pd hope your first day back is going ok and little Joe is happy with the CM

bmi- Elliott was well and trulyin the wars yesterday- after rolling off the bed- seemend to be ok but yesterday afternoon Rosie decided to shove him (he was sat playing) and he fell straight onto his face, had a massice nose bleed and has bruised his gum at the top so bad- poor lad has also cut 2 more top teeth and one more is just there under the skin- he looks so sore and needless to say is not very happ today!!!! DD got a very very very big telling off- leading to me crying as i felt like such a rcrap mom!

to top off m y bad day- we had to go see the physio at birmingham childrens as Rosie's hip is very still after her op- went and got fuel on the way only to have my bank card declined- we seem to have paid a dd twice and there is no money left til friday- grrrrr not what i needed! felt like a right idiot- luckily its quite common and the garage gives 7 day to pay! dh went last night after work!Blush

greeat to see you drskid

Arcadie hope your feeling better soon x how is your DH now- was telling my DH about the infection etc and he began to sweat- counts himself very lucky to have been totally fine since his in july!

Elk i am going in search of your toddler thread!

hi to anyone i have missed x

Arcadie · 05/10/2010 22:10

Thanks Sarah and BMI DH has his consultant appt on Thurs which I'm going along to as well so we'll know more then. It really helps to know that there are people who still remember it's on-going so thank you.

I've been utterly negligent in my MNing recently I know but put it down to TRYING to do the right thing and spend quality time with the kiddies..... and facebook Hmm

Oh... DS is awake Confused

Night night

evitas, we'll have to go back to our very complicated shift system where we take it in turns to pick up and drop off. It'll mean there will be some days when I'll have to drop everything and leave at 4, probably right in the teeth of a crisis. Can't do much about that.

Pacific, how'd it go?

Smac, sorry we won't see you.

Sarah, hope you sorted everything with the bank ok.

Alex has his first full day at nursery tomorrow. Fingers crossed it won't break my lovely boy.

Sariska · 05/10/2010 23:09

No, it won't break your DS, bluey - but, as my hairdresser said to me just before I went back after my first mat leave, I hope it doesn't hurt your heart too much. (Disclaimer: I know I'm going to feel just the same as you when I return to work in the New Year.)

How was your first day back, Pacific? Have you seen that thread (on Parenting, I think) by a doctor firmly on the Consultancy track who is thinking of giving it all up to become a SAHM?

Sounds like a rubbish day, Sarah. Poor you. And I hope E is more himself very soon.

Finally, Arcadie - I'm thinking of you and your DH. I hope it's good news. Be strong whatever happens (I am sure you will be) and don't forget that we are all here to listen when the kiddies get too much and FB crashes

donttrythisathome · 06/10/2010 08:46

Oh too much to do individual shout outs!

But sarah don't blame yourself. You don't have eyes on the back of your head.

RKD (see how clever I am I know what that stands for now Grin) thinking of your DH (not in that way).

Bluey ah it's probably harder for the mammies than the babies IFYWIM. he knows you love him.

Flip congrats on the 4 days. Fab. And best of luck to all those going back to work around now.

Sure I've totally insulted everyone I haven't shouted out to, but I have nappies to sell and buy on Cloth Nappy Tree! Smac thanks for that! I bought lots when I was still preggers. Like I literally had around 50 nappies!!

DD was over on the swings again yesterday. V cute.

Me and a mum friend are thinking of setting up a business together launching a new baby product!! Still very early days, and have my reservations about the amount of time it will take up, but very exciting.

evitas · 06/10/2010 09:10

Bluey I hope everything goes well at Nursery. I agree with sariska, it's going t be harder for you than for him. But with time you'll both get used

donttry a new baby product?! Very exciting! :) good luck. If you want to test your product before marketing it I think you are in the right place, I'm sure there will be volunteers in this thread :)

Pixie Glad you are feeling much better!

Another rubbish night. I'm not even going to bore you with the detail

x

FlipFantasia · 06/10/2010 10:54

Right, DS is napping, FIL is napping and I've got the laptop [settles massive bum onto the sofa for A Proper Catch-up]

Valium welcome back! Loved your FB pics - wedding looked amazing [melts at romanticism of it all] and it looks like you had great fun.

Arcadie your DH is v much still in my thoughts (but definitely not in that way, as donttry rightly points out) - am hoping you get good news at your consultant appointment. And hope you (and Simeon) are feeling better.

Pixie hope your cold isn't too bad and that DD2 is safely out of germ range. Is your DH back tomorrow?

PD loved the reminders of the bathtime rule Grin. Hope your first days back went well and that Joe is doing grand with the CM. What Mothers Do is amazing - I've thought about going to talks run by her but haven't been brave enough...fear I would be a bit of a fan and possibly scare her with my admiration BlushGrin

Bluey sorry to hear you didn't get your flexible working request - was that during your first ML or did I miss it recently? I had expected a refusal but it turns out my manager was expecting me to ask for part-time hours (which would be impossible in this role) and was preparing to counter with a proposal to compress hours so was happy/relieved when I asked for compressed hours in the first instance. Hope Alex is enjoying nursery! I agree with the others, it won't break him but it may break your heart a little...

Sariska congrats on auntiedom! Hope you get to Edinburgh soon for some newborn cuddles with your new nephew. I'm glad to know you're a fellow compressor and that it's worth it.

[DS wakes up and won't resettle so Catch Up continues with DS attached to boob]

Donttry have fun on cloth nappy tree! What are you selling [nosey]? And exciting about new product launch - shall you be able to reveal details tomorrow? Or does it need to stay hush hush [taps side of nose conspiratorially]?

Smac while I'm sorry you won't be able to make it tomorrow it sounds like the right thing for you. Hope your girls avoid the chicken pox though! Night nappies: I generally use a tots bots bamboozle, with an extra bamboo booster (also have a nighttime milk guzzler) and a fleece liner (bamboo stays so wet) covered by the motherease rikki wrap or a bummis super whisper wrap. I have been known to stuff a BG or a fuzzi bunz with bamboo if I'm stuck but definitely not as good as two part system. Bamboo takes so freakin' long to dry but otherwise I heart it for its absorbency...OK, nappy ramble over!

DrSkid also love this age Smile - so cute and rewarding.

Evitas sorry to hear of the rubbish nights - really hope they improve soon.

Ang Grin at the hamster - there's one in my head too I sometimes think! Which is why I was amazed on Monday at how I managed to sound "normal" in my meetings, rather than the nervous, sleep-deprived wreck I felt like!

BMI two hour nap - how nice! Maybe all her crawling is wearing her out Smile

Sarah sorry to hear of E being in the wars - the joys of being the youngest I guess. Hope things are calmer now (well, as calm as they can be with a toddler to "help" you mind E!) xx

Big hello to everyone I've not name checked (typing is awkward with a baby on my right boob...a baby who appears to have fallen asleep again but I'd MN awkwardly than transfer him back to his buggy Blush)

The big news here is that my period seems to have returned. I'm Hmm because am still feeding a lot (and 4/5 times a night) but I'm also kind of Smile because it's like my body telling me that it would be ready for another baby (which helps in making a decision about whether to go for another round of IVF in the new year).

Am comedy excited about tomorrow! Hope I don't scare you all off with my hairy truckerness enthusiasm...

evitas · 06/10/2010 11:16

Your advice on our sleeping problems is welcome here

sunshinesarahandco · 06/10/2010 13:30

hey everyone! elliott much better today- so all good! Rosie has been at nursery all morning and i have been sat drinking t with an old friend- cant grumble!

thanks for all the shout outs-

very jealous of tomorrows meet!

scooby26 · 06/10/2010 13:39

Morning all

Hope you all enjoy your london meet up!! Wish we were there. All on track for a scottish meet up 7th Dec though.
evitas sorry your sleep is crap. I really hope it turns a corner. Ill pop and look at your thread.

flip congrats on your work compression and bluey sorry you didnt get what you wanted.

I'm back on Monday (nightshift - boooo)I get 4 weeks part time working and then Ive got all this years holiday to take so really im not in much until the new year. I'm thinking of asking to go part time (32 hours insteaad of 40 hrs) Sadly nothing is ever easy to get in my job. The whole process can take up to 14 weeks to agree by the time the request bounces backwards and forwards and up the ranks trying to find a compromise. I'm not looking forward to the potential fight. I'm hoping to be suprised and get what I want Hmm Hmm Popped into my last place of work today with DS to collect my belongings. My boot is full now so I'm thinking I might go to new place when DS gets up and dump it all off there!

Hope you all have a good day xx

Flisspaps · 06/10/2010 13:41

Have missed lots and lots here...hello all! Not even going to think about attempting shoutouts.

Has been a bit mad with trying to get my head round childminding stuff (there's so MUCH, and DH just moans about me being on the computer working and not sitting with him when he gets in from work Hmm) as well as chasing a mobile baby round the living room all day (very envious of those of you who don't have crawlers yet, anyone fancy a swap?) and a sudden lack of sleep caused by DD deciding that her cot is no longer suitable but Mummy or Daddy's arms will do nicely Confused. Have kept up as best I can on facebook, but it's not the same as having time to come on and read here.

Hope all are well, evitas - I have replied to your sleep thread, no advice but I feel your pain!

MummyElk · 06/10/2010 14:38

also a drive-by-MNing, sorry chaps

to all and nice to see lurkers and regulars alike! Grin

Looking forward to tomorrow!
The Sling arrived - anyone remember I accidentally bid on an item and then won it and then couldn't tell DH cos technically i'm broke and yada yada and then they sent me a photo of the package "to prove we are serious" Hmm ANYWAY it arrived! and It's NICE!!! will prob bring tomorrow. i think it's a knock off ergo/yamo thing from some chinese sweatshop company but still.

and I have a question to ask. My brother is getting married in Australia at the end of the month in a shock visa situation thing (he loves his girlfriend and they had it planned for next year but work etc means it's easier to do it now and celebrate later). SO. this side of the planet pond we are all a bit sad cos we'd like to be there. For various reasons my Mum can't. So.....i sort of had a thought that perhaps I could go???? Just me and DD2?? think i'm mad? I can't see it would be that awful would it????
thoughts pls.

pd hope work going ok
rkd thinking of you tomorrow

to rest

Arcadie · 06/10/2010 14:56

Melk - do the wedding. You'll make it work!

OP posts:
evitas · 06/10/2010 16:23

Hi,

Fliss, Scooby, Flip, RKD thank you.

Melk that sounds very exciting! Don't think twice: GO! :)

I guess the thread will be silent tomorrow, all the action will be happening in London :) Very Envy

x

Sariska · 06/10/2010 16:47

Yes, go to the wedding, Melk. Your brother will surely appreciate it and your mum be glad that someone from the immediate family is going. No idea what a flight of that length would be like with a toddler but people do it more than once so it can't be thaaaat bad. Maybe your GP could help out with sleep-on-long-flights medicine... Maybe.

Am also comedy excited about tomorrow, Flip. And a little nervous. DH thinks it's hilarious, me haring off to London to meet a bunch of Internet strangers Grin.

Off to look at Evitas' sleep thread now and then to do nursery pick up.

FlipFantasia · 06/10/2010 17:25

Melk my advice would be: do it! You could make it work and it would be a very special thing to do...

Sariska my DH also thinks it's v funny!

Scooby returning to nights - that's impressive (my DH still moans talks about a year and a half he spent working nights and that was nearly a decade ago...). And am impressed with 40 hours - I'm at the office usually for over 40 hours a week but am contracted for 35 (since I officially get an hour for lunch every day...which is a big con as who ever takes an hour for lunch??) but couldn't imagine being contracted for 40 hours! I'd say ask for the part-time - the worst is that you'd be in the same situation you're in now (ie you keep full-time hours).

[heads off to check Evitas' sleep thread]

scooby26 · 06/10/2010 17:41

Flip- I work 7 nights in two blocks every 5 weeks. Have done for 13 years. Have to. Its part of the job to keep the world safe.

MELK- go to oz. I've been twice an it fine. My twin went two years ago to a family wessif I couldn't make- with a 7mth old and a 2.5yr old. Better now than before walking!!!

scooby26 · 06/10/2010 17:44

MELK- soz meant for a wedding. And point being it all went well x

MandaHugNKiss · 06/10/2010 18:33

melk If other logistics do not prevent you from going (childcare for the elk, cost of flight, house and home imploding from the lack of your prescence...) then DO IT! Aside from other reasons already put forward, I just think that certain experiences only present themselves once, if at all, in our lives; It will be an adventure! And I think that you'll be surprised at the kindness of strangers when it comes to 24hrs of travelling with a baby Smile

Ugh on the nights thing. I had to do a week of nights every three months when in the prison service. I actually like working nights, being an owl naturally. But the other side, getting back in to a day schedule always killed me.

Who mentioned their baby grinding teeth? James has two formidable pegs on the bottom but today one of the top has bearly erupted and he's grinding already. It's HORRIBLE!

arcadie I've also had you and your DH's ishoo in my thoughts. I haven't said 'I think it's likely to just be a lingering infection/abcess and not, y'know, the other worry' as how helpful is that, really? But... I appear to have just said it anyway, indirectly. Well, perhaps my positive thoughts will sway things my way - lots of good luck for his appointment, really hope it gets sorted.

flip I never took a lunch hour when working in an office. It was only after about six months that I finally spoke to my department manager (I was only young and wimpy not as assertive as I am now) and said that as I never took my lunch hour I'd like to leave earlier. He agreed I could! That said they were very accomodating there.

Darn it.

TooBlessedToBeStressed · 06/10/2010 19:44

just a quick hi to everyone,

just so i don't get a smack on my bum from smac:o,i am actually booked tomorrow for a pap smear, wish me luck

scooby26 · 06/10/2010 20:08

flip its 40 hrs because we dont get a lunch break. We HAVE to work through it. As an emergency service we can't just not go to something or leave when we are already there nust to have a bite to eat and cuppa - nice though that would be. Reality is that in busy places we never ever ever get a break and in quieter ones you could every day- no middle ground!! All that said I wouldn't have it any other way.

SmacsGonePotty · 06/10/2010 20:54

Oh big day all round then tomorrow. Positive vibes for you and DH arcadie, big brave girl vibes to toostressed and rebecca for their smears and lots of fun and laughter and happy, well behaved babies for all of you on the southern meet up. I'm very Envy
More fing fox shit and toddler diahhorea here todaySad oh joy.
ang chuckle at the 'pocket nappies' revelation!
donttry I don't even have 50 nappies and until recently I had 2 in cloth nappies (DD1 still at night)
flip good choice re bamboozles boosted and rikki wrap that has worked the last two nights Grin
Oh and Auntie Sariska big congrats. I'm chuckling at Brucegate.
pacific how was work?
pixie it's almost Thursday Grin
Melk GO GO GO to Australia. It will be fine, you have a new sling, what more does a mummy need Wink

SmacsGonePotty · 06/10/2010 20:59

oh and I'm sulking in a very toddler like fashion
