As long as the tories are never in power again I don't care who else is at this point. I never got over the trauma of Thatcher!

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 10/05/2010 18:17

Minty (if I may presume to call you so? ) your posts are always spot on

Jux · 10/05/2010 18:17

I think this whole election has been a disgrace. And I think GB has done the wrong thing. And I think Clegg has been playing power games and I hope his party kicks him out sharpish. The whole bloody lot can go out with the bathwater afaiac.

Well Hague set it out clearly as a last and final offer on Sky. Lib Dems have to choose a stable majority Govt with Tories plus a referendum on voting reform OR go in with Labour in an unstable Govt with a new unelected Prime Minister who is yet to be appointed.

Personally, I now think Cameron should appear on TV and effectively appeal to The Queen over the heads of the other parties to appoint him as PM unless and until another group of parties form a coalition. These negotiations could go on for ever otherwise.

The financial stability of the country is at stake here.

MintHumbug - agree with you. I dread to think what is being done and signed away during this interim period.

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 10/05/2010 19:21

Argh, no TV! Why? Why can't he stay until it's sorted? At the end of the day, 9 million (??) people voted for labour to stay in power, it's not as if people are totally against it (esp. for now). Or does this get in the way of other things?

PortBlackandRat · 10/05/2010 19:33

Dare i say William Hague is coming out of this very well. At least he's being honest re feeling betrayed by LD...

HumphreyCobbler · 10/05/2010 19:39

I really like William Hague, I think it is a terrible shame for the Conservative party that he was elected leader too soon.

anastaisia · 10/05/2010 19:44

In all honesty - I don't think that the 'Liberals' who want PR do mind doing a deal with the Tories.

I think the remenents of the SDP mind. And I think that the people who vote Lib Dem because they think they are Labour-Lite are the ones complaining loudly about a LibCon coalition.

And I don't think that it would be sensible for the parties to rush to secure a deal. It has to be something that will last, or it isn't worth doing.

PortBlackandRat · 10/05/2010 19:44

HC - you are so right. And that he wasn't "photogenic" like Blair

HumphreyCobbler · 10/05/2010 19:49

that is interesting anastaisia. Good point about the Labour-lite idea.

Yes, the press crucified Hague. Do you remember all the stupid fuss about his hat? And that dreadful footage of his first speech being trotted out all the time.

Jux · 10/05/2010 19:51

Hague is looking good now. It is a shame he missed his chance back then, HC, but he'll do better now if Dave is toppled smartish.

As an aside my DH (who is pretty much a tory) has always had a thing for Harriet Harman. For yrs now....

If she becomes PM - I've told him i'll stand aside to let him become her love slave

HumphreyCobbler · 10/05/2010 20:03
Grin
vesela · 10/05/2010 20:31

anastaisia is right - if there's ever a split in the Lib Dems, it's between the "do the right thing and the votes will follow" people (usually the old Liberals) and the "oh no, oh no, we'll throw away support in XY and Z seats" ones.

Still, I think the MPs seem fairly united. They wanted to know best possible offers on PR - looks like it's a referendum on AV from the Tories and AV (apparently with no referendum) from Labour. Hardly worth going for IMO . Unless Labour suddenly say STV. But the Lib Dem MPs' statement did mention the need for strong and stable government, and a rainbow coalition certainly wouldn't be that.

BeenBeta · 10/05/2010 20:47

PortBlack - there is always something of the 'forbidden fruit' between Tory boys and socialist girls.

HumphreyCobbler · 10/05/2010 20:54

John Reid coming out very strongly saying that he thinks that Labour should not attempt to form a government. He thinks Lib/Lab pact would be a disaster for the Labour party, and is a dishonest fudge.

PortBlackandRat · 10/05/2010 21:01

JR speaks alot of sense
