Thought we should update the thread! Grin

Ekaterina - Rolf - sprog away!! (Maximillian for a boy)

Rolf · 09/11/2010 17:20

Knitting Harriet Smile

Amber very impressive, you did better than us. But Maximillian is cheating as I'd pronounce it "Maximillyan"

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 09/11/2010 17:27

Well done spider so pleased you got your VBAC.

Thanks rolf send the Emily list this way too... I have ruled it out as it is too popular around here at the moment, but it is a lovely name!

Am a bit hacked off after my 38 week appointment today. Apparently it is local policy that if you are on your first pregnancy you can have a sweep at term, but they won't do a sweep for parous women until 40+7. I do not understand the logic, which the sister midwife that I saw today used to explain it - that in those who have had a baby already a sweep is more likely to be effective so they don't do it until 41 weeks? eh? so why not do it in those who it's likely to be effective instead of those it isn't Angry. I also brought up again that I don't want to go more than 10 days over, and I'm going to have to go to a consultant clinic at 40+3 to discuss this - what's the likelihood that they say something along the lines of 'that's fine, but we don't have any space for induction until , oh 14 days time'. arrrggghhh.

This baby had better decide to make it's own way here promptly, or my BP will be going up due to stress rather than pre-eclampsia.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 09/11/2010 17:29

rolf you could hyphenate to get to 5 syllables - the world is your oyster.

Rolf · 09/11/2010 17:36

Biscuits I'll post the Emily list once I have finished beating feeding my children.

When did C arrive? I can't remember if you were induced?
I'd be interested to know your thinking about going overdue or is it just knowing too much?

Rolf · 09/11/2010 18:24

"If you like Emily, you might love...

Amalia
Amelia
Amelia
Ellery
Emery
Emilia
Emiliana
Emlyn
Emmeline
Emmi
Emmy
Mallory
Millie"

It's really just variations on Emily isn't it, rather than other names that might also appeal Hmm.

I bet we can do better than that. Here's mine:

If you like Emily, you might love...

Elizabeth
Anna
Juliet
Sophia
Victoria
Alice
Eleanor
Susanna

They are pretty much on the "if you like Charlotte" list, though. Do you have a policy on names that end in "a', abbreviations (I think Evie goes well with Charlotte but would want it as a short form of Evangeline which may be more frou frou than you'd like?), how many syllables, how unusual??

Ooh, I love it when people have babies Smile

Spider I hope William is ok today.

systemsaddict · 09/11/2010 18:57

Rolf Emiliana has 5 syllables ... or Evangelina ... or Anna-Maria ...

Just saying!

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 09/11/2010 19:43

Love the name Harriet Smile.

That is a weird policy biscuits. Just waiting to hear from a friend of mine as to whether she's had her baby - she had her second sweep today (was due on 5th) and was 7cm dilated Shock but no contractions and no sign of the baby Sad. She's been told as soon as she has the first contraction she is to go straight to hospital cos labour will be fast and furious Shock.

OP posts:
Rolf · 09/11/2010 20:06

Hope your friend has her baby soon and safely Knitting. She must feel like a walking time bomb. FWIW I'd also advise her to make sure she keeps her phone charged up and on her at all times - no exceptions. And have the hospital phone number in it, but not to be at all shy about calling 999. If I hadn't had my phone on my, and my MW's home number, I'd have delivered T on my own.

SA ooh, I love Evangelina. When I thought the only option was Agippinilla there was no deal. If there's a 5-syllable boy's name on the table then maybe we'll be in business... Wink

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 09/11/2010 20:35

Rolf C was 10 days late, went in to be induced, although had started having contractions that morning. They've changed the policy on how long they will leave you since then though. AFAIK the risks of placental deterioration after 10 days late increase rapidly and I have issues with going over that. Knowing a little too much again I guess, as you said!

The Emily list is a bit rubbish compared with the other ones isn't it?! Evie is ruled out, C's wee best friend is called that (actually she's Evie Charlotte, so clearly my friend agrees with you!) We don't have a policy on syllables or names ending in a, I'd prefer to avoid top ten names, although I'm not stuck on that (you never know what's going to happen the next year!)

deb how's the back now?

knitting gosh, your friend msut be on tenterhooks!

SpiderWilliam · 09/11/2010 20:40

Evening all. V quiet on the ward tonight, just two of us, but at least she is chatty.

I'm probably not going to manage to respond to everyone but thank you anyway for all your nice comments. Sorry about causing tears.

Deb, why not become a health visitor? You'd be brilliant at that, and you would get to work with newborns but avoid all the messy stuff. After 3 of your own the training would be a doddle too.

William seems fine in himself, feeding well, copious peeing when DH took his nappy off Grin. He is on a 5 day course of a-bs now because some of his counts were raised. They are still waiting for path results over the next few days to find out what the problem is. There is some question over his kidney function but the paed consultant who specialises in renal stuff has looked back at his scan and is not too concerned although we will have to go back a week after discharge to get the bloods checked again. Umm, it's kind of wait and see.

Biscuits - sorry your 38 wk appointment was so annoying. There are obviously some discrepancies in the system as I was given one last week at 39. There is some chat in "Childbirth" about DIY sweeps Hmm you and your DH are drs: would be fine (that's a joke, sounds crazy to me). Would you consider acupuncture, or as a dr is that too much like quackery to you? There are two routes - weekly treatment from 36 weeks which is meant to stimulate blood to the pelvic area etc, or acupuncture induction which my neighbour had at 40+3 and her waters broke within the hour and her baby was born 6 hours later (first baby too). I have no idea if the two sessions helped me, but it did occur to me that being 2-3cm at 39 may have been the result of the acupuncture pushing things in the right direction.

Amber - sorry you won't get to try for a v-birth. The irony is that it looks like I will be in this time longer than I was after the section.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 09/11/2010 20:40

Rolf, I made this thread just for you. It will be interesting to see what turns up - the women on the names thread are scary!

DebInAustria · 09/11/2010 20:44

Rolf , here you go, Michelangelo and some others, someone explain Dwi to me!!!

Biscuits, back's bearing up thanks, good job ds1 is big and strong, he had to do the tip run with his Dad!!And our neighbour helped out loading the car with the really heavy stuff.

It's all a bit mad here, the car goes on Thursday but you have to take your number plates back to the insurance before the new owner drives it away, but obviously you can't drive without plates Confused so a friend is taking me to do that, the tip is only open twice a week, Tues and Fri so today was the last day we could get rid of most of the rubbish!!Removals are nearly booked for next weekend, 19th or 20th. Then we fly back the next day or so.

Rolf · 09/11/2010 20:53

Spider you sound chirpy but so sorry you're stuck in hospital. Is W with you or in SCBU? Has Peter met him? I hope P isn't finding it too upsetting having you away from home. Do you need book recommendations or funny websites? DH and DS1 are watching www.howitshouldhaveended.com/ which is making them laugh. Our book club read The Help which was v good and easy to read.

Biscuits I am shaking with laughter at your mad thread! Coriolanus is fabulously poncy, maybe too much so for suburban Liverpool, although I fear a 5-syllable-non-poncy boys name is quite a big ask Grin

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 09/11/2010 21:10

Terrible potential nickname for Coriolanus too, Rolf!

spider not sure about acupuncture, have tried it once for something else with no success. I am also not a hypnotherapy candidate, totally fail to get into a trance like state! However I may get desperate and it's not that I don't believe in it per se, just that it hasn't worked for me! The no sweep until 41 weeks is a local policy apparently and for the whole of greater Glasgow and Clyde Sad.

Rolf · 09/11/2010 21:11

Thanks Deb Grin. I love Valeriano, so i guess subject to going through the usual pretence that DH has some say in this, it's all systems go Grin. What the hell is the deal with Dwi??

After all these months of nothing, it's amazing how quickly the move is now happening isn't it? Are the boys excited? And I bet you and DH are too busy to be excited.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 09/11/2010 21:18

I think it's meant to be Dwiemanuele, otherwise Emanuele has no right to be there either!

Rolf · 09/11/2010 21:19

Oh blimey, what a nickname that would be Shock. DH likes Decima but we have to manage a few more babies first.

Hypnotherapy is more about relaxing than anything else, I found. I bet that starting to go into labour at 40+10 with C is a good sign for this one starting spontaneously. DS1 was induced at 40+10, and DS2 arrived at 40+1.

Rolf · 09/11/2010 21:37

Someone has suggested Ozymandias. Brilliant!

abdnhiker · 09/11/2010 22:06

rolf you're so going to end up with a 5th...

spider sorry to hear you're stuck in the hospital - I was stuck with fraser for 48 hours and it was so frustrating as I was pretty much ignored (and he didn't sleep at all for the first 48 hours so I was exhausted) and he was obviously so much healthier and robust than DS1 (who was 3 weeks early and breathed a bit funny - if he was my second I'd have been taking him into childrens to be checked instead of assuming that's what all babies sounded like).

love the name thread...

biscuits a gentle DIY sweep sounds reasonable considering your DH's profession... I think the rules re infection etc are a bit ridiculous considering sex is okay anyways...

DebInAustria · 09/11/2010 22:16

Rolf, yes we should be too busy and not on MN but here I am Blush

Ds1 is excited but ds2 is a little nervous, as he was only 3 when we moved here so he's very worried about school and how he will cope with the English.

systemsaddict · 09/11/2010 23:01

There's some good Catholic names on that boys' names thread Rolf!

systemsaddict · 09/11/2010 23:03

wouldn't Coriolanus technically contract to Cozza in the Merseyside area?

Rolf · 09/11/2010 23:43

Anything would be better than the nickname I refuse to utter Grin
Nebuchadnezzer = Nezzer
Bartolomeo is great too.

I told DH and he's all smiley!

Deb are the boys going to have a chance to have big goodbyes to their friends?

PiggyPenguin · 10/11/2010 09:33

I think you should definitely go for it Rolf, there are some great names on there!

Spider you sound as if you are coping really well with the extended stay. I'm sure Peter is missing you, but he will be fine and I bet he is really excited about baby William.
