hey Pip - funny I was just wondering the same thing re FF DS, he's on Aptamil but I want to try Hipp Organic, but I'm worried changing it will give him tummy probs... also I have no idea which one is 'best' if any of them are. MW gave us Aptamil, so Aptamil it has been since hospital top ups... advice would be great!

Any of you lovely ladies with SPD find you're getting worse? It could just be me but the past few days my relatively pain free progress has done a major backslide. just went to the supermarket to get more formula and the pain on my pubic bone was back, as well as the hot pain down my inner thighs :( have been without crutches for 2 weeks and am hoping I've just overdone it, not that it's going to come back. Are you guys feeling better/worse/the same now post delivery? I saw a private physio in late pregnancy who was fab but v expensive (I was desperate!!) and I know she would see me again if I needed help, just hoping I don't have to as like you Pip money is tight. Do you have any exercises/advice from your physio looLOO? many thanks!

Evening girls :)

Welcome to ruffles and hedgehogs and congratulations on your new little bundles :)

nina very Envy at you using cloth bottom nappies! I wanted to use re-usable nappies but I couldn't convince dh into it. So disposables it is (although to date I think he's changed 3 nappies - seriously!!) Also Grin at your pillow crease! :):) At least you got an afternoon nap!
Not sure why your SPD is playing up again - perhaps mention it to your HV??

LooL00 - Sorry you're still having SPD problems, hope it improves soon for you. It sounds like you've got a good sleeper there with your dc3! I guess we're the lucky ones as Corey is a good sleeper too - the first of my 3!! The other too were monsters when they were babies!

pip I agree time is passing incredibly quickly! Corey is 7wks old tomorrow, can't believe it.
WRT Formula milk. When I bottle fed my first 2 dc I had to change their milk more than once. With dd we started on Aptamil initially then like you realised the cost was significantly higher than other formulas - so we switched her to Farleys. When she was a bit older (I can't remember when sorry) she started refusing her milk so we switched again to Cow and Gate which she was fine with. She's 5 now and not so fussy what she eats Grin. With ds1 we started him on Farleys but we once went to the shop for an emergency replacement tin after running out and they didn't have any - so we bought cow and gate and left him on that. Didn't have any problems at all that I know of xx

We have HV coming tomorrow and am quite looking forward to seeing her again as I've only met her once before. Corey isn't pooing! Ever since he was given Nystatin drops for thrush his whole pattern of pooing changed. Before he was dirtying every nappy and now it's one nappy every few days. He's currently on 5mls of lactulose twice a day but it doesn't seem to be doing anything other than giving him smelly gas. He farts A LOT!! lol.

Anyhooo...gonna go sidle off to bed and hope he doesn't choose tonight to be a bad sleeper :). Feeling shattered today as have moved some bedroom furniture round upstairs - should probably have left it for dh at the weekend but hey ho.

Love to all xxx

LooL00 · 20/08/2010 09:43

Hi everyone and welcome ruffles and hedgehogs.
nina my spd comes and goes at the moment, but I'm avoiding supermarket trolleys and vacuuming the 2 big nonos of spd. I'm not seeing the physio until sept 15th as she's on holiday and then postnatal doesn't get priority ( quite reasonable i think) . She told me to do pelvic floor exercises from 3 days postnatal and it's ok to sit on the gym ball but no exercises with the elastic band and gym ball until I see her. Why can't you see an NHS pyhsio?

You TOO pip !Can't believe we have 4 ex spd sufferers on this thread!

cherrypie is Corey still ebf? Because bf babies often don't poo for ages there is probably an old thread on it if you do a search. DC3 is pooing less often than a few weeks ago but it's still projectile! I'm an expert at catching it with a wetwipe these days. She's also become fartier over the past week.

duejuly2010 · 20/08/2010 15:47

Hey all, can I join? DS1 was born on 21st July weighing 6lb 7oz the day before my elective section he arrived naturally in an hour!

Anyhoo, he's 4 weeks old now and I'm just about surviving the madness of school hols and 2 bored DD's...groan...

Cherrypie, what you said about the Nystan really rung a bell with me. DS and I had thrush/ductal thrush starting about 3 weeks ago and DS has also gone from hourly pooey nappies to one every few days. Spoke to the hv yesterday about it and she said it was ok as long as it's not more than a week. DS finished the bottle of nystan yesterday so will be interesting to see if he gets more frequent dirty nappies. Didn't link the two but they might be related.

Anyway, hello all, I appologise about all the talk of poo Grin

PipIsOutNow · 20/08/2010 17:04

yeh it's Aptamil that Finn is on...they put him on it in hospital and I just kept him on it not even thinking I could've changed it. It wasn't till the other day in Tesco when I realised just how much more expensive it is than the other formulas!!I don't want to upset his tummy tho for the sake of money that's why I thought I'd ask.

Yes I had SPD too...wasnt as bad as everyone elses. Had physio, a support belt etc but I was in a lot of pain towards the end, crying at night coz of the pain :( I also had Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and lost the feeling in the fingers of my right hand!! But happy to say that I'm all ok now!!

Finn was only sleeping 2-3 hours last night between feeds because he was only taking 2-3oz instead of his usual 5oz...lets hope tonight it better!! I had hoped he'd start going longer without food in the night - maybe it was just an off night.

Sorry for totally self indulgent post!! Hope you and your 'beans' are happy and well...got to go, Finn is shouting at me!!

Lost this on my Threads I'm On due to not posting! Not much to report except that I hired one of those baby swings today that are battery-operated as dd2 wants to be held and rocked LOADS which I would love to do (while watching crap TV Grin) except that I have a 2 year old to look after as well..

Anyway, the swing is great and has been useful for putting her in while i get things done.

Do babies have their first jabs at 8 weeks in the UK then? I'm not in the UK and dd2's first lot of jabs are this week - she's 6 weeks.

I didn't get SPD thankfully, it sounds very painful. Well, I ahd a couple of days of pelvic pain at about 32 wks then it went away - weird. I had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in 1st pg - used to wake up with numb hands - but not this time round. All in all, feel pretty recovered for 6 wks after a c section - think an elective is much easier to recover from than an emergency one.

LooL00 · 21/08/2010 19:52

Hi duejuly,gemma and 2ndcoming.
Sorry you've been hving bad nights pip hope last night was better. DC3 is a great sleeper so far, but I'm waiting for it to change as I never had it so good at night with the other 2. She wakes at about 2 then about 6 and goes back to sleep no bother after I've fed her. Then she goes back to sleep and i hear dc1 getting up,so no more sleep for me!
Glad the pooings improved cherrypie have you got a LO starting school in Sept?Anyone else? I've got dc1 going into year 1 and dc2 starting reception,so the house will be quiet until dc3 learns to talk! All 3 dc are asleep so I'm off for an early night.

LooL00 · 21/08/2010 19:55

Yes whatshesaid we have jabs at 8 weeks( i thoughtit was 2 months but they sent me an appt for exactly 8 weeks) then 12w then 16w. And then nothing until 12 and 13 months.

CherryPie3 · 24/08/2010 19:36

Hello :)

Loo Yep I have dd going into year 1 next week and she's very excited bless her, ds1 is on morning lower foundation (nursery) class until January then he'll be all days in upper foundation (reception). He's excited too but not half as much as me knowing it will be just me and ds2 for a few years GrinGrinGrin

hello to 2ndcoming congrats on your new baby xx

Hope everyone is well - got ds2's 6wk check tomorrow (at 7.5 wks but hey) - got to take all the dc's with me as my um has a dentist appointment that she can't miss. God I hope they behave!!

BTW how does everyone discipline their children when they misbehave? My older kids at the moment run rings round me cos they know I can't really do much about it whilst breastfeeding. Right now they're out of their beds and I don't know what to say to them anymore - I've tried 'you're grounded', no more tv night's, no sweets, no baking, and so on. NOTHING WORKS!!!

HELP!!!

xxxx

BodyUnknown · 25/08/2010 18:02

Hello July

I'm fairly new on Mumsnet - I joined when I was around 35 weeks pregnant (sadly I never found the July antenatal thread) and wish I'd joined earlier. I've only posted once until now but I have turned to Mumsnet so many times in need of reassurance and information, particularly in the middle of the night since my daughter was born!

Severine Ivy was born on 7 July 2010 weighing 7 lb 10. She came on her due date, but I went into labour two days earlier and I had a pretty horrible time with the baby back to back, made bearable in the end only by a wonderful midwife and an angel of a student who stayed overtime to deliver my baby.

Severine is my first, and is now 7 weeks old. I'm exclusively breastfeeding, and I go back to work in December so I'm currently investigating pumping options... I have a Philips Avent manual pump and only manage 2 oz per day, am considering investing in the Medela swing pump, I don't suppose any of you are pumping and have any recommendations or advice?

I look forward to getting to know you all!

LooL00 · 26/08/2010 09:21

Hi everyone! DC3 got overtired yesterday and went bananas at bedtime so we're having a quiet day in, not sure what the other dc think of that. cherrypie I've been threatening all sorts this week and have come to the conclusion that it doesn't work with stuff like not getting to do things. They've got to see it happen straight away so I take toys away and put them where they can see them and they can't use them for a day.mine are running rings around me at the moment.
Hi bodyunknown I used the medela mini electric with dc1 and it was SOOO noisy. It worked well though. You can hire pumps from NCT too.

CherryPie3 · 27/08/2010 20:00

Whoop!!

I'm getting a new pram!!

I have a m+p pliko pramette - getting a m+p herbie in hot n bothered. 2nd hand but has only been used 6 times and still smells new. Comes with carrycot and footmuff, change bag etc - £100!!!!

Sorry - just had to tell someone. Soooooo excited :)

How is everyone?
Only 6 days til school starts!! Thank god - I think I might be wanted for double murder the way they are behaving!! They're just so bored, and I think a bit jealous. They weren't like this before C came along - not that I'd change anything. He's currently snuggled into my chest fast asleep!!

He slept through last night - was very Confused when I heard him crying this morning and I didn't need the lamp on Grin. Have felt much more refreshed today and much more patient with ds1 and dd.

Hello to bodyunknown and congratulations on your baby girl. I'm sorry I don't have any experience of pumping so I'm unable to offer any advice on that I'm afraid.

Hope you're all well and busy with little ones - it's very quiet.
Love to all

xxxx

Spirael · 30/08/2010 11:05

Hi all! Can I join in? :) DD1 was born on 7th July at home and clocked in at 8lbs 3oz.

BodyUnknown, I express pretty regularly; Partly to let DH have a go at feeding, partly because I'm doing some days at work soon, but mostly because it's the best way I've found to cope with the daily evening cluster feed between 5pm-10pm continuously. Wink

I normally express at about 10:30am for 30-40 mins (Guess what I'm doing now. Wink) while Mindy naps. I use the Philips Avent Isis Electric, which gives a yield of between 4-6 fl oz in a sitting. Keeps her satisfied between 7pm-9pm normally!

[Waves at CherryPie!] We're finally in the same place! Our LOs still seem to be mirroring one another... Mindy has just started sleeping through as well. Grin In the last three days we've had 10pm-5am, 10pm-7am (!) and 10pm-5:30am. I feel better rested than I have since Easter!

LooL00 · 30/08/2010 11:15

Hi everyone!
Welcome spirael!

Dc3 has started sleeping better too. She goes to bed at 7pm and can now make it til 3 or 4 am.

Congrats on the new pram cherrypie I'm tempted to do the same but we've already got 2! I'm desperate for school to start too but also a bit worried about being alone all day with dc3 and getting bored.

WhatSheSaid · 01/09/2010 08:49

Wow I'm jealous of those of you with dcs sleeping 7 hour stretches, the most dd2 manages is about 4 hours when she goes to sleep in the evening. If she only wakes twice in the night it's a good night. Totally different from dd1 who slept much better.

I think she has a bit of reflux though - lots of crying and looking vry uncomfortable and squirming and puking. My dr suggested I give up dairy to see if it makes a difference and I think it is - last few days have been much better.

RufflesKerfluffles · 02/09/2010 08:38

Hello everyone,

BodyUnknown - I have a Medela Swing, and it was fantastic in the first week, when DS wouldn't latch on and we had to cup feed him. However, I've never tried anything else, so can't really compare.

We've been struggling with low weight gain- it took DS three weeks to get back to his birth weight, and then he only put on 1 1/2 oz the week following. However, when the HV came on Tuesday, he'd put on 5 1/2 oz in four days, so am hoping we've turned a corner now.

CherryPie3 · 05/09/2010 10:25
Angry

just typed a big long post and ds1 erased it!!

it basically said...

Hiiiiiii spirael glad you found us!! And glad things are going well - think you're a bit bonkers going to work tho Grin. I'm steering well clear of my hellhole of a workplace!!

ruffles we're going through slow weight gain too. HV said because C was huge at birth (8lbs4oz @ 36+1) he's just averaging out and she's refusing to weigh more than once a month. It also took 3wks for him to reach his birthweight again.

And the Herbie is fantastic!! Love it cos it's soooo easy - bit bigger when folded but lighter and takes seconds to put up - and from me thats saying something!! :):):)

What pram does everyone else have??? Grin

take care everyone xxxxx

LooL00 · 06/09/2010 12:00

Hi everyone!!
DC3 is very snuffly at the moment. We're on 'slow' wieght gain too! dc3 was 9lb 6 oz at birth and to me it's obvious that she won't stick to the 91st centile but the health visitor was winding me up about it. She's put on 2 lb in a month and is 'only' on the 75th now!!Wish I had your HV cherrypie!

My pram is a pliko pramette (fits in the boot of my hatchback) I also have a phil and teds in the loft that I'm going to start uusing when dc3 can sit up a bit. What pram does everyone else have ?

dc1 and 2 are at school and it's very quiet!

Spirael · 06/09/2010 14:00

Afternoon all. :) Weight gain here was a little slow too, but DD was up to 11lbs at 8 weeks and everyone seems pretty happy with that.

Probably just as well, as I'm running out of time in the day to feed her! I just can't seem to get the food into her fast enough sometimes. Shock

I'm only doing one or two days a month in work as Keep In Touch days, CherryPie - mostly since it makes financial sense with the money top up. Wink Also gives DH a day of Daddy/Daughter bonding time with DD.

As for prams, I have a Britax B-Smart 4. :) I'm mostly using it with the Safe Sleeper at the moment, but once DD outgrows that then I'll shift to the main seat unit.

I love the B-Smart, it's very robust and I feel confident it'll stand up to anything I throw at it. But it's not the smallest or lightest. Fortunately I rarely frequent little shops or use public transport!

ninaandbean · 07/09/2010 12:05

hello! Been away for a while... quick update, DS's 6 week check was last friday, he has infantile eczema so no more baths except once a week :( I'm really sad! He likes his baths. Also we have to use horrible chemical smelling moisturiser for the forseeable instead of lovely smelling johnsons stuff. And he has Nystatin for oral thrush... boo. That stuff smells awful! As for me, my SPD is definitely not gone, I'm fine in the house but as soon as I go out with the buggy for a walk I'm in pain and it goes on for days afterwards. Feeling a bit fed up!!

Also, an update on changing formula, we switched DS to SMA Gold because we got caught out at FILs house when our car broke down and we couldn't get home, luckily had packed everything else so it wasn't a problem to stay the night, but the local Tesco only stocked SMA. And it was a disaster! We switched straight over which I now realise isn't a good idea, but we had no choice, and as a result he had horrid clay like black poo after being constipated for a few days which was so upsetting - he screamed and screamed and screamed... so we're going back to Aptamil quick sharp and just going to have to budget better.

Speaking of budgets, currently I only have 20 pounds in my pocket at the beginning of each week for me and DS to do things with, or to buy 'extras' for DS. Any suggestions on good cheap things to do? I have found free reading clubs at the library for babies, but not much else. Once you factor in bus fares, we just don't have cash left over for things like baby groups/buggy walking clubs etc. Suggestions welcome!

We have the Britax B-mobile by the way, it's great, folds down really small and is compatible with his baby car seat (which faces me). It does go flat so he can use the buggy but it faces out so we don't use that yet, just pop the car seat on the top.

LooL00 · 08/09/2010 09:43

Hi everyone, it's raining here today and I'm wondering what to do with dc3 all day.
nina i've been trying to decide what to do with dc3 and outings. We have a parent and toddler group that costs £1.50 and baby rhyme time at the library is free. Once she's bigger we'll go for walks more and feed the ducks but at the moment most activities you pay for are a waste of momey unless you meet some nice mums to spend time with. When i had dc1 the hv ran a baby group (20p!) and that's where I met my friends with kids.IMHO buggy walking clubs are a waste of money. Anyone found a good out of the house activity for a 2 month old? dc3 would rather stay at home all day and just eat and sleep.

I've got a physio appt for spd next week. I've been walking 3 miles a day (school run) and am very achy so maybe she'll sort me out. I'll report back!

dc3 is getting into a bit of a routine now, she sleeps from 7pm til 3 or 4 am then I feed her again at 7am before the other dc go to school, and again when we get back from the school. A friend lent us her baby gym (can't find the bendy bits for ours) and dc3 LOVES it.

WhatSheSaid · 10/09/2010 08:17

We just have a cheapy pram - it was dd1's - it was one of the least expensive ones that went flat for a newborn, then goes more upright as they get older. I think the brand is called Mothers Choice, it was about 50 quid. It is really light, folds up easily, is pretty small in the boot of the car and has a huge basket underneath that fits in lots of bags, shopping etc.

Activities - I think any activities at this age are for the mum really as the baby doesn't really need them yet - we have people starting to come to playgroup with babies a few months old, to meet other mums really. Our playgroup is about 1 pound a time, which includes tea, coffee, snacks etc.

Dd2 has been diagnosed with silent reflux and started medication for it yesterday. She's already sleeping better - she was waking 6 or 7 times a night sometimes, crying in pain and I was getting to point of being absolutley shattered, what with looking after her and dd1 all day too. Meds already helping - she's much happier. So relieved I trusted my instincts and went to the drs.
