they're starting to arrive, so here's our 'Due in August' post natal thread. To talk poo, pee, burping and everything else, too...

Here's link to antd-natal thread for those we'll be waiting for www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1511603-Due-in-August-Thread-Part-6

Have borrowed Needles list, which I'll start here, please feel free to add your details to it. I'm rubbish at list keeping, and hopefully Needles will be along to keep it updated :o

We have been out for ds's 3rd birthday today. He was a hard work baby, but today was a joy. It did make me realise how quickly it goes though!

Vinolover · 06/09/2012 09:48

Good morning all

It goes so quickly raining. My two children are back to school today and they're in year 6 and 3! It just doesn't seem possible that I bought my eldest home 11 years ago in 3 weeks time! Thank goodness I still have a baby to snuggle Grin.
I hope your ds had a lovely birthday :)

I managed to see every hour last night as William was really snuffly and kept bringing some milk up which meant lots of muslin and sleep suit changes. I have just made myself the biggest and blackest coffee to get me through and it's just going to have to be chocolate biscuits too!

Hope everyone has a lovely day and the sun is shining where you are :).

MrsMigginslovespies · 06/09/2012 09:48

So, we had an alright night...gave him a feed at 11pm (we're using formula at night which we dithered about a lot and which caused me a few tears but it does seem to work). He then slept till 3.30am and I gave him a bottle of expressed milk and he then settled until 7.15. He's now had a couple of small-ish feeds since then and a couple of catnaps.

Is anyone noting down when their babies are sleeping/eating etc? Am keen to start trying to get him into a vague routine (not in a scary militant way) so am wondering if there's any sort of pattern emerging for him.

Anyhoo, hope everyone has a good day with their Los today. x

susiegrapevine · 06/09/2012 10:54

Well had a bit of a restless night with jacob and kept having little feeds as he kept drifting off from being over tired. Was restless in the evening too!

Not writing down feeds especially as am half a sleep at night and not really too sure what the times are now! Ds1 did get into a routine can't remember at what age but to the extent that when he dropped a night feed i was waking up but he wasn't.

Enjoy the sunshine everyone!

hamncheese · 06/09/2012 11:21

Hey all. I really think over tiredness should be avoided at all costs. After being kept up and feeding every two hours whilst groaning very loudly all night on tuesday, last night (after a day where his wants we're not ignored) he slept for 6.5 hours straight again. Sleep breeds sleep is my motto now and my foot is going down with visitors... Unless he is awake and unfussy no holding. They can watch him feed or sleep.

Now to lighten up... What was the funniest part of your labour?

Mine was having had the epidural I'm lying on the bed and decide to move my leg a bit so I do but I move it too far and it falls off the edge of the bed. So I try to move it back on but I then realise I can only move it right not left due to epidural so end up having to say to the MW 'um can you put my leg on the bed for me?' Grin

WelshLadyCDF · 06/09/2012 12:57

ham mine was the tsunami when they broke my waters,
the midwife got soaked , I
said "sorry, i hope you have spare uniform", "yes she said , but not spare knickers!"

Loislane78 · 06/09/2012 14:06

He he welsh :)

Similar thing happened to me ham with the epi. One leg was more dumb than the other so I'd move and then realise the other was going nowhere and ended up in a few odd positions! Strange sensation.

So Infacol - does anyone think it's given their LO constipation? She normally poops after most feeds but didn't yesterday. Had an unsettled night with wind pains even after using it for a couple of days. Went to a baby clinic today and b-feeding counsellor says it doesn't work.... conflicting advice Confused

hamncheese · 06/09/2012 15:22

Ha ha that's a good one welsh

Infacol I don't know been using but now he burps easily even when I forget to give it. Going to gradually stop using and report back. However his improvement may be just him getting more robust!

MrGeresHamster · 06/09/2012 15:45

My embarrassing story is farting a suppository out whilst being stitched up! The midwife was too close for comfort and I suspect not so gentle when she put another one in... Grin

WelshLadyCDF · 06/09/2012 17:49

mrgeres ha ha Grin

Lovemarmite · 06/09/2012 17:58

Love your pessary story and your leg during the epidural!

Mine was when they were cleaning me up after the emcs and the only man on the operating team said 'here's your legs' as they lifted them up and over the curtain and I saw them totally outstretched in front of me but no feeling - but wow, they weren't puffy, I was quite proud!

Oh dear, today was milk and cuddles, and a few more maybe needed as the crying has started up and the fists are out. How can you get anything done?!
Can't wait to get into the sling when my tummy is more recovered.

hamncheese · 06/09/2012 18:47

Aha brilliant hamster Grin

Due date buds now floppy leg friends marmite :)

Keep the stories coming!

hamncheese · 06/09/2012 18:47

Ps where is ishop hope all is ok...

MrsMigginslovespies · 06/09/2012 21:34

Miserably, I hated my labour so have nowt funny to report except the only thing I used from all my many labour bags were a few haribo and some flipflops! But also had the wierd dead leg thing too. So odd! And I did think that I was glad I'd done my bikini line. Like they cared!!

tashaw28 · 06/09/2012 21:57

Mine was still asking for my epidural after her head was out!!!

Vino how are you getting to school in the mornings? Mine back 2 days already and we're struggling, I keep having to force feed her a bit to time it right?

Am soooooo tired, why can't I stop tidying the house and sleep when she sleeps in the morning?!!

Gingerelle · 07/09/2012 02:18

Hmmmm feels like non-stop feeding here this eve- massive hour-and-a-half from 10.30, another 20 at 12.30 and been going for another 30 mins now already. Endless...and I am soooo tired. I've got to start napping in the day but never seem to manage it.

Anyway could I pick all your brains about a few things?

  1. Bleeding....I'm 18 days post delivery now and fir last 2 days I've noticed a few small clots of blood. It's also quite bright blood still. Is this normal this many days on? Should I ask health visitor about it or get back in contact with midwives?

2 LO has a swollen right nipple....Internet says common for up to 4 weeks but she didn't have this from birth...anyone else got this going on?

  1. Any tips for sore nipples v v appreciated
Got lanolin gel which helps but when she first latches on it's still v painful, as is anything rubbing on my nipples (drying with a towel after showering is excrutisting)

Anyway hope u are all asleep!

G x

Happybunny12 · 07/09/2012 05:12

Hi ladies, hope all is good with you. I feel like a right prat tonight. I had an EMCS 3 weeks ago and had been doing super well with it, until the last few days. I noticed that one end of the scar had a visible knot from the end of the stitches which seemed to be pulling- I snipped off the knot and asked GP about it on monday, she said all was fine and just not to do much lifting, eg lifting car seat with baby in it. So I spent today... Lifting the car seat with the baby in it. Scar now inflamed and really sore- hurts more now than when I first had it. Prat. Back to GP tomorrow.

Anyone else had pain from CS scar? Any tips (beyond resting!)

Happybunny12 · 07/09/2012 05:16

Ginger, hope you managed some sleep! Can't help with 1 or 2, but for 3... Have you tried a cabbage leaf in your bra? Sounds wierd and old wives tale-y but I was recommended it for nipple pain, tried it and it seemed to help. One large leaf in each bra cup. Smells strange though! Keep cabbage in fridge and it's nice and cooling. HTH! Smile

WelshLadyCDF · 07/09/2012 06:40

gingerask either HIV or MW re bleeding, mine has almost stopped at three weeks but clots only st the beginning.

happy I think car seat and baby is too much to lift, my scar gets sore as LO kicks it if I feed her lying on my side, or if I wear trousers or knickers that sit on the scar.

ishop where art though?

WelshLadyCDF · 07/09/2012 06:42

Oops I meant HV.

MrGeresHamster · 07/09/2012 09:34

Gingerelle have you been doing more recently? I have found that after I go out for a walk or something the bleeding increases afterwards. I had one big clot which came in the first week straight after a walk. From what I've read though it can be stop/start.

With the nipple pain, is it a pain that happens just at the start just after baby has latched which then goes? I get a pain then and I've come to the conclusion it's the let down. Feels like strings being tightened. It goes quite quickly.

MrsMigginslovespies · 07/09/2012 09:39

Ginger, have you tried Lansinoh balm? It's excellent and really soothes. I'm feeding all the time and nipples are fine. But keep slapping it on, even pop a wee blob inside your nipple pads to ease any friction. And maybe take some paracetamol if v sore.
Re bleeding, I'm still getting blobs too, like a heavy period. I think normal and can last weeks afterwards but maybe ask if bright red as mine can get darker throughout the day.
Baby E wouldn't take bottle of expressed in his night feed at 0530 today which was odd. Any thoughts? Happily breastfeeding now though.
Totally share others' dilemmas about not getting time to rest during day. I find v difficult too when the Mums visit as they're not especially restful company! I find it really hard to plan anything and I worry that I'll never shop/walk dog/ have a nice long shower again! Hope you're having nice mornings so far x

Whiteangel · 07/09/2012 09:52

Be careful with cabbage, I'd read that is used to dry up milk supply. I find breast pads help to stop my bra rubbing. Also being strict and making sure I unlatch him if he is not on properly. Time seems to be the best thing for healing them.

capecath · 07/09/2012 10:08

ginger breastmilk is a really good moisturiser. When finished feeding don't dry your nipples but try leaving them to air dry (if they're not hanging out in public!). Is it the kind-of external pain that stings when they latch then goes away once they get going? Do you have little blisters on your nipple? I had this but it does go away so persevere!! It can be a latching issue but I think for us it was just my nipples toughening up. Seems to be ok now. Also use Lansinoh.
Bleeding only just stopping for us after 3 weeks, but any clots you should def mention to your hv. Apparently can also get heavier when you're feeding so not sure if that correlates for you.

ham funny moments hmm. Well they're not particularly funny, but do make me smile anyway! I do remember them giving me back my gas and air and clinging on to it for dear life - no one was getting it away from me! eating 5 pieces of toast and 2 litres of water after birth, the midwife commenting she was coming in to clean up a "hanibal hector scene" with all the blood loss oh dear...

Quite excited about mom just arriving for 2 weeks - she is doing lots of looking after 2yo DS1 so I can catch up on sleep!

The3Bears · 07/09/2012 12:07

Hi, sounds like everyones enjoying their LO's :)

Ive just had Noah weighed by HV and he's now 9lb 11oz Shock he's 22 days old today, HV was very pleased and so was I as I have been worrying as he doesnt seem to feed for long at all now and when I offer other side he turns away. So feel abit more at ease with bf now I know he's putting on weight.
Were also co sleeping here as Noah will not stay settled in the cot so just having him next to me is helping lots especially with bf aswell, On Tuesday night I fed him at 12.30 and he didnt wake until 6am Shock I couldnt believe it, that was a one off though and he's been making up for it now :)
ham my funniest moment was me asking the midwife to help pull him out Grin she was saying that with waterbirths they just leave you to it and let everything happen naturally, after being on gas and air I kept saying "please can you help to pull him out though" nice we can laugh about labour now :) oh also having to climb out of the birthing pool with mw helping me and holding onto the clamp holding the umbilical cord still attached to me, was very odd felt as if I had a tail.

ginger I would ask hv about bleeding just to be sure, but second what others have said about not doing too much when I did alot I would bleed more but at 22 days post birth mine has very nearly stopped now.
Also second what others have said about Lansinoh it realy is great for sore nipples.

Has anyone who is ebf introduced a bottle yet? I expressed 4 oz the other day and froze it as I dont want to confuse LO if it's to early he is 22 days now so was thinking of trying next week but not too fussed anyway as dont mind bf just thought it would be nice for dp to give LO a bottle from time to time.

Hope everyone is well and has a lovely day x
