I totally agree with dp's having their own changing bag. DH done this and it taught him early on to be in charge of what is needed and make him think in advance. Us humans are lazy and if someone else is going to do the work and thinking, we let them. However sometimes all you have to do is ask someone to do something, and they will happily. But they would never have thought to offer the help. DH always offers help, but I have to tell him what to do.

I also have a dh who refuses to cough/sneeze/blow his nose quietly frakk, it drives me round the bloody bend Hmm

Good luck for tonight jks

daisylulu · 23/05/2011 20:05

Thanks for making me feel so welcome.

lucieloo thanks so much for that link. Has made me feel soooooo much better. Gonna do my best to relax and have faith that she will grow out of it.

Love the idea of getting DH his own changing bag!

Hope everyone has a restful evening and gets some sleep.

My DD seems to have bad wind. Anyone know if you can use infacol and gripe water at same time? She's not quite one month so can't use gripe water just yet but getting prepared....! Thanks

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 23/05/2011 21:23

daisy - we have had some success with Dentinox colic drops, which are ok to use from birth.

Can I enter the 'doing the double' round of the nappy Olympics please? I have taken to changing the boys in tandem otherwise I feel like I do nothing but change nappies all day. It is very cute actually, they lie on my bed on a big towel side-by-side and hold hands Grin

kittycatcat · 23/05/2011 21:44

Welcome daisy

Bless Ali

Nappy q! We got given loads so used huggies size 1 at first which were fab. Then pampers size two which leaked mKing his bum red. So bought pampers size 1. Two leaks today. Should I cut my losses and go huggies. They didn't have them in our local co op.

frakyouveryverymuch · 24/05/2011 06:58

kitty no advice on the nappies as I'm a cloth girl (come to the dark side Grin) but I'd stick with what works tbh. Are there any other brands you could get?

I have a new event for the Nappy Olympics - marathon pooing. I swear M pooed continuously for a good 30s. I was sure there wasn't anything left to come out but less than an hour later he'd done it again!

Really fab night last night (possibly due to cosleeping) but we went 11-3.30, quick snack which I barely woke for, then again til 5.49 with a proper feed while DH got up and shaved etc which meant he did the nappy change!) and back to sleep until 7.30!!! And now we're napping again, albeit on my chest this time. AND he spent 5 minutes in his carrycot quietly while I put the nappies out to bleach and 10 minutes in his bouncy chair while I did washing up :)

Today I need to call up the BF clinic and also arrange to see my neighbour who had her baby Sunday. If you'd had a 36hour labour what would you want someone to get you? I've got something for baby and some L'Occitanne hand stuff but I think the poor girl needs a little something extra.

lucielooo · 24/05/2011 07:15

So jealous of the quick snak frak, G has been feeding since 4.15 (screams silently into a pillow)

LisMcA · 24/05/2011 07:44

Frak CHOCOLATE that poor girl needs chocolate! Hand stuf is lovely too though, but my favourite visitors brought me chocolate and I didn't even have to push!!

B did 9-1.30 then woke 4 fed bum change with no "no nappy" incidents, back dow until 7.15 for dh to change and feed him before work to allow me to get a good pump!

AntiBs have kicked in. They are a wonder drug! I thought amputation was the only solution yesterday!

Has anyone else had the comments about how theor DC looks so much like the dad there is no way he could deny baby was his?? I get it all the time and beginning to wonder if they actually think there was a doubt!!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 24/05/2011 08:23

Lis - I think it is just something people say! We have it a lot with T, especially I think because DS1 looked nothing like DH as a baby, and in fact still doesn't - he really takes after my side of the family.

kitty - we use cloth here as well. I have to say that disposables are generally useless at containing new baby poo - especially if you are BFing (I can't remember if you are). But go with whatever works - no point in having poo everywhere and masses of extra laundry for the sake of a few quid IMO.

Our night started badly, we just could not get T off to sleep! It was gone 1am before he settled, and he'd been awake since 9pm!! DH and I were both just about insane from tiredness when he suddenly dropped off, and then slept until 6.30am.

T has his first jabs today - I cannot believe how quickly that has come round!! Shock

LisMcA · 24/05/2011 08:32

lucie we are using pampers size 1 and had a couple of spillages early one as they were a bit big for B, but now they are holding everything in. even poosplosions! I think different babies suit different nappies sometimes.

We were going to go to cloth, but I'm afraid to say I haven't got round to buying any yet Blush. And I probably won't now as we've spent all our money as DH likes the disposables.

Sassy20 · 24/05/2011 08:40

Lucie we are also using pampers size one and although a couple of poo escaping incidents (which are to be expected I guess) they've been good.

JustKeepSwimming · 24/05/2011 10:09

On phone so will be brief.

Re nappies- don't wait for baby to grow out. Of the size, if you check the next size up you'll see there is overlap. Bigger ones tend to go higher up so contain more. M is in size 3s, though admittedly a chunk :)

Have reusables must try to use soon!

Stupid comments when pg just change to stupid comments either about baby or you I find (ESP re weight loss).

kittycatcat · 24/05/2011 10:11

Thanks ladies. It's the wee that leaks so could be worse. I am breastfeeding. Just making sure I change him more often.

SarahJinx · 24/05/2011 10:54

Morning ladies

I'm just popping in to say hi, have been trying to keep up with April babies but it's bloody difficult!

Frak I was 36 hours start to finish, and on getting home I was so incredibly sore - episiotomy - that a rubber ring was all I really wanted! But I would say treats, sweeties, chocs, nice refreshing drinks, swanky biscuits maybe?

All is good here, Thomas is now a full 1lb1oz heavier than his birth weight 16 days ago, weighing in at 10lbs3 as of yesterday, he has a gunky eye and my stitches are open and infected - lovely. My little porker feeds like a dream though and we're slowly getting into a three/four hourly feeding routine through the night, am v v lucky, he's so hungry though that it's difficult to keep up with him sometimes late evening, he has an ounce of formula to top him up every few days or so if he needs it and the midwife that secretly advised me to do that deserves a medal!

anyway, hugs to all april ladies and babies x

chillikat · 24/05/2011 11:27

Morning all,

Ali M has her jabs today too - I'm expecting yelling, then grouchiness and possibly lots of comfort feeding later - is that about right? or maybe she'll be like me and give a "is that it?" look Hmm

Re nappies - we've been using a combination of cloth and disposables. Found huggies pretty useless at keeping anything in to be honest, pampers were very good and we're currently using Sainsbury's eco range size 1/2 which seem great (when put on properly) but we don't really expect anything to keep in poonami! Of the reusables I didn't find the all in one I got via the Bounty pack all that good, quite like the mothercare ones and we've also got other prefolds. We found they're better at holding wee when used without the paper liners.

Has anyone else been found to have a clicky hip? We've got a scan in June to check it, but DH and I can't see anything different between her hips/legs so hoping it's not too bad.

BeetleBaby · 24/05/2011 12:45

It looks like it's been busy on here! Glad I'm not the only one with a selectively deaf through the night DH. Mine redeemed himself on Sunday by buying a trifle for dessert Grin

Ali I love the His 'n' Hers changing bags, we'll be on a mission this weekend to find DH a bag of his own.

Lis I'm glad the antibiotics are kicking in. Mastitis is horrid, I've had it twice now and can't believe how quickly it can make you feel so crap!

Frakk Yes to chocolate!

JKS A friend commented that S has my eyes and DH ears... DH was insulted and I had to reassure him that S may have my eyes and colouring but he has his Daddy's expressions!

Weighed S at the BF clinic yesterday and he's now 10lbs 2, which means I really can't squish him into his newborn/first size stuff anymore! Time for a trip to Primarni as there isn't really anywhere else easy to get to round here that does multipacks of vests/babygrows for less than £10. >you can take the girl out of Yorkshire but you can't take the Tyke out of the girl emoticon<

Is anyone using the freezer bags for EBM? Non of the Boots branches here have any in so I'm going to get some over t'internet but don't know which to try, any suggestions?

Petalouda · 24/05/2011 13:51

Hello!

Frak - I second the choc-present. It was the best I had & in all the bits I sent my mate last week, the choc was what she specifically thanked me for!

Ali - we've had a couple of awful nights with F. He was brilliantly sleepy in the beginning, but changed sometime in the last 4 weeks. Once he didn't sleep from about 4pm to 6am. Once before that, was so tired I felt sick. Then we started the routine! I'm getting better at handling the bad nights, 'this is what mat leave is for'.

Lucie - we're in cloth nappy club too. Only had leaks when the wrap's a bit wonky or with disposables. We use Little Lamb microfibre & bamboo, they're brilliant!

Beetle - we've got Lansinoh bags, DH got them from mothercare during engorgement-nightmare week.

We've got jabs next Tuesday, advice on what to expect & what to do would brunch appreciated.

Weigh-in this Thursday, a fortnight ago F was 12lbs, after putting on 2lbs on a fortnight. The curve says he should be 13lb this time, but he feels so heavy to me, and has grown out of most of the 0-3 month stuff. Shock Grin

caramellokoalalover · 24/05/2011 14:24

Ali tell me what summer sling you are thinking of getting when you decide. I've got the black Kari Me too and it's very sweaty! Frak one for each season is reasonable I say!

Lucie, Pampers here all the way. I found the Huggies leaked and felt a bit more papery.

Good night last night at last as I think I was due one. Also had S rewighed today after last week's weigh in had me fretting. Turns out they were wrong last week. She's bang on the 25% centile line so all good. Only thing now is that I/we have booby thrush Sad. Been told to give up the sugar, which I can not imagine doing. God it's going to be HARD. S's latch has gone to pot, she's bobbing on and off non-stop and shallow sucking. Boo. Hiss. BF consultant woman I saw today said hopefully it'll get back to normal when the thrush clears. Hope so as she's angry at the boob at the moment and she was so in love with it before. Anyone taken any probiotics/acidopholus in the past and can recommend a brand? I thought I might attack with some of that as well as the cream.

JustKeepSwimming · 24/05/2011 14:26

Second the Lansinoh bags, if you lie them flat before freezing they take up less space - oh and write on them before you put milk in, it's easier that way round :)

Haven't used this site but it looks like good value & free delivery here

JustKeepSwimming · 24/05/2011 14:28

Caramel - have you started on Fluconazole? you must see a gp and get it prescribed & knock the thrush on its head asap. Don't be fobbed off with just cream.
Have started taking some acidophilus tablets from holland & barrett (strawberry flavoured Hmm but are quite palatable).

caramellokoalalover · 24/05/2011 15:34

Thanks for the advice JKS. The GP didn't offer me Fluconazole, just the cream. Is it the one off dose you take when you get vaginal thrush? Canestan? I don't mind paying and getting it over the counter if it means I can avoid taking a toddler and S back to the GP!

MrsWajs · 24/05/2011 17:20

Beetle I have a full unopened pack of babies r us own brand freezer bags. I'm not gonna use them now so could post them to you if you want (save buying them) obviously can't comment on how good they are as haven't tried them out - never produced enough milk to get freezing!! If you want me to send them on then mail me your address and I'll stick them in the post for you :)

Chilli R had her ultrasound scan today as she was breech in the last trimester and they say she has a "lax" left hip :( she now has to wear 2 nappies at all times for the next 4 weeks to try and fix it! Was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a couple of old fashioned terry towelling nappies to stick on over her disposables? She has to go back for a repeat scan in 4 weeks and if it is no better she'll need a brace :(:(

Frakk I think 36 hour labour lady might like a good nights sleep hehe but since that isn't an option I'm sure hand cream and chocolate will be a suitable alternative!!

Robyn was a legend last night and slept from 10.45 til 5am!!! I am truly amazed, she has done it once or twice before now but usually it's 3am and then about 7am!! Feel super rested today Grin

She's now a healthy 8lb 10ozs too and newborn stuff is definitely out the window, as are the size 1 nappies!! Not sure how when some of you have 10lbers that are just growing out of their clothes now!?!

Starshaped · 24/05/2011 17:33

Caramello - We've got thrush and the GP has given me Fluconazole and some gel to rub in the baby's mouth twice a day. The Fluconazole isn't the same as the Canestan stuff. My GP has given me a seven day course (one tablet a day).

The midwife who told me to go to the GP for the thrush said that some doctors can be reluctant to prescribe Fluconazole to BF mums though (it's not licensed for them or something). However, babies can tolerate Fluconazole in much higher doses than they would ever get through breast milk, so it's fine to take. The Breast Feeding Network do an online information leaflet that explains all this and the midwife suggested taking this to the GP's in case they weren't keen to prescribe. My GP was quite happy to prescribe though, so the extra info wasn't needed.

LisMcA · 24/05/2011 17:55

I've survived my first solo day :o

B and I have had to have 2 full outfit changes though as he has projectile vomited after 2 feeds. He is not usually a sickie baby either so I'm wondering if the antiBs aren't agreeing with him. Any ideas?

I've also cleared out and packed away his first size stuff. Bless, been in tears as he is growing so fast!

Still not getting a huge amount of milk while pumping, I hope my supply gets back to normal soon as I am only just getting enough for each feed now :(

MrsWajs · 24/05/2011 19:13

Aww no Lis thats not so good about supply dropping off a bit, is it due to the mastitis or the anti-bs? My supply is all but gone now didn't pump today from 10 til about 5.30 and still only got a good ounce :( but have kind of resigned myself to the fact that it was almost over. Will keep going until there is none left though, or none worth pumping anyway. Think I've done well to keep going so long as it is so time consuming but still a little sad to think that once it's dried up that's it, no going back :(
Well done on your first day alone though!

I have DSS and R on my own this weekend as DP is going on a stag do, totally freaking out as DSS is going through a bit of a behavioural stage shall we say, probably a result of R's arrival so I'm steeling myself for a mad weekend!! Probably won't be helped by the fact that I'm going out on Friday night for a little while for another hen night!! Will be amazed if both children are still in one piece when I get home!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 24/05/2011 20:07

chilli - hope M was ok with her jabs? T has basically slept all day, just waking occasionally for feeds. I am hoping this doesn't mean he will be awake all night!!
I remember with DS1 that he was very sleepy after his 2nd set, but quite fussy and grumpy with a bit of a temp after his first and third sets, so I think it just depends how they react.

Lis - sounds like the ABs are giving B a bit of an upset tummy. I don't think there is much you can do about it :(
Your supply will come back I'm sure, I know when I am ill my supply drops a bit so it is probably the mastitis.

MrsW - have a look online for terry nappies. Somewhere like 'clean green nappy machine' will have them.

caramel - you need to go back and get the fluconazole, not just the cream. I feel your pain about wrestling a baby and toddler to the surgery though - it is a nightmare!!
Good news about the weight Grin

sarah - I hope your stitches sort themselves out soon - has the Dr given you anything?

Petal - the only thing I would say about jabs, is to have some Calpol with you incase you need it, and don't plan a hectic day incase F is suffering but can't drop off.
We went down to my parents today because I had a haircut booked, but being there is just like being at home really - but with extra pairs of arms to cuddle a grumpy child! I wouldn't have planned a day out or anything, incase T wanted lots and lots of feeding.
