they seem to have changed them a lot just been on the hipp website! For DD2 for breaky i make baby rice up with breastmilk and then add a couple of teaspoons of fruit puree.

katzglitterytree · 01/12/2005 20:16

yeah found it this is what DD1 had for breaky until she was 1.

banana porriage

no added sugar just the natural stuff in bananas

sfxmum · 01/12/2005 20:19

thanks katz thats what i do atm for dd, but i wnted to move on from baby rice mostly to have other option but i think i will stick to rice fruit and ebm.

festive name festive name... sometimes i even forget my own, as does the HV why on earth does she call me mummy- sorry mini rant

katzglitterytree · 01/12/2005 20:22

they used to do an apricot one too

ooo hang on i've got a reciepe in my organix baby book let me go get it and post it

Skyler · 01/12/2005 20:22

SFX - I used porridge with fruit puree added for dd1. Annabel Karmel had a recipe with dried apricots or prunes I think. I think I used to puree it to start with or add extra milk. I just used Tescos Scottish porridge oats. I do remember giving baby rice with puree as a 'breakfast cereal' too. Now she obviously has the same batch of porridge I cook for me in the mornings which is nice and easy. I will dig out the book and see what it says about porridge.

Fruity Porridges (makes 2-3 servings for 4 month old, 1 serving for 7month old)

Banana
1/2tbsp oats
150ml water
1 small ripe banana
2 tsp sultanans

Prune and Apple
1/2tbsp oats
150ml water
1 small apple chopped
4 dried prunes finely chopped

Apricot
1/2tbsp oats
150ml water
2 small peeled fresh apricots or 5 dried apricots finely chopped
1/2tbp sultanas

Put all the ingredients in a small pan, cover and bring to the boil
reduce heat and simmer for about 5mins, stir occasionally
puree, add more water/milk if thinner consistency is required.

Will freeze.

Oooh x-posted with Kat.
Annabel Karmel does say to puree the porridge. Now I have read the recipe I remember cooking this lot up and freezing it for her.
Porridge with apple juice, apple, pear and prunes and water or
Porridge with dried apricots, baby's usual milk and a pear.
Both really yummy!!
Porridge is fab for long lasting energy (complx carbs) and rich in soluble fibre that protects intestinal surfaces and keeps cholesterol down apparently. I am remembering how much I LOVE this book now!

katzglitterytree · 01/12/2005 20:31

ahh don't know what happened then

Skyler · 01/12/2005 20:32

OK Katz, how come so quick!!!

katzglitterytree · 01/12/2005 20:34

think my computer has hic-ups!!

those recipes are from the DK planet organic baby and toddler cookery book, DH bought it and was soooo proud of himself!

we must nearly be in need of a new thread?

sfxmum · 01/12/2005 20:54

thanks again katz ans skyler all this while i had dinner!
must look in annabel book, had not noticed before, guess was just looking for extra fast solution, bad me since i always make my porridge from scratch, dont like instant unless emergency.

dd was extra lively today am completely worn out, she seems more aware of what is going on too.

strangely she stops dead for the weather forecast on telly.. must be those british genes.

baubleloo · 01/12/2005 20:57

Katz-Those recipes sound great! I give Ds Sunrise banana which is by Heinz. He really loves it,but it does have added sugar.Twice a week I give him a whole banana mashed up with his formula and that also goes down a treat.
Was thinking of giving him Ready Brek in a few weeks.Annabel Karmel mentioned it in her book, and I remember loving it myself when I was young.
He has 4 different veg for lunch, then Fruit for his tea.He eats anything I give him(except jars)and has a nice appetite which is good.
I'm really looking forward to giving him other things and finger foods. Not looking forward to the mess though-lol!

Skyler-The christmas market sounds lovely.I wish they did something like that near me.We get a big float with father christmas and his sleigh coming down our road at the beginning of December.Lots of little elves knock on the door collecting money-it's all for the round table and makes it very christmassy.

Muma-Sorry to see you go.Like Skyler said, hope to see you around on other threads.Take care.x

SFX-It must be a HV thing.Mine does the same and if my mum is with me I assume she's talking to her.

Katz-A new thread would be great. So would broadband-it's taking me ages, lol!!

Hi Sfx! yes, I started giving oats to DD from 6months. In the US they make instant oats just like the rice cereal, which is really convenient. But all my baby books says that you just need to puree the porridge to make sure there are no big lumps in the beginning, you might want to cook a bit longer too... Once they reach 6 months though, you can slowly start offering lumpier stuff... So soon you guys can share the same stuff!

Muma - sorry you are leaving, come back whenever you feel like it!

Skyler - I think your friend is absolutely right! Any husband that is lucky enough to have a loving wife and mother holding the fort for him, ows her a big time!!!

So...Giddy... "rogue" caller, eh? is that how you explained to your DH?
just kidding - I saw your other thread and was stuppefied to learn that trojan virus can place calls for you! I etter lock calls from my numer too! MN always teach me something new everyday!

katzglitterytree · 01/12/2005 21:02
