Sorry to post and run girls, bit manic here and G is being rather cross today.

we've only been swimming once and have yet to muster the energy to go again! Something about getting wet when it's so miserable outside doesn't appeal [wimp]

neenz these have gone down a storm with G and ds1! So far we've had tuna, chicken & sweetcorn and blueberry & banana. Roast chicken is also a firm favourite hth Smile

bouncingblueberries · 07/02/2011 13:13

good luck belly - sounds a fair request to me!

Chulita · 07/02/2011 14:27

belly I hope E settles down, she might be teething and using you to help her through it or she might be on a growth spurt. If she's actually sucking it'd be worth leaving her on even if it's ages, they know what they need. I really hope she calms down for you though.

gya so sad, I've always leaned towards feeling safer once we're past the 24ish weeks but it shows how blessed we are to have our los.

I'm trying to get DH to sign us up for swimming so we can go for free but he's baulking at the £45 yearly insurance fee - I reckon we'll save that within a month cos the 4 of us would cost about a tenner at the council pool. L hasn't been swimming for about a year Blush

citrus is 12m I think. Dairy, not sure - formula is dairy and loads of babies have that! I have added some cows milk to Daniel's food and he has been fine with it. he had quinoa with sweet potato and broccoli today - get me!

ElusiveMoose · 08/02/2011 09:05

I think dairy is ok from 6 months as long as they're not actually having it as a drink (ie they can have bits of yoghurt, cheese etc).

Our best ever puree with DS1 (and S seems to like it too) was avocado and banana. It's super-healthy and packed full of calories, protein and 'good' fats, plus you don't have to cook it. It's in the Annabel Karmel book. She does it with some natural yoghurt it, but before 6M you can just do it with some formula/EBM. Only downside is that it doesn't keep - but it's so instant to make, that that doesn't really matter.

morsbagmum · 08/02/2011 15:01

ElusiveMoose i love Annabel Karmel - her book has been my bible when it comes to weaning.

Miss E is now rolling over onto her front at every opportunity, she is desperatley trying to crawl but hasn't quite got it yet, she does a good impression of a snake though, wriggling on her belly to where she wants to go. I think it's time to baby proof the house.... she is going to spend the day with my mum tomorrow so I can give the house a good clean, it's a disgrace!

This morning we made a valentine card... by painting the bottom of her feet with red paint and then stamping them onto a card to make a heart shape... a bit messy but fun!

Re swimming.... I would second the two towel suggestion. I tend to go wearing my swimming costume (under my clothes of course )and get myself ready first, then get E ready... after swimming I get her dried and dressed fisrt, it's a bit of a nightmare the first few times but does get easier..you just have to be super organized.. oh and if like me you decide to wear your swimming costume under your clothes... don't forget to pack your underwear for afterwards Blush.

bellygazing · 08/02/2011 19:22

Hi all,

E had her first proper swimming lesson today.. unfortunately I didn't get up early enough for her to have a nap first and she didn't, as hoped, fall asleep on the way there so she was uber tired when we got there and therefore cried A LOT during the first part of the lesson. While everyone else was practising swimming hold, I had to just do a lot of cuddling! But she managed the underwater swim without a fuss.

Thanks for suggestions, guys, evenings are still a bit hit and miss and I think she may well have been teething - the other night she woke crying inconsolably and usually she stops when she gets a cuddle, this time only boob would do. She is now self-settling at 10ish probably every other night - altho this is sort of a last resort as by this point she really ought to be asleep... and we are getting more naps in the cot, always so far after she has had solid food. She is doing quite well with food so far, likes butternut squash, parsnip, sweet potato, not so keen on carrot and fairly ambivalent to potato. We've also done pear and apple, but usually with baby rice which I don't think she's a massive fan of... but it does seem to fill her up...

Have a lovely evening all Smile

marzipananimal · 08/02/2011 19:24

lol at forgetting to pack your undewear - I've done that before!
We're all prepared now with high chair, bibs and plastic mat for the floor to start weaning properly. Am looking forward to it but not all the extra cleaning!

neenz · 08/02/2011 20:24

I'm definitely going to try avocado and banana!

Belly, get the Calpol out if you think it could be teething. I always think crying inconsolably/out of character is definitely teething/pain. It's so annoying when they miss a nap then get overtired isn't it, esp when you have something planned like swimming or playgroup. My kids have always slept and napped better after solid food!

Daniel can roll from back to front but not front to back although he is nearly there, just can't quite get over his shoulder.

girlsyearapart · 09/02/2011 06:56

Morning all.

Went to my double lot of exercise classes last night while my mum babysat and when I got home at 945 she had T asleep on the sofa next to her..

She had been crying and had had some milk and mum had tried to put her back to bed to no avail so I thought I was in for a rough night but she slept until 6.15!

Lovely.

Took her back to the doctor for her follow up yesterday.

He said if she was 2 he would say it was asthma but can't say that about under 2s.
Now have yet another inhaler

Chulita · 09/02/2011 08:13

gya I can't believe you go out til 9.45! Shock I'm tucked up by 9.30 every night and couldn't face an evening class at the mo cos I just need my sleep too much. Good for you though, if I did go out I probably wouldn't be hanging onto this extra stone of weight!

S is teething, he does that 'mmmmmmmmmm' grizzle all day every day at the mo with lots of dribble. He's also dropped a lot of feeds in the last 3/4 days, anyone else's LO feeding less? S won't feed unless it's right before sleep so I've no chance of feeding him when we're out. He's down to about 5 or 6 feeds a day.

OP posts:
neenz · 09/02/2011 15:03

GYA, that's worrying about the asthma Sad. Do your other girls have it?

Chulita Daniel has cut down loads on his BFing. I haven't felt too full so maybe he is just drinking faster but since solids it has definitely tailed off. i just try to offer him the breast as often as I can and at least every 3 hrs. He does feed better when we are alone in a dark room where he has no other stimulation so maybe that would help?

His poos seem really solid atm though and i think they are hurting him Sad. So I think he does need more fluids. Easier said than done - I am trying to give him more liquidy food and add milk to his food too.

Chulita · 09/02/2011 16:06

neenz he's only fed in a darkened room for a while now but now he'll only feed right before nap/sleep. Never mind, I'm sure it's normal. He's been constipated too so we went a couple of days with just fruit and he's loosened up again but still quite solid. He won't drink water which is annoying and milk isn't top priority anymore, no more bf poos Sad

OP posts:
girlsyearapart · 09/02/2011 18:50

No the others don't have it.
Dd2 had terrible excema and has multiple allergies though so its all linked.

Struggle to stay awake past ten pm and on Saturday I'm going to go out to a club for a friends 30th and the cabs are taking us home at 4 am!! Tired just thinking about it..

Wrt fluids- now T is on solids she has majorly dropped her milk intake and won't drink much water either.
Can get quite alot into her via her porridge though.

CherryPie3 · 10/02/2011 17:12

Hello everyone, I realise I've been a bit AWOL (ok majorly AWOL Blush but please please can I come back?

Corey is 7m now Shock xxx

thedogwalker · 10/02/2011 19:12

Hi Cherrypie, great to hear from you again. So the LO is 7 months already, wow doesn't time fly. My Thomas is not quite 6 months yet, another 11 days to go, but again, I wonder where the time has gone.

So Cherry, tell us what you've been up to.

Sorted out the child minder today. I go back to work on 2 May, I know that is still some time off, but I wanted to get everything sorted. Thomas knows the lady as we have a weekly coffee morning and she comes with the children she looks after, so he knows her and the other kids, which I hope makes it easier on him. I dread the thought of going back to work and leaving him. Only 4 more years left on my contract and then thats me, full time wife and mother. Just wish I could do. it sooner

Hope everyone is well.

vix206 · 10/02/2011 19:45

Hey cherry I went AWOL too! Welcome back :)

marzipananimal · 10/02/2011 20:03

Hello cherry. 7 months! J won't be 6 months for another couple of weeks but still seems ridiculously old!
He had some pear today and really enjoyed it. He put a really big piece in his mouth and I was a bit nervous but he chomped and sucked for a while and then spat a small piece out so must have swallowed the rest.

Wow gya 4am! I often can't keep my eyes open past 9.30 so have to go to bed even though DH then has to wake me up at 10.15 for J's dreamfeed (although at the mo he's usually waking up before then anyway)

So glad it's nearly the weekend. Sometimes I think I'm not cut out for this mum thing - despite having wanted a baby since I was 7 Blush

girlsyearapart · 11/02/2011 05:21

I wouldn't bet on me lasting till 4 tho marzi!

Welcome back cherry

CherryPie3 · 11/02/2011 08:15

Thanks for the warm welcome back girls :)

I haven't really been up to anything much dogwalker, my life is a whirl of nappies, school runs, meal making for 5 and baking!!

And I'm broody!!! Haven't told dh of course Grin

marzi you pray for the weekend and I pray for Monday when the older 2 go back to school :)

gya you're having such a tough time of it lately, hope your dh is ok and has no lasting injuries xx

Hope you're all well, still in touch with some mn ladies via fb so in some ways it feels like I haven't been away! :)

XxxxxxX

thedogwalker · 11/02/2011 13:44

Hello all

Bouncing, you referred a website earlier this week, which has some great recipes on and you wrote about the finger food patties. The recipe calls for milk. Did you use normal dairy milk, EBM or formula? They sound fantastic and I want to cook them but was unsure about the milk, can you please let me know. Many thanks.

Marzi, My T loves pear, he eats a whole one to himself, but I have to watch him like a hawk when he's eating it, as he just keeps putting more and more in his mouth until he starts choking. I think because they are so juicy, and easy to chew down with gums, makes them such a good fruit to eat.

Cherry, You're broody and you already have a clan, good luck with persuading DH. I'm already on the folic acid and we have planned to start trying again in August. DH then goes away in September for 6 months, so fingers crossed that I get pregnant quickly (got preggers within 2 weeks of trying last time).

I finally lost the last pound of my baby weight this week and so I am now ready to buy new clothes as a treat to me.

Hope everyone is well and has a good weekend.

Chulita · 11/02/2011 14:13

thedogwalker unless your LO has a dairy intolerance, the general consensus is that you can give dairy products (including milk) from 6 months. The only thing is not to give it as a drink because it doesn't have all the nutrients LOs need. Cos S is dairy intolerant I use Oatley milk in his and my stuff but with L I used cow's milk from quite early on. Well done on the baby weight, I'm very, very jealous!

cherry I'm sooo broody already too, I've got a stone of baby weight to shift before I dare try again though, aiming for around June/July time (if I can convince DH to try that early)

OP posts:
thedogwalker · 11/02/2011 16:14

Thanks Chulita, going to cook them tonight. I don't want to use things out of packets, at least I am trying not to and so those little pattie things sound perfect for the job. See what T thinks of them, a change to just fruit or veg. No teeth yet so have not tried meat with him.

So there seems to be a few of us that are broody already, 2 of my neightbours got pregnant when their LOs were 11 months, and they seem to be doing just fine, so I hope I can too.

Hope everyone has a great valentine weekend, tkae care x

neenz · 11/02/2011 21:55

I wouldn't say i'm broody but i can see me having another baby at some point! a few weeks ago i was thinking no way. will be 3yrs at least tho. don't tell dh... he says def no more!

daniel was doing so well with his food, eating loads (but still waking once in night) but last two days he has only had a few spoons then mouth clamped shut. but he slept thru last night! Confused i think he is teething. he loves to suck on rice cakes so may give him a finger food tea tomorrow and see how he goes. he was feeding himself his mashed banana this morn off a spoon! (i was loading it tho of course). he is so much more advanced than the twins (but they were 3.5wks prem).

sorry one-handed typing due to Wine!

neenz · 11/02/2011 21:57

dogwalker I always boil up a sweet potato, stew an apple and then cook some broccoli or something, just have a few things in the fridge to mix together for daniel. No need for jars or freezing ice cubes of puree! Are you blw'ing tho?
