Hehe me too ebb, I went off chocolate whilst pregnant, but have rediscovered it with gusto! :) I always feel as though there isn't much milk in my boobs at night, and many people have mentioned that they think their supply is low in the evening, but I have a thought to throw out there. I suspect that our supplies are not low, as baby is eating much more often in the evening there is still milk there but not enough time between feeds for boobs to get to that full feeling. I suspect that if one evening Skye didn't cluster feed I'd have very full uncomfortable boobs!

funbun · 21/12/2010 16:56

Quite a dramatic few days. Ended up seeing out of hours doc on Sunday afternoon and were referred to the Paediatrics Dept and then moved to childrens ward because Teddy has broncialitis. Ended up staying in Childrens ward for 2 days with Teddy on oxygen. Finally allowed home this morning. And all the snow plus my not driving made it more difficult with childcare for DS1.

He's lots better now but could have the cold for another week or so. Think we're through the worst. He's continiued feeding well and is now breathing a lot more easily - excuse grammer..

sancerrre · 21/12/2010 17:37

Hope the scary sounding illnesses clear up soon, especially the ones that that required hospitalisation. Must be awful.

Very jealous of those of you getting back to pre pg weight. I've got 20lb to go. And that's allowing a 5lb buffer for extra boobage. Grin

Rinnyx · 21/12/2010 17:48

Hello all :)

Had my 6 week check today, all went well apart from being told its going to still be awhile before my sciatica goes away :(
Isaac is doing well, smiling lots more, making new sounds and I swear maybe trying to find his laugh :)

Looking forward to christmas and if I dont get on here before then hope you all have a fab X-mas and new year x

harmonyb23 · 21/12/2010 18:16

Hello everyone, haven't been on Mumsnet for ages and only just found the postnatal thread.

Sorry to hear about those whose babies are suffering with illness at the moment, I hope things clear up soon!

Baby Aiden is doing well, he is now weighing 10lb 1oz (as of last Friday) which I am very pleased with, seeing as he started out a mere 5lb 12oz. He has managed to put on 1lb each week for the last couple of weeks and is feeding very well!! Smile

Also, the last few nights he has been sleeping for about 5 hours at a time, which is a real improvement from the 3 hours he was sleeping before. It's amazing how much difference just a couple of extra hours of sleep can make, makes me feel much more human when I decide to roll out of bed in the morning.

Aiden is due his 8 week injections tomorrow. Am nervous as I remember how much Ben cried when we took him for his injections oh so many years ago!! Not looking forward to it at all.

As for getting back to pre-pregnancy weight, I am not making any real effort although I have been eating sensibly and have been doing my yoga every morning. Feeling more toned, but I don't look any smaller. I was heavy to begin with though! I am hoping to start weight watchers in the new year as I would like to get down to about 10 and a half stone, one day!!

Anyway, got to get on with the tea now, I hope everyone is getting on well with their little ones, speak soon!! x x x

bunnygirl80 · 21/12/2010 23:36

Sorry to hear about all the babies with bronchiolitis at the moment - hope they all make a speedy recovery. It makes me feel very lucky that it's summer here so there's very little illness around

Just to add to the fussing in the evenings/cluster feeding/empty boob feeling dicussion, we had a long chat about this with the lactation consultant at my mother's group last week as all of us were finding that our babies were doing similar.

She said that there is most definitely not less milk of an evening, but that the hormone that stimulates your let down is lower. This means that the milk will take longer to start flowing and it will come out slower than at other times of the day. If baby's really hungry they can get frustrated and start head butting/pounding with their hands to get the milk. Apparantly puppies and kittens do it too, so it's not just us Xmas Smile Baby will try and feed more frequently to try and stimulate the milk to flow, which is why your boobs never get the full feeling they might have at other times of the day.

Alternatively, baby might just want to comfort suck and be fussing once the milk flows as they're not really hungry.

So the tricky thing really is figuring out which one of these your baby is - hungry and pissed of with slower flow, or not hungry and pissed off with any flow Xmas Grin

Thanks bunny that makes sense, just need to figure out which now. We have a fussy head butting baby here too, feeds well in the day but evenings are a pain. Some colic too which really doesn't help

Hope all the poorly babies are doing better

Babybean1 · 22/12/2010 11:45

Also another head butter, and also nipple puller here!! I find that she tends to yank my nipple off (well that's what it feels like anyway!!) when she has wind! Sometimes she's like a ganit at it as if she can't get enough and her head is all over the place, but that it when she is usually tired & doesn't want anymore at all!! Some many things to consider......(sighs)

Hope all poorly babies get better soon

Had Evies 6 week check yesterday (altho she's 7 weeks) & all fine. Weighing in at 10lb 4 now and 50th percentile for all so all good :)

Lots of cute smiles from her at the mo....picture on my profile for anyone want to see my little smiler :)

If I don't get chance before, wishing everyone a very Merry Chritsmas & happy new year!

b00kw0rm · 22/12/2010 12:52

Hi all,

Another one with a sick baby here- James was blue-lighted to QMC yesterday afternoon with breathing difficulties and is now in intensive care on a ventilator... will hopefully be OK but will definitely be n hospital over Christmas Sad

We're not particularly religious but if any of you are then if you could hold James in your thoughts and prayers, it would be much appreciated!

I'll try and update more soon, but don't have internet access in hospital so it might be a while...

Haven't had time to read other messages so hope all the other babies are doing well and thriving.

hmmSleep · 22/12/2010 13:57

How very scary for you b00kw0rm, I'll be thinking of little James and hopefuuly you'll all be home and well really soon. xxx

Mibby · 22/12/2010 14:16

Will be thinking of you and James bookworm . Hope he's better soon

lainey1981 · 22/12/2010 15:04

b00w0rm Thinking of your family, hope little James is better very soon.

Also hope the other babies are on the mend - poor little things.

sarahbuff · 22/12/2010 15:08

So sorry to hear that bookworm, will definitely pray for baby James and hope you have as nice a Christmas as possible considering the situation. :(

Skye is very wheezy, coughing loads and has a bunged up nose which is no fun, I'm hoping she doesn't get bronchiolitis, it seems like loads of our November babies have gotten it! My boys were really ill last week and gave it to her, thankfully she doesn't have a temperature (my DS2 was ill with a v. high temperature all week)... Sigh I thought there was a reason I've always planned for spring/summer babies!

Fenouille · 22/12/2010 15:59

Oh so sorry to hear about all the ill babies. I'll be thinking of you all over Christmas and hoping for a speedy recovery for James.

PrivetDancer · 22/12/2010 16:22

b00kworm so sorry to hear about James :(
Sounds v scary - do they know what the matter is?
I hope he is home soon

Hope all the other poorly people are better soon too.

Evie is now over 3 weeks old and still not quite back up to birthweight. We have been signed off by the midwives now though and the health visitor seems fairly relaxed about the slow gain so I will try to be too!

Apart from the weight thing she is fab, she tends to feed all evening then can sleep from 11pm to 6am although if wake before that I do try and wake her at 4ish to try and get some more milk in her, but I can't bring myself to set an alarm so if I don't wake up then she doesn't!
It's weird, she only sleeps about an hour max during the day and so feeds every couple of hours, but come 11pm she is like a light switch and out for the count. I am not complaining! Just need to start flicking the switch a little earlier now :)

Wallace · 22/12/2010 20:35

bokworm - have james in my thoughts xxxxxx

KiwiKat · 23/12/2010 00:09

We also have a little one not doing so well - she was diagnosed with a rectovaginal fistula on Monday, which means she's been pooing from both her anus and vagina, and is in considerable discomfort. They've put her on antiobiotics, but it seems that there's little else they can (or will) do. We're going back for a checkup on Tuesday, and are booked in with a specialist on 6th January, the earliest appointment we could get. It's very worrying.

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

bunnygirl80 · 23/12/2010 00:41

bookworm I have you and James in my thoughts and prayers. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

kiwi sorry to hear about your DD's diagnosis. Hope the specialist can give you some good advice in the new year.

privet maybe Evie is getting enough milk in the day so she doesn't feel the need to wake at night - longer night sleeps are supposed to be one of the benefits of cluster feeding.

William had his 6 week check and vaccinations this morning. He's shot up from the 25th to the 60th percentile for weight Shock and is now a chubby 4.9kg. He's gained 500gms in 7 days, thanks to his feeding frenzy last week. He was very brave having his jabs - I was fighting back the tears though!!! He's currently sleeping in my arms as I feel too guilty about letting the nasty doctor stick needles in him to try and settle him in his basket.

sarahbuff · 23/12/2010 08:22

:( so sorry to hear that your DD is suffering, kiwi, that sounds awful. Hope the appointment goes well and they can do something for her quickly. Am quite surprised they wouldn't do anything else sooner, poor little thing.

Been up much of the night with Skye as she wouldn't settle and go to sleep for ages (even though she was in my arms!) last night, then she woke up furious that her nose was totally blocked... Then she puked everywhere which isn't normal for her at all (I think she gagged on the icky rubbish in her throat). So I got her all changed, fed her again and she finally settled down and fell asleep by which time it was nearly 7am so I gave up and had a shower. Now everyone in the house is fast asleep and I'm showered and fresh and knackered sitting on the edge of the bed with DH, DS3 and DD in it... sigh

Ebb · 23/12/2010 11:19

Bookworm so sorry to hear little James is so poorly. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Kiwi your poor daughter. Sad I hope the specialist can give you some answers. I'm guessing they'll need to operate to repair it?

Sorry so many babies are poorly. Apparently 1 in 3 babies will get bronchiolitus in their first year. My doctor said of every 20 babies who get it, 19 will fight it on their own and 1 will need hospital treatment. Thankfully Abbie seems to be a lot better today. She's still coughing alot but her breathing is much better.

Abbie eventually settled at 11.30pm last night but then slept til 6am, fed for a bit and went back to sleep at 6.30am til I woke her at 9.30am. My poor boobs! One was like a sprinkler by the time I got Abbie on! Blush

Still not ready for Christmas. I've still got bits to buy and presents to wrap and the enthusiasm and energy of a slug! I did post my christmas cards this week though. I expect they'll arrive by March........ Grin

umf · 23/12/2010 13:21

Hardly finding any time to post now, but following thread on phone and wanted to write v quickly to say sorry to hear of the poorly babies.

bookworm you and James are in my thoughts. We had the cotside NICU vigil with DS1. Awful, especially at Christmas. I hope J is getting good care and improving already.

Glad to hear Anna and Abbie doing well now.

Kiwi how worrying for you. I hope the specialist is a helpful one when the appointment arrives. Keep us posted, we'll be thinking of you.

Update here: Rocky is 3.5 weeks now, all fine, but I feel very tired and like everything's a bit much. BFing (and everything else) so much easier this time, but still finding the 24hr dependence claustrophobic. But should not be complaining while all healthy.

Fenouille · 23/12/2010 13:52

Kiwi that sounds very worrying, fingers crossed the consultant will have some solutions for you.

Privet I think we have the same baby. Norry didn't reach his birth weight for a month but the doctor was very reassuring at his 2nd month vaccination visit so having spent the last 6.5 weeks worrying about his weight I've given up and just accepting that he's a bit slow off the mark.

ebb very impressed at your Christmas card efforts. I'm planning to send seasons greetings with the birth announcement cards... sometime before his first birthday possibly Blush

sarah hope you get time for a nap later.

umf I normally wake up in a puddle of milk at some point during the night so have a pumping session if Norry isn't awake. I'm building up a stock for when I go back to work in March.

It's grey and miserable here so we're spending the day wrapped up warm in front of the Christmas tree. Might even have to make some hot chocolate later Xmas Grin

Fenouille · 23/12/2010 13:53

ebb not umf Blush

sarahbuff · 23/12/2010 19:20

:) thanks fen! 'Fraid in this house with 3 home educated boys aged 5 and under, napping is something I'm looking forward to doing in about 10 years time...
