Hope this is ok, I was getting withdrawal symptoms!

OP posts:
TheStraitsofWTF · 11/05/2010 21:17

Osbourne looks like something from a Harry Potter film.

DHam - yes, I was surprised by full coalition, but have the LD party agreed?

policywonk · 11/05/2010 21:17

Have been doing a strategically-timed bath-and-bedtime - any news ?

Agree with soph, zeph and MrJusta FWIW. Don't think there was a better way out of this situation. at Zeph's DD heckling our new premier.

MrJustAbout · 11/05/2010 21:17

Not yet straits - they get the details in 15 minutes.

taffetacat · 11/05/2010 21:17

pmsl ( in a wild eyed way ) @ hide your foxes and your gays

InmyheadIminParis · 11/05/2010 21:18

Okay, so SamCam doesn't want to move to No.10.

A tad too small, perhaps? Okay. Please shut me up.

2cats2many · 11/05/2010 21:18

Gosh. I had tears in my eyes when they brought their boys out.

MrJustabout
I think that is too harsh.

And I think that we should stop bickering.

I am really sad that these threads, that have been so wonderful over the past week, are descending into this.

We are allowed to have different opinions, that is fine. Let us be polite and respect those opinions.

Jacaqueen · 11/05/2010 21:19

The Brown family on their way back up to Scotland tonight.

I wonder if they have permission to take the boys out of school.

Perhaps they will home school for a while?

taffetacat · 11/05/2010 21:19

Osborne is definitely Slitheen

theyoungvisiter · 11/05/2010 21:19

I'm not depressed because of the lib-con coalition.

I didn't want a lib-lab coalition and I don't think a Tory minority would have been workable.

I'm just sad because it's the end of an era.

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 21:20

I am fine with the solution, btw. I think that the Tories will be slightly hindered in any truly horrible plans.

Hassled · 11/05/2010 21:20

I'm struggling to explain to DD why I'm so upset. That hatred of the Tories was such a huge part of my youth/young adulthood - I was 13 in 1979, and I did the whole disaffected angry youth thing with gusto. And 1997 was such a huge deal - it's hard to explain to a twenty year old quite why. It's hard to explain quite how shite things were - I can give her the facts and figures, but the sense of anger and despair are harder to rationalise.

Heathcliffscathy · 11/05/2010 21:20

mmelindt (am following you on twitter now, lead me obiwan) pangloss was a character in voltaire's book candide who just refused to see the shit coming down no matter what, thoroughly annoying in this respect..tis a big insult.

[i only know this cause i did it for french o level btw]

DavidHameron · 11/05/2010 21:20

What tyv said...

theyoungvisiter · 11/05/2010 21:21

DavidHameron - can I just raise a glass of pink cava to you.

Sir, I commend the work you've done on this thread. I have been snorting through my tears and reading your tweets out to DH

TheStraitsofWTF · 11/05/2010 21:21

Term ends earlier here, jaca... Although not this early. Will keep looking out for them on the beaches around here come summer!

policywonk · 11/05/2010 21:22

A toast: to DFID, the world's best national development agency.

Sophable, have found you on Twitter. Have you got Tweetdeck?

I love insults that force you to google to find out if you were insulted or complimented. Very good. I will remember that one.

DavidHameron · 11/05/2010 21:23

Ah. Oh. Not actually my tweets : DH has been reading them out from the other sofa.

But I relish my job as class war clown.

taffetacat · 11/05/2010 21:24

could there be some hope in the new thread title please?

BeenBeta · 11/05/2010 21:24

sophable - why thank you.

Just a slightly serious point. I really like the fact that they Tory negotiators agreed to give people at tax free £10k allowance. I really wanted that as a Tory policy anyway instead of the 'Marriage Tax' allowance.

Good for people on low incomes and an incentive to go out to work for those trapped on benefits.

Surely everyone here could agree that is a good thing?

TheStraitsofWTF · 11/05/2010 21:24

yy to end of era thing, and remembering 1997. BUT - a few months ago, you'd have predicted a full-on Cons majority - GB was getting hammered in the press constantly, DC was all shiny and no-one thought about NC. This is better than we could have hoped for then.

But I quite like minority/power-sharing/coalition type govt - it seems more pragmatic, somehow, and leaves less opportunity for endless, tedious political point-scoring.

MmeLindt · 11/05/2010 21:25

New thread title

What is Left?

Left behind?

Left to form the opposition?

All too depressing?

All that is LEFT is admiration...
