I must say I like the ability to turn it up or down if nipples a bit sore or are ok too but don't know if other pumps do that?

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 03/01/2013 21:59

Its lovely to be home but stressful trying to find ways for dp to be useful without major overexertion Sad

My parents are just up the road

it must be - and frustrating for you both.

seconds are you taking a bf supplement? I do know that bf mum's need more iodine than in pregnancy as well as vit d (thyroid consultant told me) and boots does a good one with both in. dairy and fish have both in too.

also I was told of another supplement the other day by an ante and post natal physio as well as fenugreek but I'll have to look it up in morning as am chained to bed n babe and looking like in for the long haul...

MaMaPo · 03/01/2013 23:09

Clarella - my first public bf was on the tube! I have discovered I have no shame at all and have fed her out loads, in front of friends, in laws etc.

Little C went for more than 3 hours between feeds while we were out at dinner (with the in laws in town we are constantly eating out) and now is into the 2nd breast after 30 mins on the 1st. Hopefully she can go a nice long time until next feed. Fx

Have to share our news....

I'm in absolute heaven,
Thomas came home this afternoon!!
And is doing great, we are all doing great, after a full month of him being in scbu and me feeling empty, I now feel complete!!
He's been so alert and awake all day like he knew something important was happening!
He is feeding well, still tube feeding for part of the feeds.
But he has just had a full tube feed as he was sleeping,
Now he's making lovely little sighing noises by the side of me!!!
Just the most amazing feeling ever!!
:-D

Is the medela swing an open or closed collection system? Confused

HoneyMumandSon · 03/01/2013 23:27

Congratulations alison Grin

MaMaPo · 03/01/2013 23:39

Alison -:) :) :)

SeymoreInOz · 03/01/2013 23:42

Congrats on getting Thomas home Alison so pleased for you! Grin

pidj great that DH is home. I hope things settle down for you soon. I've been thinking of you both.

Those expressing, when do you do it? DS is feeding so much I feel like I never get a chance to express anything. I've got a manual pump at the moment so I think I'll only be able to express when there's a lot there. If bottle feeds are going to be a regular thing I will invest in a medela swing (about $200 here!)

In other news, DS has started smiling! He's been cracking a few smiles over the last week but I've been doubting them because he's only 4 weeks old. He smiled at the paediatrician on Monday and she confirmed it was a proper grin. DH got an unmistakable smile from him as he was leaving for work this morning, it really cheered him up because he's been feeling a bit left out with DS permanently attached to my boob. It makes up for feeding every hour last night...

Hi ladies, just popping over from the other thread as I need a bit of info. When do you call the hospital? I'm timing what I think are contraction (quite painful but bearable) but was given no info as to when to call? Ps..... I bet I've gone jinxed myself now!

emilyeggs · 04/01/2013 00:07

Also, should I have back pain also? It seems to be all at the front

SeymoreInOz · 04/01/2013 00:16

I had quite bad back pain before the contractions started, but it shifted to the front after. There's no harm in calling the labour ward and asking for advice, are the contractions coming at regular intervals yet?

Secondsop · 04/01/2013 00:23

Hi emily, I was told the 5-1-1 rule i.e.: go in when they're 5 minutes apart lasting 1 minute (or 50 seconds) and when it's been like that for an hour. But call the labour ward and check, explaining your precise symptoms to them.

I was an induced birth so a bit different but I went into labour with the gel only and had a latent phase that consisted of period-type pains so perfectly bearable at first but then getting gradually worse. It was all at the front - i didn't have any pain on my back until literally before my waters broke when the pain suddenly radiated outwards.

lastly: GOOD LUCK!!

emilyeggs · 04/01/2013 00:25

Seems regular, I've just started timing on my app so will give it a few more to get a better picture. Are they meant to be crippling? They make me hold my breath and stop moving but I can handle them?

emilyeggs · 04/01/2013 00:30

Thanks oz nod seconds

Secondsop · 04/01/2013 00:43

emily for many hours mine were manageable (or maybe I just told myself to manage them because I was repeatedly told that it was just the induction gel working and that I wasn't having contractions because "nothing's showing on the monitor"). Then they gradually reached a point where I had to breathe through them, and got progressively harder to handle from there. Mine also started out a few minutes apart - I didn't have any of this civilised 15-minutes apart business.

emilyeggs · 04/01/2013 01:04

Tmi alert... Just went to the loo and when I wiped there was some jelly stuff.... Is that plug?

SeymoreInOz · 04/01/2013 01:28

Yes that sounds like the plug. With DC2 I'd been having contractions every 5 minutes for an hour, when I called the labour ward they told me to go in if I felt I needed pain relief, which I did!

emilyeggs · 04/01/2013 01:48

Thanks, fx it doesn't all stop

PurplePidjChickIsNotTheMessiah · 04/01/2013 02:47

Fabulous, Alison, I'm so chuffed for you! Thanks

Good luck, Emily, hope you're a Mummy by now!

R just slept for 4 1/2 hours. In his crib. On his own :o dp and i woke up all cuddled together, lets just say that he's not suffering a certain common side effect of bp meds and R won't necessarily be an only child if we ever have enough energy to act on it :o:o:o:o:o

Pains getting really strong, tens not doing much!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 04/01/2013 03:37

Good luck emily I went into hospital when the contractions were 3 minutes apart, lasting about a minute each. But my labour was 3hrs 10mins total and I was 8cm when I got there, in truth I could have done with pain relief from about an hour before that but we were waiting for babysitters and then driving to the hospital!

Well Ethan slept for 4 hours in his moses basket. Hopefully he'll go back in when he's finished stuffing his face. 4hrs sleep is bliss. (sorry to all those who's babies have not behaved tonight).

FriendofDorothy · 04/01/2013 04:31

How long did people continue using cotton wool and water to clean baby up before switching to wipes. wipes work so much better!

HoneyMumandSon · 04/01/2013 04:38

fod we're still using cotton wool and water at 10 weeks as using wipes too much brins him out in a rash. We can get away with them when we're out and about thugh.

Bellaboo123 · 04/01/2013 04:50

FoD we've been using wipes for a couple of weeks now (dd 5 weeks tomorrow) and her skin is fine with it. Try them and see the reaction?!?

We've just slept from 11.30 to 4.30 wow bliss!
