It is the only fair outcome, really. Wonder what the eventual deal with the LDs is?

MagicMountain · 11/05/2010 16:19

Someone told me today that a local Tory councillor, like the UKIP chap, spent election day in hospital. Someone had placed a strategic rubber duck on top of a Conservative hoarding for the candidate lined up to take over from Sir Peter 'Duckhouse' Viggers. The councillor saw 'red', climbed up to remove it, and fell onto some railings. Terrible accident but probably also a strange metaphor for peculiar times.

My heart sinks at the thought of Cameron.

Foghorn Clegghorn
I say boy, I say there boy, yes you Gideon ...

dylansaunty · 11/05/2010 16:20

I'm really surprised.

I was sure that the Libs felt more natual allies of labour, and thought when they started talks with them that it would be a lib-lab government by the end of today.

looks like i was wrong.

I dont think it will last, and we will have another election in less than 1 year.

Tolalola · 11/05/2010 16:26

Well if any of you would like to move to the British Virgin Islands, it'd be very nice to have some more mumsnetters here. Thank you.

I have rum

Litchick · 11/05/2010 16:29

If Labour have any sense they will let DC deal with the mess and take the flack.

They can spend some time regrouping and decide what thjey really want in respect of PR etc, get a new leader etc.

Better than clinging on to power with promises they don't really want to make.

DaisymooSteiner · 11/05/2010 16:33

Nick Clegg has come out of this looking like a prize twat IMO.

Another election before the end of the year with a Conservative majority, that's my prediction.

cornsillkwearsclogs · 11/05/2010 16:34

Won't No.10 be a bit small for Mr and Mrs multi millionaire? Wonder if they'll get an extension.

ajandjjmum · 11/05/2010 16:35

Hope so!!

TheCrackFox · 11/05/2010 16:35

"British Virgin Islands"

claig · 11/05/2010 16:39

I think they will be in power for 5 years. I think the Tories and LibDems will form a good partnership which will bring stability to the country. I hope they put some LibDems in the cabinet.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/05/2010 16:40

Well, to be honest I actually prefer this to a lib/lab coalition which would not have gone well.

At this rate we can watch from the sidelines as all the tory party spite comes out and we can watch David Davis, William Hague et all torpedo the useless DC from underneath.

Rahaaahaha

BRAAAHAHAAAA

Batteryhuman · 11/05/2010 16:42

The Libs have taken the poison challice and will get all the blame when things go wrong IMO. With any luck it will fall apart in a couple of years and Laour will sweep back with a massive majority.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 11/05/2010 16:45

I'm ancient - I remember Labour pre Maggie T, and it weren't a pretty sight.

Whoever leads the country is in for a hell of a ride, thanks to the mess it's been left in. Hopefully a 2 part coalition will bring the stability and strength that is now needed.

DaveyCameron · 11/05/2010 16:46

Just like to say I'm offended by HeadFairy's prediction.

"Nick Clegg will have his fun as minister of paperclips only to disappear in to obscurity again."

We have him earmarked as Minister of Biscuits.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 11/05/2010 16:47

Why on earth would you want another massive Labour majority? To put the country even further into debt?

I am going out to get drunk with friends in a 'Fuck, the Tory Scum are in charge!' type way, not in a raise yer glasses type way. Grrrr. Bloody Ham-eron.

claig · 11/05/2010 16:48

If things go well for the new government, then it is very bad news for Labour. Money will now flood into the LibDems coffers and Labour will lose many backers. Even the unions were angry at Labour and they will demand that Labour become more left wing in order to get their funds. I think the LibDems could become the second party and Labour could become the third party by the time of the next election.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 11/05/2010 16:52

It'll be fine. He has to work with the Lib Dems, we'll tame their worst excesses.

It'll be fine.

If I could just get the image of swimming with sharks out of my mind, it would be fine.

Litchick · 11/05/2010 16:54

Claig - I admire your optimisim but remain unconvinced.
I thought Labour would get a spanking at this election...Iraq, expenses, borrowing, Brown himself. But Cameron just didn't cut it. Nor the LibDems.

Could be wrong.

claig · 11/05/2010 16:56

good point LitChick Labour did do a lot better than expected given the problems that you listed.

onadietcokebreak · 11/05/2010 17:14

So where can we all emigrate to?

DuelingFanjo · 11/05/2010 17:17

Ah well, hopefully a vote of no confidence against Cameron soon, then a re-election where the Lib Dems lose shitloads of Votes and teh Labour party win with a landslide.

Every cloud and all that...

nikki1978 · 11/05/2010 17:26

Calm down people we haven't elected Hitler.

I think it is great news
