Bee she doesn't have completely dry nights, I just noticed that sometimes her nappy is dry. She has a big cup of milk at bed time but not two pints (maybe 1?) and she is still in her cot. I'm leaving a nappy on her until she is in her own bed and until she's mastered pulling her trousers down by herself. She is still a bit young to do that. She is very good at telling me when she needs a wee and a poo, and holding on until we get there! It sounds like your DC is doing really well. The HV told me not to worry about dry nights until she is 7 Hmm.

IC it sounds like your DD gets the potty concept which is brilliant. If DD hadn't been so interested, I probably would have waited until the summer time. I got DD some really good and funny books from our local library about new siblings (fx I might get pg some day!). "Little Rabbit's New Baby" by Harry Horse and another one with hilarious Quentin Blake style illustrations about a new baby called Walter (will try and look out for it next time we're at the library).

BC that is such good news about your mum. Phew! You must be so relieved.

Stan I try not to watch telly but Homeland is really good! I hope your DD is okay.

Sorry to be rude, but I feel like utter CRAP. My whole face hurts from sinusitis. Fed up. Also woke up with a bad neck. Anything else? Right off to eat and go to bed.

Waves to everyone and sends happy sleepy vibes to all those babies!

BeeMyBaby · 16/04/2012 20:40

Another homeland addict here, although DH feels the need to critique the ginger actor's prayer technique each episode.

Abs How long does your DD sleep at night? Any nap/sleep over 3 hours results in definite wetness here, although DD1 can pull down/up her trousers herself and wonders around playgroup with her trousers down if she really needs the loo no idea when she will be able to clean herself though as she has to wash with water after poos.

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 16/04/2012 21:33

Gah..bloody irritating neighbour has complained horribly in writing about our fantastic new climbing frame! Planning people here we come...

Abs sorry you're still poorly but fab news about the potty training. DS1 is still absolutely sodden at night and he was 4 a couple of weeks ago. He doesn't even drink that much before bed, just sleeps heavily. I'm not worrying about it at the mo.

Thanks IC for the tips re sibling rivalry. I'm so keen to help them to get on if poss as my brothers were quite mean to me with my mum's help Sad.

Good news on your mum BC and sounds like a lovely outing.

DS2 had his first day at nursery today. He clung to the car seat as I prised him out screaming but then stopped once I took him into his room and I left him exploring happily! He was then fine all day, so a great start.

Off to watch Scott and Bailey with DH from last night. Sorry to be a bit short!

AbsB · 16/04/2012 21:34

She usually goes down at about 7.15pm and wakes at around 6.45 but I don't go in until 7. She often wakes in the night as she's had a really snotty cold/cough and is teething. I often take her to bed at around 4 or 5 as I'm so knackered and she is so bloody determined that I can't be bothered to argue with her!!! Her naps usually last between 90 minutes and two hours. All this is hypothetical as I never really know how long she is going to sleep! I do rush to her cot when I hear her shouting "Weewee, weewee" or "Mummy, where are you? I need the potty!" I love the idea of your DD walking around with her trousers down at playgroup. I can imagine teaching her to wash with water after a poo might be a challenge. DD sometimes tears off some loo paper but it's either the size of a pea or an Andrex puppy impersonation, no moderation there at all!

Stangirl · 17/04/2012 11:57

Abs hope you feel better soon. That sounds rubbish.

Seeing as there's a few Homeland viewers on here I shall share my Damien Lewis anecdote. My Mum is a big fan of his - for years - and so a few years back I bought tickets for her birthday to go and see him in a play. After it was over he came to the bar and I encouraged her to go and get her programme signed. She became all bashful and so I did it instead. He was a lovely fella and we had quite a chat, at one point I turned round to introduce my Mum and found she had disappeared. I found her later hiding behind a pillar out of "embarrassment". She then accused me of flirting with him (fair cop).

Survival I hope DS2 continues to enjoy nursery - my daughter loves it.

DD did some spectacular voms this morning but seems fine now. Shame though as we were due to go with her Dad on his work trip to Whitstable and spend the afternoon there but after her sickness we decided long car journeys were out. So I've had ITNG and Waybuloo on a loop with an occasional Doctor Who for me. I might try and sneak a Sherlock on next.

BeeMyBaby · 17/04/2012 13:23

Abs too funny re the loo paper, I fear school days when there will be no option to wash with water and I will have to wash poo streaked pants.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 17/04/2012 13:31

Bah, bummer about the neighbours complaining, bethy Sad
If I come across any good recommendations of books about parenting siblings, I'll share (I'll probably search some out for myself before too much longer...!!)

Love the Damien Lewis anecdote, Stan!!
I hope your DD gets over her bug soonest - and doesn't share it with the rest of the family.

Abs I hope your sinuses are giving you a break. Argh.

I started a thread about music by women in the FWR section a month or two back, including lots of links to tracks. If anyone's interested in checking it out, the thread is here - there's a huge diversity of suggestions, but I'm always looking for more!!

StoneBaby · 17/04/2012 17:45

abs poor you

Hi stan

survival what ashame your neighbours are complaining.

I must be mad, i've posted on our local FB baby group to swap pull ups nappies! DS loves his Mater (Cars character) and only wants to wear this design, so I want to swap the Lightning McQueen (other design of which I have lot) for the Mater ones. Hmm Blush

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 17/04/2012 22:04

SB that's so funny!! We have those for DS1 at night but they irritate DS2's skin so he wears pampers with Bob the Builder on instead.

Stan et al.. will you be horribly disappointed in me if I tell you i have no idea what programme or which actor you are swooning over?!!Grin Bummer about the bug. Hope it is soon over and the rest of you are made of strong enough stuff to avoid it!

Abs DS2 has established that he can rouse us from our bed earlier at the weekend by shouting, "Mummmmmmyyyy, I need weeeeee weeeeee!" than by any other of his cunning tactics (such as jumping over the rails of the cot, telling us he's got a hair in his mouth, losing his teddy, needing a snack - the boy has tried them all!!)

IC do get researching more books please!!Grin

Bee don't fret about the wiping etc.. having a slightly older one (and a boy at that!) has taught me that they do get there with all these things. I think parents can leave things quite late, but DS1 naturally started wanting to wipe himself at about 2.9 -3.0 years and managed pretty well. I still check every now and then as he gets sore if he gets it wrong. (And two weeks ago he decided to wipe with a huge piece of cling film he had randomly found-and then left it proruding from between his cheeks for my amusement! WTF?!!)

Off to email the planners re the climbing frmae. Wrote back to the neighbour last night so I'm enjoying writing official letters on a nightly basis - not!

StoneBaby · 18/04/2012 09:33

Doing a training session this morning. When booked I was told there'll be between 20 to 25 people, when list of names was sent to me yesterday there was 8 people. Only 5 persons turned up! I'm well cross as I did it to help as there was apparently such a backlog. Next time I won't bother.

But the good news is that there's free wifi at the training centre Grin

SocietyClowns · 18/04/2012 16:06

I can't keep up with you lot Sad. Back in the Uk with two weeks worth of posts to read.... Shock

dh asked this morning whether dd2 has had a haircut (only a minor one to correct the mess I made of her fringe) because he thought she looked like a different child. I also think she looks more grown up but for him it must have been really noticable.

She now thinks it is very funny to see her mummy run (she has a point!) and her latest trick is to bolt without warning. Last week she ran out of a shop, around the corner and I just about caught her before she got to the parked cars with busy road behind them. It gave me a bit of a reality check because it could have ended very badly. At the airport she was very firmly in her littlelife rucksack with lead, which is not ideal. It's perfect to keep her close but if she decides to dash off it does rather cut into her throat to hold her back... I have also on occasion used a wrist harness. Wish I'd had one on me having to take trains with two children, a large suitcase and heavy hand luggage and a 2 year old determined to run and try to fall head first onto the rails...

I am on my third washing machine load and have done a mega shop to buy interesting things like fruit and vegetables (!). Judging by the empty fridge and untouched cupboard stuff dh has lived on porridge and beans on toast while we were away Wink.
dd2 has gone on hunger strike today and thought this morning that UK bread is quite an insult (after two weeks of European bread I tend to agree with her).

Skim reading a few posts, wow on those of our Feb10 'babies' fully out of nappies. dd2 has no idea. I'll see how things go this summer if (a big 'if' if Easter is anything to go by) the weather turns warm enough to let her run around semi naked.

Waving at everyone... will try to read through posts in the next few days.

Stangirl · 18/04/2012 16:17

Soc my DD isn't out of nappies yet. She does like to be naked most of the time though and can fully undress herself. I'm going to wait until my 2 long haul flights are out of the way in May.

IC I had a quick skim through your thread - some good stuff there. I'm no good at links but would add any of the Buffy Sainte Marie 60s stuff (she is part Native American and did a lot of protest songs, Codeine is particularly good as is Soldier Blue). Also Cannonball - The Breeders (best name for a female band evah!). In my student days I loved Closer to Fine by The Indigo Girls.

StoneBaby · 18/04/2012 18:42

soc welcome back.

stan where are you going?

Stangirl · 18/04/2012 18:56

SB California. PA has already graciously advised on things to do etc. It's gonna be 2 long flights, 2000 miles driving, 8 stopovers with 2 kids (one not walking). I might as well draw up the divorce papers now (not that we're married).

StoneBaby · 18/04/2012 21:02

stan stock up on alcohol Grin I'll be more worry about the flights than the car journeys as DS can stay still for more than 2 minutes so hopefully the onboard films, cartoons may help you.

I have just learnt that a friend is pregnant. They already have a 12 months old DD. and shellfishly I feel envious and sad as they're going to have a 2nd child Blush and we can't.

StoneBaby · 18/04/2012 21:03

Soory about the last part of my post but I needed to tell someone and DH would not understand.

SocietyClowns · 18/04/2012 21:07

SB hugs

InmaculadaConcepcion · 18/04/2012 21:28

Welcome back SC!
That sounds like no mean feat, travelling with your two on your own, I'm very impressed and not surprised DD2's bolting habit has resulted in grey hairs. Another MN friend was lamenting about having to use restraints on her toddler for the same reason, but if it's that or their safety..... and I guess she'll grow out of it before too long (hopefully..!)
We're still quite a way from any meaningful potty training just yet. I'll probably give it a proper go when the summer comes too.

Nice suggestions, Stan! Can't believe I haven't already suggested that one by The Breeders, they are rather ace (and The Throwing Muses as well). I must check out Buffy Sainte Marie too, I've heard the name but that's about as far as it goes. Feel free to go and suggest her on the thread, please!! Likewise anyone else, it's definitely not a closed shop and I'd love more people to join in!

Boo about the training day with so few takers, SB. Annoying when you've put the time and effort in to get it organised. (Had to arf about the pull-up swapping!)

They're not daft, are they Survival? WRT your DS2 shouting about needing a wee-wee to get out of his bed. I remember my niece sussing out that the toilets were at the top of the escalators in the department store me and my sister were shopping in one time and kept "needing a wee"....when in fact, what she really wanted was another ride on the escalator. My sister knew she was mostly faking, but had no choice but to take her up to the toilets in case she wasn't... little monkey Grin

SocietyClowns · 19/04/2012 15:39

dd2 asked for a glass of milk at breakfast today which totally threw me. This from the child who refused bottles from 1 year old and dropped milk as a drink shortly after... Just as well she wants to drink it now as after our holiday (with lovely fresh bread every morning) she has gone right off cereal.
I love the way they keep you on your toes with their preferences...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 19/04/2012 19:05

Ha ha, yes SC once in a while DD suddenly decides she wants milk as well (being in the same situation as your DD2) - she usually takes a few sips then leaves the rest.

SocietyClowns · 19/04/2012 22:28

The other new thing she did today (contrary to me saying she has no idea) was to drag her potty out of the wardrobe (where it normally lives) and sit on it.... AFTER she had filled her nappy! I realised that there was no point in reasoning with her, so she got her wish to sit on the potty for a bit with full nappy, then came to me beaming to tell me she had done a poo Hmm.

And after I'd just posted that she now likes to run off she obviously decided today that it was good to hold my hand walking through an open air museum (where she could have safely run around freely) the entire time we were there...

I am getting a little concerned that she may be reading my posts over my shoulder, just to be sure to contradict everything I say!
