Welcome to our new, cosy thread. Log fires, big jumpers and Christmas shopping Grin.

What do you mean it's still August?! Wink

PiggyPenguin · 14/09/2010 11:35

I'm finding it really hard to keep up with no internet access so apologies for not responding to things. Hugs to all though.

Rolf · 14/09/2010 11:58

DGT hope you're feeling ok this morning. Your evening sounds ghastly Sad.

Penguin v sorry about your kitten. How upsetting for all of you. And agree with Amber about the haircut. We call those sort of knickers butt floss Grin. I would never in a million years wear them unless I was dressing up as Jabba the Hutt in drag. Which I wouldn't.

Spider lol at you treating yourself to huge pants Grin.

AH DS1 loved Bob the Builder when he was 4. Is Bob still on? This is going to prompt a crisis about years going by too quickly. Anyway, he had a Bob outfit and toolkit that he loved, especially as we had builders in the house and he could "help" them. Spiderman outfit/figures? Anything superheroic. Lightsabres and swords were a huge hit for my boys at that age, and even now still come out occasionally, and always for visiting small boys.

Ktpie your boys sound very sweet together.

T is off at nursery. She was v excited going in, and wanted us to stay with her while she played, but cried when we left Sad. I'm sure she's ok now and I've got more jobs done in 90 minutes than I would normally manage in a day, but I really miss her. I need to get my head around this before I have a big meltdown about the children growing up too quickly. DD1 has to bring in some baby photos for school, and i realised that they are all on CDs or (I hope) backed up on computers. So sorting out all the family archive stuff, in the manner of a proper functional mother, would be a good start.

SpiderWilliam · 14/09/2010 12:26

Rolf I have "sorting out the photos" on the list of jobs to do whilst P is in pre school and before the baby arrives, along with all sorts of other jobs that it is wildly unrealistic to plan to do, and will also make me feel rather maudlin. Just about to pick him up now, having been to pregnant aqua aerobics. Feeling so hungry I have been forced to eat P's emergency raisins!!

DebInAustria · 14/09/2010 13:39

Oh Rolf you've left me with a lovely image of Jabba the hut in drag. Sorry there were tears today.

Penguin, what a shame about your cat and the knickers, not the most practical!

Goddess - get a gate for his door, and try that, anything is worth a try.

everyone else hello

My day started well, the postman arrived with 438 Euros in cash for us - a refund from the tax office, then I opened the post - 400 euro bill from the accountant and a 45 Euro fine for speeding...me Blushand in our village too. Having a rubbish time trying to decide on a school in the uk for the boys, proving to be a nightmare.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 14/09/2010 14:01

Thanks all for the supportive messages.

Spider I will email you my address via fb - many thanks!

We are going to order a gate for his room. I'm loath to put the sides back on the cotbed as S could climb out of it and it's potentially only just putting off the inevitable. One of the problems with the put them back into bed and leave is that he's so darned quick! His room is quite small but he can be out of bed and at his bedroom door in seconds and he can open the door too, so it's nigh on impossible to get out, close the door and close the gate at the top of the stairs before he gets there. Believe it or not, he can almost get to the door before we can!

Anyway, thanks again for all your support - I know lots of you have had all sorts of sleep issues so sorry for being a bit self-indulgent. DH is under strict instructions not to let him sleep for more than 45 minutes today. We're caught in a vicious circle obviously because he's sooooo tired because of late nights and he's shattered by lunchtime!

DewinDoeth · 14/09/2010 15:37

Oh, lots of people having stresses here. Sad

Penguin really sorry to hear about your cat. Sad Haircut - indeed, the difference is a week really. What has she done? Would it make you feel better if I said I've got dodgy hair at the moment? I'm growing it (i.e. not been able to get it cut Grin) and it looks quite weird - all different lengths, thin and pathetic. (For Rolf speaking of my very thin hair, I've got some stuff which makes it look better! Argan oil it's called.)

Domestic sorry about the sleeping. It sounds dreadful. I really don't know what to suggest (see earlier posts about not coping with willfulness! Grin) but I think persevere with it, like Amber said?

Deb sorry about the windfall being cancelled out. And the speeding, you boy racer you!

Loving the knicker chat - I've always been a big knicker girl. Grin I won't wear strings, no way! But my bum is one of my best bits; problem is that my tummy is always bigger than my bum so those knickers would be hidden. Tragic really, I look better from behind. Hmm
The other night I had cold feet in bed, and DH asked why I wasn't wearing my socks (for indeed, I wear socks to bed at all times). I explained that I wanted things to be a bit more romantic. He was ROFL at the thought of my concession to romance being taking my bedsocks off. Blush

I'm at home because my work computer is all broken in a strange way - it just won't connect to the network etc and nobody knows what's wrong! I'm one of several people and IT are 'investigating'. Plus, it might not work tomorrow either! Shock Bizarre.

No news otherwise - I keep sitting around imagining I have symptoms of pregnancy. Grin I have a lively imagination but I can but hope. Smile I also can't bear waiting! Grin

Does anybody live in/near Wiltshire? DH got me a bookbinding course for Christmas (yes, that's Christmas 2009...) and it's down in Wiltshire, and we're going this weekend. We're probably staying in a posh posh posh hotel Grin (largely because it has fab childfriendly stuff like soft play - I know, in a hotel! Grin) but DH is going to have almost an entire Sunday with nothing to do with Iestyn - anybody know of anywhere good that he can take him?

Amberc · 14/09/2010 16:11

No idea about where to take Iestyn but what hotel has soft play - do tell!!

Dewin I PMSL at your socks story!!!!

DewinDoeth · 14/09/2010 16:15

So did DH, Amber... I made a special effort for the babymaking! Grin

Ooh, now, it aint cheap but we haven't had a big holiday so we're splashing out...

How about this then Grin

Rolf · 14/09/2010 18:02

Dewin I am laughing my head off at your bedsocks story. One of our top moments in our marriage was when one of us said "oh all, right, so long as I can leave my socks and hat on" Grin

SpiderWilliam · 14/09/2010 19:14

Dewin - depends where in Wilts you are (q a big county), but Longleat is an obvious option for safari stuff. Didcot has lots of rail heritage stuff (I think), I'm a bit sketchy about what is in Didcot tbh but worth a google.

DebInAustria · 14/09/2010 19:14

Dewin, lol about the socks, sounds like me! Hotel looks lovely, have you been to Bradford on avon before? You must go to the tearoom there, their afternoon tea is a must, I can just taste the scones now!!Didn't have children when we lived there but there might be some ideas here

DebInAustria · 14/09/2010 19:20

the tearoom

abdnhiker · 14/09/2010 19:38

Amber even up here we've hotels with soft play - Crieff Hydro near Perth is my idea of heaven. The kids clubs are supposed to be excellent, when we went DS1 was too young for it, and there's soft play as well.

Dewin i wear socks too - love the story!

I only wear M&S plain cotton bikinis - DH says it's his prefered look (cornered him once in M&S with a pack boyshorts, bikinis, high legs etc and made him pick - he found it traumatic apparently). Lace sounds uncomfortable - I had sexy ones for our wedding but then chickened out at the last minute and went for plain white cotton.

Amberc · 14/09/2010 20:13

Dewin your hotel looks scrummy!

Oh I wear the dullest kecks known to mankind. I always have unless I was in the first throws of lurve and then wore matching sets of lacy stuff. None of that nonsense now - it's functional and comfortable!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 14/09/2010 21:04

I don't want to Grin too much, but DS is asleep!!!!!!! Grin Grin Grin

Now, DH sat with him until he dropped off, but there was no stroking or cuddling or anything and he wasn't doing his usual screaming to get into daddy's bed and trying to get more stories or toys or anything.

Anyway, while I've been obsessing about my own issues you lot seem to be talking about knickers and mucous! Grin I've definitely been favouring practical comfy knickers since having S. I do really need some new ones though. My knicker drawer is in a sorry state. I do like a good matching set. Whenever I buy a new bra (always bravissimo) I usually buy a couple of matching pairs of knickers.

Am using my evening's freedom now to faff about with photos on the computer and catch up on the Queen documentary that was on a while ago . I am a bit of a republican but I find the monarchy fascinating on a certain level.

neenz · 14/09/2010 21:48

Great news on the sleep DG. It sounds horrendous but hopefully you have turned a corner now. Just keep being strong and consistent. You're going great.

Penguin, so sorry about your cat Sad

Dewin, that is hilarious about the socks. I have to wear tiny knickers and no pyjamas to bed if I want to get DH going Blush. I wear tiny knickers all the time but they have to be silky ones for DH, not cotton!

I put Daniel down for a nap this morning in his room and he had a bit of a cry before dropping off. I was upstairs with the DTs, I was in my room with T and E was playing in her room. After about 5mins of crying E came in and said 'Can you hear Daniel crying?' in that tone of voice you might use when saying to your DH 'have you seen those pots that need washing' Grin. Cheeky! Then when I was changing her nappy she said 'cream on, I'm a bit sore' Grin. And Theo has taken to saying 'Oh my goodness!' HmmGrin

How amazing is this: I weighed myself Saturday and had only lost a pound in a week. I thought that can't be right cos I felt so much thinner. But I was full of milk cos I'd not fed Daniel. So I fed him and weighed myself again - I was 3lb less!

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 14/09/2010 21:51

DG, I cannot believe you would waste one second of your precious time watching anything to do with that awful woman Shock [woman]!

Glad your wee man is asleep though Smile.

No time to post as desperately need to go to bed, but just wanted to let the sexy bed socks lady know that this place is fab if the weather's nice. Have asked my friend who lives nearby what else she can recommend.

Bradford-on-Avon is absolutely gorgeous, so hope the sun shines Smile.

AH, lol at the traumatic knicker choosing for your dh!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 14/09/2010 21:54

Thanks Neenz. Your anecdotes about T and E made me chuckle. S comes out with such funny things just now, but I always forget them by the end of the day! Although yesterday I was changing his nappy and he said 'pooo-ey' and wafted his hand in front of his nose in a really exaggerated way. I'm always really impressed when he comes out with something new. Like yesterday we were doing a set of puzzles he has and then decided he was done so said, 'finished mummy, no play anymore put them away'. Ordinary stuff but amazing just the same (to me) Grin

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 14/09/2010 21:55

Lol at putting [woman] in brackets - I definitely need to go to bed! Grin

And lol at E telling you off for leaving Daniel to cry - you can remind her of that when she has kids of her own!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 14/09/2010 21:56

Lol Knitting - it's fascinating though Wink. Thoroughly enjoyed the sight of students being reported as singing vulgar songs during a protest at the Queen's visit to Stirling Uni. Grin

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 14/09/2010 21:57

Oh, well if it's stuff like that then I approve Grin Wink!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 14/09/2010 22:30

Am on to an episode all about how she didn't get on with Thatcher. So not all bad Wink

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 14/09/2010 22:33

Thatcher and the Queen in one programme???? Ohmigod - now you're definitely entering my Room 101! Grin

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 14/09/2010 22:41

Grin. You've got to know your enemy though!

KnittingisbetterthanTherapy · 14/09/2010 22:45

I know them all too bloody well sadly! Grin

Anyway, stop distracting me with all this talk of witches and parasites - I'm off to bed Grin Wink!
