Hi all fellow September mums. If I'm duplicating another thread please tell me. If not, would love to hear how everyone is getting on.
Tom is a week old today. All well - though has a slightly infected cord stump so am going to GP today.
I'm still madly hormonal, could burst into tears whenever I think about the impact all this has on my lovely dd (2y2m).

I also take my hat off to the expressing mums. The whole new baby thing is difficult enough, so having the time/energy to do even some expressing is pretty impressive. My ds was not a good feeder, so I ended up topping him up with formula (after each bf) - it was a hassel, but it worked for us and he was much more settled.

Sympathies to fellow-sleep deprived mums. Have tried to get to nap a few times this afternoon. I swear Grace knows instinctively when I leave the room. She sleeps much better when someone holds her, so my mum is on hand to do some cuddling while I sleep as I only got 2 lots of two hour sleeps last night. Luckily MIL popped in and ds decided he wanted to spend the afternoon with her (and she agreed) so at least he is somewhere safe and happy.

I think my honeymoon period of feeling happy and in control of things may be ending .

After me having been itchy for weeks (and with what I thought looked like bites of some kind) and DH being certain it wasn't anything biting me, yesterday he found some fleas. Not that they've been biting him but he now feels bad for not believing me. Yesterday there was much washing of bedding, and other flea dealing with.

Glad we have broadband as DH just called from nursery where DS was going today to say they think he might have chicken pox which is going round nursery.

ARGH. Help. Don't know if it is just that he has flea bites (which is also not nice). Worried about Alice now as well. What happens if little babies get chicken pox?

DH is coming back with DS now and we have an appointment at the doctor at 10:50. Have been told he may need to go in the "spot room".

And DH has horrible cold. I know I will be OK but feeling a bit wobbly at the moment. Feel a bit cross with the cat for having fleas, a bit itchy myself (although at least I haven't got chicken pox) and just wondering how we will all cope.

At least Alice continues to sleep at night .

KiwiKate · 10/10/2005 10:05

Oh PC, hang in there! Hopefully things can only improve!

PiccadillyCircus · 10/10/2005 12:30

It is chicken pox . But DH is going to work from home some days this week .

Redhelen · 10/10/2005 13:01

Thanks LL - you can probably guess what is wrong! I am so unlucky and so upset!

Hope to get all clear for Friday - or another course of antibiotics.

milward · 10/10/2005 13:05

Hello All xxx
pcircus - hope things get better & that it's not chicken pox. My dd3 hasn't had it yet & I know that it's only a matter of time before she & ds4 get it. My dd1 & dd2 had it one after the other - tough. Can only recommend medication to stop the itching & porridge oats in a sock in the bath to help sooth things.
All those not sleeping - mums & babies!! have been there. It's also hard. Be kind to yourselves. I found co-sleeping works for me as I can bf & sleep at same time. ds4 only slept alittle last night but at least I was in bed with him.
He had a check-up today - 5 kilos!! & 58cms !!Thought he had grow lots.
best wishes to all xxx

Hello Everyone - It's beautiful weather for a second day running where I am and as Conrad has just let me grab my first bite to eat today I'm going to take him another walk - If I take Baby-bjorn might just attempt a bus journey.

No wheels now DP is back at work

Hmmmm... DP just rang, asked me how much studying I managed to do last night I DIDN'T do ANY!!!! whole basket of Ironing/making supper/two wash loads/ teaching the Noop (dd) how to make biscuits/helping with homework/feeding Conrad - on and off throughout/and a bath (aaaaaah) later... It was time I got some shut-eye

Now I have the feeling I've not done enough to warrant his coming all the way up here twice a week to give me opportunity to attend lectures

Humph... didn't he get how busy a baby keeps you last week?

Moan over... Not really down about it, just peeved

{{{hugs}}} all those sleep deprived mummys, babes with Chicken Pox and DH's with Colds... it's demanding enough when things are going swimmingly xxx

beatie · 10/10/2005 14:57

I think Alice must have had a growth spurt. The past 2 days she was feeding constantly.

Sods law she slept all morning - now I have dd1 in bed and Alice is grizzling. I really thought I'd have time to type an update this afternoon. I hope I'll be back soon.

KiwiKate · 10/10/2005 22:58

Goodness Cabe! I wish I had the energy or inclination to do half as much as you. STUDYING indeed. You sound like Wonder Women already, without adding studying to the list. All I seem to manage these days is feed the baby, sometimes have a catnap, and sometimes read the odd book to my toddler.

I tried to do some work yesterday (I run a business from home) and was too mentally slow to make any progress

Cabe · 11/10/2005 02:06

KiwiKate... I think it's an illness!!!

I put my overactive-ness down to coming from a family of ineffectual men
Guess my sister and I always ended up doing everything... from cleaning and cooking to fixing the car (for car read ancient Land Rover)and chopping the firewood!!!

Female emancipation gone awry!?!?

Our partners love it though... We never expect too much from them

Feeling rather chuffed with myself as I have managed to write up my notes tonight

Cabe · 11/10/2005 02:10

Oh... find time to do much of this as I don't have to massage the over sensitive ego of a man on a permanent basis!!!

Now officially shattered though and can't believe the time!

Night night

jessysmummy · 11/10/2005 08:50

Wayhay!!!! I made it!!! Abigail Isobel arrived safe and well at 1.42am on Mon 10th Oct. 8lb 10oz. Didn't need inducing in the end - thank god. Did it all on gas and air - only took 3.5 hours. Back home later same day and now looking forward to spending some time with my newly expanded little family. Jessica taking well to new addition (so far). Hope everyone else is ok.
Catch up soon. JM x

PiccadillyCircus · 11/10/2005 08:52

Congratulations jessysmummy - and welcome to Abigail Isabel . Glad you didn't need inducing in the end.

PiccadillyCircus · 11/10/2005 08:53

Very spotty DS - I can't believe that yesterday morning there were about 3 spots and now there are so many of them.

Long day ahead - DH has gone to work and will be out at work thing in the evening. At least I have a health visitor visit to brighten up the day .

Redhelen · 11/10/2005 10:36

Congratulations JM... Hello to your new arrival Abigale Isobel, welcome to the world little one {{cuddle}} So chuffed for you that it all went well xxx

PiccadillyCircus · 11/10/2005 14:53

HV has been (and gone ) She talks a lot, but all is well (except for Alice's nappy rash poor thing) I am going to stick with just cotton wool and water (bad mummy using wipes sometimes ).

Alice now weighs 8lb 8oz, is 53.5 cm long and has a head circumference of 35.4 cm.

HV was impressed with my portable feeding style .

Katts · 11/10/2005 15:43

Congratulations JM! So who's left back on the antenatal thread? Is it just RZ now? Or have we all graduated?

Just wondering how long the post-partum bleeding has lasted for everyone else. First week was very light but last week and this week has been very heavy with big clots. Is that normal?

LadyLazarus · 11/10/2005 16:29

congratulations JM!

Katts - I am 4 weeks, and my bleeding has pretty much stopped (am able to wear just a panty liner, sorry if TMI!). On the postnatal ward, the midwife told me to tell them if I had any blood clots, so perhaps you should mention it to someone. Did you have a lot of blood loss in the birth? I did (450ml I think), so maybe thats why they were concerned.

beatie · 11/10/2005 19:30

Katts - the midwives at the hospital told me I should let the community midwife know if I passed any clots so I would mention it if I were you. Actually, I was told to save them if possible!

Alice is 3 weeks old today and I am still bleeding. I thought it had stopped at the weekend but then I went for a long walk and it resumed. It seems to occur each time I breastfeed.

PC - I am using water and cotton wool but I mix in some very mild baby bath (Infacare) and a splash of baby oil. I put it all in a small spray bottle. I found water alone could be too abrasive if the pooh had dried on her skin.

I'm a bit worried about RZ. I am hoping she's had her baby and is too busy at home to post yet. I am hoping she's not stuck in some dreadful hospital.

bubbles2904 · 11/10/2005 20:42

Hi all
PC, what was alices head circumference at birth? Mia's was 35 cm and i'm now thinking she must have a big head. They haven't measured her in lehgth yet as it's apparently in-accurate. what a load of rubbish

bubbles2904 · 11/10/2005 20:43

also, why is there not supposed to be clots in your blood? sorry.. having a stupid day today
