Happy new year!

Sorry for the rubbish title but wanted to get the new thread underway. Let's close the door on some of the sad events of 2011 and look forward to a better year in 2012.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
spotofcheerfulness · 01/02/2012 10:30

Please can I ask the thread for lots of white light right now? My sis has been admitted to hospital at 24 wks pg as her waters broke last night. Something'll have to happen in the next 24 hours, but not looking good Sad.

Beans36 · 01/02/2012 11:27

Oh Spot - I'm so worried for her, you must be out of your mind. Am sending so much love and thoughts to her. Thinking of you all. X

Indith · 01/02/2012 11:43

Gosh Spot, hoping for the best x

Kayzr · 01/02/2012 11:44

Spot thinking of your sister and you too. Hope it all works out well xx

Rubena · 01/02/2012 12:54

Oh dear Spot. Wishing her the best.... Same thing just happened to a friend of mine @ 28 wks - all worked out. x

Nolda · 01/02/2012 13:53

Thinking of you and your sister, Spot. Hope everything will be OK.

JollyBear · 01/02/2012 14:33

Oh Spot that's awful. Your poor sister. Wishing her lots of white light xxx

VagolaJahooli · 01/02/2012 17:12

Sending strong lung building white light to the little bub. I had the same thing happen at the same stage to a friend in my preggars yoga class. They had time to give her the steroid injection to improve babys lungs and in the end it all worked out well. However, a lot of time was spent in hospital for bub. Does she live far from you? Big love to you both.

spotofcheerfulness · 01/02/2012 19:37

Thanks, all. She lives in Hertfordshire, Vag, about a couple of hours away. I wish I could go and see her but DP is in Amst and I doubt she'd appreciate the attentions of my boisterous scamps. Very little news today, she's in host for the foreseeable, all they can do is wait at this stage I think as her waters have gone. My very good friend had this same thing happen and lost her baby, and I guess the odds are v much stacked against it so I'm not allowing myself to be too hopeful.
Sorry for bringing the thread down. Please talk about more fun stuff!

Beans36 · 01/02/2012 19:53

Oh Spot, my darling. Keep positive. But being realistic is probably good. We'll hope for you xxxx

JollyBear · 01/02/2012 20:00

Bliss the premature baby charity have lots of info on their website Spot. Lots of info on what might happen medically, emotionally etc.

sybilfaulty · 01/02/2012 20:11

I am very sorry to read this Spot. Best wishes and positive thoughts to you all. Take care XXXX

Am really sorry to hear that spot. Thinking of you and sending lots of love.

VagolaJahooli · 02/02/2012 08:32

Shall I change the subject Spot, I know let's talk about the weather. What's it like where you all are? It's currently sunny and -7 here, which is in contrast to tomorrow which promises snow and -11. On the weekend my phone just has a picture of a thermometer no description of what the days weather will be, I'm thinking that's not a good sign.

JamInMyWellies · 02/02/2012 09:08

Tis baltic here too Vag.

SPot lot of love from here for you and your family.

Rubena · 02/02/2012 10:12

Gosh Spot. How worrying. There was a thread on here last year by a poster called (I think) SouthSeaRocks. Her waters broke before viability (maybe at 22 weeks) while on holiday in the States. She was kept on absolute bedrest in the US with her husband missing work for about 12 weeks before delivering a healthy little boy. I know the odds are scary but it can work out. Sending lots of White Light your way.

In lighter hearted news can I just say that nothing quite beats waking-up in bed next to your warm cuddly first born, who flickers open her big blue eyes, nuzzles her face into yours, looks adoringly up at you, and then says "Mummy, you have lost of little hairs round your lips. You like you are turning into a moustache man." Yep, that was my start to today.

Kayzr · 02/02/2012 13:17

Spot I hope your sister is doing ok today.

It is bleeding freezing. -3 this morning for the school run. I would like the snow to either come now and be gone by Monday so I can get to my scan or wait until after Wednesday so we can get to the zoo for DS2's trip with playgroup to see the penguins.

spotofcheerfulness · 02/02/2012 13:30

That's a pretty quality start to the day, Aubs Grin. What was your pithy early-morning comeback?

Thanks for the good thoughts, everyone (and for that reference to the other thread, aubs). It means a lot. I'll stop mentioning it until there is something conclusive to say, but for now, the baby is still there and they've given him a name (though I don't want to put it on here in for confidentiality). She's having lots of antibiotic and steroid injections, but is really missing her DD as it's the first time she's ever spent a night away from her. Her DH has to go back to work next week, so I think my mum and her MIL will come and stay with my niece.

Pretty chill here too, I'm getting round it by just staying in but know it can't carry on indefinitely. I suppose it'll snow soon and the boys will want to make snowmen . The positive side is that I'm making a lot of cakes, so we're all adding an extra layer of fat, thus increasing our resistance to the cold should we be required to leave the house in the next week or so.

Oh, and in other, unrelated news, T did a poo on the toilet for the first time yesterday. I think it's been my highlight so far this year (another reason to Get Out More).

Beans36 · 02/02/2012 16:36

Aubs - that made me laugh a lot. Ha! Only because I am a furry beast myself, both top lip and beard. I have to regularly pluck out the dark spiky ones. And hideously, I am now feeling spiky hard ones and when I go to pull them out, they're WHITE! GOOD GOD! And I have white pubes and eyebrow hairs and the lot. Sob.

It is bloody cold here. Went for a walk this afternoon and managed a whole 25 mins before the girls started going blue. Their winter kit is really very poor. DH has given the green light to buy them scarves and proper gloves tomorrow, but it's a bit late really. Next year, they won't have hand me down coats of 10 years + or Asda coats, but proper really warm ones from somewhere posh and expensive like Boden or John Lewis. Oh yes. I will push the boat out and have smart, cosy littles.

DH is insisting that we go on a cycling/running trip round Richmond on Saturday. It's due to be -2. Oh shit. DD1 is not going to be happy. I must try her in her old salopets and see if they still fit, then she might be a bit cosier. Poor little mite.

Beans36 · 02/02/2012 16:39

PS Spot - am still keeping everything crossed. And asked two friends to today as well.

Do you know what, DD1's best friend is actually quite a bully. I find it really hard not to intervene and tell her to feck off. She's only 3!!! I love her Mum, otherwise I don't think they'd be friends at all! She is just so mean to DD1. Hurts my heart.

ZuleikaJambiere · 02/02/2012 16:42

Spot sorry to hear your sister having a rough (to say the least) time, but I am relieved to hear she's still doing ok today, everyday is a big milestone. How old is your niece? Old enough to understand what is going on? I am thinking of them all and wish them the very best. Grand news about the poo!

Has J got over the sickness yet Jolly? Your MIL should get together with WG's and they could discuss the merits of a clean washing machine vs an empty crumb tray and which is more vital to the smooth running of the world Grin

Has DD2 dropped her nap Beans, or was it a phase? Hope it's back, for your sake. Hurrah for fun weekends and smugness!

Not long til the interview Indith. Do you have a lot to prepare for it, or is it more of a case of just wanting to meet you in person and all the work/impressing them was done in the application?

Think I'm living in the best part of the world, not got lower than +1 C all week, tropical compared to the rest of you! We've had a tiny snow flurry this afternoon, briefly, but it didn't settle, so nothing exciting to report. DD will be gutted, she keeps waving her fairy wand to magic some snow, because she wants to build a snowman who will fly with her, just like The Snowman

On the saga of DHs trip to the Netherlands, he came home last Friday night and told me I look like a particular variety of swede, one that "blooms and bulks up and looks beautifully ripe, but has no staying power and needs harvesting immediately", in contrast to another variety that can apparently sit in the field for weeks without coming to any harm. (Apparently this was a complement, as the first variety is far superior, as long as it is harvested at exactly the right time Hmm). On this basis (and nothing to do with the fact that he is maybe scared of the threat of Vaj), he came to his senses and flew out yesterday and is flying back tonight, rather than taking the ferry, and it was all for nothing as I'm still here!

My drama today was a phone call first thing from the hairdressers to say they had to cancel my cut and colour as they had double booked me and were short staffed, and "as they know my baby is due soon they can offer me an alternative in just 2 weeks". I was flipping cross, there should be laws against denying a hormonal women her haircut! So I took my life in my hands (I am very, very loyal to my hairdresser and don't change without some serious research first, I am too scared of the possible consequences) and walked into another salon, who managed to fit me in - hurrah, the world is a good place again now I've had my hair done Grin

Beans36 · 02/02/2012 16:49

ZJ - DD2 has indeed given up her nap, unless I catch her in the car at the right moment. But that is also true of DD1, so all a bit disappointing. She's even given up at nursery, where she's usually exhausted. Sob.

Am so glad that DH has come to his senses. When I was due on 7th Dec with DD1, I was positively encouraging DH to go to a wedding in SA on 29th Nov and make a bit of a holiday of it as it was going to be his last opportunity. Bear in mind that both my sisters and my Mum were about 17 days late with their first, so I assumed I had ages to wait. HE refused to go, thankfully, as she arrived on 6th!!!

Can't believe they had the temerity to cancel your hairdo over someone else - how rude! The week before my wedding, the girl I'd had my practice updo with decided to go on holiday. I nearly wet my pants. Luckily someone better had to do it in the end and I had a practice the DAY before our wedding. Ouch! Scary!

Wow, I'm wittering. Think because the little birds are happily playing together. Well, DD2 is ripping pages out of DD1's princess album. Am delighted as I hate that sort of thing.

Kayzr · 02/02/2012 17:27

Beans and ZJ On my WEDDING day to XH I turned up at the hairdressers to be told the girl doing my hair had left. Not only left but taken the wedding book with her with the picture of the hair I wanted and pics from my trial.

I cried for about 20 minutes before letting them do something else.

It can't happen twice can it???

VagolaJahooli · 02/02/2012 19:46

Aubs sorry but that is really funny.

Zj that is so sweet about the snowman, and I'm glad dh changed his mind I would have felt bad harming him, although his description of you made me not mind harming him too much.

Beans I have white pubes too. Sad to hear about the bullying, ds1's little friend in uk was a bully too, but he doesn't seem effected by it, I think most important is she knows to talk to you if it is bothering her.

Spot snow is too hard, maybe this year will be easier because ds2 is bigger and we live directlycrcross from school.

Looks like it might snow here over the weekend here, think we will be laying low.
