Right then ladies, who's up for it? What day would be best and where would you like to meet? I can do any day really, but will have both DSs with me if we meet on Monday, Thursday or Friday.

katzguk · 17/09/2005 20:44

hmmm well obviously there are lots of places!! what do people fancy?

did suggest the winter gardens, nice inside space with a coffee shop but not enough seating for all of us. we could however go there after.

tribpot · 17/09/2005 21:25

Lua, it was a case of just choosing one of the ones we saw, househunting is just too difficult to repeat under the circs. Funnily enough, the one we've taken is the one I liked the look of best beforehand, but we almost didn't get to see it at all due the unbelievable crapness of estate agents. It was pure coincidence the tenant was in when we randomly turned up the day after we were originally meant to see it ... arrrrggghhhh.

Lua · 17/09/2005 21:57

Trib - it sounds like it is destiny! Hope it will be a happy home!

I don't really care what restaurant it is, now that the diabetes is gone! yey! as long as it isn't a steak house!

What does everybody else fancy?

eastyorksmum · 18/09/2005 10:08

well we could meet there because its near the trian station which i like the idea off im totally hopeless in new cities and i dont know sheffield at all.

Then maybe move on to somewhere else?

what do you think?

JonahB · 18/09/2005 17:37

I dont know Sheffield at all, so i'm afraid i can't contribute to this conversation. Could we meet somewhere which i can find relatively easily from the train station?

Trib, I read your message out to my DH - lol. He?s told me to tell you that it rains so much up north that the pigeons have webbed feet. Oh, and we all still wear clogs and all the streets are cobbled. These are all the things he was told when he moved up from the south, and he believed them (although admittedly, he was 10)

tribpot · 18/09/2005 19:25

Jonah, I think the webbed feet comment applies more to the people in Suffolk than the birds At my booking in appointment the midwife asked if dh and I were cousins, and I was so tempted to say "you must get a lot of that round here" but I nobly refrained

I have also noticed the following on my recent sojourn to the grim north of England:

  • you don't have much wine with screw tops. Normally I would applaud this but a bit annoying when you want to buy some and have forgotten your corkscrew
  • you have absolutely ghastly crappy little garages, here all of our garages are sparkly new things like BP Connect and swish Esso supermarket-style experiences. Up there the two I visited (not a very representative sample, admittedly) were the old-fashioned kind with like 6 tins of beans covered in dust as they've been there since 1953.

In fairness, I think the weather is considerably worse in Manchester than Leeds (and Glasgow than Edinburgh for that matter), but blimey it was cold. Dh and I used to live in a town where the sea froze for three months of the year though, so we can take it!

Lua · 19/09/2005 14:24

Katz - How about an italian place? I wassearching on the web. it looks there might be some. Buit you will know better

katzguk · 20/09/2005 11:41

hmmm food, theres a pizza hut in town, a pizza express and plenty of other such food places. The winter gardens/millenium galleries are a very short walk from the train station so we could meet there.

who's coming? and who's bringing who? please copy and paste from below and add you and yours!!

MrsWednesday · 22/09/2005 21:01

I honestly don't know whether I'll be able to come on Tuesday which is why I haven't replied yet (although I have been reading and chuckling about Trib's northern experiences - the weather has been glorious over the last few days, honest).

I've got a couple of other things I should do on Tuesday and I don't know how exhausted I'll be after my sister's wedding on Sunday. Sounds really crap I know. Will let you know for definite on Monday if that's ok.

I really hope you can come Mrs W!!

So we are meeting at the winter gardens, right? Where is it?

I guess it might be safer to make a reservation?

eastyorksmum · 25/09/2005 08:55

just hope i can work out this new buggy lol

eastyorksmum · 25/09/2005 08:56

katzguk · 25/09/2005 09:22

if so i'll meet you there, i'll be the one with a double buggy with a manic toddler in one and a crazy baby in the other!

Food - there are loads of places, if we are meeting at the station then we can catch the tram up into town.

Lua, are you planning to get the train as well?

JonahB · 25/09/2005 18:09

eastyorksmum · 26/09/2005 09:05

what time we meeting?

lua · 26/09/2005 11:47

Yep, we'll be coming by train too?
Do you want to ride together Jonah? I haven't look at the train schedule yet, but I would suggest trying to meet in the station around 12?
