He's heading back to london and it sounds like he's got a pearl handled revolver with him.

Suppose it was inevitable...

longfingernailspaintedblue · 09/05/2010 13:59

Let's hope so!

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/05/2010 14:00

Yeah, I can't wait for the uber-intelligent Mr Cameron to take charge - not.

warthog · 09/05/2010 14:00

about bloody time

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 09/05/2010 14:00

Link?

warthog · 09/05/2010 14:01

he should have resigned when he sold off all our gold at rock bottom prices.

Coolfonz · 09/05/2010 14:05

is he resigning as labour leader? if so deputy will be pm...

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/05/2010 14:06

It's not on any of the News sites that he's resigning...

sethstarkaddersmum · 09/05/2010 14:08

surely he's just coming back to London to make sure no-one else moves into his house when he's not there?

I'm not keen on him but I would have thought it a bit irresponsible to leave without a cetain successor.

compo · 09/05/2010 14:11

He won't resign until Dave has decided what he's doing with Clegg

ilovemydogandMrBrown · 09/05/2010 14:11

He's doing what Margaret Thatcher did right before she resigned. He wants to ask each cabinet member whether he has their support on a one to one basis.

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 09/05/2010 14:12

A mate of mine has got £25 opn Mandelson being interim PM until Govt is finally sorted. Not as unlikey as it seems, apparently
here

I hope he does as I've been promised a week in France this summer if the bet pays off

TheJollyPirate · 09/05/2010 14:12

He shouldn't be resigning - too many people voted Labour. He needs to stay in post until it's sorted but by all means look at a new leader in the meantime.

Coolfonz · 09/05/2010 14:13

it would throw a huge cat, possibly a big hairy ginger one, into the pigeons...i'm all for it. step down you war criminal neo-liberal sell-out!

MrJustAbout · 09/05/2010 14:13

I think it's as Labour. Apparently there was another phone call with Clegg last night - although no sign that this one was a screaming match. (BBC suggests that this was genuinely amicable.)

On the BBC now - Brown is going to be in discussion with cabinet ministers but no formal cabinet meeting. Assumption is that he's waiting to see what happens with the lib dem talks.

Darling is emphasising that they'd talk to the Lib Dems if talks fail, whilst Cameron's utterances sound like there'll be no real movement on democracy.

The other possibility being that he resigns for the good of the party so as to open the door for a pact with the LDs as their cooperation would be contingent on GB resigning.

MrJustAbout · 09/05/2010 14:14

That's my reading ilove etc.

no it doesn't mean the deputy leader will become prime minister - bbc political correspondant was explaining this the other day - currently gb is prime minister. If he resigns, then it automatically follows that david cameron will be invited to the palace and asked if he can form a government. Obviously his response will depend on the outcome of talks with lib dems or whether he feels he can form a minority govt.

longfingernailspaintedblue · 09/05/2010 14:16

There are things which look suspiciously like removal vans just outside No 10 on the TV pictures

LordPanofthePeaks · 09/05/2010 14:16

He's not resigning, for all the obv. constitutional reasons.

He is spoken with Cleggy on the phone, and they are about to have a little meet, where Gordy pushes Cleggy onto a hot radiator and holds him there til he promises to support Alan Johnson as the next PM fro a specific peiod, say 18 month, so that the parties can rebuild their coffers and go again.

you heard it here first......

Coolfonz · 09/05/2010 14:17

for Labour (not Brown) it makes sense.

if Brown steps down it means Vince, i mean Clegg, can talk to them.

Milliband PM, Cable in number 11, Lucas environment, Clegg at home with his wife/home secretary...

Tories cry a lot. Brown joins RBS as an advisor on £1mn/yr.

Then Labour/Liberals never get elected again after slashing public services to the nuts
