Tried to post on the original thread and my post got rejected as its full! Have copied and pasted below....

Congrats on the job offer ttl...hope the other one comes up trumps for you too.

Dd isn't quite crawling yet, but would very much like to. She is the queen of the Klingons at the moment, and has a meltdown the second I put her down, look in the opposite direction, or if someone else so much as looks at her. Not all the time thankfully, but definitely for part of every day.

On the bf thing, it's so personal.....I've just dropped doing the afternoon feed myself be cause dd is so distractible that she bobs on and off, which I don't like around other people, and now she finally has teeth the constant latch on/off was really hurting. I just bf once a day, our morning snuggle when she's nice and calm. I would be sad to give that one up just yet.

Hi thanks for your advice Wing. Speaking of sleep, DS us having a very fussy night this evening and has decided to not want to go to sleep for the past 3 hrs Hmm. He is obviously over tired now and even more agitated and fighting sleep. His eyelids are so heavy but he's determined to keep them open! DH & I are exhausted and I'm just expecting the night coming up to be just as exhausting. Oh well, he is just a little baby after all and he doesn't know any better Smile.

Hope u enjoyed the Lakes Wing, sounds super lovely!

My parents are visiting from interstate and has been lovely having mum help out with meals etc. they are loving being new grandparents too Smile

How is everyone else doing?

StuckOnARollercoaster · 21/07/2013 15:26

Feeling good here in Manchester because we have sleep progress - 5 1/2 hours last night, and some good sleeping either side of that stretch.

Life is just so different - all about learning about this little one, particularly for me as she's first child and I have zero experience of looking after/being around babies. Last week I think we cracked the issue of breastfeeding - feel like she's latching on properly virtually every feed now and that she's actually swallowing milk, not just sucking on me.

Latest thing is sleep - I have realised that I do not have a grumpy crying baby, what I have is an overtired and overstimulated baby who needs more sleep than she's been getting. Fingers crossed we have some progress over next few days if I am on the right track with this idea. (Not original idea, I've been thumbing a baby book and trying some of the ideas in there!)

Enjoy your parents pineapple - its lovely when they help and are so happy about their grandchildren. My in laws come back from holiday on Wednesday and I wouldn't be surprised if grandma is at our house before her own!!! (we live on same street!)

Waves my other half is always on that we should go to Abersoch - he grew up in Wales and we keep intending to go, but never seem to make it. We tried to go when I was pg but just was too tired. Not keen on going in peak season, but will see what September brings...

Child so right about both the weeks flying by! No wonder people say the first 6 or even 12 weeks are both tough and a blur.

guinea I hope Eleanor is now fully recovered - its a reminder that I should get prepared and buy a baby thermometer, because there will come a point when every baby is a bit poorly...

tired the beach sounds lovely but also probably hectic in this heat - we've been hiding in the cold side of the house most days and if we have to go out both me and Daisy become hot, sticky and grumpy. Its actually cool today and its so nice to not stick to the sofa! Leather is great for wipeability but would be no good in a hot climate!

Well that's a long enough essay from me - hope you and your babies are all well and have a good week...

Pineapple80 · 22/07/2013 11:08

Hi Stuck that is great to hear your DD is sleeping so well. And sous alike you're learning lots about sleep and feeding too, wonderful! I'm a first time mum as well and have found googling parenting advice a bit overwhelming - too many conflicting views!! I have now taken to reading books and currently reading No Cry Sleep Solution, which I am really liking and understanding so far.

DS is only sleeping 1.5-2hrs lately. I'm not too worried yet, and know that it's normal for some babies at 5 wks old. I'll let him lead the way and ill try my best hopefully things will be ok!

I think I have a blocked milk duct. Have a couple or largish lumpy bits under my boob which are a bit sore & red and nipple pain when DS feeds. It seems to go down a bit after a good long feed on that side. I'm scared its mastitis but am feeling fine at the moment. I may call the BF helpline tomorrow to ask for advice. I also have my 6 week checkup for DS and I on Friday so will get my Dr to take a look.

WingDefence · 22/07/2013 16:56

How's the boob, pineapple?

I was feeding DD at 3am this morning (it's been slightly cooler at night but she still isn't sleeping through) and I thought to myself I reallymust sort this sleeping thing out. Trouble is, I don't know if I can ask DH to get up and try to soothe her as he hasn't had to now for 16 weeks and it's still so much quicker to just give her a 5-6 min feed. The trouble is, often after that first fee she only then goes 2-3 hours before waking again and I give her a quick probably-not-needed feed again. There seems to be zero pattern to her feeds at the moment Hmm Come back sleeping through!

What worries me is that friends of ours have a 2.5 yo who has been awful at sleeping the whole time and they have had to resort to putting a stair gate across his bedroom door to keep him from leaving his room at night. But he just calls for his mum instead (lovely boy otherwise). Apparently he was sleeping through until 4 months and then they went on holiday, like we've just done, and it screwed it all up. I sooooooo hope the same hasn't happened to us :(

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 23/07/2013 21:23

Hope the boob is feeling better Pineapple. Try and massage the lumps the next few feeds to keep the milk moving. Have you been engorged recently?

Wing 4 months is a well-known feeding/sleeping nightmare - babies do a massive growth spurt and developmental leap around now. Take heart, this too will pass!

Eleanor is back to normal now thankfully. She was 3 months yesterday Smile . Seeing Kate and William holding their brand new baby made me broody for a newborn even though my baby is still enormous for a 13 week old dinky!

MrsBri I noticed you're going to a Pampered Chef evening soon - I am a PC consultant so if you have any Qs feel free to ask.

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 23/07/2013 21:26

p.s. Stuck its taken me 6.5 years and three children to get a proper thermometer!

StuckOnARollercoaster · 23/07/2013 22:04

This is so not like me but I have just blubbed watching Kate & William take their new baby home. It was only 5 weeks ago, but taking Daisy home was such an amazing feeling and it brought it all home!
I didn't realise the emotional crying was going to continue after pregnancy and into motherhood!
Is it going to last forever now, or when do I go back to being a hardnosed cynic?

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 24/07/2013 00:07

I cried at my son's assembly this morning when ANOTHER person's child got a special award. I also welled up whilst saying thank you to his teachers. I have always been quite emotional but I'm a nightmare now. You'll probably redevelop your hardened cynical self with somethings but expect happy/sad things related to children to turn you in to an emotional mess! Parenthood has even made my cynical OH into a sensitive sausage when it comes to kids stuff and he doesn't even like children (except his own, obviously!) Grin

WingDefence · 24/07/2013 11:41

I also welled up when the baby finally appeared! Had to keep it from DH though as he's not a royalist at all and was already moaning that we'd spent hours watching a door on TV! Grin

Thanks for the reassurance Guinea. I'd forgotten about the 4 month stage and I've not been on the March 2013 thread for a few weeks so haven't been reminded! She's done a bit better the last two nights - till 5:45am on Mon (although DH said I slept through her squawking at 4ish) and last night she woke and squawked at 4 but I ignored her and she went back to sleep till 5 when I fed her. Makes me feel more human.

This past week I've really noticed how much interest she is now showing to toys which is fab. She still smiles a lot but getting her to laugh is very hard work and probably only happens every couple of days. She gives us lots of silent wide smiles which look like she's laughing but no noise! Funny little thing :)

DS's last day at preschool today. I am going to try not to blub when I pick him up later! He'll be going back there for after school club once he's at school in September (though I may wait until after the first half term so I can get him settled in and do the all-important pick ups while I'm still on mat leave) so won't be leaving completely.

Has anyone been watching wavesandsmiles threads in Relationships? It looks like she's finally in labour after everything she's gone through with the vomiting, marriage breaking up etc. What a strong woman.

Pineapple80 · 25/07/2013 09:11

It was lovely seeing Prince George being introduced wasn't it? Smile

Thanks, my boob a lot better now! I made sure I tried to empty it when feeding and along with massage & heat packs. The reddened patch on it has also subsided. Phew!! Was fearing mastitis, but looks like I'm ok for now.

Wing, yes I did see Waves posts. Indeed a strong woman. Looks like she is back home but fingers crossed for her. I hope your DD sleeps improve with time. Can imagine a change in environment like a holiday could alter progress. All new to me this baby sleeping business! It's nice to chat about it here though with all of you.

Hope you're all doing well this week. Having a nice time with my parents who are visiting. My mum has been wonderful & been cooking and helping out a lot. Dad on the other hand I suspect is a little bored! I guess thy might have forgotten how much newborns sleep! Grin

MrsBri · 25/07/2013 11:24

Hi all!

Sorry I've been AWOL, but life is pretty hectic with a newborn, despite the amount of sleeping they do. Odd really!

Amy has an eye infection so we initially had eye drops which didn't shift it, so we now have antibiotics as well. They're meant to be syringed in on an empty stomach, neither of which is practical, so we mix it with a little milk and give it as a starter, which works better.

Had I said I'm FF now? She was losing weight despite feeding loads, so we swapped after 2 weeks for her sake and mine as I was really struggling mentally with the amount of feeding and lack of sleep. We're both much happier now.

She also has reflux so we have Gaviscon for that.

We are getting to a vague pattern, though no sleeping through yet. Wonder when that may happen?!

We're off to a sling library later. Should be good :-)

Amy was 10lbs 13oz and 56cm on Tuesday, so is thriving now. That's a 12oz increase on the week before :-)

It's great to read how you're all getting on. Sorry I'm not replying to individual posts. Not easy on my phone with a baby limpet attached!

MrsBri · 25/07/2013 11:40

Oh, and that's great re Waves. She's amazing, utterly brilliant. I'd never have coped in her position (I've not managed to find her thread though, sadly).

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 25/07/2013 23:51

Glad to hear there's been some sleep improvement Wing. I know what you mean about the wide, silent laugh type smiles, Eleanor does them too!

Glad you're being looked after by your parents Pineapple, its always good to be cooked for isn't it.

Sorry to hear about the breastfeeding MrsBri. Can I just ask - was she checked for tongue tie? If she was feeding frequently but not gaining weight it sounds as if she wasn't transferring milk well and one of the causes if this is is tongue tie (not always immediately obvious unless you know what to look for). It can also cause refluxy problems in both breast and bottle fed babies so might still be worth getting checked out?

School holidays have started for us so been a busy few days. Going to a farm tomorrow with a big adventure playground so that should wear them out be fun. Hope you all have a good weekend. Smile

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 25/07/2013 23:58

p.s. this is an article that explains what I was talking about re tongue tie.

Eleanor had a posterior tongue tie release done when she was 8 weeks old and the difference in feeding and weight gain was amazing.

ICompletelyKnowAboutGuineaPigs · 26/07/2013 00:12

P.p.s this is an article about reflux from the same person. Hope they are of some interest/use.

MrsBri · 26/07/2013 07:14

Hmmm, no, nobody has checked that.

I'll mention it at the 6 week check, thank you. You'd think somebody may have clicked / considered it, wouldn't you?

WingDefence · 26/07/2013 10:40

Poor Amy MrsBri!

We were in Southport at SplashWorld yesterday (church trip) and then we went to Formby beach in the afternoon where we had glorious weather. We're back to Southport tomorrow for my niece's birthday. Wow, does that mean it was a year since we had a discussion about Southport on the JSing thread? I think your friend's daughter had had a birthday party the same day and we wondered if I'd been to the same one (but not)! Grin

If you're around tomorrow perhaps we could pop in for 15 mins just to say hi and introduce the DDs...?!

DD woke at 3am last night but I didn't go into her room and she went back to sleep after 1-2 mins and went through till 5:20. All on the right track - I know she can do it!

That sounds like a great place to visit Guinea. I've got the HV coming round in about an hour as she's not seen DD for a couple of months and then I'm taking DS to a playdate this afternoon.

Love to everyone else Brew

WingDefence · 26/07/2013 10:43

Oh and it'll be a year tomorrow that I got my BFP! I can remember everything I did this week last year (Splashworld in Blackpool, going to a friends house) as I remember every time I went to the loo thinking 'hmm this ERTD isn't quite right'.

Then I decided before watching the Olympics opening ceremony to use an IC test on the Saturday morning and ta dah! Here is my beautiful, gorgeous, snuggly DD. Aaaaahhh memories!

Pineapple80 · 26/07/2013 11:53

MrsBri - hope Amy's eye clears up soon, poor bubba. Glad you're both doing better with the feeding now. Well done Amy on the weight gains!! That's fantastic! My DS finally made it to 8lb last week Grin, he is feeling so much heavier these days too!

Wing - wow, a year since your BFP! Now that I think about it my 1 yr is only 3 months away, crazy how time passes. And still amazes me looking at DS too, cant believe we made this little nugget!Smile

I hope everyone else is well? How is the weather? Hoping it has eases up and more comfortable for you all.

DS is 6 weeks today! His sleep has been quite good for the past couple days. Even stretched it out to 3 hrs a few times, which is a nice change from 1.5 hrs. I know it can change a lot though and I find it easier to just to accept we'll have some bad sleeps sometimes rather than focus too much on what we would prefer!

Have a lovely Friday all Smile

MrsBri · 26/07/2013 13:58

8lbs, Pineapple? My baby has never weighed that little. Crazy, isn't it?! Great weight gain for him though.

And yes, that year has flown past, Wing.

We should be about, though I'm waiting on appointments to view houses. I'll PM you my address and mobile number through Facebook as it is easier than on here!

Can't wait to meet you and Faith finally! :-)

WingDefence · 26/07/2013 21:02

Aha MrsBri now I geddit. Are you hoping to buy somewhere? I can say it'll be the morning, between 10:30-11 if that's okay? I'll FB message you :)
Ooh, meet up!! Grin

Pineapple, 3 hours is great! My nan said to my mum, who passed it onto me, that when you have a baby, after a good night's sleep you feel ready to face the world again! I know it's only 3 hours but it'll get longer and longer until he's sleeping through in time I'm sure. Brew

MrsBri · 27/07/2013 02:19

That's fine :-)

We wouldn't go viewing that early anyway as the agent does his viewings after lunch.

And no, just renting again. Hopefully somewhere better maintained with landlords who aren't tight!

wavesandsmiles · 28/07/2013 21:48

Hello all. Just a quick hi as I've graduated myself to mummy again status. Little Caspian arrived yesterday afternoon and is currently feeding like a pro before we hopefully have a good sleep. He arrived at 1707 and we were back home by 10pm which was fantastic for my DCs especially.

Hard to use phone whilst feeding a hungry day old so will leave it there Smile

Pineapple80 · 29/07/2013 09:26

Yay welcome Waves Smile x

WingDefence · 29/07/2013 13:08

Hurrah waves is back on the scene! I hope you're having a very relaxing day today. It's hard to say 'sleep with he sleeps' with two others though but don't forget to ask them to help you out where they can x
