Hey ham sorry to hear you are having such a rought time of it!

Had my 6 week check today came nack with lots of leaflets re contraception. Couple of odd things minivine has a blue spot due to his dad being half philipino which I had noticed really cos it on his back at the top of his bum and he has a really hairy back so I just thought it was go there is lots of hair anyway she told me to take a photo of it in case people think its a bruise cos then child abuse issues might come up with social services!!
She also made a comment about how his poos smell sweet but when I repeat when I start mixed feeding they won't smell as nice (came about cos he had done a poo when she was examining him) I just said oh I breast fed my 1st for 13 months so we prob won't be doing that!! I thought the nhs were supposed to encourage exclusive bf she was assuming I will mix feed!! Crazy!

Oh an he has a squint that I have to look out for and make sure he does not have at around 3 months. Otherwise he is healthy.

MiniPopsMum2012 · 04/10/2012 17:56

Hey everyone, have also fallen off the thread again. Hope everyone is ok. I'm another fan of the Medela Swing breast pump.. :)

We've been having fun and games this end, MiniPop's sleeping is really bad due to his tummy problems. He's currently being treated for GORD (severe reflux) and we've also changed his milk (not on special premmie stuff anymore), and he's had his third lot of injections so we're not entirely sure what's causing the problems, all I know is that I haven't slept properly for days and spent 10 minutes looking for my mobile yesterday which was underneath my arm...!!!

Susie your DR is right - FF babies smell bad.. Confused their poops and farts are really smelly.

Will try and keep up with this thread a bit more (promise) :D

Ham were you successful with the carpet shopping? I still need to get MiniPops nursery sorted as we're moving him in there ASAP, he's just too noisy for our room now and I have to grab him everytime he makes a peep so he doesn't wake my DP up, which isn't encouraging him to settle back on his own.

hamncheese · 04/10/2012 18:53

Oh should say the Medela mini is the bomb and only £50 (careful boots had it for £70!!) it's also battery operated as well as mains so you can take it with you I've used it in the bath hehe!

minipop got carpet picked my dadsa picking it up on Monday and will lay it soon and look into a proper radiator with a thermostat as we don't have central heating in that room. Then just need to paint his wardrobe :) I think you should get DP earplugs ! Or get him on the couch hehe x

Signet2012 · 04/10/2012 19:37

My baby is going bald!!! At the front!!! She looks more like my dad than ever Blush

Night times are much better now getting at least 1 three hour block of sleep which is much easier on me Wink

Can I ask you how much do your babies cry? Mine seems to cry alot unless she is on a boob or asleep. Should I be concerned. Sometimes cuddles help sometimes patting. She seems to have a lot of wind but more often from bottom end (pretty spectacular though wins dog and dp hands down). Any ideas? My mum says normal but I don't know it's awful when nothing comforts her.

MrsMigginslovespies · 04/10/2012 20:35

Evening all,

Have also been a bit absent recently too due to constant baby stuff and my laptop always falling off the internet and annoying to type on phone. Anyhoo, hope you're all doing ok. LO has been diagnosed with reflux (silent) so we've been having a trying time of it all over the past 10 days or so, with it getting really bad by Monday. Lots of crying, painful and very fussy feeding, and general grimness all round. After speaking to a slightly unhelpful gp yesterday who prescribed gaviscon, the light at the end of tunnel won't be long. If it's not better by Wed, then w're going back for something else. Both my sister's babies had reflux too (normal and silent), so am well versed in it all and want to get it under control asap. Poor baby boy, he's had a difficult time (as have we!).

Had my 6 week check up today and must say, am a tad underwhelmed by it all. He hardly asked any questions about me (nothing about my episiotomy, feelings, low-ish PND score from yesterday etc). He did take my bp and take some blood to check for iron, and mentioned contraception (slightly joked that it wasn't an issue for me as had IVF which I thought was a bit insensitive TBH). But he did check over minimiggins and has referred him to a paed as he's got a wierd lump on his neck that I wasn't too happy about anyway (probably from forceps) so good to get a second opinion. He was also none too encouraging about BF-ing either, saying it wasn't for everyone, and gave an odd example of how French women don't BF their children and as a nation the french are all v healthy. Odd. It's no wonder that many people give up when dealing with old fashioned (male) country gps. Rant over!
Had supper using both hands tonight, which is a first for a while!

Hope you're all having a nice night and your beautiful babies are thriving. x

MiniPopsMum2012 · 04/10/2012 20:46

signet Minipop crystal all the time, in fact we think he's poorly when he doesn't cry. I am not sure if that's normal or not, but he is one grumpy baby Grin

Loislane78 · 04/10/2012 21:07

Jeez, some of you are going through the wringer :( I don't know how you're doing it - serious mum points for hanging in there Wine

ishopthereforeiam · 04/10/2012 22:14

fairtrade sooo jealous! 6 hours!? Share your secrets please!

ham wowww sounds like you have a lot going on, big hugs. Period so soon Shock and teething so early also Shock you're doing a fab job tho!

signet he usually cries a fair bit - sometimes it feels like all the time but it's not. He cries when tired or hungry (!) he usually has an hour or so post feed of happy time where he smiles, laughs, coos etc (he's 9 weeks). It does get better! I have to remind myself dd was like this and it drove me mad but she's hilarious now and makes me laugh soooo much!

mrsm how rude of your GP! Very insensitive.

Little pearl of wisdom I wish someone told me post dd apparently you are very fertile in the year post birth not sure if this is true or not but dd took 10 months to conceive whereas ds was first half hearted (so to speak lol) attempt(!) (11 months post dd)

MiniPopsMum2012 · 05/10/2012 00:06

Flipping eck ishop, I am staying away from DP if that's true. Minipop was the result of our first proper 'try' Shock Grin

Gnomi · 05/10/2012 07:54

I've written about 4 posts in the last few days but they keep being wiped due to our ridiculous wifi! Fifth time lucky...

Things are ok here, have been a lot more sociable and even went to a mums and buggies exercise class, which was great! After a few attempts, I am pleased to report that "romance time" is now well underway - but will take your advice to heart, ishop! LO is giving us loads of smiles and interacting which is great.

He's always been quite a sicky baby, pukes a bit after most feeds, especially in the morning but not really at night. However, yesterday, he seemed to be really puking all day! It doesn't seem to bother him, and he's not dehydrated, but he didn't sleep so well last night, and then didn't feed terribly well during the night. Anyone else struggling with a puker? I have to change his clothes around 5 times a day due to vomit!

hamncheese · 05/10/2012 09:04

Sandy is sick after most feeds, usually when on the changing table gnomi but a bib usually catches it. If its a lot makes sure he doesn't have any symptoms of reflux?

Heard that advice too ishop. Told DH to keep away from me. Sandy was conceived on month 2 of trying so god knows how dangerous it is now!

Meeting my nct girls today looking forward to getting out and nt being too worried about feeding.

Gingerelle · 05/10/2012 10:22

Hi ham, sorry to hear you're having a tough time. I've also had my period already (at 6 weeks!!)...trying to see it as a good sign my body is bouncing back to normal rather than just VERY ANNOYING!

So, DP and I managed 'the deed' last night - for those with pain like I had (2nd degree tear and stitches) a tube of KY made all the difference!! Sorry if TMI but thought might be helpful to share.

First free day for ages for me and mini so planning a stroll onto town but mostly a lazy one. She's been smiling loads the last few days which is so nice!

Oh and can I ask if anyone has used IUS as method of contraception? GP is recommending it but it's not one I've ever felt keen on .....

Happy Friday all xxx

fairtradelu · 05/10/2012 12:05

Sadly it was a one-off ishop but she does normally sleep for four hours straight before going down to 2. I basically spend from about 6:30 to 8:30pm feeding pretty much constantly! Me and DH are both also big fans of sleep so maybe it's in the genes :) Unfortunately she doesn't seem to like sleeping during the day so I never get anything done and spend my days alternating between boredom and trying to do things in 5-minute bursts before she stirs. Rather stressful at the mo but hopefully things will settle soon. She isn't even four weeks old yet after all.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

susiegrapevine · 05/10/2012 13:50

Hey ginger not used uis but keen to get advice on it and the other forms of contraception used while bf. Have got info on that one and the implant and injection and normal coil have read all the info on them all and have come to no decision!! I don't wanna use the mini pill as tried that last time and just could not remember to take it with a new baby so will be worse this time I figure.

pintofmilk · 05/10/2012 19:12

HAM sorry you are feeling down at the moment, hang on in there, hope things improve soon.Wine

ISHOP I am also proof of the fertile in the first year, I was 3 months pregnant when DD had her 1st birthday Shock. hard work for the first year having them soo close together, but now they are the best of friends and keep each other amused which has been a godsend over the summer holiday's!

Loislane78 · 05/10/2012 21:39

Friday yayyyyy!!! That means 2 days help from DP Grin. Feet up, relax Hmm

Realise what I thought was 7 wk old evening fussiness/wind pains the last few nights is actually over-tiredness as she's at the stage of resisting sleep. You just learn to cope with one thing and along comes another challenge! Partly my own fault as I was trying to get her to sleep on her own in the afternoon; she didn't hence over-tired. Ah well, more trial and error tomorrow.

Can anyone advise on storage of b-milk pls, i'm new to this. So in the fridge (not the door) its good for a couple of days? If I freeze immediately on expressing, can I keep adding to the same bag/container or does it have to be stored as individual batches iyswim?

Shocked to read about being super fertile during this time Shock. Our bodies are amazing but you'd think it'd realise we're absolutely cream crackered and now is just not the time! It felt like the GP spent most of my 6 wk check talking about contraception. My Dolly Parton boobs meets Jessica Rabbit size comedy ass/thighs, topped with dark circles under my eyes must be giving off that sexy rampant rabbit look Hmm

Hope you've all got nice plans for the weekend and get some zzzzz's tonight :)

geekette · 06/10/2012 05:10

+1 shocked at extra fertility. I and dh were already struggling to come to terms with attempting to do the deed. Told him this last night and now we may never get round to it.
Thanks for the no night time nappy change except if soiled tip. Mini seems more relaxed now!

My boobs are sagging... and I just can't keep the nursing bras done up as mine still feeds constantly. Do they need to be done up to give support? And are there other kinds of bras which don't have hooks? Maybe pull to the side to nurse bra? I always forget to do the hooks up afterwards

PictureThis · 06/10/2012 08:26

Geekette sometimes I forget to do the hooks up but worse, forget to pull my top down. The poor postman nearly saw more than he bargained for the other dayBlush.

DS's reflux hasn't improved that much. The Gaviscon is making him constipated so I've cut back on the number of doses he's having. The ranitadine seems to have sorted out the pain from the reflux once we increased the dose so although he's still being sick, he's a happy up chucker. I'm taking him to an osteopath a week on monday to see if a bit of cranial osteopathy will help to improve things.

DS is another baby with very dry skin on his head, mostly his forehead and brow area. I've geen putting all kinds on it but no improvement. My skin is really dry too, esp on my forehead, all flaky and itchy. Anyway, I'd read on here that the baby Bottom Butter you can get from Waitrose is a great moisturiser so I went and got some yesterday and it's helped. It soaked into the flakes on DS's head enough for them to become so soft they came off easily (think dead skin after a bath). He looks much better and far less crusty!! I've used it too and it's great although probably best as a night cream though.

ishopthereforeiam · 06/10/2012 11:48

lol @ picture's lucky postman Wink

little man also managed a 6 hour sleep the night before last but a total one off! i think it may be b/c he let out all the gas and poop right before he slept...

might go off into town totally alone today (!) so far only managed a 1.5 hour to the supermarket last friday so quite excited at prospect of some alone time!

also a fan of the waitrose baby bottom butter here picture it's great!

hope everyone has a fab weekend!

Signet2012 · 06/10/2012 12:33

How's everyone getting on. I'm still getting better sleep at least two hours between feeds, night routine in place and sometimes I get 3 hours!!! Think lo has wind though as she is bringing her knees up and screaming, she has also started having dark green bits like broccoli in her poo. Have googled and it says colic causes this. Any ideas? Mums net is like my midwife, friend and health visitor all in one! Grin

The3Bears · 06/10/2012 15:10

Hi everybody,

Sorry some of you are having a tough time atm, Had mine and LO's 6 week check the other day and everything was fine but slightly annoyed with gp checking LO over as she weighed him and he was 11lb 11oz and she put into his red book and said to go and get him weighed next week as he has fallen of the 75th centile a little bit (which is normal ds1 did it alot in the first year), also commented on the size of his head which is just below the 98th centile but looks completley in proportion to his body?!? DS1 was the same and at his 8 month check it was on the 50th centile, I just find the whole chart things really frustrating as I feel like BF is going really well and dont want to be put off by some silly GP and silly charts! Sorry for the rant :(
susie I have gone back on the mini pill and I put an alarm on my phone for the same time everyday (bathtime for LO's) so I dont forget to take it, maybe you could do that? still thinking of having the coil in 6 months as no more Lo's for us I dont think.

Hope you feel better soon ham

Noah is just loving nappy free time atm and kicking his legs about alot it's v funny he gets very excited and looks adorable :) Is anyone else's LO enjoying doing that atm? he looks like he's riding a bike when he does it

I got a close caboo baby carrier last week and I dont know why I didnt get one sooner I can get housework done and keep Noah happily snuggled up to me it's fab :)

Looking forward to having an early tea soon and bathing the LO's and getting in bed early as dp is working all night and tomorrow :( and I feel so tired would love to just sleep now.

Hope everyones having a nice weekend :)

hamncheese · 06/10/2012 19:16

Glad things are going well bears and you are enjoying your sling. The charts are daft aren't they... Helpfully my practice make a point of not weighing after the last home visit unless problems so people don't over worry.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Sandy was better last two days. Had an epic screaming when trying to feed session today in the middle of Frankie and bennys joy had to then try feeding him in the baby change where he screamed for ages and I missed DHs birthday candle laden dessert be brought and singing of happy bday etc grrr. He didn't feed for 6 hours while out and only was consoled in the sling while everyone else bowled and then got home and fed fine. I think his brain is more advanced than his body he gets so distracted and over stimulated out and about with new things to see. So a trying day but managed not to let it ruin DHs birthday time.

Update on our bedtime routine which seems to be forming finally. It's so hard to do when your LO is unpredictably windy, screamy and teething without warning. But last night he fed at 6.30 and then we put him down in our bed where he loves sleeping at night at 7 and he slept til 7.30 then spent half an hour resettling after he woke from wind and he slept for 1.5 hours then woke and fed in bed and we all went to sleep was up a few times to feed in the night no big deal so that's good. Finally getting somewhere at going 10 weeks! How are your routines going?

geekette · 06/10/2012 21:24

Grr. Lo has been screaming since 2 pm. Cause unknown.

capecath · 07/10/2012 08:09

3bears I wouldn't worry about those sizes - we're also hovering round the 75th centile for weight and with height and head size on 98th centile. DS1 had an even bigger head!! But he has grown up completely in proportion and absolutely nothing wrong. Just big boys I think. Big head equals big brains??:)

geekette oh dear!! :( Hope you managed to get some rest eventually!

ham we're still not in much of a routine during the day although he is generally sleeping more during the day which is great. Still not in the evenings, but we're getting regular 5/6 hour stretches at night! (almost 8 weeks on)

geekette · 07/10/2012 11:56

Thanks capecath. But the screaming continues.. she slept from 10 pm till 7 am and woke up crying.

Feeding constantly in the interludes.now sleeping but we are dreading when she'll wake.
