they're starting to arrive, so here's our 'Due in August' post natal thread. To talk poo, pee, burping and everything else, too...

Here's link to antd-natal thread for those we'll be waiting for www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1511603-Due-in-August-Thread-Part-6

Have borrowed Needles list, which I'll start here, please feel free to add your details to it. I'm rubbish at list keeping, and hopefully Needles will be along to keep it updated :o

Claire my midwife suggested expressing the hind milk and using it at the end of the next feed to syringe feed LO to ensure he has a top up of the 'good stuff'. Definately speak to your midwife, mine gave me some equipment and suggested where I could borrow an expressing machine.

Claire1209 · 24/08/2012 20:08

Aw I'll try that thank you! There isn't much support in my local area sadly! I breast fed DS2 but he had no problems he was a 10.4pound lump so always hungry lol! And yes I'm also terrified! This is my first girl after two boys so venturing Into the unknown! I guess it's natural!

hamncheese · 24/08/2012 20:46

Hey all, glad to see some feeding better... And hope that the other babies will be pros soon!

Better day for us, I'm so emotional and up and down but sandy wore his first cloth nappy today AND went out for lunch with grandad!

I do find it scary but try and remain calm when it feels like that...

tashaw28 · 24/08/2012 23:26

miaboo · 24/08/2012 23:48

Hi all
Baby boy 3 born yesterday after 21 minutes at the hospital and 8cm when I arrived!! 8lb 2oz beautiful and settling into home life since 7pm tonight!
I'm now watching bondi beach listening to him squeeking away in his moses basket waiting for the midnight feed as I think we may be already in a 4 hour routine, hubby snoring away upstairs!! Envy
was already up most of last night in hospital with either mine crying or someone elses!
funnily enough still a very happy mummy though :)

tashaw28 · 25/08/2012 04:24

Can't stop crying Sad
Day 3 blues I think. Plus still stuck in hell on earth, Victoria ward. Woman next to me snoring which I can't stand. Woman opposite me ignoring her crying baby for 10 mins every time they wake up. Worlds most uncomfortable bed and pillows, have pulled muscles in my neck and back and can hardly move them. So upset tonight, just wanna go home SadSad

tashaw28 · 25/08/2012 04:27

Ps milk came in today and had some devastating news about my dad so I know tears are expected, sorry. Just lonely at 4am

MrsMigginslovespies · 25/08/2012 07:36

Hello all. So, assume normal to be looking at baby and bawling my eyes out at 0630?! It's taken 24 hours to properly kick in, but my whole body is now aching and sore. Everything. Ferl run over by a train then kicked in the groin by a horse. But tis all ok when I look at my sleeping baby. Smile.
So, here's my birth story. I'll make it a bit shorter Wink. I felt a trickle at 0900 on Tuesday morning. Went in. They couldn't confirm if it was waters going or not. Went home. 0430 on Wed morning, waters DEFINITELY went. Contractions started 30mins later. Went in for 2 hours. All ok at that point, so popped home again for a bit. Back in again at 1330 as getting too much. Then started even more horrendous contractions until basically 2100 as baby had randomly turned again and was back to back! I was also not dilating at all, despite sweeps etc. Epidural went in to help then drips with oxytocin etc. All through the night labouring away and still only 4/5 cm. V touch and go until 1000 Thurs about cs when finally got to 10cm after a lot more drugs. Am the amazing non-dilating woman!! Started to push at 1100. Baby heartbeat slowed too much so episiotomy and forceps. Baby out at 1154.
Stitched etc and here we are. Am v bruised battered but v happy and emotional. I think all my scarring etc didn't help, nor did him being back to back. I actually thought I was going to die at one point.
Anyhoo, v long post, sorry! Staff here gave been amazing. I've got my own room (paid) as wanted space and they've been so supportive of me, giving tons of help with bf, bathing, changing etc. but it's still all quite scary and I hope I get it right.
Milk not in yet but maybe by Mon? Really want to bf, but if in the end for some reason it does't work, will have tried my best. But fingers and boobs crossed it does. Home later hopefully...
Sooo long, but good in a way to put it all down. Mummies are amazing and it's only now that I realise quite what my Mum did to have me. Happy Saturdays all xx

Vinolover · 25/08/2012 09:04

mrsm I think it's totally normal to look at your baby and cry :). The rush of love can seem unbearable sometimes!
I had William on the sat night and felt so sore strait away, my lower back and bottom especially but when I woke up mon morning my whole body hurt from top to toes! I felt like I had pulled every muscle in my body but it did ease after a couple of days.

William has decided that 4.30 is a really good time to be awake! Fingers crossed its a temporary thing! I still can't help smiling at him though when he's all wide eyed and looking scrummy.

Whiteangel · 25/08/2012 09:13

Why is Rowan an angel during the day and a grizzly monster at night. Did our first attempt at a bed time routine last night including a not very calming bath and even sang twinkle twinkle! No effect. Two nights of refusing to be put down unless he is feeding or snuggled up to me. I'm not keen on turning cosleeping into a regular thing. I'm terrified of suffocating him with my boob when I fall asleep but I'm too exhausted to stay awake. He'll happily sleep in Moses basket or carry cot during the day. I have given birth to a gremlin
Good job he is gorgeous!
Tash, the ward you are on sounds just like the postnatal ward we spent our first 24 hours on. DH couldn't even get down the side of the bed without tangling in the curtain and snoring lady was less than 2 foot away from me. I was very lucky to be able to transfer to the local MLU where I had originally planned to deliver. You'll be home soon. I also did the neck/shoulder thing after having in my arms all of the first night as I couldn't move from the spinal block to put him on his cot.

hamncheese · 25/08/2012 10:17

Sorry to hear things are so tough tashaw especially in hospital, we were in 5 days it was horrible. Do you get to have DP or someone with you during the day? We are all here to talk when it is hard :( it will get better soon though especially when you get home

miggins your labour sounds a lot like mine minus the forceps I feel for you! The back pain is unbearable isn't it... I never wanted an epidural but it was a god send in the end! Word to the wise don't spend time first day at home on your feet opening presents tidying etc will make your stitches way more sore! Lie down a lot with baby instead

white sandy is exactly the same happy in basket during the day but at night will only sleep in bed with us. dH was so scared of squishing him at first bu 3 weeks in nothing bad has happened. Even when I put him in the middle of the bed he manages to somehow scurry over and I always wake to find him in my armpit haha! So it seems he just wants warmth and comfort. Some nights e has a stint in the basket but he is quite restless there so just decided while he is tiny and colicky he can be with us, better sleep for all.

Last 2 days of DH holiday then we are on our own eek :(

WelshLadyCDF · 25/08/2012 12:40

white My Molly sounds similar, she co sleeps with me, DP in spare room, she wakes hourly to feed (my breast feeding support lady said the milk is creamier at night time.) Then from 9am ish is a dream and sleeps in the pram, gurgles, looks at mobiles etc

i just think newborns want/need to be near us, I have stopped fighting it or trying to change it for now, am totally exhausted but will keep going.

miggins your point about what our mums did for us is so true, my mum has now stepped into a new role of granny and also caring for me, cooking, going on mad dashes for maternity pads etc etc
(talking of maternity pads.....i don't remember learning that we bleed for weeks afterwards...yukky)

hamncheese · 25/08/2012 18:30

Wondering has anyone else's baby started what sandy started a week ago where he grunts and groans to poo like all the time. And I mean all the time, at night, while sleeping while feeding...?

geekette · 25/08/2012 19:05

Hello ladies! Joining you and will read thread soon. But need to ask...

TMI WARNING! !!!

Just need to find out if it is normal I am afraid of pooing because of my stitches.

How many days afterwards were others able to do the number two? And is it possible to bust the stitches on the loo.

susiegrapevine · 25/08/2012 19:08

Well I take it all back glad dh is home as have not got much sleep the last couple of days as jacob seems to want to be awake half the night.

This morn we thought ds1 might have chicken pox so called the midwives as we were worried due to the risks to newborns so worried for jacob not ds1. The midwives said go to docs so went to walk in centre. They said they could not tell if its chicken pox or not as no other symptoms except rash. Have to try and keep them apart (impossible much!) And keep and eye on ds1's rash and go to gp tues if we think it is chicken pox. Oh and check ds2 to make sure no symtoms. They did have a notice up saying it was going around nursery which is why we thought that's what it was. Nothing is ever simple. Now constantly worrying about the chicken pox and why is it a bank holiday!! Glad dh is here tho!

Otherwise we are all doing ok. Feeding going really well but I bf ds1 for 13 months so never thought it would be a problem.

Hope evryone else is doing well.

Geek I went on day 3 and it was fine. Just wait til you really do need to go so pushing isn't necessary IYSWIM. It was totally fine for me stitches made little difference :)

tashaw28 · 25/08/2012 21:58

Thanks guys, home at last this afternoon and already feel better, saw my dad and he met the new addition which was good, and about to tackle our first night with DH so at least I'll have some help, me neck still terrible but let's see what a night in a real bed does for it!
Good luck tonight everyone!

MrGeresHamster · 25/08/2012 22:25

Geek for me it was day 4 and yes I was really worried. I held stitches with a dampened pad. It did hurt, but that was also due to the piles and by being tense. Glamourous hey? I've been a couple of times since and it's been better each time. Make sure you eat plenty of fruit and drink lots to make things a bit smoother. Grin

MrsMigginslovespies · 26/08/2012 09:59

Going home this morning after a very emotional day yesterday! Will write properly later as have some questions re breastfeeding but hope everyone is well today. X

WelshLadyCDF · 26/08/2012 10:58

tash hope you had a good nights sleep, I was up feeding every hour, this must get better mustn't it?
I feel emotional today, we're taking LO out for the first time, I'd rather stay in and snuggle her xxx

hamncheese · 26/08/2012 14:55

Glad you are home tash and miggins

Sorry to hear you had a heavy going night welsh if it helps sandy was doing that but gradually swapped to feeding all day instead

For anyone with babies who won't settle GET A WRAP SLING I swear he sleeps in it within minutes every single time! And for an hour or two at least!

WelshLadyCDF · 26/08/2012 15:18

ham is a wrap one which goes over one shoulder?

geekette · 26/08/2012 17:21

Thanks for the replies ham and mrgeres . I am now on day 3 and can feel some stirrings. Taking courage from you and will use a pad!

Reading thread now. Hope to find latching tips.I barely have any nipples left already :)

Glad to have you ladies!

hamncheese · 26/08/2012 19:59

welsh wrap one is the long stretchy piece of fabric which crosses over both shoulders and wraps round your front and ties at the bottom. The baby slots in the front cross. I have moby but Kari me is the same. I think the one shoulder one is baba sling but I've heard many people say they hated it online and in RL.

Persevere with the BFing geek many of us have found a lot of nipple pain in first 10 days despite good latching but it just gets better after that. I think it was just going from never feeding to constantly feeding that caused the pain and for me a bit of cracking.

Another good day thanks to mr sling :) feeling more positive about our proper first day all alone tomorrow now. Hope everyone is doing ok and if it is tough remember you will get a bit of respite eventually even if it never feels like you will... That thought has been keeping me going a lot recently! Xx
