Thought it might be nice to do a Lefties revival thread to watch it unfold

Brace yourselves everybody...

I'm happy public sector salaries are frozen - our household is happy to take that small pay cut for the next 2 years.

Our family got away too lightly unfortunately.

I am fed up my dh has only been teaching a couple of years i'm sahm so on his income its now frozen for 2 years , so is CB for 3. We live fairly rural so VAT on petrol is going to kill us and I feel i haven't a clue whats happening in tax credits as he starting realing off loads of stuff we earn around 24k in the south east so doesn't go far at all!.
I know we have to take it but it feels like a right kick in the nuts .. I'm also unhappy that he said single parents need to look for work when their lo starts school where are all these jobs coming from !!!

Coolfonz · 22/06/2010 14:02

Mmmmm....what's happnin' again? The budgie what?

LadyBlaBlah · 22/06/2010 14:04

The only thing that effects me and my family is the VAT.

I am gaining in many ways - e.g. new business with NI exemptions etc.

I am the perfect example of someone who should be contributing more. But nothing has changed for me except VAT. And I won't be paying proportionately the same as those on a lower income.

maktaitai · 22/06/2010 14:09

Did VAT go onto any new categories of goods?

because i do find that much of what I buy is VAT 0% rated (lol at Gold and Yachts).

Loujalou · 22/06/2010 14:09

Where do we go to join the Labour party? As uncomfortable as the Lib Dems are not sure I will vote for them again. I do heart Vince and Charles Kennedy though.

wubblybubbly · 22/06/2010 14:11

So 25% cut to public services, that means public sector job losses. Loss of tax revenue. Increase in unemployment payments. Less money in folks' pockets. Goods more expensive.

So less spending.

That means private sector job losses. Loss of tax revenue. Increase in unemployment.... You see where I'm going with this?

The only private sector boom I can see is bailiffs and loan sharks.

Am I wrong

nymphadora · 22/06/2010 14:18

Missed it been out for lunch

Dh & I with a joint income of 65K ish are the area that can afford the cuts. We still get CB , I still get HIP grant, I earn under 21K so still get my rise. I can't see anything about Capital gains tax increases so do we still pay the same on the sale of our 'second home'. The main problem for us is the risk of job cuts in the public sector (both on frontline so should be safer?).Oh and VAT of course but thats everyone.

So the poor taking the flack again then?

nymphadora · 22/06/2010 14:20

Oh and WTF was it with no increase on alcohol/tobacco/fuel

Loujalou · 22/06/2010 14:22

I think we need the booze and cigs to get through the stress of Dave and Gideon in power. Maybe the petrol is so we can drive far far away to a land run by lefties. Not sure where to move to though.

storminabuttercup · 22/06/2010 14:39

i'm new to this but was drawn in by the leftie chat - could the no tax on beer and fags be to pacify the tabloid readers who were hoodwinked into voting for this pile of poo in the first place.....

nymphadora · 22/06/2010 14:58

Weren't we having a lefties island?

Found CGT btw its now 28% for higher rate rather than the suggested 40%.

Shows who this budget was aimed at though. I expected this to be the first one where I would be worse off (was single parent )

boiledegg1 · 22/06/2010 15:25
Grin
claig · 22/06/2010 15:29

we'll even have a whip-round so that we can buy a one-way ticket for Gornanddunnit Brown and the other lefties who ruined the economy

BarmyArmy · 22/06/2010 15:37

Your dislike of these measures only reassures people like me that some of them, at least, are sound.

LadyBlaBlah · 22/06/2010 15:40

Tip - ee -cal

Whose dislike Barmy?

Riven - because she is ridiculing the new policy which will mean her DD having to be assessed for disability?

nymphadora · 22/06/2010 16:05

Riven- I wondered if they just got the 2 mixed up!

fifitot · 22/06/2010 16:12

Hmmmmmmmmmmm I thought this was a Lefties thread. Why have people who think the ideas are good ones, suddenly joined? Go away and find your own thread!

claig · 22/06/2010 16:18

Pol Pot, is this an example of lefty intolerance, a Stalinist stifling of free debate?
