Bass, my DS1 ate like it was going out of fashion, then puked half of it back up every single time, AND put on a pound a week for awhile. I wouldn't worry about it, if he's gaining weight well and contented. Just means he likes to nurse, and you'll lose weight faster! I lost all the weight plus some in 16 weeks, when I (unknowingly :) ) got pregnant with DS2, and was wondering why I'd stopped losing weight!

Fenouille · 04/12/2010 16:48

Hi bass glad to hear you're feeling better today. It sounds like you had a lovely outing.

I went to the supermarket today by myself ! First time in over a month and it felt great (and then I felt guilty that I wasn't missing my son Hmm ) While I was out DH gave him a bath and then they had a snooze together so sounds like I wasn't missed either Grin It made me feel so much more normal.

I'm not so keen on all this projectile vomiting though - could you please keep it on your side of the channel? Xmas Grin

Mibby · 04/12/2010 18:14

We made it out to do a major food shop today, feel better now we're 'restocked' :)
I hate running out of things, especially in this weather. She was very good in the car and the shop, then wee'd and poo'd on me as soon as I got her home and changed her nappy...oh well....better at home than in the shop!

funbun · 04/12/2010 18:50

Hello everyone. Not been very good at posting in the last few months. Teddy was born last Thursday 25th Nov - 8lb's 13oz.

BF going really well now althoiugh was a nightmare to start with because he was tongue tied but now he's been snipped well cooking with gas.

Very loose bowels - about 8-10 poo's a day - he's 9 days old now. Also he does sleep a lot - I think about 18+ hours a day - is this ok?

Wallace · 05/12/2010 08:37

Posting so I can find the thread again! Congratulations funbun :) I love the name Teddy :)

sarahbuff · 05/12/2010 09:34

Congrats, funbun! Newborns sleep absolutely LOADS, I wouldn't worry about it. I find as they get older they start to spend longer and longer periods awake between sleeps until they settle into two naps a day or so, when they are coming up to 5 or 6 months old.

Vix7 · 06/12/2010 17:28

Just a lil over a month already! K is doing well, tho shld I be concerned tt she's feeding slightly less now? She's down to 9-10 feeds in 24h from 15+ the last week? Diaper changes are also down to 6-8 fr 10+.

It never ends does it? First it's why is she feeding/pooing/peeing so much? Now it's is she feeding/pooing/peeing enough? The worries of a first time mom.

Also she's now got a rash on her cheeks, ears, forehead. Argh.

hmmSleep · 06/12/2010 17:55

7 weeks tomorrow! Lottie did her first smile last week which was amazing, and much needed. I've been feeling a bit low, I think just exhausted, but that little smile reminded me it's all worth while. Missed my 6 week check because of the snow, have rearranged for this Thursday. Still bleeding quite heavily and a bit of tummy pain so keen to get checked out.

Vix7, all sounds very normal on the pooing, feeding front. The rash is probably just milk spots or baby acne. Lottie had it really badly but is now completely clear.

Took Lottie to baby massage today which she seemed to really enjoy, it was nice to do something special with just her, rather than the usual dragging her along to Dd1 and Ds's activities.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

smokeybacon · 06/12/2010 20:27

Ah ha. D'you know this thread had completely passed me by?

Apologies all. Todays homework is therefore to read it.

Vix7 · 06/12/2010 22:11

i've jinxed myself cos shortly after that post re: K's pee/poo habits, went to change her diaper when she woke up.

she projectile poo'd on my teeshirt.

then as i was trying to take my tee off, she shot off 1 more poo missile which landed just abt 2m away ON MY BEDSHEET AND DOONA COVER!!

as DH and myself were screeching and frantically trying to wipe off the solid bits and spraying Vanish on the stains, she let go ANOTHER one which i half caught with the muslin she was lying on.

cue much frantic screeching from parents. DH ripped off the stained sheets and ran off to the drycleaners with them.

the little terror just lay back on the change table smiling angelically the whole time.

sarahbuff · 07/12/2010 09:57

LOL Vix!! My first was like that. Once he pooed in my lap while I was changing him and it soaked through my clothes AND my underwear, I had to go get in the shower straight away. Babies are just so much fun! Grin

Fenouille · 07/12/2010 11:02

I'm laughing my head off here Vix while simultaneously hoping Norry doesn't get any ideas. I do hope the bedding comes up clean.

You've cheered me right up as we had an horrendous day here yesterday. After my public bf triumph (ha!) he spent the whole afternoon either crying to feed or crying to be changed. I did a lot of crying too :( I ended up calling DH to come home early (which he did thank goodness). He stayed like that all evening and wouldn't be put down after a feed which consisted of 50 mins boob, 60ml expressed milk, another 30 mins boob and then some formula in desperation. I'm assuming this is one of the famous growth spurts? He's been feeding now for 45 mins and is getting very frustrated with lots of trying to pull my nipples to my knees. I'm bracing myself for a repeat of yesterday Xmas Sad

Hope you're all having better days than Vix and me Grin

lainey1981 · 07/12/2010 11:04

hello, I've finally got round to digging out this thread. can't believe back in March we started our first thread desperately worrying about every niggle and pain hoping our little ones were ok, and now we are here with our babies.
thanks to everyone who has made me feel normal and kept me sane through each of my niggles and TMI incidents lol.

Vix lol at the explosive poo - me and DP have had a few close calls but am sure it's only a matter of time before I get christened.

Finn is doing well, though resembles a snake at the moment as all his skin is peeling off- have been oiling it so hope it imoroves soon, he looks a bit ragged Smile

Have an appointment to get his suspected tongue tie assessed today - I really hope it is tongue tie because that gives me hope that we can improve things. Last night my right breast was so sore I couldn't feed from it, so we did all the feeds from the let - cue comedy sized boobs one double the size of the other. Feels much better this morning, though still very painful Sad

hmmsleep what is baby massage like? I am thinking of taking Finn to some sessions, but need to find out about cost etc first. AM hoping might be a good place to meet other mums too.
Good news is that DP went back to work yesterday but took the rest of the week off, then he's back to work for a week before 3 1/2 weeks off - will be lovely.

Wallace · 07/12/2010 12:37

lol at the poo! When ds1 was tiny I was changing him in the car - he was lying on driver's seat, I was kneeling on passenger seat...

he pooed all over handbrake, gearstick and onto the passenger seat and all over me!

hmmSleep · 07/12/2010 13:01

Earlier in the thread I reassured someone that it was normal to still be bleeding at 6 weeks, but now I'm past 7 weeks and still bleeding quite heavy fresh blood I'm starting to worry myself! Can I ask a personal question, is everyone else is still bleeding and if yes does it seem to be tailing off, getting older blood etc?

lainey, Lottie seemed to really enjoy the massage class, she's not normally very good at being laid down on her back, but stayed there happily for half an hour. All the other babies seemed to enjoy it too, and was great to meet other mums with babies of a similar age. My class was at the local surestart centre, and was free! I did pay for classes when Dd1 was a baby, and she hated it but was a bit older and at the stage where she just wanted to be exploring, not lying still.

Mibby · 07/12/2010 13:27

hmm Ive still got red/ brown discharge, with occasional bouts of fresh red blood, still too much to think about leaving the pads off yet. Check with you HV tho, if youre worried

sarahbuff · 07/12/2010 13:40

hmmsleep I'd get that checked out for sure, as it is still red blood. I am bleeding a small amount of brown blood, not enough to fill one normal pad in a day. (Skye will be 3 weeks tomorrow). Obviously we're all different as to how much we'll bleed and for how long, but I don't think fresh blood and a lot of it is likely to be normal at 7 weeks postpartum. Hope all is okay with you!

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time Fen, could it be possible that Norry had a bit of a bad tummy, not necessarily that he was hungry? It seems strange that he would have all that breastfeeding, pumped milk AND formula and still be fussy if hunger was the issue. Seems to me we all have days when we don't feel 100% and with babies the response can sometimes be to bf more for the comfort... Hope it all settles down for you!

Fenouille · 07/12/2010 14:05

hmm I stopped bleeding about a week ago, but the really red stuff stopped after about 10-15 days. I'd definitely get it checked, although hopefully it will be nothing to worry about. Good to hear you both enjoyed the baby massage session. We've got ours tomorrow and I'm hoping it might calm Norry down a bit.

Hi sarah we were wondering if he was maybe getting a cold but as he's 5 weeks tomorrow I was also wondering if it was his 6 week growth spurt come early. He hasn't had any colic up to now so I hope he's not going to start getting it now! After our walk he's now had 30 minutes on and off the boob, mix of proper and comfort sucking. As soon as he comes off, even if he'd fallen asleep he starts crying again. Argh. At least I'm a bit forewarned about it after yesterday so I'm feeling much more resigned to it.

wallace Shock

sancerrre · 07/12/2010 14:46

Hi all, bit of a worrying time here on the lack of poo front and meconium appearing when it should have all be out days ago. Took him to the Dr and of course as soon as the nappy came off we had a lovely yellow poo explosion and then plenty since. Seems his bowels were just a bit slow to get going.

Bleeding tailing off here at 10 days but suddenly quite bad period type pain, hoping its just uterus regaining shape, rather than any kind of infection.

Hope all the bf issues resolve themselves soon.

So much to worry about!

lainey1981 · 07/12/2010 15:12

my bleeding has been quite light so far - wonder if that is due to the post partum heamorrage? I tend to get more if I have been out and about but seem to have switch between browny and yellowy colour for the most part? I honestly thought there would be a lot more

stitches have really started to itch and feel uncomfortable in the last couple of days - can't wait til they dissolve and I can sneeze/laugh/cough without feeling like am being pulled in all directions lol

Just got back from the hospital where I saw the breastfeeding coordinator who confirmed that Finn has a posterior tongue tie - hence all the pain and problems with BFing - he just can't lift his tongue to th roof of his mouth meaning i get his gums grinding against me.
she was horrified at the state of my nipples - which made me feel better and finally have a reason for it- not just being a wimp.
she has made an urgent referral for the procedure to have it cut, which hopefully means that it will be snipped in a week. I am really hoping that after that BFing falls into place for me. Particularly as she said must BF for 6 months to help bring his jaw forward (slightly receding - common in TT babies apparently, we thought it was just a weak chin - a trait of DPs family!)

have been told to make appt at GP to get some special gel pads to help with the pain, and been advised to try 'exaggerated attachment' & to squeeze breast while he's feeding to get it in to him quicker.

so have to Grin and bare the pain for another week, but at least I feel there is hope that we can continue.

hmm I'll have to look into surestart around here - are there certain criteria which you must meet to qualify for the free sessions? or are they a bit like a trial?

hmmSleep · 07/12/2010 15:51

Thanks for info everyone, I'm seeing the GP on Thursday so will mention it then.

lainey I think all surestart centres are different depending on where you live. No criteria to qualify here, (I actually feel a bit cheeky receiving the free sessions)but I think in some areas such classes are offered to the more disadvantaged families first. They vary what they have on offer too, baby massage, song time, craft for older children etc. Definitely worth checking out. Hope they get Finn's tongue tie sorted soon, doesn't sound much fun for either of you.

Mibby · 07/12/2010 16:05

Glad youre getting somewhere with Finns tongue tie lainey Hope the bf will improve for you soon

Just back from the midwife, shes put all the lost weight back on and a bit extra. Now 9lb 1oz :) Sooo pleased

Rinnyx · 07/12/2010 16:44

Hey everyone not been on here in awhile.
Been and still trying to get over this bug that also Isaac has now, poor little mite has a stuffy nose :(
Cant believe he is a whole month today already but I have been getting lots of smiles off him today :)

Maybe TMI but still bleeding Angry was hopeing it might be done with by Friday as going out for my birthday but dont see any chance of that happening

bunnygirl80 · 07/12/2010 23:41

fen Will did exactly the same as Norry with his feeding on Monday. He wsa on the boob virtually constantly from 8am to 10pm, and didn't sleep more than 30mins at a stretch during that whole time. Ended up ringing DH in tears to ask him to come home from work Xmas Sad

With hindsight the poor thing had wind and was just looking to comfort suck - he was just making it worse by taking on more and more milk every time I fed him. He was much better yesterday but I made sure once I was happy he had drained at least one breast at a feeding session I offered him his dummy rather than more food. Seemed to work as although he was difficult to put down to sleep he would eventually do a massive fart and drift off about 30 secs later.

I did mention it to my HV when I had him weighed yesterday and she said it's a normal part of their development and should peak at 6 weeks then get much better as their digestive system matures. Hope Norry's better today Xmas Smile

hmm I would definitely get your bleeding checked out. Mine has pretty much stopped (using pantyliners rather than towels at 4 weeks) and I think 7 weeks is a bit late to still be seeing bright red blood.

Are all of you still feeding from both breasts every time? Will's been having a really good 20 min feed on one side, then falling asleep and not showing any interest in the other. The boob he feeds from is always completely empty when he's done, and I know I've got masses of milk in there, but all the books say to always offer both sides at this stage. If I do manage to get him to take the other side we end up with vomming and terrible wind. I assume that means he's full up after 1 breast now. Xmas Confused I'm thinking I'll start pumping the side he doesn't take so I've got some EBM for DH to give him

OP posts:
hmmSleep · 08/12/2010 08:24

bunny, Lottie has never fed from both breasts, I just offer one side one feed, then the other the next, she's just not interested in both in one feed. She's a little fatty, so think it must be OK!
