 hrs in active (ie from 4cm dilated, think thats the term??!) he was 9lb 8oz, bigger than I had even imagined, massive feet and lovely big eyes.

Hope ur all doing ok. Am struggling with breast feeding, both the technique and now milk is in the pain of my boobs.

Will write birth story when on computer.

tinkletinklestar · 03/02/2013 11:56

Thank you lost we had an awful time with dd1 and we nearly lost her at 8 week's due to a dr saying I was over reacting. I tend to be a little full on when seeing them now some take it personally but when my babies are poorly I need listening to!

spring im ok' ish. I have dh off work this next week so he will lift some of my strain. Its the lack of sleep & being in pain at the same time im really struggling with. Also I was grtting really cross with dd2 not understanding why she was screaming still after a feed/change/burp/poo.. I think we have answers now so fingers crossed!
