Hi Gnomi - good work on the sleep! We used cow&gate for dd but I think try a few out and see what works?

Poor little man is so gassy and in pain his cries are like screaming. I've tried massaging his tummy and the cycling leg movements, any other tips?

MrsMigginslovespies · 26/09/2012 21:57

Evening all,

Just a wee one to say hello and hope all your babies who aren't well are soon on the mend. DH just announced he's getting a cold. Joy. Already stockpiled ome saline drops but really hoep it misses us (unlikely).

After a crazy evening last night when all LO did was cry or feed, today was much better (so far!). We actually made it out of the house for a breastfeeding group, went round the shops then out for a dogwalk. Was nice to have achieved something other than a shower or the laundry!

Gnomi, I give LO a bottle of Aptimil at night as it does keep him settled for longer. Really dithered about dong it for ages as felt bit guilty, but I'm tired by the end of the day, my milk is low, plus it gives DH a chance to feed him. I was also expressing for a while for the night feed, but gave it up last week as was so engorged by the morning, decided it was just as easy to feed normally.

Really hope we all have a good night tonight. Am shattered now and can't wait for bed! x

susiegrapevine · 27/09/2012 08:56

gnomi we used sma when I went back to work but that was the follow on stuff we got it cos it wasd cheapest and thought we will start with the cheapest and if he likes that stick with it. If not move on to the next price up. I would try one of the small made up cartons don't buy I whole tub in case your lo doesn't like it as it tastes a lot different to breast milk.

Surely your pump has some sort of guarantee I would not expect it to break!! If less than a year old anyway I'd try to take it back to the shop!

Hmmm jacob seems to get really unsettled and seemingly in pain around 6pm two nights running now am thinking colic but unsure as ds1 never suffered with it that I noticed but he really seems to scream in pain and fuss at the boob??

hamncheese · 27/09/2012 09:16

ishop try feeding immediately after a big massage session

What a ugh night. Me and sandy both loaded with the cold. Went to bed at 8. Up many times clearing out his nose poor soul he sounded so choked we sat up on pillows and slept propped up with him on my chest. Highly unorthodox I'm sure but eased his snuffling. Lots of vomit too as he kept choking trying to breathe when feeding then being sick :( did stay in bed til 7 though and he did a 5.5 hour stint even though sick so not all bad. Hoping we both improve a lot today... Really feel crappy! Another day on the couch for us.

Agree the sizes are so different across shops gnomi and even within shops... I got 2 sleep suits 0-3 from gap and one fits one is MASSIVE!

Whiteangel · 27/09/2012 09:24

I've been recommended baby massage classes for helping with painful wind. GP and HV couldn't suggest anything else so trying desperately to get on a course but the one at the nearest children's centre only has 8 places and is full so I'm on the reserve list. They aren't running any morethis year! My antenatal teacher, who I love, runs them from her own home but that would be an hour round trip. Don't know what to do. I am going to a baby sensory open day at the children's centre next Friday so I can find out what else is going on and meet the staff. Why are the best centres in the roughest areas? I'm a snob I know but was hoping to meet localmums I have something in common with! Serves me right for moving to a littlevillage!

warzonemummy · 27/09/2012 13:23

hello everyone, I have been away from MN for a while. I am back in Afghanistan and got back to work 2 weeks ago. Baby is well, she is 8 weeks old now and being quite good. We have a nanny for her and she comes to work with me. I do miss her still as she is physically with me only when she feeds. Baby has somewhat a routine. She usually sleeps from 8pm and wakes up for feeds at 1,3,4 and finally at 7.
The only issue is that she likes to be held all the time. My arms are falling off now of holding her. Any ideas on how can I change this?
I am thinking of making gripe water. Any recipes welcome. I just don't feel comfortable buying what is available here and I cant be bothered to import gripe water.
Glad to see all August babies are here. I am shocked to see so many c sections. Hope you are all recovering well.
Has anyone started weight loss yet?
Sorry for such random message, I have written this over 8 hours in between work and feeds.

capecath · 27/09/2012 13:44

Wondering if anyone having issues getting LO's to sleep during the day? LO is sleeping great during the night - last two nights we've had 6 consecutive hours! But in 24 hours period he is getting no more than about 12 hours total which I really don't think it enough... He usually has one long nap in the afternoon (2-3 hours), but is otherwise up most of the morning and evening. eg. yesterday between 4pm and midnight he slept for half an hour. I've tried everything - feeding, burping, rocking in darkness and quiet, with daddy, even a dummy, putting to sleep while still happy (worked great for DS1), swaddling.. but no joy. The long nap is usually in his carseat after we have been driving around! Don't remember this being an issue for DS1. Anyone else or ideas??

Whiteangel · 27/09/2012 15:26

We don't have much sleep during the day either so interested to hear comments!

hamncheese · 27/09/2012 15:42

Sandy is getting better at daytime sleep... I think it was a combo of wind and not being with me that stopped him sleeping during the day. Now he is more comfy and a bit older (8 weeks) he tends to have 2-3 daytime naps around 2 hours each. Varies though sometimes 1 hour ones sometimes up to 3 or 4. He is still always alert for an hour after waking in the morning and refuses to sleep between 5 and 8 generally.

Do your LOs fall asleep at the breast? That's how I get him to sleep in the day. He feeds then falls asleep at the breast, I let him snooze on me til in a deep sleep (do floppy arm test) usually 15 mins to half an hour then transition him to basket. Sometimes it works great like his afternoon he didn't even wake and flopped into his basket like a rag doll! Sometimes the transition wakes him or wind does. I tend then to hover near the basket with the dummy and soothe him back to sleep with that. Hit or miss but he is getting better. He is also getting better at Going back to sleep when he wakes mid nap. He looks about a bit then closes his eyes again. I think he does this at night too a lot but I can't tell as too dark to see his eyes. During weeks 6 and 7 he barely slept in the day unless on me, so may just be age and stage? Hth.

Gnomi · 27/09/2012 16:58

Daytime sleeps are really unpredictable here. Ben usually needs 3 or 4 naps, but often I can only get him to have 2. However, today he slept in his buggy from 11am-3pm without waking!

He had his vaccinations today (8 weeks) and he's been really miserable since waking up. I know it's normal but it makes me sad when he's so upset!

MrsMigginslovespies · 27/09/2012 19:07

Another one here with random daytime naps. Didn't sleep at all today from 9am until 3pm. Then slept till 6pm. Dozing on me at the mo after a feed so am hoping to transfer to basket so I can eat. Slept quite well again last night too but am keen to get him to nap more in the day (5 weeks today).
Nice to see you here Warzone. Sounds like you have your hands full with workband baby. Bought some gripe water today too so hope it works should we need it. Do you have access to a dip bag? I can get some to you if you fet desperate.
Hoping your evenings are ok tonight. Am by myself again tonight and get anxious must confess x

geekette · 27/09/2012 19:53

I don't actually know what gripe water is so can't help there.

And another here wearing 3-6 month clothes. the others were just too tight. That said we have started using cloth nappies on mini geek and we would have had to use the larger sized clothes to contain the nappy anyway. Which it was summer so we could show off her colourful bum!

She has slept all day! Actually she sleeps much better during the day now that we let her sleep on her tum. She has a teddy bear/pillow for this and we have watch her constantly. Currently possible because there are still two adults here so one can still be strapped to the sofa doing nothing but watch her.

We have now noticed that she does not sleep as well at night as she does during the day. She has had a cold and this has only made sleeping on her back sound worse... Cold's over now. hoping tonight brings less drama.

geekette · 27/09/2012 19:54

pff. wish instead of which it was summer

geekette · 27/09/2012 19:55

Oh and her spots have now turned into a red, angry, eczema and her baby, soft, cheeks feel like rough sand paper :(

tashaw28 · 27/09/2012 22:21

geek get the angel care monitor with sensor pad, that's what I used when my other 2 slept on their fronts, really gives you piece of mind.
war hope you are coping ok with working and being a mummy, sounds very hectic, don't worry about holding her all the time, you wont' be doing it when she's active and moving around, but in the mean time try lots of playtime on the playmat or under a mobile maybe to help her adjust to not being held.
Big news here is 5 weeks and 1 day we've had a few real smiles!!! And pretty sure I've stopped bleeding, finally! Anyone else bled for this long?

Gingerelle · 28/09/2012 00:52

Hi geek...our spots (on forehead and then also spread up to top of head) are also now dry, crusty rough patches. Health visitor today recommended Aveeno moisturiser and said u could get it from supermarkets but I tried 2 and no luck. Amazon sell it, it's about a tenner but got good reviews, for dry skin and ecxma.

Tash my bleeding stopped just before 5 weeks but last few days (5 weeks, 4 days) still had some v light spotting, usually on days when LO is having a mega-feed day or if I've done a lot physically.

Peaceful day here but think we're in for a repeat of Monday night with continuous feeding and lots of crying invetween, grrr.

Hope for peaceful nights for everyone else xxx

Gingerelle · 28/09/2012 00:58

Oh and daytime naps v variable, some days 3 or 4, others only 2 brief ones but does seem the more she naps in the day the bettershe sleeps at night.

Ambi · 28/09/2012 01:38

Hi all.

I've found it hard to post as some are having a tough time with their LO's but DD is currently a fairly contented baby and didn't want to appear smug. Though she's only 3weeks today so there's plenty of time for change!! I'm feeding on demand currently but plan on getting into the EASY routine asap (I used this very successfully with DD1 from about 6weeks) so slowly starting to implement this now with the feeds, after a feed, awake time for 30 mins or so then down for a sleep until she wakes for next feed. I've been monitoring it with a fab app for the last few days, she sleeps for about 2hrs each time. Although we had fun yesterday when she wouldn't settle due to overtiredness and wind.

I feel like I've recovered quickly from the birth, in that first week I took DD into work twice, went shopping (big shopSmile), registered the birth and visited my Grandparents over an hour away (I'm glad I did as the cancer finally took Gdad this weekSad, so he got to see his great grand daughter before he died)
I've taken it a bit easier the last few weeks in a bid to stop the bleeding (it was 10weeks with DD1) I'm pretty keen to do the deed if only to check that everything works ok down there!!

Re weightloss, I think I'm maybe half a stone off pre-pg weight but fit into my clothes bar a bit of muffin top (although I was an 16-18 before pg so not much of an achievement). I am planning on losing a couple of stone before I go back to work and I'm keen to start exercising now but I think I should wait for the 6wk check.

Must go back to sleep now, xx

Ambi · 28/09/2012 01:43

Quick one about clothing, DD is still too small for newborn, they are so baggy on her. She was weighed last Friday and had put on 3oz since birth so now is 6lb5, still a tiddler. Despite both my DDs being 2wks overdue they weighed around thesame at birth. I grow small and lazy babies!

fairtradelu · 28/09/2012 08:37

Hi all,

It's good to hear the babies are starting to sleep in regularise patterns. No such luck yet here, but she is only 3 weeks old on Monday.

Does anyone have a Stokke MyCarrier? At what age did you first use it? I am wondering whether to give it a go - can't push pram due to section and starting to feel very house bound. It does seem quite rigid in comparison to other slings so am wondering if it'd be worth investing in a soft sling for the first few months...

Help appreciated!

hamncheese · 28/09/2012 08:58

ginger I think you would get aveeno at larger boots (used to work there) and agree we always get good night sleep after good day sleep.

Sorry to hear about your grandad ambi lovely he got to meet his new granddaughter though x

SCOTTISH MUMS

Posted this on fb too.. If you are near Glasgow or are up for the journey then sandy and I go to the nct bumps and babies meet on first and third Wednesday of the month. Have some nct class friends there and we grab coffee after so if you fancied making the transition from MN/fb to RL I will be at this one. Train from central to queens park gets you there (no ramp at station though) or bus 38 from town to strathbungo. You can park there free also. I will be getting the train, so can meet at central if you would like :) x

susiegrapevine · 28/09/2012 10:11

tash I stopped bleeding a few days ago at 5 weeks. It does seem to last forever its like 9 months of periods in one!

geek ginger my dh who had eczema for years as a child and sometimes gets it now as an adult used to use E45 but recently discovered that sudocrem is actually the best he only tried it due to lo's! So you could try that as is clearly fine for babies and cheaper than aveeno. My lo also seems to have eczema all over his face and a bit on his chest but was gonna ask gp next week at 6 week check. Did try sudo but only one application think I need to do it everyday really to have an effect.

fairtrade I've got the mothercare own equivelent of that carrier tho mine is only 2 way and I have used it a few times so I don't have to take the double when taking ds1 to nursery and when my niece was here so we only had to take the double not 2 prams and jacob 5 weeks now was fine in it and slept the whole time. In fact the motion of walking sent him right off. Plus I think they like it cos there head is right next to your heart. Found it really easy to put him in on my own after a couple of tries with people helping.

Got infacol yesterday so fingers cross it will help as we had another screaming session which started at the same time again yesterday at around 6! Not good when trying to ready the dinner. Tho last night was take out with friends over so was fine dinner wise but have to give him to daddy as he is the only one that can calm him!

Whiteangel · 28/09/2012 10:49

Anyone used dentinox anti-colic drops? Tried them last night and this morning but they make his breath smell horrid and he spits most of it out. Is it worth persevering? My mum is coming up tomorrow morning. Can't wait for her support so we can go on some fun adventures!
Any one else got a M&P sola pushchair? Ours was pushing strangely so we examined it last night and the two front wheels are squashed! It seems to be due to folding it with the wheels locked. He's only six weeks old and we've hardly used it due to my section. May be user error but seems a bit of a design flaw to me! Hoping to take it back when DH finishes work tonight but not sure what they'll say/do. Hope they will fix it as it was blooming expensive!

capecath · 28/09/2012 13:05

Wow, didn't realise Aveeno was so expensive - we've been getting it "free" on prescription for DS1!!:) But now DH mostly uses it for his dermatitis and finds it works really well for him, better than for DS1 for which we now use Sudocrem (like susie has recommended) which works great. Had real issues with his skin which we discovered seemed to be from swimming pool! Fine now that we're no longer swimming in that pool...

ham hmm may just be up for that meeting! We're in Edinburgh but could prob make a day trip out at some point, or meet somewhere in the middle, like Livingston?

hamncheese · 28/09/2012 13:44

cath that's great... I don't have a car to use during the day so Edinburgh is probs easier for moe as can get the train (livi train station a bit isolated) unless it suits everyone else can get a taxi. A few on the fb page want to meet... Going to maybe do one on Glasgow one on Edinburgh and those who can make either or no great... Glasgow on 17th October
