Hope this is ok, I was getting withdrawal symptoms!

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 10/05/2010 23:11

yeah quattro but rabid liberal is FAR FAR to the left of new labourite! as well you know

TheStraitsofWTF · 10/05/2010 23:12

Oh hell, pol, we'd snog Swedes if she turned up.

DavidHameron · 10/05/2010 23:12

Yes, looks (and sounds intelligently) marvellous. none of you were on the Portas webchat but she may yet sort us all out...

DavidHameron · 10/05/2010 23:13

I think swedes has namechanged nad perhaps has been here and there but she's so well-brought up she doesn't want to fall out with any of us publicly?

policywonk · 10/05/2010 23:14

Well if you say so Quattro it must be true.

(Apple - it was all a feint. Don't you see?)

TheStraitsofWTF · 10/05/2010 23:14

Hmm - are you going to name names?

Who are/were you, Hameroonie?

jenny60 · 10/05/2010 23:15

Put my beer and in the fridge and now at Gove's unbelievably sexist comment re Kirsty Wark. Outrageous!

Policywonk: I loved this oasis during the election, but I know what you mean. I did try to post on others and started one for pregressives, but it didn't really encourage debate about progressive politics, more of an anti-labour type of discussion which I could have found elsewhere. But maybe that was me being sensitive. Even without our lefty inclinations here, I've still found the most interesting discussions about the whys and whens and maybes here. Maybe that's because I didn't have to hear about how hideous GB was and how he was 'clinging onto power' or how 'the markets' were inssitng insisting that we vote in a certain way.

DavidHameron · 10/05/2010 23:16

No. No outing of others here. I have namechanged cos I outed myself with someone at work.

But I may have had rather a lot to do with starting the Lefty theme

Marking my place.
Policywonk there's a place for discussion threads, but it's also nice to have a haven where one can be amongst kindred spirits(ish). I was upset to see MMeLindt being told to eff off on another thread for a perfectly rational post. For the first time in five years I reported a post!

policywonk · 10/05/2010 23:17

Hey soph - Adam and Joe win a Sony (it was you who liked A+J wasn't it?)

I like Rawnsley AND Richards. Evidently I am easily pleased tonight.

TheStraitsofWTF · 10/05/2010 23:18

Pol - OU Economics. Love them.

What are you all reading atm, btw? Has the election got you all fired up? I'm re-reading Stiglitz: Globalization and its discontents, because all I can remember is that perfect markets need perfect information. And that doesn't really help. Plus a book about Gulags.

Heathcliffscathy · 10/05/2010 23:19

oh they so deserve it, will it tempt them back to bbc6?

andrew rawnsley is leftie innit (?, prob not i'm not doing well tonight what with gove etc) but by god he fits the tory remit, voice, suit, gesticulation the lot!

animula · 10/05/2010 23:19

Michael Gove is a surely a little similar (facially) to Gary Numan?

Though many of you might not be old enough for that reference.

DavidHameron · 10/05/2010 23:20

Off to bed. Have mucho work tomorrow so will have to tear self away from News

Night all.

animula · 10/05/2010 23:20

Straits of WTF - Which book about gulags? The Applebaum one?

Heathcliffscathy · 10/05/2010 23:21

oh animula i think you'll find we are! (old enough)

TheStraitsofWTF · 10/05/2010 23:22

Yes, animula - have you read it? I was reading the Tom Rob Smith novels, and DH had it on the shelf. I've only just started.

jenny60 · 10/05/2010 23:22

good night. I said it on Thursday and I'll say it again, my god this is interesting, if nothing else! I am loving it.

policywonk · 10/05/2010 23:22

Krishnan Guru-Murthy is tweeting 'Adam Boulton is a fine political editor and a great broadcaster who needs some sleep'

And someone else it tweeting 'Red sky at night, Angel Delight'. Apropos of nothing but it made me laugh.

That other Scottish MP, forgotten his name, is on far right of Labour party AFAIK. He appears on Twitter sometimes as is usually irritating.

Anyway night all I'm off to bed to read Tropical Fish - Why They Die.

policywonk · 10/05/2010 23:24

Ooh thanks Straits, I will have a look.

I'm not managing to read anything - I keep going to read the Guardian and finding that it might as well be a 100-year-old edition for all the news relevance it has. I have 'The End of the Party' sitting there unread - might move on to that soon.

policywonk · 10/05/2010 23:27

Right, the scab-monster is whimpering, must attend.

See you tomorrow. And don't fucking touch my mung beans.

animula · 10/05/2010 23:28

That's funny! I read Child 44 and was impelled towards Applebaum. Perhaps not so surprising, since he recommends just that bookshop journey.

I'm not much further into it than the first few pages. In theory, I'm reading it - but in fact I'm not reading much of anything at the moment. (Am supposed to be writing up thesis, so feel as though I'm cheating.) Feel incredibly impelled towards the politics section.
