I am in despair.

I think he's doing the right thing though, in being determined to stay until reform is underway in the event of a coallition.

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 10/05/2010 17:07

He had to. Surely?

smallishsheep · 10/05/2010 17:08

source?

PortBlackandRat · 10/05/2010 17:08

How the hell can the parties that came second and third be in power with an unelected PM (again) and a leadership contest going on at the same time and a tiny majority?????

ShadeofViolet · 10/05/2010 17:09

Sky News - Live from Downing Street

magentadreamer · 10/05/2010 17:13

BBC also stating he is resigning in order to open up talks with Lib Dems

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 10/05/2010 17:13

All over the BBC too.

iamfabregasted · 10/05/2010 17:14

I agree this can only be good for the tories.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 10/05/2010 17:33

Well... by September.

Brollyflower · 10/05/2010 17:35

Seemed pretty clear to me over the weekend there was no way he could stay.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 10/05/2010 17:35

(GB resigning by September, that was)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/05/2010 17:37

I think it was fairly clear this would happen last night when he met with individual cabinet members (unless he was interrogating them one by one to find out whos fault it actually all was!)

HumphreyCobbler · 10/05/2010 17:38

MintHumbug, you have just cheered me up

The thing that has been bugging me all day is that Liberals don't want a deal with the Tory party. But they do want PR.

What do they think will happen under STV?

Loads of behind the scenes deals like this one (which isn't happening anyway it seems). Lots of horse trading that the electorate has no part in.

I find the thought of electoral reform quite depressing actually.

EnchantedWithGordon · 10/05/2010 17:39
Sad
onebatmother · 10/05/2010 17:43

making way for another unelected leader..

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/05/2010 17:49

another way of looking at horsetrading might be to look at it as working together?

'The party that is least tainted by this frankly undignified show is the Tories.'

Really? Last time I checked they didn't get a majority and were willing to reach out to the Lib Dems who are ideologically not aligned with them in a desperate bid to get power.

All three parties are equally tainted imo.

And I hope the media is glad that they finally got what they wanted and pulled a good man down.

Its not people power anymore, it's Sum. Mail/ Murdoch power!

not before time.

BeenBeta · 10/05/2010 18:11

The markets do not like this at all the Pound and Gilts have collapsed just before 5.00 pm as GB was speaking.

The electorate will not like it either if this drags on and will punish Labour and Lib Dems.
