X-posted keepcalm, he had loads of wee but did it 2 mins after getting off the potty.

I can't cope with being stuck indoors. I am going completely mental with staying in and so is M.

A is happy as larry watching fecking tv all day and wetting his trousers when he feels like it.

Sorry, I know it is a very small thing in the grand scheme of things but I'm an out-and-about person and I always knew the "staying indoors thing" was going to do my head in, just didn't realise quite how badly it would affect my mood Sad.

Why does he get off the potty to wee? What am I doing wrong? I have all the bribes in place but none of it's working Blush.

You sound very stressed. Bear in mind that Poppy and I have between potty trained zero children so we weren't the most useful guests to have over today. Keep calm, and see what your Mum thinks tomorrow. Wine

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 21/02/2011 19:34

I found it got worse before it got better. C suddenly just got it (for weed) on about day 5, having had ups and does over the previous few days. Don't give up. Also, fwiw I just went out anyway and we had no accidents while out.

KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 21/02/2011 19:37

It's still early Knitting - you're not doing anything wrong. S had a day of weeing in his trousers (I think we went through about 8 pairs of pants) but the next day he was fine. Keep putting him on the potty regularly, if he doesn't do anything or has an accident don't let him see you stress about it and if he does have success lavish him with praise. Watch out for any squirming or anything too.

Where do you have the potty? I plonked S on it in front of the tv and would put an episode of his favourite programme on. Or, I would sit with him and read books or do stickers in the cbeebies magazines etc. Anything to keep him on the potty long enough.

Hope you have a more relaxing evening and today is better for you. Can you do some stuff in the garden just to get outside for a bit?

KnittingRocks · 21/02/2011 19:39

Thanks spider, you were both great guests, it was lovely to have some company. I'm just so bad about not going out and about and I think the "nothing all day then wee behind curtains" was the final straw Blush.

Thanks biscuits, I will perservere. Ironically, as I was talking to dh in the playroom A took himself off into the lounge and did a poo on the potty Shock.

Knitting I think everyone has said what I was going to say but don't give up!
On day 2 (or was it day 3?) Iestyn refused to go on the potty, and kept refusing for an entire afternoon. When I had to go to the loo myself, he wouldn't come upstairs with me and shouted up 'I've done a huge wee!'. I had to ask him where it was and he showed me. Hmm

Incidentally, Iestyn is not a child who will go on the potty/loo and 'try'. Just won't. (Headstrong in everything...) So bear that in mind - lots of reminding is important in the early days, but I think Iestyn got fed up of it.
He also doesn't go very often, and probably doesn't drink enough but what can you do - he won't be forced on that either.

I'd suggest the garden too - it should get easier. Or how about (but not tomorrow) getting a potette or other travel potty and attempting somewhere you can walk to? The only place I went to was my Mum's, but strangely, we've not had a carseat accident ever. (So watch it happen tomorrow now that I've said that! Grin)

My boden maternity clothes came today!

EenyMeenyMaya · 22/02/2011 13:25

Unsuccessful PT day here too. Every wee on potty (4 of them) was followed by wet pants less than 5 mins later this morning. The only silver lining is the sun was shining to dry the washing quickly. We can do it Knitting!

But would have stayed in to watch the live Chch coverage anyway. Just awful - and don't get me started on Libya.

Main reason for popping on is that I am reading Simon Pegg's autobiography, Nerd Do Well. His baby photos remind me of I Dewin. I can't find any online, so you'll have to have a browse next time you're in a bookshop.

DewinDoeth · 22/02/2011 13:51

See, now, I do kind of fancy Simon Pegg. Grin

systemsaddict · 22/02/2011 14:37

Me too Dewin. Have watched the 'Spaced' box set too many times. Blush

I have been feeling a bit ashamed of ourselves not doing the potty training stuff yet, but am now persuaded to leave it till the Easter break and hope the weather's nice enough to just have her running around outside!

KnittingRocks · 22/02/2011 17:12

Systems don't be remotely ashamed! We're hours away from jacking it in as a total waste of time. Think we'll wait til the summer holidays cos this is not good for any of us!

Sara, kwym about not persuading him on if he doesn't need to go but if he has absolutely NO idea when he needs to go what do I do??

Eeny, the NZ stuff is tragic beyond belief : (

Knitting - have you had another rubbish day? I think (in my very limited experience obv) that it just 'clicks' at some point for them. I was lucky in that it was day 2/3 for S but Biscuits said it was day 5. Until it does I think you just have to keep putting them on the potty every half hour or so. I'd keep at it for a few days more before deciding - I think if you jack it in just now it will seem like a really daunting thing next time.

Glad you're Ok btw Maya, I haven't actually seen any news today yet but it sounds awful!

KnittingRocks · 22/02/2011 19:26

Thank you keepcalm (maybe I need to adopt your NN Grin?). I was having a bad afternoon!

Mum is here now and is adamant we're not giving up. She made this Hmm face when I showed her my GF book Grin and said she thought he was doing well. He did two poos in the potty before bed!

We have worked out he goes between 2 1/2 and 3 hrs between needing to use the potty so are trying not to go on about it all too much, but mum has told me to go out tomorrow and she'll get on with it without me stressing Blush.

OP posts:
DewinDoeth · 22/02/2011 19:36

Aaaaah, my Mum did day 1 for me as well, and some of day 2! It was because I went to a funeral on the 13th and it was my birthday on the 14th.
Your mum sounds right - I found it took several days before it clicked. And only now - a month on - are we fully sorted; 2 weeks ago Iestyn was still disastrous at nursery.
My Mum also rejected GF, and then proceeded to tell me 'her way'...which was basically GF without the patronising tone! Grin

Give it a week before you consider giving up. Good plan on not going on about it too much - that annoys Iestyn as well - and we still can't get him to 'try' doing something. He either needs to, or won't. But he's quite good now, despite giving all appearance of being clueless the first 4 days of training!

abdnhiker · 22/02/2011 20:53

knitting if you really want to stop, then do as it's not worth getting stressed, but it does sound like A is getting the idea. It's great that your mum will do a day - my mum trained DS1 when we were visiting her and it was a very smooth experience :)

KnittingRocks · 22/02/2011 21:25

I do want to stop but I think keepcalm is right about me not wanting to start again - A will be in nappies at his graduation if u left it to me! Wink

I will let mum carry on and try and stay calm.

Our next problem is that, because A has been in all day, he didn't go to sleep til 9.15!!!!!

OP posts:
systemsaddict · 23/02/2011 10:22

I'm going to my mum's for a week in summer, maybe I should leave it till then ... but think that's a little unfair on C, who climbed on the toilet at nursery yesterday! Nursery staff v. chilled about it, say she'll do it herself pretty much when she's ready and I tend to agree, this is so much her character, she does like to teach herself to do stuff (not always a good thing; the lock for the fridge arrives today, we need to stop her getting her own lunch together ... ).

Yes Maya meant to say glad you're OK. NZ and Aus have had such a terrible time of it this year.

KnittingRocks · 23/02/2011 10:42

Another dreadful morning. Mum happy to carry on but I've had enough. Nappies back on for a lovely long walk and trip to the park this afternoon. I feel better already.

OP posts:
SpiderWilliam · 23/02/2011 19:10

How was the rest of the day Knitting? hope you managed to chill out a bit.

KnittingRocks · 23/02/2011 20:07

Had a lovely afternoon thanks. Took the boys - Alex ran out of the front door shouting "outside, outside"! which totally vindicated my decision! - to a paint your own pottery place and had a walk round a garden centre (wet weather activities!).

I do worry that I've now made PT a massive issue for both of us but I'll have to worry about that at a later date.

OP posts:
KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 23/02/2011 20:26

don't worry about it Knitting - you can try again in the nicer weather when Alex can run around in the garden. Try not to build it into something that will stress you out next time around.

Am feeling quite pleased as have just saved about £30 on a Boden order. I got sent a £10 voucher in the post which I could use with another offer.

Nothing else to report here!

DewinDoeth · 23/02/2011 20:30

Are you still going with it, Knitting, or stopped for now? Either way, I doubt A will have noticed the stress - he probably just thought 'what's this new business with the potty - how tiresome, won't bother with that rubbish'!
PT is the worst, I hated it. We seem to be there now - poos in potties, less accidents and less withholding.

Having a mixed day here - foul weather, I have an earache; been to the GP but whilst she said she could give me antibiotics she told me to wait because I'm pg and best not take anything (so I will wait and see, but I'm not a happy bunny and my ears have never ever healed themselves Sad). But had lots of fun with Iestyn - we went to the sorting office Grin and he said 'posterman [sic], where is your hat' etc and the postmen played along!! The 'postman' declined Iestyn's offer to deliver some letters for him though. Grin (Better than a theme park - and free!) And we're doing promo work for the bilingualism people TWF and Bookstart, so we have a massive stack of books for free and a flip cam (which I have to send back but I so don't want to!) so we've been doing that.

I also had my 20wk scan today. Smile All well.

DewinDoeth · 23/02/2011 20:33

X-posted - I used the voucher in conjunction with the mumsnet usual discount, and my Mum also got a voucher she gave me! (Only one at a time - although I do wonder whether I could have had a lot off - but it still works out the same because it's free p&p and returns.)
And they do maternity wear. Grin They should send it all to me for free to do a trial for them. [Have a lovely lovely lovely dress, a lovely top, but the tunic was horrendous. I looked like a ship in full sail in it. Back end of a bus. I'm a size 8, so you can see that something's badly wrong there.]

KeepCalmAndCarryOnMNing · 23/02/2011 20:37

It's always worth a search around the promo topic and S&B to see if there's anything better than 10/11% off Boden around. I found a buy 3, get 4th for £1 which I used (which included free p&p). It's not a code I normally use, but I was getting some bits for S and with the extra £10 if was quite a saving.

They appear to have stopped doing the 'get £10 off a £30 spend' code, but I suspect that was due to the wholesale abuse of it by MNers!!! Grin I reckon that's why they sent these £10 off vouchers out instead.

KnittingRocks · 23/02/2011 20:58

Thanks guys, feeling a bit low generally so this not helping Sad.

Can't understand how I got it so wrong really but I don't seem to be very good at this parenting lark all round really despite reading all the books. Struggled to get pg, struggled to stay pg, cldnt do natural birth, cldnt feed, can't get them to sleep, can't potty train. I've always been a successful person so finding all this a bit of a shock! Blush Grin

ShouldersBackAndNoBiscuits · 23/02/2011 20:58

I had a boden voucher too, and a 15% off code! I have ordered some plimsoles which I await with baited breath as I've never ordered shoes on line before!

Knitting have you seen these? They make me think of you. I lust after one. Oh, and D is nearly out of the newborn insert for the out and about, would you fb me your address so I can send it back to you? Thank you so much for the loan of it, it has been very useful for my micro-girl.

Had an awful day with C yesterday - she was super whingey about everything and anything and it really got me down. DH was working late as well so by the time he got home I was knackered and I went to bed at 9.00. Fortunately she seems to have slept off the whinges and was delightful this morning, and trotted into nursery full of beans.
