I don't need a job under labour, yes I have to live frugally but we're not destitute

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 11/05/2010 19:27

Are you watching channel 4? Brown's at Buckingham Palace, he's going now. He's asking the Queen to allow Cameron to form a government.

londonone · 11/05/2010 19:35

Christ almighty cargirl - no wonder you like a labour government, it seems they save you the bother of working.

"I don't need a job under Labour" that's only true because others are working to keep you afloat.

Your attitude is appalling.

I see now Cargirl.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 11/05/2010 19:42

Cameron has had first hand experience of caring for a sick and disabled child Riven. I really don't see him not supporting families.

ermmmmm my husband is working to support us thank you, we bought a home 8 years ago that is now worth double, we're still mortgaged to the hilt but the interest rates are low enough to cope.

When I say frugal I mean frugal and we're caught in the poverty trap. Yes I'm happy to work but it's very difficult to be thrilled to work full time to be £50 per week better off (max) so work full time and still have a very frugal lifestyle.

Yes my choice to live frugally and not work for money just for free for a charity and raise our 4 children etc etc etc. oh and hopefully avoid another nervous breakdown in the meantime indeed.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 19:46

I feel the same way I did the day George Bush, Jr was successful in usurping the presidency: vomitous.

Now we will have to look at that plastic face and hear that awful, grating voice and put up with all those policies.

Terrific.

Scotland will be so pleased. NOT.

DaisymooSteiner · 11/05/2010 19:46

Hmm, of course this would be the same tax credits which have caused endless hassle, stress and worry for millions of people because of the incompetent administration and ridiculously complicated rules. Oh, and the family element hasn't gone up at all in the 7 years since it was first introduced, never mind keeping in line with inflation.

And provides a great disincentive to work as you've just pointed out Cargirl.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 11/05/2010 19:52

Sorry CarGirl.

His wife was at home caring for his children Riven. It doesn't matter if they had a nanny or not, his son was treated in an NHS hospital and his parents were with him. No parent should have to go through loosing a child, I take my hat off to him for his return to the party.

londonone · 11/05/2010 19:54

Cargirl, If your husband is supporting the family then why are you concerned about a tory government, the married tax allowance will help you. Or is it actually the case that you are in fact living off other people's earnings as well as your husband's?

CarGirl · 11/05/2010 19:55

As I said above the benefits system is hugely flawed, biggest flaw of all is the housing problem.

How many people can earn enough to pay for private rental and acutally be that much better off than not being on benefits. If you rent on the SE and have only an average income you are completely sunk.

I will be going back to work anyway (was self-emloyed for the last 2 years), I haven't actually not worked at all apart from perhaps 12 months since I gave up work 5.5 years ago. It was just fantastic that we could survive.

What is considered "on the breadline"?

Very excited for Tory government here, and I live off of benefits.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 11/05/2010 20:01

Maybe he doesn't understand carers in poverty Riven. Does Gordon Brown? Can you honestly say that a disabled child/adult can freely access the support they need now? Is respite care really easy to access? Are benefits that are paid under the Labour government enough to give families a better standard of living? No.

OhNoGordonDontDoIt · 11/05/2010 20:01

I, personally, am very

I don't trust the Tories, and I agree with Riven that they don't give a toss for the sick, elderly or disabled.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 20:01

Being ruled by the city-state of London, with policies all decided first and foremost with them in mind.

Yes, so excited by that.

CarGirl · 11/05/2010 20:02

I'm concerned about a Tory government because I think the poorest in this country (which isn't me by any stretch of the imagination) will in a few years time be even worse off. Here in the SE if people are prepared to work then they can get a job doing something, in other parts of the UK it isn't like that, what about those people.

I don't think they have fundamentally changed that much. I didn't think labour was fantastic. I am actually thrilled to have a hung parliament because it means that nothing drastic can happen in a short space of time.

I live in an entirely torie county where their is incredible wealth and have met many strong Tory supporties and I found their attitudes completely shocking and out of touch with people at the opposite end of the social spectrum.

expatinscotland · 11/05/2010 20:03

'Maybe he doesn't understand carers in poverty Riven.'

He visited Riven. If he doesn't understand now, he either never will or just can't be arsed.

CarGirl · 11/05/2010 20:03

"Tory", "there"

I think your last 4 words sum it up Expat.

Posh boys in power - how the hell can they understand how families on low incomes survive.
