honey I find I wake in exactly the same position as soon as Ethan starts wiggling. I've never been one for co- sleeping but when he just won't settle it's better than a stressed mummy.

Trying to settle him in the Moses basket now Hmm

Secondsop · 03/01/2013 06:22

honey when I co sleep I do it on my side with my lower arm out at a right angle, with Z next to me with his cheek on my boob. That's the position he puts himself in after feeding and the one we kept waking up in after accidentally falling asleep like that. I figure I can't really roll cos I've got my arm out, and he has his face propped at an angle where he can't bury it into anything that will stop him breathing.

I should stress this isn't any kind of mandated method, it's just what works for us.

SpottyTeacakes · 03/01/2013 06:50

Morning! Alison I'm so pleased for you, you just be so happy!

I have no idea when ds last fed (I'm feeding him now). I'm a bit confused. I know dp gave him a bottle of ebm at one but in sure I saw 3am?! I will have to ask him.

I've got my postnatal check today. Seems a bit pointless as I'm fine. Might ask if I can step on the scales though!

Barbeasty · 03/01/2013 08:23

Fantastic news Alison and Pidj. Hope your homecomings go well.

Seconds that's pretty much how we do it. Last time the midwives at the MLU told me to basically sleep in the recovery position so I couldn't roll over, with an arm around the baby so they don't go anywhere.

It's my first day alone today, but DD is at nursery, so should be fairly relaxed and easy. Tomorrow will be the test, when I have both on my own.

We were discharged from the mw yesterday, and Anthony has just exceeded his birth weight, so all good.

HoneyMumandSon · 03/01/2013 09:57

ok, don't even remember posting the question about co-sleeping i was so tired. But thank you all for the tips. Hopefully trying some of them will mean i get enough sleep to remember what i post!

Just put up a new pic of Dash snuggled in his sling on new year's day going for a walk.

WillYuleDoTheFandango · 03/01/2013 10:12

Lovely news Alison

Today I plan on tackling the big shop with baby in tow Shock need to drag myself out of bed first though

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 03/01/2013 10:22

Waiting in the hospital for Ethan's appointment. He's fast asleep and oblivious! He'll soon wake up when they take his blood :(

SpottyTeacakes · 03/01/2013 10:23

Well I've spent all morning getting us all ready, hair and make up done, only to find my car keys are locked in the 'bloody car' (dd's words Blush) so now I've got to cancel my post natal appointment and try to fit it in somewhen else ffs. I already missed the last one because the wrote January on the letter instead of December. I'm about to have a serious melt down.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 03/01/2013 10:33

Oh no spotty not a good morning!! It's usually the house I lock myself out of not the car. 6 times in the last 2 years

HoneyMumandSon · 03/01/2013 10:35

Breathe spotty shout fuck a few times into a pillow out of earshot and have a Brew not sure what else I can say to help really!

stacey good luck. How long till you get the results?

SpottyTeacakes · 03/01/2013 10:39

We can't even go for a walk because the back door is locked and the front door has a Yale lock Sad

Obviously it's all dp's fault and he got a right earful over the phone Blush

EggsMichelle · 03/01/2013 10:44

Wonderful news Alison.

Sat in Starbucks alone with F, and he has started to lip smack, not got the confidence to feed him without moral support, so going home to feed him (such a coward!)

Bellaboo123 · 03/01/2013 11:11

Spotty - argh for you! Agree with Honey scream a few fuck, shit and bollocks and stamp feet!!!

Well dare I say it I feel we've got a pattern of sleep establishing...fx! We wake at 3ish after going down at 11 and then again at 5.30ish.

brooke89 · 03/01/2013 11:17

Need to catch up on thread! Co-slept last night and had 7 1/2 hours sleep! Most I've had since LO was born! Hope everyone is ok will catch up properly later!

yuletopian99 · 03/01/2013 11:31

eggs I'm secretly a bit nervous about first public feed! We've had friends round here and I take myself off upstairs to feed. I fully support people bfing in public but it's more nerve wracking when it's you doing it!

Have tried to upload photo of Oz for people.- for some reason it keeps rotating it though?

SpottyTeacakes · 03/01/2013 11:33

Envy brooke and Bella!

Well to add to my bad day I've just checked my bank account and have had an extra two weeks rent taken by mistake WTF?! They'd better transfer it back today, no way I'm waiting for a cheque! Plus I need to pay DD's nursery fees, I'm already late, but can't afford it now!

EggsMichelle · 03/01/2013 12:03

Brooke and Bella, share some of your sleep with us please!

Utopian I have fed at home in front of friends and at families in front of extended family, all very confidently, strangers is the next challenge.

EggsMichelle · 03/01/2013 12:05

Oh Spotty, I would write today off as a non day and chill at home with the children. Have a Brew

SpottyTeacakes · 03/01/2013 12:11

I can't breastfeed infront of my family Blush too embarrassed Confused Fine in public though Grin

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 03/01/2013 12:14

Well they took bloods (and made him scream so much I nearly cried) and I'm waiting to hear, they go on the policy no news is good news. If something's wrong they'll ring if not I'll just get a letter in 1-2 weeks. I'm going to snuggle the poor mite all afternoon now to make up for them stabbing him in the hands (they had to do both as the first one wouldn't bleed! :(

As for public feeding, in my house people can like it or lump it tbh. Im more discreet when there's visitors but I'm not Movibg, if they're uncomfortable with it they can leave. In friends houses I just get on with it. I did my train station fail, and train feed which was ok but hard as he was so fussy I got upset. And today I fed at the hospital and tried to keep him feeding while they took bloods but that didn't last. As our latch is getting better and quicker I am getting much more confident.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 03/01/2013 12:54

Oh and they weighed him. He's now 8lb 2, so 11oz over his birth weight (which he was back to at 11days, so 2 weeks ago). 11oz in 2 weeks (or 40g) can't be too bad. Glad we're heading in the right direction!

Secondsop · 03/01/2013 12:56

spotty hope your day improves - after all that hassle with the appointments too. Re feeding, I'm like you - perfectly happy in front of complete strangers but more cautious in my own home in front of friends.. In front of family, fine, but I did feel a bit awkward in front of a friend and her husband who visited, who are childless and may not have had a chance to get comfortable with up-close feeding yet. I know I should be able to feed in front of anyone but at the same time it is something unfamiliar to many of my friends and I'd like to help them get comfortable with it. I did say "I'm going to feed him but it'll be under this muslin" and then just continued the conversation so that the feeding was part of the normal day.it was interesting that at my NCT group, none of us could remember recently seeing anyone breastfeeding - whether that's because we hadnt been frequenting the right places or whether everyone had been feeding incredibly discreetly, I don't know.

Has anyone else managed a bath time without their baby screaming blue murder?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 03/01/2013 13:14

second dd used to scream for every bath until she was about 5 months old. Thankfully Ethan loves the bath he didn't even cry for his first one, but I think it is totally dependant on their personality. Although I think I may do the water slightly warmer than the 'recommended', I've never owned a bath thermometer and have always tested the water with my hand not elbow, I haven't scalded a baby yet though.

Secondsop · 03/01/2013 13:18

stacey yes I think he finds the water too cold when at the recommended temperature.

Have put up a photo of him pulling a funny face.
