Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jaggythistle · 29/09/2012 21:15

we've a doidy cup, but DH has always been a bit reluctant at this due to frequent puddles! DS1 is not great at remembering to drink more slowly and not tip it right up. I'm just feeling he's a bit big to have lidded cups all the time. ..

i got some cheap wee coloured beakers in Boots the other day which has got him a bit more enthusiastic. thanks for comments all.

loopy - er a sling is great if you can get comfortable in one eventually. I've been using a stretchy wrap since DS2 was about 5 weeks.

i just try to get DS1's lunch on the table and feed DS2 while he eats and that sort of thing.

it went a bit pear shaped if they both pooed at the same time, DS2 sometimes ended up crying if he got hungry while i sorted DS1.

i think it's impossible to avoid someone crying sometime (possibly me if i was tired enough), DS1's behaviour was cheeky too. he's lovely with his wee brother now though. it's v sweet.

DreamingOfPeace · 29/09/2012 21:33

loopy, it'll get better. I was panicking then too! I did start lifting DD after 3-4 weeks post section though, briefly. I can strongly recommend not doing that. It's flared up problems I had after dds birth despite the dts being CS. Errr, I also used chocolate and tears (me) various bribes (DD) and as much family help as offered :)

scarlet, augmentin is notoriously bad for upsetting stomachs, hard, broad spectrum antibiotic. Think amoxycillin isn't quite so bad for causing the runs, though it can, its still quite broad spectrum I think . Not asking Dh, he'd go mental about not advising anything over the internet to people he doesn't know blah blah blah... Even though its info not personal advice as such we are after :) . Hope your ds is ok.

DD used to do a poo every 10 days, and no nappy was a match for a 10 day poo.... Only 3 a month though Grin

Boys both ill here, colds and diarrhoea. But it was manageable ish when we went to blackpool, not now... Yesterday DT1 went 14 times, DT2 10... Poor DT1 has a bottom like a baboons arse :( . I posted in misery on the twins thread yesterday but was so busy looking after my lot didnt get on here (though I read it all and composed long, interesting and witty replies in my head that I never got round to posting- anyone else do that?! I'm such a loser ) . Now doing every nappy for S stripped, washed in sink so no wiping/rubbing, allow to air dry so only traumatic part is getting the cream on. 4 overnight = mega stressful but little better today after 24 hours of the washing policy. Takes AGES though, plus lots of runs on the change mat/ towel so re-dos etc :( . Anyway, this too shall pass, please make it quick.

biscuits, huzzah for your night out!!! I have been out 5 times since dds birth. That's 5 times in 2 years 2 weeks Blush . Hope your ds feels better soon. Love that he can sing with tonsilitis :)

Got an image of you snuggling your DD ninja, sounds lovely :)

Am I mad that I'd like another baby to have just one to enjoy??? Two is fab, but you just can't look after them the same or treat them the same as if they were a singleton. Fact. Gives me mummy guilt.

DreamingOfPeace · 29/09/2012 21:37

Would a few new dvds to distract ds, a few new little toys/books in a special 'feeding box' to be looked at only when you are busy feeding ds2 help? I don't let DD watch tv in the day normally, ever, but she's had a couple of afternoons recently when its been me vs the littlies when I've let her watch a limited amount of dvd. She loves her Peter rabbit one but it does my head in because she's terrified of Mr blooming McGregor but insists on watching it...

DreamingOfPeace · 29/09/2012 21:42

Oh, and y y y to Bosch biscuits. We've stopped using our shit 3 to hotpoint washing machine when we moved here (DD was 5 weeks old) to use a then 10 yo Bosch instead. Our hotpoint tumbledryer gas broken down four times in the past 3 years, this Bosch washing machine is immense. man that fixed our dryer tried to sell me a maintenance package for all appliances, then spotted washer was Bosch and said Wed not need it for that one :) But for now, panic panic panic!!! I run 1-2 loads of washing daily, if not more. I'd be screwed if ours died....

jaggythistle · 29/09/2012 21:54

my phone ate my second post but ds1 definitely enjoyed a few new dvds and extra comics with stickers.

DS2's bum has been a bit rubbish too with all the poo dream. after much experimentation i swear by metanium with a layer of Lansinoh on top! seems to help it heal when raw and a thick layer of Lansinoh stops further damage.

poor little guys with colds and the runs!

DreamingOfPeace · 29/09/2012 22:24

Right jaggy, might go back to metanium tomorrow, thanks!

jaggythistle · 29/09/2012 22:41

he's costing me a fortune in Lansinoh, but it seems to work!

his bum was all raised and red and hot looking a day or so ago and it's almost perfect again after the metanium/Lansinoh combination. I've gone to just metanium during the day and the extra Lansinoh just for overnight till the last wee raw looking bit heals.

Lansinoh seems to be good for rashes in his huge thighs creases too. he tends to get a rash in his hidden neck folds as well.

sensitive babies!

scarletfingernail · 29/09/2012 23:32

Oh no Dream how horrible both your boys have runny bums. It sounds awful. Thanks for the reassurance re the anti biotics. I thought as much about the Augmentin. I don't think I've ever felt as rough as I did when taking that. Completely understand your DH's pov about not advising strangers, I'd be the same if I were him.

Loopy It's bloody hard, but it does get easier. Promise. Tv, dvd's, treats, bribery and loads of praise. Spend as much time with DS1 as you can. Point out stuff he can do that DS2 can't. Sometimes there's nothing you can do and you just have to come on here and have a good moan.

Biscuits another Bosch fan here. And LG. Either one of those and you won't go wrong. Unless you've got loads of money to spare in which case a Miele. They are best of the best. Well done on DS2's food intake. How's DS1 doing today?

Did you buy anything nice on your shopping trip Too?

Me and DH have been out this evening for a lovely meal. Waa nice to forget about the stresses of this last week for a couple of hours whilst my folks babysat. We've come back to DS burning up again though so no SFF and the alarm is now set to check him again in an hour.

jaggythistle · 30/09/2012 00:03

aw poor wee DS scarlet. :(

I'm just up with the poo machine, he's just woken me up with a random 11.30 one. he's only been asleep since about 9 ffs! thought he was going to stay awake to chat, but he's getting settled feeding now. struggling a bit with runny nose though.

pommedechocolat · 30/09/2012 00:55

loopy - telly during feeds, rota of quick toddler foods (microwaveable left overs, tortellini, beans, toddler ready meals etc), getting toddler as involved as they can be (nappy change help, lullaby singing etc). Don't panic, it gets easy and you do reunite with your toddler properly somewhere along the line!

scarlet - so glad you have a diagnosis!

I went out tonight! Drank wine! Must attempt sleep!

Biscuitsandtea · 30/09/2012 03:02

Loopy I agree with what everyone else has said about the toddler thing. It is really hard but it does get better, honest! cBeebies was (and is) my friend. Um, I had a bag of 'stuff' that I could pull a new treat or magazine etc from if needed. Getting toddler to help with nappy changes etc if they want to is good (baby wipe dispensing is a job my ds1 loves Smile). Getting all the help offered also v wise! As someone else said (I forget who) there was a lot o one or the other (or me) crying when they want things at the same time. I found that sometimes I had to make ds2 do the waiting (even though he cries louder!) so I could settle or entertain ds1 first stick the tv on. I don't recall how old your older one is? My ds1 is probs a bit older (was 3.6 when ds2 was born) but I could have him eating a sandwich while I fed ds2. Of course, the very fact that I was feeding so couldn't help him meant that he just wanted help or attention. And I can't see a way around that happening sometimes (after all, they suddenly have to share you). For instance, ds1 will ask me sometimes to help him with his sandwich. Seriously? Would he prefer I bite it or chew it for him? Ds2 is weaning so obviously gets helped all the way through his dinner so ds1 keeps wanting me to load his spoon etc for him and tbh I just go along with it for him.

But seriously Loopy do come and vent here - it's exactly what we're here for. And eat chocolate. Smile

How is DS now Scarlet? Has some calpol helped? Hope his temp is doing ok. Ds1 was mega tired again this afternoon although no temp again. Hoping they're both on the mend soon.

Ds2 ate his own body weight saltier and still woke up at 12:30 Sad. I cuddled him for about 15 mins and he drippe back off to sleep (which surprised me) but then he was up against 2:30 so I'm feeding him this time. I wish he would sleep through again Confused

I really don't know what more I could give him. Maybe he's having a growth spurt? Must be harder to manage a growth spurt with solids that he finds tiring to eat iyswim?

Hope all the pooing babies get their bottom ends back under control. Hope Jaggy's patented (or should be patented) method works for the DTs Dream xx

Biscuitsandtea · 30/09/2012 03:04

Hope you had a good night Pomme Smile. And Scarlet your meal sounds lovely too. I daren't go down the baby sitter route at the moment with ds2 doing this howling / waking thing. Confused

hawthers · 30/09/2012 06:34

Blergh DS2 been deciding 4 something is get up time. Ffs I had 3 weeks of sleeping through. why?

DH seems to think his sleep has been better since we came back from holiday in July. Er no! That man rewrites history. Going to be a loooong day.

jaggythistle · 30/09/2012 07:40

just been snuggling my giant chest frog baby. he was struggling to breathe and feed comfortably so I've sat up with him for a while. did i tell you he's the size his big brother was at 9 months? Shock

hope the other wee ones are feeling better today.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 30/09/2012 16:42

Mmm, Crabbie's alcoholic ginger beer. Yum.

Gosh, well done R! Super growth there, Jaggy.

Hope all the mini-Brookers are feeling better today.

Too I have to take DS to the GP cos he's constipated (passing hard poos and crying) but when he pulls that straining face and grunts and goes red I also find it very cute. Blush And he's cute when he cries. And when he pulls a 'yuck' face.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 30/09/2012 20:30

Um, the second nap should have read lap. She stood up on my lap.

Grin at Pet.

pommedechocolat · 30/09/2012 20:37

Too - I like the poo face too! DD2's is exactly like dd1's was as a baby. Dh says I'm being silly and its universal but I think it's genetic :)

jaggythistle · 30/09/2012 22:02

if DS2 gives you a really awesome cute smile, it means he's either away to do a poo or be sick all over you.

first tooth has come through today, I've been on for weeks about his bumpy gums so i look less mental now!

Biscuitsandtea · 01/10/2012 01:00

Another one here who thinks the little look of concentration accompanying a poi is fairly cute Smile. And it can be cute even if it is 'generic' MrPomme! They look super adorable when they're asleep and that's a sort of generic thing.

Hope ds2 hasn't been too poorly eith that tooth Jaggt - how old does that make him? Ds2 popped out teeth 5 and 6 today. Well, I think they've both just about broken the surface today. Made a bloody lot of fuss about it all though, poor sausage.

And of course he's awake at 12:30 like clockwork. My mum says I shouldn't feed him at night as he'll get used to it, but I don't see her offering to sit here all jight trying to get him back to sleep and then dealing with 2 children on no sleep the next day Hmm

Was it Dream that was told something about if they were waking at the same time each night it was hunger? Or was it that if they woke erratically it was hunger?

Surely if I've fed him and he's back asleep, it was hunger? I guess the test is if he now sleeps until the morning so let's see.....

Biscuitsandtea · 01/10/2012 03:29

Ok so he's awake again feeding. Maybe it's teeth waking him?

Does anyone else have a 6 month +er still feeding at night? My mother thought I should take him to the doctors if he was still waking up crying at night Hmm

jaggythistle · 01/10/2012 05:02

i think he'll be 22 weeks this week biscuits, 5 and a bit months anyway. he's been a bit more grumpy and looking for cuddles the last wee while and frantically chewing anything and anyone!

i think i can guarantee he'll still be waking past 6 months. Grin

DS1 was still up a fair bit by then too - i remember thinking I'd go a bit nuts when i first went back to work. my friend's DD was the same. i think he only slept through more often than not from about 8/9 months, but that means he was still up a few nights a week.

i find feeding the least stressful thing to do i guess. I'm sure DH tried going through to him occasionally, but he eventually stopped as DS1 was normally looking for milk. i was much in the huff about this being the one going out to work Blush

occasionally, if DS1 wouldn't settle he did used to take him to the living room and put on the tv and try cuddling him. when he was 1 he got a magic sleep inducing Waybuloo DVD which got a lot of use when ill or teething! Grin

jaggythistle · 01/10/2012 05:09

i have had more sleep this time round doing my nervous bit of co sleeping. that will be stopping soon when DS2 moves out of our room and i don't have the big cot alongside my bed. I'd be too nervous about him falling out!

he's moving in with DS1 which i am nervous about. DS1 is a good sleeper and i just don't know if he'll sleep through DS2 waking. i think I'll sit in a chair in our bedroom to feed him.

trying not to freak out now that I've counted those 6 weeks till I'm back at work.

Biscuitsandtea · 01/10/2012 07:16

Thank you Jaggy that makes me a feel a bit more normal and less like 'I'm doing something wrong' which is what my mum thinks :(

My mum genuinely believes that babies sleep through the night unless you 'do something wrong' (this could include things like cuddling your child etc) - I think she is very disappointed she can't tell all her friends that 'of course he sleeps through' and in her eyes waking for food is even more of a weakness than just needing to be settled back to sleep some other way. Hence her wanting me to take him to the doctors - I think she could forgive him for waking if he Had Something Wrong Hmm. I said that they would laugh me out of the surgery if I complained that my baby didn't sleep through but went straight back to sleep as soon as he was fed, oh and was teething too. And she was adamant that they wouldn't, they would think perhaps he had an intestinal kink and it was wind keeping him awake (wtf?)

Ah well, I shall continue to disappoint my mother feed him at night I suppose Confused

hawthers · 01/10/2012 07:28

In the nicest possible way, your mum is totally bonkers biscuits

Think I've offered to have her stay before but she can come and sort F's sleep out if it is that easy.... Up at 4.30, 5, 5.30, 6 etc. He probably would go back to sleep for longer if I fed him - hmm why am I not doing that?
