God help those of us on the breadline, we've had it now

expatinscotland - given that the English have had to put up with a labour government propped up by scotland for far too long I think it's about time the English had their voice heard.

weblette · 11/05/2010 20:07

This cheered me up last week.

Agree though, utterly depressed by this. Feel betrayed by the Lib Dems.

The tories havn't been in power for a long time though Riven, things tend to move forwards, not backwards. We all have to give him a chance. I've seen families of disabled children camp out in Social Services because they are so despirate for support, it's still bad.

Cameron's on his way to the palace to see the Queen by the way.

londonone · 11/05/2010 20:11

A United Kingdom where the Scots have one rule for themselves (no tuition fees) and impose another rule on the English. The English have voted Conservative for a fair while, without Scotland Labour would be sunk

OhNoGordonDontDoIt · 11/05/2010 20:11

Riven you would have my full support with that (as in my dead body too) My family fought for years to keep my aunt, who has severe learning and physical disabilities, at home. With no statutory support whatsoever.

She's only just been awarded funding for 24 hour support package and her own tenancy.

CarGirl · 11/05/2010 20:12

I think it comes down to trust, I don't trust DC or the party as a whole. I think I'd rather be like the rest of Europe who generally all have mixed parliaments unlike the freakish UK

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 11/05/2010 20:14

Well, I didn't trust Labour or Tony Blair, I had to put up with it though.

SwansEatQuince · 11/05/2010 20:14

Isn't it draining and hellish for all concerned to have to fight so hard, OhNo ?
It almost brought our family to it's knees.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 11/05/2010 20:17

Alot of families have been through this though Swan, it doesn't matter who's running the country. It's needless, no one should have to fight.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 20:18

'expatinscotland - given that the English have had to put up with a labour government propped up by scotland for far too long I think it's about time the English had their voice heard'

ENGLAND has had its 'voice heard' over Scotland for hundreds of years now. When an English lord sold us out without public support.

So don't even tell me how hard done by bloody England is.

There are only two continents on this Earth where the greed and lust for power that is the city-state of London didn't cause untold murder, slavery, rape, death and destruction.

paddingtonbear1 · 11/05/2010 20:21

I didn't vote Labour (voted Lib Dem), but the thought of Osbourne as Chancellor... eek.

The Northern half of England? Do they exist to you?

They haven't voted Conservative for a fair while.

But of course, 'londonone'.

Says it all, really.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 20:22

Guess the northern part of England doesn't exist for londonone.

Quelle surprise.

Herbietea, I will second that!

CarGirl · 11/05/2010 20:27

Of course it does Riven, you didn't think that there was anything beyond it did you?

If I ruled the country I would put economical and political type lessons as compulsory before people left education. How the economy of our country works, what national debt means, why it's cyclical, why you should vots, money markets, international trade etc etc etc etc. Someone else I know suggest compulsary voluntary work as part of education too - that could be good too, make some teens decide to study hard to have more options in later life?

Tootlesmummy · 11/05/2010 20:55

Christ Expat, how bitter and twisted are you exactly!?

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 21:06

'Christ Expat, how bitter and twisted are you exactly!? '

Tell that to all the people in Africa whose tribal lines were ignored when Britain went and carved up their continent as if they didn't exist, and they are still paying hte price of this: in blood.

Or is that just an inconvenient truth you'd rather label 'bitter and twisted'?

Tootlesmummy · 11/05/2010 21:09

Now now don't be childish. You can't blame everything on the English and/or the Tories for gods sake.

The country didn't want a Labour government and just because Scottish people can't see beyond labour then that's the way it is. It's called democracy.

EdgarAllenPoll · 11/05/2010 21:12

Tell that to all the people in Africa whose tribal lines were ignored when Britain went and carved up their continent as if they didn't exist, and they are still paying hte price of this: in blood.

well, if it was a British ill, it involved the Scottish too! you were pinning it all on London.

goodnightmoon · 11/05/2010 21:18

cargirl - it's actually very affordable to rent in the SE - unlike buying. Doesn't something seem wrong that your house has doubled in value in eight years, could that possibly suggest Labour oversaw an unsustainable creation of wealth, solely for homeowners, that still needs to unravel to have anything like an equal society?

CarGirl · 11/05/2010 21:30

I don't think £1000 per month for a 3 bed property ie terrace is affordable? Yes I do think something is very wrong that our house has doubled it's value in 8 years but it's the same situation as happened with the previous Tory government we have a cyclical economy that will always boom and bust and now we have a rental housing crises to throw into the mix. Even 8 years ago we couldn't afford to rent the equivalent house to the one we bought, we paid £140k and rental was £800, I had been being £650 for a 1.5 bedroomed maisonette.
